A habit is any action that we have performed so often that it becomes something that we do almost without thinking. Some habits are thought to be bad. People spend countless hours each year trying to give up these bad habits but often fail. Why? Change requires hard work and there is no shortcut to achieve it. But, there is still some advice for you to follow.
First, find out why you do it. In other words, what’s the reason for doing this thing? If your bad habit is shouting at people when you are unhappy, what do you get from it? It may make you feel a little better for a moment. Or maybe you have a bad habit of leaving your homework undone. The reason could be that you want to get more time to spend on the Internet!
Next, take a look at them on the other hand. What do you lose because of your bad habits? Shouting at other people is a bad habit because it makes people around you fed bad and unhappy. Leaving your homework undone is a bad habit because you may be punished by your teacher. Having more Internet lime means that you lose the chance to learn things that you need to learn.
When you think in this way, you’ll find that it’s not wise to keep your bad habits! Now it is time to make a decision. What will you choose? I’m sure you will choose to do what you think is more important.

The students of Southside School were asked to give their opinions about whether the school should run a sport program or start a vegetable garden.
A sport program is better than gardening (园艺). How are we ever going to win anything at the sports meeting without proper training? We need experts (专家) to teach us things like throwing and high jump.
I know lots of kids say they’re not interested in competitions, but that’s because they’ ve never won anything. If they get better training and started winning things, they will soon change their minds.
People always say kids don’t get enough exercise. Just because you do gardening outdoors doesn’t make it exercise, so I don’t see how it matters.
Sport is much better for health and lots of kids can have a try at the same time.I don’t think there will be enough jobs for everyone in a garden. In fact, I think a garden is a really bad idea.
Liz,Grade 8
I think a vegetable garden is a great idea. We already do hours of sport. And not everyone likes sport. Gardening is a great way to get exercise without worrying about whether you’re good at it or whether you’re going to win. And you really do exercise when you garden.
There are lots of kids around here. They don’t have gardens so they can’t grow things even they want to. If you really want to do more sport, you can join a club.
And think about it: What helps you to be good at sport? You need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. If we learn to cook all the things we grow, the garden will keep us all healthy and we will better at sport.
Sam, Grade 8
30.What are the students arguing about?
A.Whether the school has enough sport programs for students to do or not.
B.Whether the school should run a sport program or start a vegetable garden.
C.Why doing gardening is good for students’ study and health.
D.Why the students are worried about winning the sports meeting.
31.What can we know about Liz according to the text?
A.He is not interested in sport at all. B.He wants to win at the sports meeting.
C.He doesn’t get enough exercise. D.He agrees to start a vegetable garden.
32.Which of the following is Sam’s opinion?
A.Gardening matters winning. B.All the students like sport.
C.Gardening is a way to exercise. D.Kids should grow plants.
33.What helps students to be good at sport according to Sam?
A.Doing a lot of practice. B.Cooking all the things by themselves.
C.Having a good teacher. D.Eating enough fruits and vegetables.

It feels like every time my mother and I start to talk, it turns into an argument. Even if we just talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, she will push the conversation into World War III. In fact, when I said that I expected to major (主修) in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack.
“Why can’t you be like my co-worker’s son?” she asks me all the time. Her co-worker’s son got into a good university and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I don’t know what to answer. I simply can’t be like Mr. Perfect. I am just a common man who loves to help out in the neighborhood. Most people like me because I always get on well with them. The only thing I like best is to write until the sun goes down, and most of all, I really want to achieve the dream of becoming a writer because I love it and feel happy when doing it, not because of a fame or salary (薪水).
I understand why my mother is worried about my future major. I’ve seen how hard my mother tries to raise me on her small salary and work long hours. She leaves the house at 6:30 a. m. and comes back home until 7:30 p. m. every day. However, I want her to know ______
34.Does the writer’s mother often argue with him?
35.How long does the writer’s mother stay out in order to work every day?
36.What is the writer like according to the passage?
37.What does the writer probably say to his mother? Finish the ending. (about 30 words)
【答案】
34.Yes, she does./Yes.
35.For 13 hours./She stays out for 13 hours (in order to work).
36.He is helpful/kind/warmhearted and friendly/easygoing.
37.I hope to achieve my dream and have my own career. I believe I can create a bright future by myself. It’s not necessary to be famous or successful, but it’s important to be happy.

34.根据第一段中“It feels like every time my mother and I start to talk, it turns into an argument.”可知,作者和他的妈妈经常吵架,并且该句是由助动词does引导的一般疑问句,主语是she。故答案为Yes, she does./Yes.
35.根据最后一段中“She leaves the house at 6:30 a.m. and comes back home until 7:30 p.m. every day.”可知,她每天早上6:30离开家,直到晚上7:30才回家。由此可知,为了工作,作者的母亲每天在外面呆13个小时。故答案为For 13 hours./She stays out for 13 hours (in order to work).
36.根据第二段中“I am just a common man who loves to help out in the neighborhood. Most people like me because I always get on well with them. The only thing I like best is to write until the sun goes down, and most of all, I really want to achieve the dream of becoming a writer because I love it and feel happy when doing it, not because of a fame or salary (薪水).”可推测出,他乐于助人/善良/热心、友好/随和。故答案为He is helpful/kind/warmhearted and friendly/easygoing.
37.开放性试题,答案不唯一。故参考答案为I hope to achieve my dream and have my own career. I believe I can create a bright future by myself. It’s not necessary to be famous or successful, but it’s important to be happy. (言之有理即可)

To go with the Civil Reading, our Student Union has done a survey about reading hours on weekends and found that 56% of the students spend less than one hour reading after class each day, while 33% read for one to three hours, and 11% for more than three hours.
As we all know, reading makes a full man. Reading helps improve our knowledge and make our mind and body relax after a busy day, which is good for our study. They also open up a whole new world to us and make our life colorful.
I think students should often meet together and discuss what to read. It’s time for us to read more so that we can do better in our study.

【答案】
Ways to Keep Healthy
As far as we know, it is very important to keep healthy. Here are some ways to keep healthy.
Firstly, I think we must have enough healthy food. Breakfast is necessary. It gives energy to our body. We must also have the right kind of food. Remember to eat more fruit and vegetables instead of junk food. Secondly, it’s necessary for us to do exercise. It helps to keep us active and strong. Thirdly, never stay up late. If we can’t get enough sleep, the whole body will work slowly. As the saying goes, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”Lastly, learning to reduce pressure is also important for your health. I find it relaxing to listen to some soft music when you feel bad.
Follow the ways, and you will be healthy.

Earlier this week Li said that she wasn’t nervous about becoming the centre of attention at today’s game. “I just want to have fun and play the best I can and I really don’t care about the result. I can learn a lot from these great players.”

If she was my kid, I wouldn’t let her play in the US Open at all, but that’s just me,” said world champion Stacy Lewis.
Dottie Pepper, an ESPN analyst(分析家), thinks that the most important thing is that Li doesn’t think of winning.
“If the success for her is not based on (基于) score, then I don’t think she’s too young. The important thing for her is to treat the whole experience as a kid on the golf score. Forget expectations.” Dottie said.

27.The underlined sentence “People spend countless hours each year trying to give up these bad habits but often fail” in Paragraph 1 means “______”.
A.Bad habits can’t be easily changed though much time has been spent
B.Dad habits can’t be changed unless people spend much time

28.Which of the following does NOT happen because of a bad habit in the passage?
A.You arc punished later.
B.You make people around you fed unhappy.
C.You lose the chance to learn something.
D.You leave your homework at home by accident.
29.The main purpose of this passage is to ______.
A.introduce and describe B.complain and disagree
C.explain and advise D.discuss and argue
D

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
It feels like every time my mother and I start to talk, it turns into an argument. Even if we just talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, she will push the conversation into World War III. She’ll talk about my lack of bright future because I don’t plan to be a doctor. And what’s more, I don’t want to do any job about science, either.
