Chen and his friend Sina would do one-to-one conversations with people who felt self-conscious(难为情的) about sharing their stories. “It’s understandable that at first they need time to trust us since we are so young,” Chen said. “But listening is the key.”

China has introduced the “double reduction (双减)” policy. It hopes to reduce schoolwork burden (负担) on primary and junior high school students. The policy calls for reducing homework and after-school classes.
According to the policy, children below the third grade won’t have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for junior high school students to finish their homework. After-school training institutions (机构) are not allowed to offer extra education courses or advanced (超前的) teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
How do students feel about this new policy?
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments and learn from real life,” said Shen.
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is that he can spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama. “I have joined a group called ‘leadership development’ where I can learn all kinds of skills beyond schoolwork,” said Zhang.
Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it’s not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points,” Zhang said. Shen also pointed out that some students spend more time having fun when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students.

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
If your birthday is coming, what kind of gifts would you expect? Or what will you buy for your friends’ birthdays? Mostly the giving of gifts and the culture are connected closely. Coming from the US, I have found gift-giving to be quite different in China compared to my home country. One example is the timing of when to open a gift. In the US, the person who gives the gift (let’s call them the “gifter”) will often want to see the person who gets the gift (let’s call them the “giftee”) immediately open the present. They want to see their reaction (反应) of excitement and joy. In China, however, it’s more polite to open the gifts after they come back home later.
Another aspect (方面) I’ve found different is the openness and directness of giving money. Although people in the US might give money to their children, it is usually doing very secretly with the money put in a card and not discussed out loud. In China, the practice is much more open in a flashy red envelope. Finally, the monetary value (金钱观) of the gift can play a big role in China in ways that are different from the US. An expensive gift in the US is usually greeted with great excitement. But in China, it can make the giftee feel awkward (尴尬的) due to a sense of having to return the favor (恩惠) in the future to the gifter.
So, the next time you give a gift to somebody, remember that culture and meaning are part of every action we take.
34.Is the writer from the US?
35.When do Chinese people usually open the gifts?
36.What are the differences in gift-giving between China and the US?
37.Is it a burden (负担) if you receive expensive gifts on your birthday? Why or why not? (at least 2 reasons)
【答案】
34.Yes.
35.After they come back home later.
36.The timing of opening a gift and the openness and directness of giving money.
37.Yes, it is. Because I should also buy expensive gifts to the gifter. I can’t afford it.

35.根据第一段“In China, however, it’s more polite to open the gifts after they come back home later.”可知,中国人通常回家后打开礼物。故填After they come back home later.
36.根据第一段“One example is the timing of when to open a gift.”和第二段“Another aspect I’ve found different is the openness and directness of giving money.”可知,中国和美国在送礼方面是不同的,其一是打开礼物的时间;其二是给钱的开放性和直接性。故填The timing of opening a gift and the openness and directness of giving money.
37.根据第二段“But in China, it can make the giftee feel awkward due to a sense of having to return the favor in the future to the gifter.”可知,在生日那天收到昂贵的礼物,会成为负担,因为必须购买贵重的礼物给送礼的人,承担不起。故填Yes, it is. Because I should also buy expensive gifts to the gifter. I can’t afford it. (开放性问题,合理即可)

【答案】
When we see someone lying on the side of the road, I think we should help people without thinking twice.
Several days ago, while I was having a walk in the park, I found a little boy crying. Then I asked him what was the matter, and he told me he couldn’t find his mom. Luckily, he remembered his mother’s phone number. So I called her immediately. Ten minutes later, the boy saw his mom and became excited. His mom was so thankful that she wanted to buy me a small gift, but I refused. I think helping others is helping ourselves because everyone may get into trouble and need help. For quite a few Chinese people, they say that they are so busy with different activities, so it's impossible for them to have time for reading. What's more, they consider it useless to read.
But I have the opposite opinion. Reading is important in the whole life for people. Firstly, reading opens up our eyes to the outside world and increases our knowledge. Secondly, reading is surely a good way to improve reading and writing skills.
So I plan to continue reading whenever I'm free. Also, I'll call on my friends to start reading to find and enjoy the great magic of reading.

As a teenager, you may sometimes feel helpless when having problems with your parents. Chen Zanzao, a 17-year-old boy from Shenzhen, has created a charity community called Dear Theodosia to offer professional help to families facing similar issues. It now has 2000 regular participants(定期参与者).
Chen’s idea was inspired(启发) by the three-child policy. “My friend Sina and I thought it would bring problems like parental favoritism(父母偏心),” Chen said. “Most families still don’t know any methods to deal with this.”
They started to research both scientific parenting styles and people’s needs. They read a lot of literature and studies on the topic and surveyed more than 1,000 people. They found that the most effective and healthy family relationships are when parents are highly engaged(参与的) in their children’s lives.
They then founded the community to promote(推广) the idea. “We hold lectures and discussions as well as go on radio and TV programs to promote useful information,” Chen said.
Chen and his friend Sina would do one-to-one conversations with people who felt self-conscious(难为情的) about sharing their stories. “It’s understandable that at first they need time to trust us since we are so young,” Chen said. “But listening is the key.”
“We met many parents saying, ‘I never realized raising a child would be so difficult’, so I think it’s really important that parents should think over whether they could take the responsibility before they rush into anything.”
27.What made Chen Zanzao start the charity community called Dear Theodosia?
A.He wanted to collect methods to solve his family problems.
B.He was once supported by a charity community.
C.He once experienced parental favoritism.
D.He thought the three-child policy in China may bring family problems.
28.In what way does Chen help many parents?

A.Worrying enough can help them become good parents.
B.They should be responsible for everything their children do.
C.They should fully consider whether they are ready to have a child.
D.They should raise more children though it’s more difficult for them.

30.Why does our government introduce the “double reduction” policy?
A.To make vacations longer for students. B.To reduce the pressure put on teachers.
C.To reduce students’ schoolwork burden. D.To help students get better grades.
31.Which of the following is in line with (符合) the “double reduction” policy?
A.All students must finish their homework in 90 minutes.
B.Junior high schools should reduce their homework.
C.All after-school training institutions have to close.
D.Junior high schools should offer advanced teaching.
32.In China, what kind of classes cannot primary students take during vacations now?
A.Sports. B.Math. C.Music. D.Art.
33.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.Shen Yuzhe has more homework than before.
B.Shen Yuzhe spends all his free time learning.
C.Zhang Hangming has fewer exams than before.
D.Zhang Hangming thinks exams push her study worse.
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)

More cupcakes didn’t work, either. All these made her want to 17 . Dad didn’t notice how Susan felt. He 18 her and went to bed early, because he had a long day at work the next day.
That Friday was hard to get through. Her birthday was over, and it was terribly uneventful. How boring! She went to bed early and 19 that the weekend would be better, and it WAS!
When she woke up on Saturday, she saw some balloons (气球) around her bed. There was a small gift box and a card. The card read, “I’m sorry—Dad”. She opened the box and found a necklace (项链). That day, Dad took her out to lunch and 20 her around dutifully (尽职地) as she shopped with her birthday money.
It started out to be a terrible birthday, but it ended up great, even if it was a late birthday. Sometimes, the day doesn’t matter, but the events themselves matter.

C.All after-school training institutions have to close.

32.In China, what kind of classes cannot primary students take during vacations now?
A.Sports. B.Math. C.Music. D.Art.

A.Shen Yuzhe has more homework than before.
B.Shen Yuzhe spends all his free time learning.
C.Zhang Hangming has fewer exams than before.
D.Zhang Hangming thinks exams push her study worse.

四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)
