There are mountains all over the world. The tallest mountain in the world is Mount Qomolangma. The highest mountain in the US is in Alaska. It is Denali. It's fun to explore mountains. Many bears and birds make their homes there. Trees and plants grow there too.
Rivers are important! Some of them carry water from the mountains to many places. There are many famous rivers. The Nile is the longest river in the world. You can even take a fun boat ride along the Nile! However, sometimes the rivers are in flood. When floods happen, they can be good for farmland, helping some plants grow. But if a river floods your house, that's a big problem!
Do you know about deserts? They can be very hot. They can also be very cold. The Sahara Desert is the largest desert in the world. Deserts are made up of sand or rocks. Some do not get much rain. Others are covered in frozen snow. Some plants can live in the desert. That's because they store water in their roots (根), stems and leaves. The saguaro cactus tree (Carnegiea gigantea), for example, is a plant that grows in the desert and can live for about 200 years.

Maya was a young woman. She lived in a small village at the foot of a very high mountain. She often dreamed of reaching the top of the mountain. Every day, she looked up at the mountain, and imagined what it would be like to stand on its top and see the world from that height.
One day, Maya decided that it was time to make her dream come true. She packed a small bag and set off on her journey. Halfway up the mountain, Maya met a group of experienced climbers coming down. ''Turn back,'' they warned. ''The climb is too difficult, and the weather is getting worse. It's not worth the risk.''
For a moment, Maya felt tired and cold, and she wasn't sure if she could go on. But then, Maya remembered why she had started the climb. She wanted to prove that she was able to achieve her dream, no matter how difficult the journey was. So she thanked the climbers for their concern (关心) but decided to continue climbing. As she climbed higher, the air grew thinner, and every step became a struggle. But she refused to give up. She knew that every step forward, no matter how small, brought her closer to her goal.
Finally, Maya reached the very top. The view was more beautiful than she had ever imagined, and tears of joy filled her eyes. At that moment, Maya realized that the journey up the mountain was not just about reaching the top; it was about discovering her own strength and resilience (适应力).

According to scientists, a lake with a round shape is very common. However, the lake named Kingsley in Florida, USA, makes them very surprised.
Kingsley Lake is one of the best fishing spots in Florida, but
few people know what really makes this place special is its unusually round shape. The lake may be the roundest lake in the world. In fact, we can only see how round the lake is from the air.
What caused Kingsley Lake to have this special shape? Some people think human beings have changed the structure (结构) of Kingsley Lake so that it is unusually round. However, in fact, this lake is completely free from human activities. It is believed to have formed as a sinkhole (落水洞). It also appears that the lake is the result of the movement of rocks which gave the present shape of Kingsley Lake.
Kingsley Lake is one of the highest lakes in Florida. And it is also considered one of Florida's deepest lakes.
According to the survey, Kingsley Lake has an unchanging water level because of its surface drainage (排水) system. This system helps the floodwater easily run from the lake to the areas around. In addition, the lake has many shallow (浅的) water areas, so it can be filled with water again.
Kingsley Lake is now a famous tourist destination(目的地). Each year, it attracts about 120,000 tourists on average. It also provides home for a lot of endangered animals.

No one is sure what Stonehenge was used for, but most agree that the position of the stones must be for a special purpose. Some think it might be a burial (埋葬) place or a place to honour ancestors (祖先). 39.______
Ancient people built Stonehenge slowly over a long period of time. Most historians believe it must be almost 5,000 years old.
