The name is a combination of “sport” and the Japanese word for rubbish, “gomi”. During the game, you’re given an area of roughly 1.5 sq km, and have to collect as much litter as possible within an hour or so, with some items awarded more points than others. I participated in the UK SpoGomi competition held in London this August. My teammates were my husband Alex and his brother Jonny. We won by 33 points. We were then heading for the World Cup in Tokyo. The night we arrived, we walked around the competition area, which was in the busy commercial Shibuya district. We thought about the profile of people who drop litter: probably typically younger people or people who were drinking. That helped us narrow down where to go. So we made note of areas with lots of bars. With 21 nations participating, the competition of the World Cup was intense. At one point, the members of another team came over to us and tried to pick rubbish out of our bag. After the first half, Japan came top, we were second and the Brazilian team was third. My muscles were aching and I felt completely wiped out from the heat of Tokyo on a sunny day. I didn’t have much more energy, and I remembered Alex and Jonny saying the same, but we had this feeling of being on the edge of something amazing. We had to just keep pushing. We pulled ahead in the second half and ended up coming first, with 57 kg of rubbish collected. Before SpoGomi, I wouldn’t have imagined myself as someone who picked litter up off the street. At the early stage of our training, we were so bad at finding litter. Then, just after the London competition, on the way home, we saw so much. We were just much aware of it. Once you’re drawn into SpoGomi, your attitude towards litter and how you contribute completely changes. 24.Which statement defines SpoGomi?( ) A.A litter-picking contest. B.A Japanese word game. C.A recycling competition. D.A marathon originating in Japan. 25.What did the author’s team do to prepare for the World Cup?( ) A.They talked with young locals. B.They studied the rules of the sport. C.They went to bars to relax their minds. D.They made an exploration of the playing area. 26.How might the author describe the World Cup?( ) A.Well-ordered. B.Mentally absorbing. C.Back-breaking. D.Culturally shocking. 27.What change did the author experience through SpoGomi?( ) A.Improved physical fitness. B.Appreciation for Japanese culture. C.Increased environmental awareness. D.International recognition as a World Cup champion. C (2025·广东揭阳期中)After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started to focus on the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing. Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly-built shared gym rooms are small, separate rooms for only a person to use at a time, often set up near living communities. Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower. Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes. The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings. The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP. 28.What makes the shared gym room different from the common one?( ) A.Holding one person at a time. B.Standing in the living communities. C.Offering open spaces. D.Having all advanced equipment. 29.What do people need to do to use the shared gym room?( ) A.Pay 100 yuan first. B.Let down curtains for privacy. C.Take a shower before exercise. D.Book a room ahead of time. 30.What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean?( ) A.Simple. B.Popular. C.Satisfying. D.New. 31.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?( ) A.To advertise a technology company. B.To introduce shared gym rooms. C.To support the shared gym rooms. D.To predict the future of shared gym rooms. D (2025·江苏南通期中)In recent years, there has been a significant shift towards adopting eco-friendly practices and promoting sustainable lifestyles. This global trend is fueled by various factors, ranging from heightened environmental awareness to economic advantages. A primary driver behind the rise of green living is the increasing awareness of environmental issues, particularly the urgent need to address climate change. As people become more informed about the harmful effects of carbon emissions, deforestation, and pollution, there is a collective push toward adopting practices that minimize ecological impact. Beyond environmental concerns, there are some economic motives driving the shift toward sustainability. For instance, energy-efficient technologies and practices can significantly reduce utility bills over time, making them financially advantageous for homeowners and businesses alike. Additionally, governments and organizations often offer some financial stimuli such as tax credits and subsidies (补贴) to encourage the development and adoption of renewable energy sources. For example, solar energy has emerged as a frontrunner in the renewable energy sector, attracting widespread interest from homeowners and businesses seeking clean energy solutions. Solar panels use sunlight to generate electricity, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The declining costs of solar technology, coupled with advancements in efficiency and storage capabilities, have made solar panels increasingly practical and cost-effective. Consumer attitudes and preferences are also factors driving the demand for sustainable products and services. Millennials (千禧一代) and Generation Z, in particular, prioritize environmental responsibility and prefer to support businesses that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. This shift has urged businesses across various sectors to integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations, from sustainable sourcing to waste reduction initiatives. Moreover, the power of social influence cannot be underestimated in shaping consumer behavior towards sustainability. Social media platforms and online communities arouse awareness about environmental issues and show innovative green solutions. Individuals are increasingly motivated by peer examples, fostering a collective movement towards greener lifestyles. These living practices reflect a global commitment to sustainability. By choosing to integrate sustainable practices and technologies into everyday life, individuals and communities can contribute to lessening climate change and creating a healthier planet for future generations. 32.What is the result when the government offers financial stimuli according to the text?( ) A.Green energy will be more accessible and affordable. B.It will bring too much financial burden to the government. C.Technology companies will make much progress in their field. D.Traditional fossil fuels will give way to renewable energy entirely. 33.What is true about the consumer behavior according to paragraphs 5 and 6?( ) A.Older generations have a more sustainable lifestyle. B.Peers make little difference in shaping consumer behavior. C.Social influence promises to drive changes in consumer preferences. D.The eco-friendly practices of companies cause the shift of consumer behavior. 34.What is the purpose of the text?( ) A.To initiate a process. B.To list some reasons. C.To address concerns. D.To analyze a dilemma. 35.What is the suitable title for the text?( ) A.Keeping Sustainable Development: The Strategic Goals for the Globe B.Protecting the Environment: An Everlasting Topic throughout the World C.Promoting Ourselves: A Better and More Advanced World in Store for Us D.Embracing Green Living: The Growing Movement Towards Sustainability 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 (2025·重庆沙坪坝区期中)Wondering what you can do to celebrate Earth Day on April 22? When we passed by the community advertising board, we saw a poster about a recycled-sculpture contest for Trash to Treasure Day. “Look,” I said. “It says anyone can enter, and the first prize is a gift certificate (礼品券) to a skate shop! Other winners can get gift certificates for ice cream!” “Sounds fun,” said Ollie. We both desired new skate boards and decided to team up and divide the prize if we won. In that case, we needed to figure out what we were going to make before going there. Thinking twice, we chose to make a dragon because dragons are undeniably excellent and impressive. Ollie and I spent the rest of the day researching. On the contest day, I was prepared with the perfect dragon picture to use as our guide. “Whoa!” Ollie said when we got there. “Look at all these people!” There were piles of recycled stuff, including cardboard, containers, used toys and so on. Each workstation had tape, scissors, glue (胶水), paint, and markers. Ollie and I found a place, and began to make our dragon. As I reached for a big red zipper (拉链) which could be made into a pretty mouth, another hand picked it up. “I was going to use that zipper for a dragon mouth!” I said. “Really?” asked the girl who’d picked it up. “It could be made into a perfect mouth for my monster. We had the same idea!” I smiled, “You know what they say — great minds think alike.” “They also say birds of a feather stick together!” she smiled back. “I’m Shoshanna, and I’m just working over there by myself. Want to work together and make a great dragon?” We certainly didn’t mind. In fact, Ollie and I had been so serious while working that we weren’t having any fun. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式作答。 As soon as Shoshanna joined our team, everything became better. Finally we won gift certificates for ice cream. 11 / 11 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 单元质量检测(二) GREEN LIVING 第一部分 1-5 ACBCB 6-10 BAACA 11-15 BABAC 16-20 BACBA 听力原文: (Text 1) M:Know what? I was just reading a story about this woman, Ellen Wilson, who climbed up Mount Qomolangma. M:Yeah, I read that, too. A rather extraordinary experience, isn’t it? 96 days. She is actually a graduate of our college, the class of 2012. W:Oh, really? So, Jonathan, what amazing thing have you done? M:Well ... I just went cycling across South America. W:You didn’t! M:I did. Just last year before I entered the graduate school. It was such a brilliant time. Four months on the road enjoying wonderful scenery in the country, in towns and in cities all along the way. (Text 10) W:A group of 17-year-old schoolboys decided to break the world basketball marathon record. They wanted to play for 90 hours and add 6 hours to the record. Each team had 9 players, with 5 at a time. The boys decided each person would play 21.5 hours and then rest for 2 hours. Then they started at 6 o’clock in the evening. The first night was very hard for the players. When it was their turn to rest, they were too excited to fall asleep at once. After sleeping for a short time, they had to play again. On the second night, they fell asleep as soon as they stopped. Some of them had trouble with their feet and hands, but the only serious problem was the mental one. And it has been found that 59% of the students devote less than 30 minutes to spoken English practice. Students sparing over 30 minutes to practise account for 22%. Additionally, there’re 19% of students reporting no daily oral practice. It is encouraging to see that a majority of students engage in regular spoken English exercises. However, there’s still a good portion of students who do not prioritize oral practice at all. Therefore, further efforts should be made to raise awareness of the importance of sufficient spoken English practice. 第二节 As soon as Shoshanna joined our team, everything became better. She was telling funny jokes when we made our dragon together. Even though she was being playful, she turned out to be a really talented artist. Under her guidance, the cupboard was used to make the dragon’s body, and the scissors as its hands. Soon, all three of us were joking around and making bold choices. Together, we created a surprisingly fantastic dragon! We could hardly wait to hear the winners announced. Finally we won gift certificates for ice cream. Although Ollie and I failed to buy a new skateboard, we had a great time playing and enjoying the process! After the contest, we treated ourselves with delicious ice cream at the fanciest store in our town, bursting into laughter all the way. Best of all, we remained friends after that experience. As for our sculpture, the symbol of our friendship, it was placed in my bedroom. For us, it was the unexpected encounter that highlighted that day. 11 / 11 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
