The Hutuo River is the mother river of Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei. About 20 years ago, it was dirty and almost dried up. Thanks to the government’s work, it has become much cleaner.
Wu Wenzhong, a 58-year-old villager, lives near the river. “My friends and I often played with water, swam and caught fish in it when I was a child. I liked catching fish best,” he said. He remembers that the villagers had to cross the river by boat at that time. But as time passed by, it got dirty and started to dry up.
To remediate (修复) the river, the government do a lot of things. They clean the river up and build levees (防洪堤) . They plant trees, grass and flowers to green the riverside. They set up fences (防护栏) and put up “No Swimming” signs along the river to protect people. They stop factories from putting waste water into the river. They keep an eye on the river to make sure it stays clean for the fish, birds and people who live nearby. They also have a long-term plan to keep the river in good condition.
Now, there are more than 20 kinds of birds living around the river. It becomes a home for birds again. People can enjoy a day outdoors with the beauty of nature along the river. Wu and other villagers are happy to see the river looking good again.

Taking public transportation in America, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely see people reading during their free time.
Are people’s attitudes toward reading different here? Not really. Data(数据)released by Amazon China show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e-books over regular books.
However, other data shows that reading is still more popular in America than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature. From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms(《三国演义》)to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem(问题), Chinese authors have created many fantastic written works.
Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely(肯定)have to read more and do more homework than US students. So it’s no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time.
But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own personal beliefs and attitudes.
Where will your next book take you?
30.According to Paragraph 1, what do we know about people in America?
A.Many of them have the habit of reading.
B.Most people take public transportation to work.
C.Students have homework to do on their way to school.
D.They read books that are left behind on public transportation.
31.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Chinese people never read in their spare time.
B.Chinese prefer e-books to regular books now.
C.Chinese people’s attitudes toward reading have changed a lot.
D.Chinese people love buying more books from the online bookshops.
32.The author believes that reading is less popular in China because ________.
A.it is hard to choose what to read
B.Chinese people prefer to read textbooks
C.people’s childhood experiences may influence their reading habits
D.Chinese people already read enough books during their childhoods
33.According to the author, reading books can ________.
A.make you relaxed B.change your view of the world
C.help you to know more than yourself D.make your imagination more powerful
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
“Come on, Amy. You must TRY HARDER,” Amy told herself silently. She was in her class’s Second-Day-of-School Game with her teammates of the Blue Team, whom she only met yesterday. This was her first chance to make new friends.
Since the Blue Team left the park, they had worked out the first two clues (线索) and had been to the post office. Now they were in front of the cinema.
Henry was reading aloud the third clue: Go to our town founder’s last resting place.
“I know THIS ONE!” Amy thought, excitedly, but said nothing.
“To the cemetery (墓地),” Cindy said.
“No, wait!” Amy said. “I’ve read about it. The founder was buried near the library.” “Wow. I’ve walked by every day,” Tyler said. “Never knew that!”
“Good job! That will save valuable time,” Cindy smiled at Amy.
“We still need to hurry,” Tyler reminded, pointing to the Yellow Team coming near.
“I know a shortcut!” Henry suggested. “Follow me!” No one moved.
“No, seriously,” Henry said. “You know I’m always running late. I know every shortcut in town.” The others finally agreed.
A few sharp turns, and they were there! This time Amy read the clue aloud: Now go to the place where the football is running around!
“The football stadium!” They called out together and started to run.
Now they’d got the final clue: Look where you’ve been, see where you are. Use your map wisely and you’ll be a star!
Looking closely at the map, everyone thought hard.
“Aha! A star!” Amy suddenly broke the silence. She quickly took out a pencil.
As they watched her drawing lines on the map, everyone understood.
They began running as fast as they could and they were absolutely the first to arrive at the destination (目的地). They were so excited and happy. Cindy said to Amy, “Nice job, new girl”.
34.Was Amy new to the team members at first?
35.Where was the town founder buried?
36.What place was the destination of the game?

The Hutuo River is the mother river of Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei. About 20 years ago, it was dirty and almost dried up. Thanks to the government’s work, it has become much cleaner.
Wu Wenzhong, a 58-year-old villager, lives near the river. “My friends and I often played with water, swam and caught fish in it when I was a child. I liked catching fish best,” he said.

37.Do you think that the Blue Team could win the game in the end just only because Amy was very clever? Why or why not? (30 words or more)
【答案】
34.Yes./Yes, she was.
