Drriinnggg! That’s the sound that kids all over the country hate to hear—the alarm bell. The new school year has just started and children across the UK have to wake up early in the morning to go to school.
But students at one school in north-cast England are lucky. They can lie in bed for an extra(额外的)hour before they go to school. Monkseaton High School has been allowing its pupils to come into school an hour later than other schools.
The headmaster, Dr Paul Kelley, says that this new way helps students pay more attention to their lessons in class. He feels that young people are more energetic and can perform better for the rest of the day. And he adds that for their school students, a late start at school may be better than an early one.
Dr. Kelley tells the BBC that teenagers don't perform very well in the morning and their need to sleep is biological(生物的).
It seems that this new approach to teaching shows positive(乐观的) results. The number of students who sleep in class drops quickly. Besides, the school has already seen a drop in the number of pupils who play truant(逃学)by 27%. More importantly, Dr. Kelley also says that exam results have improved by 20%—30% over the past year.
Classes at Monkseaton High School begin at 10 a.m. and finish at 3:40 p.m. However, the school opens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The students can come early and leave late if they want.

In Paralympic (残奥会) sports, most blind athletes compete alongside a guide. Jerusa, a Brazilian runner, lost her sight in her teens. Meanwhile, Skyler often hears people praise her for “sacrificing (牺牲)” for a disabled athlete. ______. She believes that if she hadn’t begun guiding, she would never have shone so much in sports. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her,” She said.

Robots Dance Yangko at 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala
On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed the audience at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most-watched TV show. Directed by the famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese yangko dance with modern robot technology.
In the performance, humanoid robots (robots shaped like humans) dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun handkerchiefs (转手绢) quickly and formed creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree, a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree’s first success—in 2021, their CCTV Spring Festival Gala robot cows named “Ben Ben” danced with the singer Andy Lau.
The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the stage. Their strong joints (关节) (like knees with 360 Nm power) helped them balance perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, “This dance isn’t just fun—it shows how technology can bring new life to traditions.”
Thanks to these innovations (创新), the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like “Robot Yangko” spread quickly. Young viewers called it “cool”, while older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit.
The YangBOT program is a perfect mix of China’s tech progress and cultural pride. As one fan said, “It’s like watching the future and past dance together! ”

Playgrounds offer kids fresh air and exercise. However, each year, more than 1, 000, 000 kids go to hospital because they are hurt in one way or another when playing on the playgrounds. So what can we do to improve the situation?
We should make sure the playground is safe for the children. It should be soft and thick enough, so when the children fall, they won’t hurt too much. Things like water, rocks or broken glass might cause danger to the kids. Cleaners should check the playground from time to time. In fact, children also need to help keep the playground clean and safe. That means each time after playing, they should pick up the rubbish. If someone finds there is something wrong with the facilities (设施), he or she should report to the keeper of the playground , so people will come to fix it.
Teaching kids how to play safely is also very important. If they know the rules of the playground, they won’t get hurt easily. If someone is going to jump off some equipment (器材), he or she should first look down to make sure no other kids are in the way. Of course, maybe it is also helpful to wear the right clothes. Clothes with strings(绳)can get caught on equipment which may hurt the kid badly.
In short, our kids can both enjoy themselves and be safe if we are working together to improve the situation.
▲.Playgrounds offer fresh air and exercise 56 kids. However, over 57 million kids are hurt every year while playing on the playgrounds.
▲.If the playground is 58 and 59 enough, the children won’t hurt too much.
▲.Children should 60 61 the rubbish after playing.
▲.It is also important to 62 kids how to play in a 63 way.
▲.If we work together to 64 the situation, kids can not only have a good 65 but also be safe.
56. to 57. one/1/a 58. soft 59. thick 60. pick 61. up 62. teach 63. safe 64.improve 65. time
56-57.“Playgrounds offer kids fresh air and exercise”对应“offer something to somebody” 的动词搭配,意为“向某人提供某物”;原文提到“more than 1,000,000 kids”,也就是“over one/a/1 million kids”,表示超过一百万孩子。因此填to;one/1/a。
58-59.原文第二段明确提到“It should be soft and thick enough, so when the children fall, they won’t hurt too much”,描述了能减轻孩子摔伤程度的场地条件为soft和thick,直接提取这两个形容词即可。因此填soft;thick。
60-61.原文第二段指出“each time after playing, they should pick up the rubbish”,“pick up”是动词短语,意为“捡起”,符合孩子玩耍后处理垃圾的要求。因此填pick;up。
62-63.原文第三段开头“Teaching kids how to play safely is also very important”,“It is important to do something.”
64-65.第一空:原文最后一段“if we are working together to improve the situation”直接提取该动词improve,意为“改善”;第二空:“have a good time”是动词短语,和原文的“enjoy themselves”同义,都表示“玩得开心”。因此填improve;time。
When people think of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) doctors, they might picture an elderly man. But He Suye—a young and talented Chinese doctor in the medical-romance drama, The Best Thing (《爱你》)—may change that image (形象).
Zhang Linghe, the 27-year-old actor who 66 (play) him, explained that He Suye is hard-working and professional. 67 outside of work, he also has many hobbies, such as skateboarding and eating malatang. To prepare 68 this role, Zhang learned skills such as acupuncture (针灸) and pulse diagnosis (把脉). “This is my 69 (one) time playing a doctor. Besides understanding the treatment 70 (method), I have also developed a deeper appreciation for the spirit of TCM, which has helped me take better care of my own health,” Zhang said.
The drama shows the medical applications of TCM, especially in 71 (treat) serious conditions. In one episode (剧集), he uses “wet cupping (拔罐)” to help a patient 72 has trouble breathing. “This is a typical example of TCM’s role in emergency treatment. However, if this method doesn’t work, we must 73 (quick) turn to modern medical interventions (介入),” explained Zhang Ying, an expert adviser (顾问) for the drama.
Since it started showing on international platforms, the drama 74 (be) well-received by viewers overseas. “TCM is 75 important part of Chinese culture. I hope this drama makes it fun and accessible worldwide,” said Zhang Linghe.
66.plays 67.But 68.for 69.first 70.methods 71.treating 72.who/that 73.quickly 74.has been 75.an
根据“Zhang Linghe, the 27-year-old actor who...him, explained...”
根据“...outside of work, he also has many hobbies...” 故填But。
根据“To prepare...this role, Zhang learned skills...”可知,“prepare for...” 故填for。
根据“This is my...time playing a doctor.”可知,这里是在说第一次做某事,“one”的序数词形式是first,表示“第一”,“this is one’s first time doing sth.” 故填first。
“Besides understanding the treatment...”
根据“The drama shows the medical applications of TCM, especially in...serious conditions.”
根据“he uses ‘wet cupping (拔罐)’ to help a patient... has trouble breathing.” 故填who/that。
根据“if this method doesn’t work, we must...turn to modern medical interventions”可知,这里需要一个副词来修饰动词“turn”,“quick”的副词形式是 quickly,表示“迅速地”。故填quickly。
根据“Since it started showing on international platforms, the drama... well - received by viewers overseas.” 结合故填has been。
根据“TCM is...important part of Chinese culture.” 故填an。

In Paralympic (残奥会) sports, most blind athletes compete alongside a guide. Jerusa, a Brazilian runner, lost her sight in her teens.

Now 42, she holds the women’s world record in the 100-meter race for the blind or nearly blind athletes. Her guide Gabriel runs on her left side during races. They hold a tether (系绳) between them—Gabriel in his right hand, Jerusa in her left. If they’ve had a good start, he keeps up with her speed perfectly, mirroring her steps with the opposite foot. “We work really well together,” Jerusa explained.

They spun handkerchiefs (转手绢) quickly and formed creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree, a Chinese robotics company.
