(2025·内蒙古赤峰高二下期末)During my two years living in London, I found that the British people really enjoy eating and drinking outdoors. When the weather is nice, restaurants and bars always bring out chairs, and everyone eats, drinks, and chats in the sunlight or under the lights. This continues even in the winter. However, it seems that Chinese people generally don’t eat and drink this way, except at markets.
Markets always bring people joy. Each region in China has its own unique market. Usually just a few small stalls, a couple of tables and chairs, are enough to allow people to have a hearty meal in an open-air setting.
Living in Beijing year-round, I have always complained that it is too much of a metropolis, too much concrete and steel. It wasn’t until I went to the suburban markets that I discovered a hidden version of Beijing, intimate, bustling, and lively. The open-air markets can usually be found in suburban areas. The opening times are mostly based on the lunar calendar.
But for someone like me with social anxiety, the most precious thing about the market is the sense of freedom that comes from being able to blend in despite the large crowds. When you see something delicious, you just buy and eat it, getting your hands and mouth oily, because with so many people in the market, no one will even notice.
The open-air market is like the city of Beijing itself. It is so vast that it seems to be able to accommodate everything, and yet because of its size, it also seems to provide a sense of invisibility, allowing you to feel warm and free, where every person who arrives can find something for themselves.
24.What’s the function of the first paragraph?( )
A.To overview the whole article. B.To present the background.
C.To make a prediction. D.To introduce the main topic.
25.What did the author feel about Beijing before visiting the suburban markets?( )
A.It was a lively and bustling city. B.It was full of history and culture.
C.It was a small and intimate community. D.It was too modern and lacked a characteristic.
26.What does the suburban market mean to the author?( )
A.A good medicine to social anxiety. B.A soft song to the beautiful life.
C.A new door to the whole world. D.A magic key to the solid heart.
27.What’s the last paragraph mainly about?( )
A.The appeal of Beijing city. B.The convenience of the market.
C.The charm of Chinese culture. D.The inclusiveness of the open-air market.

(2025·辽宁大连高二下期末)China is currently constructing the world’s first commercial underwater data center, which marks a groundbreaking initiative. This project aims to revolutionize the industry by controlling the power of the ocean depths, resulting in significant energy and land savings. With the potential to match the computational abilities of approximately 6 million conventional personal computers, this underwater data center is ready to be a game-changer.
The data center modules of China’s underwater facility are being installed on the seafloor at depths of around 35 meters. Designed to withstand harsh underwater conditions, these modules are expected to operate sustainably for up to 25 years. Each waterproof storage module weighs an impressive 1,300 tons and can process over 4 million high-definition images every 30 seconds.
One of the most significant advantages of the underwater data center is the ability to use the natural cooling qualities of seawater. By adopting this innovative approach, the data center is estimated to save a remarkable 122 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This achievement in energy efficiency emphasizes China’s commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
With the initial arrangement of one storage module in April 2023 and the recent addition of a second module, the project is well underway. The grand plan aims to have a total of 100 modules fully operational by 2025, marking a significant milestone in sustainable data center development.
By choosing an underwater data center, China is actively addressing the challenges of land conservation. Traditional data centers often occupy vast amounts of land. In contrast, this underwater marvel takes up minimal dry space, preserving land for other essential purposes. Additionally, the use of natural seawater cooling reduces the stress on traditional energy sources, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions. This environmentally conscious approach corresponds with global sustainability goals and sets an example for the industry to follow.
28.Why is China building the underwater data center?( )
A.To reshape the data center industry. B.To make full use of energy and land.
C.To control the power of the ocean depths. D.To improve computers’ computational ability.
29.What can be learnt about the underwater data center’s modules?( )
A.They are light and easy to reposition. B.They will be replaced every few years.
C.They occupy vast amounts of land and ocean. D.They can sustain operation for long periods.
30.What is one impact of using an underwater data center?( )
A.Preventing ocean pollution. B.Worsening the environment.
C.Conserving land for other uses. D.Increasing energy consumption.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?( )
A.National Seawater Cooling System
B.China’s Initiative to Conserve Land
C.Land-Based Energy-Efficient Data Centers
D.China’s Commercial Underwater Data Center

(2025·河北邢台高二下期末)It was the 1990s, and I worked in a restaurant. The Governess was a woman, perhaps in her sixties, with short hair set in curls that were close to her head. She dressed and spoke with a stiff sort of formality. She was strict, close to mean.
We didn’t hate her. I don’t think she ever got the cold shoulder. We were all extremely nice to her in hopes that she wouldn’t be too demanding with us. She tipped adequately. But it was exhausting to serve her.
For some reasons, I didn’t see her for a long time. However, after a whole year or so, she came in, and it was my shift to wait on the table. I thought, “No ... I just can’t deal with her.” I was waiting tables, pregnant and exhausted. But this was my job, so I forced a smile onto my face and greeted her, “Can I help you?”
To my surprise, she smiled back. Throughout her whole meal, she was pleasant and warm. It was like a switch had been turned on, and she had become a completely different person. Another server whispered to me that she had been in a few days before and was just as cheerful then.
When one of our servers found out she was a headmaster in a small private school, he let it slip that we had nicknamed her “The Governess”. We thought that she would feel awkward about it. To our surprise, she gladly responded, “Oh, it’s so cute. I love it!”
She came into the restaurant one day, stating that she wanted to book a large party for an early dinner: her retirement party. The news surprised us all. We couldn’t believe that the strict and formal Governess we had known for years was finally hanging up her hat.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)按如下格式作答。
After her leaving, we started to prepare for her retirement party.
Her husband asked if he could take the sign — “Governess Parking Only” — with them.

第二节
After her leaving, we started to prepare for her retirement party. As we prepared for the party, all the servers gave varieties of suggestions. All the waitresses once served her mentioned her favorite food. At last, one of our line cooks suggested that we get a custom sign — “Governess Parking Only”. All agreed it was a good idea. Several of us joined in to have it made. When the party came, her husband laughed happily at the “Governess Parking Only” sign.
Her husband asked if he could take the sign — “Governess Parking Only” — with them. Of course the answer was a big yes. Every employee of the restaurant was there to wish her well. A few of our former servers even stopped in to give her a hug. Shortly after that, she was gone from our lives, moving to a warmer state. I never knew what caused her shift in personality, but I’m so glad we could get to know her as well as we did.
