(2025·山东聊城高二下期末)For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a performer. But when it was time to go to college and decide what I wanted to be for the rest of my life, it didn’t occur to me to choose drama as my major. Making a living as a performer seemed impractical to me. So instead of starting drama, I started pre-law, and then went to law school like my two sisters did before me. They seemed happy enough, I thought; they worked about 80 hours a week, but they made good money and could afford expensive cars and fancy apartments in the city.
After law school I got a new job and worked as a lawyer for a big company. I had great benefits, including four weeks of vacation a year, but I never got to use any of my vacation time because there was always too much work to do. I worked from 7 am to 9 pm six days a week, and when I was finished, all I could do was collapse into my bed until I woke up to do it all over again the next day.
After five years of this lifestyle, I thought I was going to go crazy. I was unhappy and exhausted, I never saw my friends or my family, and I realized I hadn’t been in a play or musical since I started law school. I thought that acting in a small community play might make me feel better, but rehearsals and performances all took place during my work hours so I made a drastic decision and quit my job.
I got a small part in a local play and then the lead role. Now I make my living from acting, and once in a while, I do some legal consulting for a little extra money. I don’t get paid a lot for my acting jobs, but it’s enough. I had to give up my big apartment and expensive car, but I’m so much happier now. I see my friends and family, I have free time, and I get to do something I love every day.

(2025·山西晋中高二下期末)Companies may unintentionally hurt their sales by including the words “artificial intelligence (AI)” when describing their offerings that use the technology, according to a study led by Washington State University researchers. In the study, published in the Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, researchers conducted experimental surveys with more than 1,000 adults in the US to evaluate (评估) the relationship between AI inclusion and consumer behavior.
The findings consistently showed products described as using AI were less popular, according to Mesut Cicek, clinical assistant professor of marketing and lead author of the study. “When AI is mentioned, it tends to lower emotional trust, which in turn reduces purchase intentions,” he said. “We found emotional trust plays a critical role in how consumers view AI-powered products.”
In the experiments, the researchers included questions and descriptions across diverse products and service categories. For example, in one experiment, participants were presented with similar descriptions of smart televisions. The only difference was that the term AI was included for one group and omitted for the other. The group that saw AI included in the product description indicated they were less likely to purchase the television.
Researchers also discovered that negative response to AI inclusion was even stronger for “high-risk” products and services, those which people commonly feel more uncertain or anxious about buying, such as expensive electronics, medical devices or financial services. Because failure carries more risk, which may include money loss or danger to physical safety, mentioning AI for these types of descriptions may make consumers more careful and less likely to purchase, according to Cicek. “We tested the effect across eight different products and service categories, and the results were all the same,” Cicek said.
Cicek said the findings provide valuable insights for companies. “Marketers should carefully consider how they present AI in their product descriptions or develop strategies to increase emotional trust. Emphasizing AI may not always be beneficial, particularly for high-risk products, and mainly focus on describing the features or benefits,” he said.
5.What is the primary focus of the study?( )
A.Why consumers fail to trust AI.
B.How AI affects product sales.
C.Why AI is considered innovative.
D.How AI impacts companies’ strategies.
6.What does the underlined word “omitted” in paragraph 3 probably mean?( )
A.Removed. B.Added. C.Repeated. D.Highlighted.
7.What can we learn from paragraph 4?( )
A.The risk of financial loss is the biggest concern from consumers.
B.Consumers are more careful when AI is used in high-risk products.
C.Researchers tested the effect of AI mainly on expensive electronics.
D.This is the first time for people to test AI’s effect in service categories.
8.What should companies do according to Cicek?( )
A.Highlight AI only for low-risk products.
B.Improve the product quality to attract customers.
C.Enhance consumers’ emotional trust in products.
D.Avoid mentioning AI in their product descriptions.
