(Text 10)
It is really difficult for American university students to develop good health habits, but many students do manage to live a very healthy lifestyle.
Most schools offer plenty of opportunity for exercise through organized teams or classes in yoga, soccer, volleyball and other fitness activities, or by providing recreation centers where students can exercise, swim, work out or play different sports.
Finding healthy food to eat in the schools can be more of a challenge.However, as American society becomes more educated and concerned about health problems, even some fast food restaurants offer healthy alternatives such as salads, soups and low-fat sandwiches.
There are strict restrictions on smoking in most schools, too.In addition, schools usually include a student health center where students can seek medical attention.This is really a bonus for the students, because a simple doctor’s appointment can cost a hundred dollars, and a short hospital stay will cost thousands.

Black Sea Shipwreck
Discovered in 2018 by a team from the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project, the ship sank more than 2,400 years ago. Considered one of the best-preserved shipwrecks of the period, it has slowly been revealing its secrets.
Black Swan
In May 2007, a Florida-based company announced that, using underwater robots, it had discovered a shipwreck in the Atlantic, code-named (代号为) “Black Swan”. However, the government of Spain claimed that the wreck was the Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, a Spanish ship that sank off the coast of Portugal in 1804 following a battle with four British navy ships. (2025·江苏常州高二下期末)The city of Dunhuang is located at a point of vital importance, on a crossroads of two major trade routes within the Silk Road network. Lying in grassland at the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, Dunhuang was one of the first trading cities encountered by traders arriving in China from the West. The remarkable Mogao Caves contain the largest storeroom of historic documents along the Silk Road and bear witness to the cultural, religious, social and commercial activities that took place in Dunhuang.
The Mogao Caves show not only the religious importance of Dunhuang, but also its significance as a center of cultural and commercial exchange. One of the caves, known as the “library cave”, contains as many as 40,000 scrolls, which are of great value to the understanding of the cultural diversity of this Silk Road city. The earliest text dates back to 405 AD, while the latest 1002 AD.The arrangement of documents in this library cave shows that they were purposely stored there, and it seems likely that the local temples used the cave as a storeroom.
According to these documents, a large number of imports arrived from as far away as north-east Europe. Interestingly, the scrolls that mention caravans (商队) are usually recorded in Sogdian, Uighur, or Turco-Sogdian, indicating that they were indited by the foreign traders in the city. Dunhuang was not simply a receiver of trade, and it had a very active export market, too. The scrolls refer to a large number of goods produced in the city and sold to foreign traders.
Crafts and skills also moved along the Silk Road as traders and craftsmen met and exchanged notes. Some scrolls illustrate the use of woodblock printing in Dunhuang, a technique that originated in China in the early 8th century. Woodblock printing later spread across Asia, as traders passed on the crafts and skills that they had acquired while travelling along the Silk Road.

(2025·湖北武汉高二下期末) Maya civilisation once stretched across a vast territory in Mesoamerica, in what is today southern Mexico and Central America. It was home to thriving cities and thousands of people, but over the course of two centuries, major cities would be emptied, with their grand temples abandoned and vivid artworks unfinished.
Interaction with the neighboring Olmec civilisation is believed to have stimulated advances in Maya architecture, resulting in the construction of huge ritual complexes surrounded by cities. Among the most important urban centers were Uxmal, Palenque, Chichén Itzá, Tikal, Copán, and Calakmul. Built during the Classic period (AD 200-900), the Maya’s soaring pyramid temples and grand buildings — believed by some to be palaces — were richly decorated with sacred art dedicated to the gods.
Scholars have determined that the Maya did not rule as a unified empire. Rather, this was a shared society. Power struggles did occur, but they were fought by rival city-states or local ajaws (阿嘉瓦), or rulers. Numerous inscriptions (铭文) have been found on monuments, but none date to later than the year 800.
Archaeological evidence indicates that in this year, the city suffered a violent attack. The royal family and other members of the nobility were murdered, and their bodies were deserted, complete with their emblems (徽记) of power and jadeite jewelry, into three temporary burial spaces.
Such violence was not unusual in the region, but this incident stands out as part of a larger pattern. In the first decades of the ninth century, a political and social crisis affected almost all Maya cities. By the end of the Classic period, Maya sculptors had stopped carving monuments. Scribes had ceased recording their rulers’ deeds, and workers had abruptly stopped construction on palaces and temples. Cities were abandoned. What became known as the Maya collapse was just beginning.
The collapse — a decline that spread from city to city — lasted more than a hundred years. It began in the region known as Petexbatún and crossed the lands near the Usumacinta River. As cities fell like dominoes, the jungle began to claw back land from the Maya civilisation. Plant roots and tendrils curled through palaces, temples, and squares.

in a few days和even a few months是并列关系,且在否定句中,应用or连接,表示“或者”。
“It takes some time to do sth”是固定句型,意为“做某事花费多长时间”,所以此处为动词不定式形式。
62.that/which 考查定语从句。

(1)目击者描述不尽相同;
(2)有人认为它与苏格兰的尼斯湖水怪是表亲;
注意:(1)写作词数应为80个左右;
(Loch Ness Monster)
There have been reports of monsters in Heavenly Lake since last century. Descriptions of monsters vary, but no one has an exact idea of what the monsters look like.
Some photos have been taken but they are not clear because of the long distance. Many people think the monsters may be distant cousins of the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. Some also think that there might be similar creatures in other lakes around the world.
Scientists, however, doubt their existence. In their opinion, the low-temperature lake is unlikely to be able to support such large living creatures.
(2025·山东济南高二下期末) On a sunny weekend, Lily, an adventurous high-school senior, and her close friends, Jack and Emma, decided to go hiking in the nearby mountains. Equipped with backpacks filled with water, snacks, and a map, they were excited to explore the great outdoors.
As they walked along the well-marked track, chatting and laughing, the weather took an unexpected turn. Dark clouds rolled in quickly, swallowing the sun. The wind started to roar, and soon, rain poured down heavily. The path became slippery, and visibility dropped significantly.
Lily, trying to keep up everyone’s spirits, suggested they find a place to take shelter. They spotted a small cave on the side of the hill and made their way towards it. Inside the cave, the air was damp and cold. As they gathered closely together, waiting for the storm to pass, they realised they had left their emergency flashlight in Jack’s backpack, which he had accidentally dropped on the trail during their rush to the cave.
After what seemed like hours, the rain finally stopped, but the sky remained cloudy. When they stepped out of the cave, they were shocked to find that the track was no longer recognizable. Mudslides had occurred, and large stones blocked their way back. To make matters worse, Jack checked his phone and found that there was no signal.
With a sense of unease coming in, they knew they had to find a way out of the mountains before nightfall. They decided to follow a small stream they saw, hoping it would lead them to a more familiar path or a nearby village. As they walked along the stream, the path became increasingly difficult, with steep slopes (陡坡) and thick underbrush.
Suddenly, Emma let out a scream. She stepped on a loose rock and twisted her ankle badly. Lily and Jack rushed to her side, their faces filled with worry. Now, not only did they have to find their way out, but they also had to help their injured friend.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Lily and Jack exchanged anxious looks, their minds racing for solutions.
Just when they felt tired and hungry, Lily spotted a village in the distance.
Lily and Jack exchanged anxious looks, their minds racing for solutions. Jack quickly took off his backpack and looked through it, finding a bandage to wrap Emma’s ankle as best as he could. “We can’t leave her here,” Lily said firmly, her voice echoing with determination. They made a makeshift stretcher using branches and their jackets, carefully placing Emma on it. The going was slow and difficult as they navigated the rough path. Every step was a struggle, but their bond as friends kept them going. As the afternoon wore on, tiredness began to set in.
Just when they felt tired and hungry, Lily spotted a village in the distance. Heart pounding with hope, they made their way towards it. To their joy, they found a well-used path that led to the village. With renewed energy, they quickened their pace. Finally, they reached the small village at the foot of the mountain. The villagers, kind-hearted and helpful, provided them with food, shelter, and called for medical help for Emma. Safe and sound, Lily, Jack, and Emma learned the true meaning of friendship and courage in the face of adversity.
