Do you ever wonder what happens to your old clothes after you throw them away? Most people think they go to a landfill But the truth is surprising. Some of them travel thousands of miles to countries far away.
Every year, people in rich countries buy more clothes than they need. Fashion changes quickly, and cheap clothes make it easy to buy new ones. But what happens to the old ones? Some are given to charity shops. Some are thrown in the bin. But a large amount is packed into huge bales (大包) and sent to countries in Africa and Asia.
Take Ghana, a country in West Africa, as an example. Every week, about 15 million used clothes arrive at its capital, Accra. These clothes are sold in huge markets like Kantamanto. People call them “dead white man’s clothes” because they come from Western countries.
At first, this might sound like a good thing. People in Ghana can buy cheap clothes. But there is a dark side. About 40% of these clothes are of such poor quality that no one wants to buy them. They end up in open dumps, rivers, or are burned. This causes serious pollution. The chemicals in the clothes harm the soil and water. Burning them poisons the air.
Some people are trying to solve this problem. Organizations are teaching people how to recycle old clothes into new products. For example, worn-out jeans can become bags. Old T-shirts can be turned into rugs. Designers are also creating new fashion from waste materials.
The next time you want to throw away an old T-shirt, think about its journey. Could it be turned into something new? Could someone else use it? Every small choice we make can help reduce waste and protect our planet.

13.What problem do the unwanted clothes cause in Ghana?
A.They take up too much space in shops.
B.They are too expensive for local people.
C.They cause pollution to the environment.
D.They make local clothes less popular.
14.How does the writer organize Paragraph 5?
A.By telling a story. B.By comparing different opinions.
C.By giving examples. D.By listing numbers.

China will stop making mercury thermometers (水银温度计) completely starting from January 1, 2026, according to an official notice. This news has drawn much attention, and it means the end of a common household medical tool that has helped families for many years.
Mercury thermometers have their advantages. They are cheap, often costing only a few yuan, and very accurate—their error (误差) is only ±0.1℃. This helps people check if they have a fever. Many people also like them because they can be used for a long time if stored carefully. However, their hidden danger can’t be ignored. The mercury inside is a harmful heavy metal. It can cause long-term health problems, especially for children’s and pregnant women’s nervous systems. If the glass breaks, mercury turns into small balls that change into gas quickly. This gas is harmful; it can damage health and pollute the environment for a long time. This ban (禁令) is part of China’s efforts to protect the environment.
There’s no need to worry about what to use instead. Modern choices, such as electronic thermometers, ear thermometers and forehead thermometers, are safe and easy to use. They use infrared technology (红外技术) to measure temperature from a distance and give results in seconds. They work well for daily use.
Some people are buying more mercury thermometers, but it’s not necessary. Stores will still sell the ones they already have for some time. But if we keep them at home, it will only increase the risk of breakage and mercury leakage (泄漏). It’s smarter to choose safer thermometers.
Saying goodbye to mercury thermometers is not a loss but progress. This change shows that we are paying more and more attention to health and the environment. Let’s welcome these new tools for a safer future.

A.To offer practical advice on how to use new thermometers.
B.To summarize the problems caused by mercury thermometers.
C.To express a positive attitude toward the ban and look to the future.

Being a teenager is not easy these days. You have to face new problems and try to find out how to deal with them. And then there are worries of school grades and future jobs. You need to find out what you like and start doing it.
Teenagers have always had these problems, but young people today live in a world that is changing so fast. 26 This can be good as it means more chances. But it can also be a bad thing as it may cause “mental internal friction” (精神内耗).
Scientists say that “mental internal friction” happens when people have to think a lot in order to be able to move from “old ideas” to “new ideas”. They have to ask themselves such questions as “Are the new ideas good?” and “Will they make me feel happy?” It is difficult to find the answers, especially for young people. 27 So they may feel tired, unhappy and even have trouble sleeping at night.
28 There are some ways to solve them.
First, you must know yourself, as Aristotle put it, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom (智慧).” Second, develop new interests. 29 He said that learning about “old things” made it easier for him to deal with the “new things” in modern life. 30 Connecting with nature can help you know yourself and make you feel relaxed.
A.They will have too many choices.

C.A friend of mine decided to learn about Beijing Opera.

On the east coast of China, there are some wetlands by the Yellow Sea. Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve lies there. If you take a tour of the reserve, you 36 (notice) groups of strange-looking deer walking around. These are milu, also named sibuxiang in Chinese, because of their special appearance-a horse-like face, cow-like hooves, deer-like antlers, and a donkey-like tail.
Centuries ago, milu 37 (simple) lived in China. Both The Book of Mencius (《孟子》) and the Book of Rites (《礼记》) mentioned milu. And the Chinese character “mi” first appeared in oracle bone scripts (甲骨文). In 1865, a 38 (France) missionary (传教士) Pere David discovered such deer in Beijing and then introduced some to Europe. People there were very 39 (amaze) to see this rare species and called it “Pere David’s deer”.
Archaeologists (考古学家) have found that milu once disappeared in China for 100 years. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the number of milu dropped rapidly because of 40 (nature) disasters and too much hunting. By 1900, it became extinct (灭绝的) in China. Fortunately, the Duke of Bedford from Britain gave shelter to 18 milu in his country, and they were looked after well by him in the park. Later, their number increased year by year. Today this park has the 41 (large) number of milu in Europe.
In the 42 (eighty) of the last century, in order to take 20 milu back to Beijing Nanhaizi Milu Park from Britain, the Chinese government put forward a 43 (suggest) to Britain. This was a 44 (success) start in China’s milu protection and was supported by the descendants (后代) of the Duke of Bedford. In 1986, another 39 milu were taken back and sent 45 (live) in Dafeng Milu Nature Reserve.
Today, there’re over 5,000 milu living in China, with nearly 1,350 living in the wild. The return of milu is a witness of animal protection between two countries—China and Britain.

Born with great challenges, Pang lived a hard life when he was a child. His father has a serious mental illness. His mother’s legs were cut off, so she could hardly move. His story lights the way for many people.

根据“Although money was still a problem, he decided to depend on himself. That is why he said no to people who raised money for him.”
根据“His mother named him ‘Zhongwang’, and it means ‘the hope of everyone’.” 故选A。
故选A。

B.But don’t lose heart if you have these problems.
C.A friend of mine decided to learn about Beijing Opera.
D.You are wondering how to fit into (适应) your new school.
E.The third thing you can do is to spend time in nature.
F.That’s because they are still too young to make the right choices.

27.根据“It is difficult to find the answers, especially for young people.”及“So they may feel tired, unhappy and even have trouble sleeping at night.”
28.根据下文“There are some ways to solve them.”
29.根据“Second, develop new interests.”及“He said that learning about ‘old things’ made it easier for him to deal with the ‘new things’ in modern life. ”可知,前文提出第二条建议“培养新兴趣”,后文介绍某人的经历,C选项“我的一个朋友决定学习京剧。”举例符合,对应后文“学习旧事物帮助他应对现代生活的新事物”的内容。故选C。
30.根据“First, you must know yourself…”及“Second, develop new interests.”和“Connecting with nature can help you know yourself and make you feel relaxed.”
