A Chinese 2D animated(动画) film, Nobody, has become
a summer hit. Made by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, it
opened on August 2nd, 2025. By August 11, it had earned 574
million yuan, breaking the record of Chinese 2D animated
films—beating Big Fish & Begonia’s(《大鱼海棠》) 573
million yuan. It wins the hearts of both kids and adults.
The film tells a warm story. Based on a short film from
Chinese tales, it follows four little monsters(怪物): a pig, a
toad, a weasel, and a gorilla. They work for a mountain king
but lose their jobs by accident. To make a living, they pretend
(假装) to be Tang Monk and his team from Journey to the
West and start a journey. Along the way, they grow from
finding food to saving villagers. A famous line says, “We may
be nobodies in society, but we are supports at home,” making
people think about life.
What makes it special? Its beautiful Chinese ink painting
style stands out—each picture uses 50 ink layers(层). Its

heroes.
The film’s success has also made its products popular. Over
300 products, from soft toys to school things, sell quickly.
