Beijing Opera is the most typical of all Chinese traditional dramatic art forms and the largest Chinese opera form. Having a history of about 200 years, it is developed from absorbing many other dramatic forms, mostly from the local drama “Huiban”, which was popular in South China during the 18th century. It is a scenic (舞台的) art including music, performance, literature, aria (唱腔) and face painting.
Theatrical art forms in many other countries do not present singing, dancing and spoken parts in one single drama. An opera singer, for example, neither dances nor speaks on stage; there are no singing or dancing parts in a modern play; in a dance drama, the dancer bas no speaking role and does not sing either. Traditional Chinese drama, including Beijing Opera, is a kind of entertainment which includes spoken parts, singing, dancing and acrobatics (杂技).
Besides its presence in China, Beijing Opera has spread to many other places. Mei Lanfang, one of the most famous performers of all time, was the first to introduce Beijing Opera to foreigners and made highly successful tours to foreign countries.
“You will be puzzled (困惑的) all the way through and a little bored from time to time; but you will be charmed and interested. You will be strongly attracted to Beijing Opera even if you know nothing of the dramatic background.” This is how one American traveller described his first experience in watching Beijing Opera.

In today’s digital age, where a vast ocean of information is just a click away, the question arises: can one learn too much? Given that no individual can grasp the entirety of human knowledge. However, there exists a phenomenon where excessive learning can lead to inaction, a state of being overwhelmed by too much information.
Consider a scenario where you’re eager to achieve a particular goal. You begin by conducting extensive research, diving deep into the subject. As you absorb more information, it paradoxically (矛盾地) feels like your understanding diminishes. Each new concept or strategy reveals further layers, making the goal seem more complex and out of reach.
This situation is a common trap: the endless pursuit of more information. Although gaining comprehensive knowledge is valuable, that is to say there’s nothing wrong with learning a lot, issues arise when this pursuit obstructs practical application. If learning continuously prevents you from starting, you’ll find yourself stuck, unable to achieve your desired outcomes.
An alternative and more effective approach to achieving goals is to strike a balance between learning and doing. Gather essential information, then transition into action swiftly, even if you feel somewhat unprepared. This is often the best way to learn, as hands-on experience provides insights that theoretical knowledge alone cannot.
The comparison with a baby learning to walk is a good example here. A baby doesn’t learn to walk by sitting and analyzing the process. Instead, it learns by attempting to walk, falling, and then understanding from each fall what works and what doesn’t. Through repeated effort, walking is eventually mastered. This method is applicable to goal achievement too. By engaging in action, learning from the outcomes, and adjusting accordingly, you gradually move closer to your goals.
In summary, while the pursuit of knowledge is valuable, it’s crucial not to let it become a barrier to action. Learning should be a stepping stone to doing, not an end in itself. It’s through the interplay of gathering knowledge and applying it that we can truly progress towards our aspirations. This balanced approach is key to overcoming the paralysis of overlearning and actively moving towards realizing your ambitions.
46. What problem does the digital age present in learning?
A. Too much information. B. Learning to inaction.
C. Online distractions. D. Technical issues.
47. What stops people from achieving the goal?
A. The distraction caused by unrelated tasks.
B. The inability to find relevant information.
C. The confusion caused by the information.
D. The desire to learn basic concept or strategy.
48. Why is practical experience important in the learning process?
A. It replaces continuous learning.
B. It is irrelevant in gaining knowledge.
C. It holds back theoretical understanding.
D. It offers a comprehensive understanding.
49. The example “baby learning to walk” mentioned in Paragraph 5 is used to ________.
A. compare different learning styles
B. show the importance of making mistakes
C. emphasize the need for parental guidance
D. explain learning through action and experience
50. What makes the best title for the passage?
A. The Paradox of Information Overload B. The Harmony of Learning and Doing
C. The Pursuit of Balanced Knowledge D. The Process of Learning to Walk
第Ⅱ卷 (35分)
写作 (共两节, 满分 35分)
第一节: 阅读表达 (共5小题; 每小题2分, 满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
After completing my first year of studies, I decided to relax by taking a trip through one of the most richly cultured countries in Asia: Nepal.
The first thing I noticed about Nepal was its people, kind and friendly, ready to help someone in need. I'm saying so because all of what I've witnessed between the citizens themselves, rather than how they treated me as a visitor. It is shown in the way bus conductors and passengers alike keep the bus waiting for that last passenger who is lagging behind. It is evident in how a motorist smiles and waves off a kid who runs onto the street after his ball. The people are like a hot bowl of soup on a rainy day.
The first place I visited in Nepal was the Sauraha village in the district of Chitwan. It is an amazingly peaceful place, where the people live at their own pace. It is a great area to see some of the wildlife, such as rhinos and elephants. The capital city of Kathmandu was where I spent most of my time. The city is usually very dusty, so make sure to wear a mask. Another great area in Kathmandu is the district of Thamel. Unlike most other districts, Thamel is very busy throughout the day. Out of all the places I've been to within Nepal. Pokhara is undoubtedly the best place to visit. There are a lot of fun things to try out. I've gone paragliding as well as boating in Fewa Lake, but you can also go rafting. zip flying and paramotoring.
Nepal is a very affordable destination to travel to. I traveled through the country for about two months, and spent a little over 500 US dollars. Accommodation around Nepal is inexpensive, mostly varying from about 500 to 1,500 rupees per night per person. During my stay in Kathmandu. I stayed at a great hotel for two weeks, for 300 rupees per night. which is a great deal.
In a word, Nepal is a fantastic place. Whether you're looking to relax in the wildness and peace of nature, or for an exciting new adventure, Nepal has a variety of choices to offer.

【答案】Dear William,
Recently, I have heard that you feel stressed about study. Here is some advice on how to study effectively.
First of all, learn in a relaxing way. This will remove our pressure, making study an easy job. Another way to keep up our spirits is to take part in sports. Not only does exercise build up the body, but also it provides us time to relax and fresh our mind, making us memorize things faster and longer. Music, too, is another effective means of refreshing and helping us concentrate better.
Last but not least, we should exchange ideas with our classmates. Through the communication we can find support, which will encourage us to overcome difficulties in our study.
I hope these can benefit you
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
