A In today's world, the turn towards renewable (可再生的) energy sources is not just an environmental requirement but also a necessity for technological innovation and sustainable development. You are welcome to learn about renewable energy sources in the Museum of Science. Renewable energy sources Brief introduction Geothermal energy Geothermal energy comes from the heat stored beneath the earth's surface. This energy is used to generate electricity or to heat buildings. Geothermal plants are typically located in regions with volcanic activity, where the earth's heat is more accessible. 续表 Wind power Wind energy is generated by turning the kinetic (运动的) energy from wind into mechanical (机械的) power, which can then be used for electricity. Large wind farms are often located in coastal areas or open plains where the wind is lasting and strong. Wind power is one of the fastest-growing energy sources. 续表 Solar energy Solar energy is harvested through solar panels (帆板) that turn sunlight directly into electricity. This form of energy is advantageous in sunny regions and significantly reduces consumers' electricity bills. Technological advance has increased the efficiency of solar panels, making solar energy more accessible than ever before. Hydropower Hydropower uses the flow of water from rivers or man-made facilities like dams to generate energy. It is the most established form of renewable energy and accounts for a significant part of the world's total electricity, especially in countries with rich water resources. 1.What's the feature of geothermal energy? A.It's the most important energy. B.It's stored inside the earth. C.It's a kind of mechanical power. D.It's common on the earth's surface. 根据Geothermal energy部分中“Geothermal energy comes from the heat stored beneath the earth's surface.” B。 √ 2.What do the renewable energy sources have in common? A.They're somehow restricted by the regions. B.They're apparently hard to make use of. C.They're accessible all the year round. D.They're in urgent demand worldwide. A。 √ 3.Who is this text probably written for? A.The general public. B.Power engineers. C.Electricity workers. D.Energy scientists. A。 √ B When nine-year-old Ella and Cash met at Ocean Heroes Bootcamp in July 2019, they immediately connected. Introduced by their moms at the University of British Columbia, they soon became an environmental-activism powerhouse duo “We knew we could make a difference together”, says Cash from Tennessee. Ella, now living in Florida, adds, “We became best friends immediately.” Their meeting quickly turned into action, leading to the creation of Cleanup Kids — a youth-led non-profit focused on environmental protection. Ella's strong love for the environment began with a love for sharks, encouraged by bedtime stories about them, along with her experiences cleaning up trash along Vero Beach. Cash's journey started at seven when he found a single plastic straw on the beach, highlighting the broader issue of plastic pollution threatening countless wildlife, including turtles and seabirds. Now both 14, they sometimes meet for sea-turtle freeing, scuba diving, or meeting, but mostly stay “closely connected online” while co-leading Cleanup Kids, which has grown to over 200 members worldwide and continues to grow. “My hope for Cleanup Kids is that it grows from hundreds to thousands of kids, causing a chain of effect that encourages others”, says Ella. Members are tasked with conducting at least one cleanup per month, documenting the rubbish they collect, and aiming for a goal of one million pieces by year's end, while also sorting and recycling items. In 2022, they were among 25 projects selected for the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, which honors exceptional young leaders in North America. How do you even begin to make that effect? Cash's best advice is to start small. “I started with a couple of cleanups with my family. Don't overdo it”, he says. “Kids may be a small part of the population, but we're 100 percent of the future, and every little action counts.” 4.What do Ella and Cash have in common? A.They both live in beachside communities. B.They both worry about rubbish on the beach. C.They both have environmental activist parents. D.They both started environmental protection at seven. B。 √ 5.What effect do Ella and Cash hope to make through Cleanup Kids? A.Local community connection. B.Creation of a worldwide recycling program. C.Children's awareness of pollution. D.Development of new environmental policies. 根据第四段中“Members are tasked with conducting ...while also sorting and recycling items.” C。 √ 6.Which of the following can best describe Ella and Cash? A.Curious and adventurous. B.Warm-hearted and generous. C.Supportive and outgoing. D.Responsible and determined. 根据第二段中“Their meeting quickly turned into action ...focused on environmental protection.”和第四段中“Members are tasked with conducting ...also sorting and recycling items.” D。 √ 7.What can be the best title for the text? A.The Cleanup Kids: Small but Powerful B.Friends for Nature: Ella and Cash C.Green Organization: A Non-Profit Project D.Youth in Action: A Path to Change 根据全文内容,并结合第二段中“Their meeting quickly turned into action, leading to the creation of Cleanup Kids — a youth-led non-profit focused on environmental protection.” A。 √ C Traveling has been a crucial (重要的) part of my life and has played a significant role in helping me discover who I am. My first solo trip was to a small coastal town. As I arrived, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the ocean and the peace of the place. I rented a small bike and cycled along the coastal road. The feeling of the wind on my face and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore made me feel so alive. During my stay, I met a local artist. She showed me her studio filled with beautiful paintings inspired by the ocean and the town. Talking to her, I realized how much I loved art and how I wanted to explore my creative side. I started taking pictures of the town's scenery, trying to capture the beauty I saw in my own way. Another memorable trip was to a mountainous area. The hike was challenging, with steep slopes and rocky paths. There were times when I wanted to give up, but I told myself to keep going. When I finally reached the top and saw the breathtaking view of the mountains stretching out in front of me, I felt a sense of accomplishment like never before. I learned that I was capable of much more than I thought and that perseverance (毅力) was key in achieving my goals. Traveling has also allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. In a foreign country, I had to communicate with people in a different language, figure out how to use public transportation, and deal with unexpected situations. These experiences made me more confident and independent. I realized that I could adapt to new environments and solve problems on my own. In conclusion, through traveling, I have discovered my love for art, my inner strength, and my ability to adapt. It has been a journey of self-discovery, and I can't wait to see where the next trip will take me. 8.What was the author's first solo trip like? A.Amazing and refreshing. B.Lonely and unhappy. C.Shocking and tiring. D.Unbelievable and exciting. A。 √ 9.What did the author realize after talking to the local artist? A.She could make a living by painting. B.The town was anything but a good place for art. C.She should become a professional photographer. D.She had a passion for art and wanted to be more creative. D。 √ 10.What did the author learn from the mountain hike? A.Many hands make light work. B.She was not as strong as she thought. C.Saying no to giving up is vital to reaching the goal. D.Failure is the mother of success. C。 √ 11.What is the text mainly about? A.The author's challenges during traveling. B.The author's self-discovery from traveling. C.The author's experiences with local artists. D.The author's love for traveling to different countries. B项“The author's self-discovery from traveling.” B。 √ D If you want to tell the history of the whole world, a history that does not privilege one part of humanity, you cannot do it through texts alone, because only some of the world has ever had texts, while most of the world, for most of the time, has not. Writing is one of humanity's later achievements, and until fairly recently even many literate (有文字的) societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things. Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects, and some chapters of this book are able to do just that, but in many cases we simply can't. The clearest example of this between literate and non-literate history is perhaps the first conflict, at Botany Bay, between Captain Cook's voyage and the Australian Aboriginals. From the English side, we have scientific reports and the captain's record of that terrible day. From the Australian side, we have only a wooden shield (盾) dropped by a man in flight after his first experience of gunshot. If we want to reconstruct what was actually going on that day,the shield must be questioned and interpreted as deeply and strictly as the written reports. In addition to the problem of miscomprehension from both sides, there are victories accidentally or deliberately twisted, especially when only the victors know how to write. Those who are on the losing side often have only their things to tell their stories. The Caribbean Taino, the Australian Aboriginals, the African people of Benin and the Incas, all of whom appear in this book, can speak to us now of their past achievements most powerfully through the objects they made:a history told through things gives them back a voice. When we consider contact (联系) between literate and non-literate societies such as these, all our first-hand accounts are necessarily twisted, only one half of a dialogue. If we are to find the other half of that conversation, we have to read not just the texts, but the objects. 12.What is the first paragraph mainly about? A.How past events should be presented. B.What humanity is concerned about. C.Whether facts speak louder than words. D.Why written language is reliable. √ 13.What does the author indicate by mentioning Captain Cook in paragraph 2? A.His report was scientific. B.He represented the local people. C.He ruled over Botany Bay. D.His record was one-sided. √ 14.What does the underlined word “conversation” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Problem. B.History. C.Voice. D.Society. 根据第三段中的“a history told through things gives them back a voice”和“all our first-hand accounts are necessarily twisted ... but the objects”可知,conversation指的是历史,故B项正确。 √ 15.Which of the following books is the text most likely selected from? A.How Maps Tell Stories of the World B.A Short History of Australia C.A History of the World in 100 Objects D.How Art Works Tell Stories Listening to music can help you relax, but really listening to music can help you expand (拓展) your mind and appreciate music on a deeper level. Active listening takes practice, but lucky for you, we're here to share some tips! ______ According to professional pianist Warren Lee, one of the best ways to really listen to music is to “learn the overall structure (整体结构) of a piece”. Note any repetition, variation, melodies (旋律), and harmonies throughout the song, and question their placement: Why is a certain part being repeated or varied? Is it because the melody is great? ______ 16 17 Focus on a specific instrument and how it contributes to the song.______ And then forget everything else that's playing. Listen to the tone (音色), and how it shapes the melody. Think about the song's movement or progression (变化).______ Does the singer end up in the same place as where they started, or does the song tell a story of how they've “changed”? The key change in Hey Jude is one of the most important and famous examples of movement and change in pop music.______ According to Warren Lee, paying attention to the song's progression can help you listen to music on a deeper level. 18 19 20 A.Is it to bring out the lyrics? B.Pick one instrument in the song. C.How does the singer choose the instrument? D.Pay attention to the basic structure of the song. E.In a second, the song goes from thoughtful to joyous. F.Listen to the melody and search for the background context about the song. G.Listen once, and then replay the song to see if there are any changes from start to finish. 16.选D 空处位于句首,是主题句,结合后面几段的段首句可知该句应该为祈使句,根据后文“According to professional pianist Warren Lee, one of the best ways to really listen to music is to ‘learn the overall structure of a piece’.”可知,此空应是说要关注歌曲的基本结构,D项“Pay attention to the basic structure of the song.”,起到引出后文的作用,符合语境。 17.选A 根据前文“Note any repetition, variation, melodies, and harmonies throughout the song, and question their placement: Why is a certain part being repeated or varied?”可知,此空应是对歌曲中某些部分重复或变化原因的进一步猜测,A项“Is it to bring out the lyrics?” 18. 选B 根据前文“Focus on a specific instrument and how it contributes to the song.”和后文“And then forget everything else that's playing. Listen to the tone, and how it shapes the melody.” 19.选G 根据前文“Think about the song's movement or progression.”和后文“Does the singer end up in the same place as where they started, or does the song tell a story of how they've ‘changed’?”可知,此空应是说通过听一遍再重放歌曲来观察歌曲从头到尾的变化,G项“Listen once, and then replay the song to see if there are any changes from start to finish.” 20.选E 根据前文“The key change in Hey Jude is one of the most important and famous examples of movement and change in pop music.”和后文“According to Warren Lee, paying attention to the song's progression can help you listen to music on a deeper level.”可知,此空应是对《Hey Jude》这首歌变化的具体描述,E项“In a second, the song goes from thoughtful to joyous.”
