话题:女生利用iPad让年轻人重新爱上经典
难度:★★★☆☆ 建议用时:8分钟
In today’s digital age, how can old classic
books stay fresh and loved? Wu Yaduo, a 17-year-old high
school student from Chengdu, Sichuan, has a creative answer.
12
Using her iPad, Wu turns famous classics like A Dream of
Red Mansions,Water Margin, and The Peony Pavilion into fun
videos. She also shares stories about ancient poets, such as Li
Bai from the Tang Dynasty. These videos have become super
popular online.
Wu says these classics never get old because they talk
about things everyone feels—love, sadness, and life’s big
questions. But she thinks we need to make them more
interesting for young people today.
She got the idea after noticing that students often find
classic literature boring in school.“Classics shouldn’t be ‘locked
away’ on high shelves,” Wu says.“We should bring them into
our daily lives.”
In her videos, Wu mixes words with music and pictures.
For example, her video of A Dream of Red Mansions was
inspired by a sad song from a small Chinese music group.
When she read the line “one flower, one leaf, one spring tree”,
she first drew the beautiful Grand View Garden (大观园) and
then showed the family’s fall into sadness.“Putting these two
scenes together makes you feel both joy and pain,” she
explains.
Wu’s hand-drawn cartoons are bright and full of feelings.
She draws inspiration from cool movies and art. Though her
family and friends support her, she says it’s hard to turn her
ideas into art.“I wish I could just copy my thoughts straight
onto the iPad!” she laughs.“That’s why I can’t wait to make my
next video.”#1.1.7

Now, Qomolangma, at 8,848.86 meters, is the highest
mountain in the world. What’s more, it keeps growing!
According to a new study by scientists from University College
London (UCL), Qomolangma grew by 15 to 50 meters
because of a geographic event about 89,000 years ago. And
now it rises a little bit every year because of big forces under
the ground.
Qomolangma’s rocks once sat at the bottom of the ocean.
Around 45 million years ago, the Indian Plate (板块) moved
and hit the Eurasian(欧亚) Plate, making the land rise up.
This is how Qomolangma started to form. However, the UCL
team found that Qomolangma is growing faster. They estimated
(估计) this to be between 0.16 and 0.53 millimeters each
year!
The height of Qomolangma is also influenced by weather
conditions such as ice and snow. And rivers also affect it. The
Arun River, which runs close to Qomolangma, has been cutting
through rocks and washing away the land over time. This
makes the mountain lighter, allowing it to rise like a boat when
weight is taken away. The process of this rising is isostatic
rebound (地壳均衡回弹).This means the Earth’s surface
(表面) moves up or down when something heavy is taken
away or put on.
Qomolangma is not the only mountain that changes. The
UCL team said that nearby mountains, Lhotse and Makalu
(洛子峰和马卡鲁峰), the fourth and fifth highest in the
world, are also growing a little bit each year.
①. .In a word, Qomolangma keeps growing higher every
year. How amazing nature is!#1.6
