(24-25·广东省惠州市东江高级中学·期中)Frequently Asked Questions about London Theatres
London has a world-leading theatre scene, and it’s particularly strong when it comes to family shows. Read the FAQ to make your family theatre trip a pleasant one.
Can children go to all theatres?
Most shows are suitable for people aged 12 or older. Some productions might have material that is too mature for younger theatregoers. However, there are also fantastic family shows which are appropriate for all ages, or which are specifically aimed at kids.
Are children booster seats available?
Some theatres, though not all, provide booster seats-for example, Nederlander theatres rent height-adjustable seats for £1 if you ask a member of staff. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some venues will also have height restrictions so that audience sitting behind you can still see.
Are there frequent breaks throughout the duration of a performance?
If it’s a show for a general audience, there will usually be one or two intervals based on the running time. Most shows designed specifically for younger audiences will have short running times, like an hour or less.
Can I bring my own snacks and drinks into the theatre?
Most theatres won’t allow you to bring your own snacks and drinks. They sell food and drink in the theatre and that’s part of how they bring in profit. If you have concerns about dietary requirements, you can contact the theatre beforehand to make arrangements.
Find all the latest recommendations and more information about the rules on Telegraph Tickets, or check with the box office.

(24-25高二下·广东揭阳·期中)The following 4 famous paintings — from Jan van Eyck’s portrait to Pablo Picasso’s masterpiece — have stood the test of time.
The Amolfini Portrait
Jan van Eyck’s Amolfini Portrait, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434, in which a man and a woman hold hands with a window behind him and a bed behind her, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces in the National Gallery, London. This painting is as visually interesting as it is famed. It is also an informative document on fifteenth-century society, through van Eyck’s heavy use of symbolism — while husbands went out to engage in business, wives concerned themselves with domestic duties.
The Starry Night
Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night, oil on canvas (帆布), a moderately abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small hillside village, during his 12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint–Remy-de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890. When the Museum of Modem Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of van Gogh’s most famous works.
The Harvesters
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It describes the harvest time which most commonly occurred within the months of August and September. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp, commissioned this painting. The painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since 1919.
Guernica
Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso in 1937. The title ‘Guernica’ refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war. Today, the painting is housed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.

(24-25·广东省江门市培英高级中学·期中)In a growing number of schools, educators believe that having students take part by starting with practical problems is a great motivator. Project-based learning that freely crosses disciplines provides an education superior to the traditional “maths at age nine, history at ten, literature at eleven” structure. Examples of projects applicable to the here and now are as follows:
Soil Superheroes Project King Middle School, Maine
African Wildlife DNA Project High Tech High, California
Seventh graders learn about soil bacteria (细菌) by creating multimedia information brochures. They consult professional microbiologists and cartoonists, conduct research, and then distribute their works to local garden centers and flower shops.
An eleventh grade biology class uses DNA to help protect African wildlife. The students share their findings with wildlife-protection officials and have traveled to Tanzania to lead bushmeat-identification workshops.
Water Wheel Project Ferry way School, Massachusetts
Bridge Project Kentucky Elementary School, Ohio
Fifth-graders explore history, science, technology, and engineering by designing their own water wheels. By the time they visit the nearby Saugus Iron Works, which dates back to the 1640s, they’ve already tested and mastered the centuries-old technology.
Students conduct surveys, do research, build models and take field trips with the goal of determining the best kind of new bridge to build over the Ohio River. Students don’t restrict themselves to one discipline but rather look into maths, literature, history, science — whatever is appropriate to the study.

Passage 3
22.Where is the text probably from?
A.A theatre guide. B.A drama review.

Passage 5

Passage 2
