(二)阅读下面的短文,根据其内容和所给提示写一篇80词左右的读后感。
A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree.A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. They loved to play together.
As time went by, the boy had grown up and no longer played around the tree. One day, he came back and the tree excitedly invited him to play. But the boy said he needed money to buy toys.“Sorry, I have no money, but you can pick all my apples and sell them,” said the tree. The boy did as he was told and left happily but never came back. The tree was sad.
Many years passing by, the boy, who was then a man, returned and told the tree he had to make money to build a house for his family. The tree happily offered his branches for the house. With the branches, the man left, satisfied. The tree was again lonely and sad.
Then one hot summer day, the tree was delighted to see the man back again.“Come and play with me!” the tree said.“I am sad and getting old.I want to go sailing to relax. Can you give me a boat?” the man asked.“Use my trunk to build your boat.” The man cut down the tree, made a boat and went sailing but never showed up for a long time.
Finally, the man returned after so many years.“Sorry, but I don't have anything for you any more,” the tree said with tears.
The man replied that he was too old and needed nothing.“Good! Old tree roots are the best place to rest.Come and sit down with me.” The man sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears.

I'd say I quarrel with my parents a lot.Throughout high school, I was always jealous of some of my friends who didn't seem to have those problems at home, but I've come to see over the years that no one's situation is perfect.
Part of the reason I work all week during my break, in addition to the money, of course, is to be out of the house to avoid continuing quarrels. At work, I eat lunch with my friend Krysta every day, but the best days are when our favourite workmate, Lucy, is on her lunch break at the same time as us.Her funny way of storytelling always has us laughing happily, and although she is almost old enough to be our mom, she feels more like a best friend.
A few weeks ago, however, there was a change in our lunch conversation, and the story she told had us in real tears instead of our usual tears of laughter.A more serious topic had come up, and she sat us down to explain the importance of forgiveness, especially when it came to our parents.Telling stories of her troubled relationship with her mother, she changed my whole outlook on life and my feelings towards my parents. She reminded us that no matter how much resentment (怨恨) we're feeling in a moment of anger, we have to be thankful for the support they provide and learn to forgive everything else.
This week I've spent my break at home, having very small quarrels and lots of quality time together with my parents.Sometimes you need a reminder to make you realize how important it is to let go of past resentment and work to repair broken relationships. My workmate's moving stories not only brought me to tears in the break room at work that day but served as that wake-up call as well.

What are the hidden messages in the storybooks we read to our kids? That's a question that may occur to parents as their children dive into the new books that arrived over the holidays. And it's a question that inspired a team of researchers to set up a study.
For a taste of their findings, take a typical book in China:The Cat That Eats Letters.Seemingly it's about a cat that has an appetite for sloppy (马虎的) letters — “written too large or too small, or if the letter is missing a stroke (笔画),” explains one of the researchers, psychologist Cecilia Cheung, a professor at University of California Riverside.“So the only way children can stop their letters from being eaten is to write really carefully and practice every day.”
But the underlying point is clear:“This is really instilling (逐步培养) the idea of effort — that children have to learn to consistently practice in order to achieve a certain level,” says Cheung. And that idea, she says,is a core concept of Chinese culture. The book is one of dozens of storybooks from a list recommended by the education agencies of China, the United States and Mexico that Cheung and her collaborators (合作者) analyzed for the study.
They created a list of “learning-related” values and checked to see how often the books promoted them. The values included setting a goal to achieve something difficult, putting in a lot of effort to complete the task and generally viewing intelligence as a trait that can be acquired through hard work rather than a quality that you're born with.
The results — published in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology:The storybooks from China stress those values about twice as frequently as the books from the U.S.and Mexico.

How can you tell if someone's lying? The answer is, they're probably not.
Traditional economics says that people are rational (理智的) beings who will lie if it's to their advantage.A recent university study has shown that, actually, we're pretty honest — especially when we're at home.
Researchers in Germany phoned people at home and asked them to toss (投掷) a coin. There was a strong financial incentive (刺激) to fake the result:if the coin landed tails-up, the participants would receive money or a gift ticket, while if the coin landed heads-up, they would get nothing.Because they were on the phone, they knew there was no risk of getting caught if they lied.
And yet people told the truth.Over hundreds of tosses, a coin will land tails-up roughly 50% of the time.In this study over half the people asked (55.6%) said that the coin landed heads-up, which meant they would receive nothing.
Previous studies had found that people were more dishonest. In those laboratory studies, 75% of people reported a winning coin and claimed a reward. So the research team thinks it's being in our own homes which makes us play fair, although it's not yet clear why.
In fact both types of study show people are surprisingly reliable.Even in the laboratory, 25% of people turned down a reward by telling the truth. The researchers say this is because honesty is highly valued in human society. We care about our reputation and our sense of ourselves as respectable people. So lying has a psychological cost and it seems this cost is more important than the financial benefits of lying.

D.People would play fair and behave acceptably if invited to the laboratory.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There are many things that we should be thankful for in life, but many people aren't, including me.
Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom.Kind and caring, she always seemed to make people comfortable. For years she was a volunteer in our community.I loved going to the local nursing home to help her until I became a teenager.Suddenly, I was too caught up in my world to worry about helping others.
One summer day when I was twelve, Mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car.I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything? Eventually, I made my way outside.I imagined the lake water cooling my skin.Feeling angry, I climbed into the car and slammed the door shut.I sat in silence, too upset to make a conversation.
“Tasha, would you like to know where we are going?” Mom asked calmly.
“I guess ...,” I murmured (低语) under my breath.
“Sweetheart, we are going to a children's shelter.I have been there before and I think it would benefit you,” she explained.
I felt even more angry. How was I supposed to help there?
When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. It was a large white Victorian home.As we got close to the large front porch, wind bells played a calming tune while trees and flowers welcomed us.Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.
Mom rang the doorbell. The door opened and we were shown to the front room, where all of the children were playing.Toys were spread out across the floor.I noticed a baby with wounds on his body. The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars such as cuts, scratches (抓伤) and burns. What a terrible life they had before they moved here! My heart sank.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. _________

I returned to the shelter with Mom several times. ________________

参考范文:
As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to see a little girl with brown eyes looking up at me.Her angelic face lit up, although there were some scars on her little arms.“Hi.I'm Ashley.Do you want to play dolls with me?” she asked.I looked over and saw Mom nodding to me with a smile.I bent towards Ashley and whispered, “Sure.I'd love to.” Her tiny hand reached up and took mine, and we walked towards the doll house. Our time together brought her great joy and fun and she also made my day.
I returned to the shelter with Mom several times. During those visits, some of the children including Ashley shared their troubled pasts with me in great detail.I felt sorry for what had happened to them and treasured the friendship between us.I would like to do everything in my power to help the children there. At the same time, I learned to be grateful for all that I had.It was a meaningful time in my young life that I will never forget. It was Mom who taught me the valuable lesson that summer.
