Many people do not have close friends or contacts who have the same interest in music. 2.Whitacre's next effort was the Virtual Youth Choir for UNICEF, which was first seen on stage on 23 July 2014 in the UK. 3.The virtual choir is a wonderful way for people around the world to sing with one voice and thus make the world a better place. 提能训练 (1)写出下面句中contact的词性及含义 ①I have a contact in that company if you need any help. ________ ②Protect yourself by limiting your contact with them. ______________ ③We'll make our decision and contact the people involved. ______________ n. 联系;联络 (2)写出下面句中stage的词性及含义 ④If you stand on stage and share your view of the world, people will connect with you. ________ ⑤This meeting will set the stage for the school sports meeting. __________ ⑥The local theatre group is staging a production of Hamlet. _________ n. 1.Born in the USA on 2 January 1970, Whitacre began studying music at the University of Nevada in 1988. 2.Inspired, he asked his fans to make videos, which he then joined together into one performance. ②________________________, the teacher praised him in class. ③I enjoy watching some interesting English films on the Internet, __________________________________________________. Seen from the moon Satisfied with what he did which helps to improve my listening and speaking skills 1.These videos are uploaded onto the Internet, and then they are put together into one video that you can see online — a virtual choir. Anyone can take part in a virtual choir from anywhere — all you need is a video camera and an Internet connection. 2.He graduated from university in 1995, and then received a master's degree in musical composition from the Juilliard School in New York in 1997. I hope everything is fine with you. Last night, I watched a performance of Butterfly Lovers, a beautiful violin concerto composed by He Zhanhao and Chen Gang. It‘s a piece that really deserves to be heard. ① The music took me through the twists and turns of a classic story about a young couple torn apart by their families. When the two lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, first meet, the music is light and pleasant, as if whispering to the audience. It is followed by a fast and cheerful section which represents their three happy years of school. Then the music gets dramatic with heavier notes and that is when the lovers are separated because Zhu's father forces her to marry another man. Angry and sad, Liang falls sick and dies. Zhu weeps bitterly over the loss of her love. Overcome with sorrow, she jumps into his grave. ② ③ ④ Finally, during the most exciting part, the music takes a softer turn and ends on a bittersweet note, telling us how the couple transform into butterflies and fly away to be together forever. It is an amazing journey! Butterfly Lovers combines Chinese and Western musical elements:it is played on Western instruments such as the violin, but more significantly, much of the music has its roots in Chinese Yue Opera. This unique combination has made me realize that music is indeed a universal language. You should definitely listen to Butterfly Lovers — I bet you'll like it! All the best, Alice ⑤ [阅读理解] 1.What is the story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai like? Though it's called that name, it is not performed only in Beijing. While we were in Yunnan, we watched a community performance of Beijing Opera. The leader and the teacher of this group had retired from the Yunnan Beijing Opera Troupe. The rest of the group consisted of local retired men and women. Our guide gave us an example of how each of the characters would be played. The male characters include an old man, a middle-aged man, a young man, and a small boy. Each of these characters will wear different costumes. The old man will move around like he has no sense of balance. The middle-aged man will walk slowly with large steps around the stage as if he owned the world. And the young man will dance around.Everyone laughed when the young man put on artificial hair and danced around the stage as if he were ten years old. Our guide even told us about the different roles of women. The main differences in the women's ages are how a woman walks and her water sleeves. For the older women, they are more dignified (高雅的) in the way they walk. For the younger women, it is more about being graceful (优雅的) with the water sleeves. The costumes of both the men and women hang according to the rank of the characters being played and the age of the characters. It doesn't matter what age the actors are because the make-up will either make them look younger or older. After seeing that performance, we began to fall in love with this great Chinese national treasure. 1.What do we know about the guide? The Band for One, made up of five people, sang the lyrics soulfully during a performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on November 7. Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he was the reason why they were all there. Hancock was a 27-year-old Australian who taught English in Chongqing. When he died in 2018 due to a disease, his parents followed his wishes and donated his organs. The five people introduced themselves onstage. They are the ones who received Philip's organs. “Last November, the Red Cross officials told me Philip's parents mentioned during an earlier memorial service that he loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day,” said Chen Xianjun, a recipient. Chen was instantly on board to form a band in memory of Philip, and so were the other four recipients. Since they had no music experience, they had to start from scratch. From learning the guitar to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year. Peter Hancock, Philip's father, said after watching the band's performance, his biggest wish was for the five to enjoy their lives more. Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300,000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown. 5.Why did the five people form the band? A.To compete in a singing performance. B.To show their respect for Peter Hancock. C.To raise money for the local Red Cross. D.To express their appreciation to Philip. 根据第二段中的“Behind the band ... why they were all there.”以及第三段中的“The five people introduced ... received Philip's organs.” √ 6.How long did it take the recipients to prepare for the performance? A.One year. B.Two years. C.Three years. D.Five years. 根据第四段中的“From learning the guitar ... to practice over the past year”可知,器官接受者花了一年来准备演出。 √ 7.What do the underlined words “start from scratch” in paragraph 4 mean? A.Lose interest in music. B.Practice from the very beginning. C.Take part in training courses. D.Turn to some musicians for help. √ 8.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Citizens are encouraged to donate organs. B.Organ donation is the best way to save lives. C.The author thinks highly of organ donations. D.Few people are willing to donate their organs. Music is arguably the most life-enriching academic subject. 9 . It can bring lots of important benefits to your child's education, many of which you may not have considered before. Increase language capabilities Music and language have a far-reaching relationship. Musical training stimulates the same part of the brain that deals with understanding language. Children who have some exposure to musical education will, therefore, have a greater understanding of tones and how different phrases are arranged. 10 . Improve hand-eye coordination (协调) 11 . It takes considerable hand-eye coordination to learn almost any instrument. Those who master their craft are blessed with a unique skill; it's something that can be applied to other areas of general life. It can also help elsewhere in education, as writing skills and art require the hands and eyes to work together. 12 Music is a great way for your child to meet new people and create lasting friendships. If they decide to take up music as an extra-curricular activity, they'll be bonding with like-minded children who share their passion. In a time when children are increasingly interested in communicating online and focusing on digital skills, music is a refreshing return to face-to-face contact. Bring about a sense of achievement When your child does achieve a musical goal, they get the incredible satisfaction that comes from working hard to obtain something. 13 . Self-trust is one of the most valuable skills a child can have and music is one of the best ways to allow it to develop in your child. A.Develop social skills B.Encourage teamwork C.In that sense, music is a great confidence builder D.Hand-eye coordination is important in many sports E.Learning an instrument to a high level is no easy task F.It activates emotional responses and creativity like no other G.It can be incredibly useful if your child is learning a second language 根据空前句“Children who have some exposure to musical education will, therefore, have a greater understanding of tones and how different phrases are arranged.” 空后“It takes considerable hand-eye coordination to learn almost any instrument.” 根据段中的“Music is a great way for your child to meet new people and create lasting friendships.” 13.选C 根据空后的“Selftrust is one of the most valuable skills a child can have and music is one of the best ways to allow it to develop in your child.”
