Sirish Subash, a 14-year-old student from Snellville, Georgia, US, recently won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. He made a tool that can find pesticides(农药) on fruits and vegetables. This won him $ 25 000and he was named as“Best Young Scientist in America”.
Subash's idea for the tool came from his daily life. His mother always told him to wash fruit before eating it. The boy wondered, “Did the action do any good?” Then he learned that 70 percent of fruits and vegetables have pesticides. They can bring possible health problems like cancer.Washing only gets away part of the pesticides. “If we could find them, we could avoid eating them and lower the risk of those health problems,”Subash said.
This led Subash to invent PestiSCAND. It is a small tool that people can take with them. It works by shining lights and seeing how light reflects(反射) off food to find out if there are pesticides around. To use it, users must point PestiSCAND at the fruit or vegetable to see if they need to wash it again. They can check the results in an app on their phones. During testing, PestiSCAND was right more than 85 percent of the time in finding pesticides. Subash plans to improve his tool and hopes to get it to market by the time he starts college.
59. What problem does Subash's invention solve?
A. Treating diseases like cancer.B. Discovering pesticides.

As we often use eyes to touch nature, most of us “lose” the ability to listen to the world.
Peter writes music. He likes sounds and uses natural sounds as part of his music. He often went out to the wild with his microphone and recorded interesting sounds to put in movies or to use in his own songs. He called these recordings “soundscapes”—— the sound of a certain place. Every soundscape Peter recorded had a lot of information.
Back in his workshop, Peter used a computer to make a picture of all the sounds going on in a place. Each animal, bird and insect had its own place on the picture—— its own notes in the music. The busier the picture, the richer the life in that place. “While a picture may be worth 1 000 words,a soundscape is worth 1 000 pictures,” Peter said. “Our ears tell us the sound of every leaf and animal and speak to the natural sources(来源) of our lives, which may hold the secrets of love for all things, especially our own humanity.”
But not everything is satisfying. When Peter began recording over forty years ago, he could record for ten hours and get one hour of usable material good enough for a movie. Now, because of human activities, it can take up to 1 000 hours or more to get the same thing. Some of the places he has recorded over the years have slowly fallen silent. His sound pictures show that although nature might look the same to humans, it has lost part of its orchestra(管弦乐队).
So next time you are in the forests, try another way to look—— shut your eyes, and listen
62. Why did Peter record natural sounds?
A. To write songs for a music group.
B. To discover rich lives in the forest.
C. To use some of them in his music.
D. To make music about birds singing.
63. What is a sound picture in the text?
A. The sound of every leaf and animal in nature.
B. The sound recorded in the natural environment.
C. A picture of music with sounds of 1 000 animals.
D. A picture of music with natural sounds in a place.
64. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A. Recording sounds needs less material.
B. Sound pictures are the same as before.
C. Some beautiful sounds in nature are lost.
D. Human activities improve recording results.
65. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. Nature is the source of our future.
B. Nature has wonders to be heard.
C. Making music enriches our lives.
D. Making music needs information.

After 10 years of difficult talks, nearly 200 countries agreed to a new United Nations (UN) agreement to protect the world's oceans. The agreement has been the first of its kind in 40 years. It plans to protect30% of the open oceans by 2030.
Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth's surface and are home to hundreds of thousands of different kinds of animals and plants. Healthy oceans are a very important part of a healthy planet. But the oceans are in trouble. Overfishing(捕捞过度) has had a terrible effect on many kinds of fish and other animals. Pollution from ships and other places has caused serious problems. In 1982, an agreement deseribed the“high seas(公海)”, but it did not protect them. In these areas, all countries have the right to fish, send ships, and do research. The high seas cover about two-thirds of the ocean. But now people only protect 1.2% of the areas.
Last December, over 110 countries agreed to protect 30% of their a and ocean areas by 2030. Without an international agreement, there
was no way to make this goal meaningful for the whole ocean. The new agreement now makes this feasible.
The new agreement tries to turn 30% of the high seas into protected areas by 2030. It also says that activities planned for the high seas must first be examined to see what kind of influences they might have on the ocean environment. Businesses in some countries hope to make a lot of money by getting valuable things from the bottom of the sea. Other businesses hope to find plants or animals in the ocean that could lead to new discoveries and new medicines.
Many of the disagreements were about how valuable things would be shared between rich countries and poor ones. Poor countries wanted to make sure that the valuable things would help everyone, not just people in rich countries.
66. How many countries agreed to a new United Nations (UN) agreement to protect the world's oceans?
A. Nearly 20 countries.
B. Very few countries.
C. Most countries in the world.
D. Just a few countries.
67. What does Paragraph 2 mainly show us?
A. The problems oceans face.
B. Some ways to protect oceans.
C. Different kinds of ocean creatures.
D. People's different ideas about oceans.
68. What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Awful. B. Painful. C. Possible. D. Dangerous.
69. What can we know from the passage?
A. The new agreement only tries to protect fish.
B. All countries will stop fishing in the high seas.
C. Valuable things from the oceans will go to rich countries.
D. Many countries have paid attention to protecting the oceans.
70. What's the best title for the text?
A. The Importance of Healthy Oceans
B. Overfishing and Pollution in the Oceans
C. A New Agreement to Protect the Open Oceans
D. Disagreements Between Rich and Poor Countries

第二节 阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Mental health is as important as physical health. In China, May 25th(5·25) is seen as Mental Health Day. The date“5·25” sounds like“I love me ” in Chinese, reminding us to care for our psychological(心理的) well-being.
Many teenagers experience stress from schoolwork, exams, or relationships. Without proper attention, these pressures may lead to anxiety(焦虑), low self-esteem(低自尊), or even depression. Good mental health helps us stay positive, build strong relationships, and face challenges confidently.
Here are some simple ways to stay mental healthy: Firstly, share your feelings—— Talking to trusted friends or family members can relieve stress.Secondly, stay active—— Regular exercise releases endorphins(内啡肽)that improve mood. Thirdly, get enough rest—— Sleep helps our brains recover from daily stress. Last but not least, practice self-care—— Doing things you enjoy, like reading or listening to music, can bring happiness.
Schools now pay more attention to students' mental health by offering counseling services(咨询服务) and mental health education. Remember, taking care of your mind is as important as taking care of your body. On this“5·25” Mental Health Day, let's promise to love ourselves and support others in their mental health journeys.
In summary, “5·25” Mental Health Day highlights the importance of self-love and emotional care. Simple actions can make a big difference. Let’s be kind to ourselves and seek help when needed.
71. When is Mental Health Day?
72. What problems can stress cause?

Small Acts, Big Changes
Dear classmates,
I'm Li Hua. I am going to give a speech on“Small Acts, BigChanges”. Small good deeds matter a lot. They bring warmth to the people around us. Also, when we help others, we feel happy and fulfilled.
How can we do good deeds? First, we can raise money for poor children by selling our old toys or books. Second, we can help neighbors, like carrying bags for the elderly. Besides, we can volunteer to clean up the park. These small acts are easy but meaningful.
Every kind act can make a difference. Let's work together to spread love and make the world better.
Thank you!
