Racers spend only part of a race on their bikes because only part of the two-mile race is smooth. Other parts of the race have the challenge of obstacles (障碍). When racers reach them, they can ride over them or pick up their bikes and run. To be a top racer, you must dismount without slowing down at all. To do this, swing your right leg over the bike seat. At the same time, move the bike away from your body. This makes room for your right foot to hit the ground next to your left foot. As your right foot nears the ground, take your left foot away from the bike. Put both feet on the ground and start running! As soon as you are running, you have to decide what to do with your bike. You may carry it or lift it. It’s important to practice both skills. Sometimes you need to run fast and jump over some obstacles. As your feet hit the ground, you reach down and catch the bottom of your bike. Lift up carefully and keep the bike on your right shoulder while you run. Sometimes you may lift your bike. You catch the top of your bike. Then you lift the bike high enough to get over the obstacles and carefully put the bike on the ground. After you have carried your bike across an obstacle, you will need to get back on your bike. As soon as your bike is on the ground, push off with your left leg, swing your right leg over the bike seat, and move into riding position. It will be the hardest skill of cyclocross. You can learn by watching someone who does well. Cyclocross is a great way to stay active and have fun. However, it can be dangerous. Make sure that you are well-prepared. Then, you will just need to go! 36. What can we learn about cyclocross from the text? A. It’s a no-obstacle bike race. B. It’s a cross-city bike race. C. It’s a challenging bike race. D. It’s a dangerous running race. 37. What does the underlined word “dismount” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Pick up a bike. B. Get off a bike. C. Get back on a bike. D. Practice riding a bike. 38. What is the text mainly about? A. The skills of cyclocross racing. B. The history of cyclocross racing. C. The records of cyclocross racing. D. The popularity of cyclocross racing. 【答案】36. C 37. B 38. 根据第一段“Racers spend only part of a race on their bikes because only part of the two-mile race is smooth. Other parts of the race have the challenge of obstacle.”可知,越野自行车赛只有部分赛道是平坦的,其他部分有障碍,具有挑战性,所以它是一项有挑战性的自行车赛。故选C。 【37题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“To do this, swing your right leg over the bike seat. At the same time, move the bike away from your body. This makes room for your right foot to hit the ground next to your left foot.” A。 B Technology has brought ancient poets “back to life”. At the World Robot Conference in late August in Beijing, there were two robots that looked like the Chinese poets Li Bai and Du Fu. They are called bionic (仿生的) robots, made by EXROBOTS from Liaoning, China. The robot’s skin is usually made of silicone (硅胶). It is very soft, and you can even see veins (血管) under it. Another human-like robot also interested people recently. It was created by US company Apptronik. Named Apollo, it has around 30 muscles (肌肉). For now, the robot can only make simple movements. The robot’s head has cameras and sensors (传感器) inside. They can help it map out a 360-degree view of its environment. They also help the robot keep balance when walking on unstable (不稳定的) surfaces. Nowadays, bionic human-like robots mostly work with humans, such as by being tour guides or helping visitors at front desks. This could be because people are comfortable living and working with machines that look and act like them. As more human-like robots come out, safety will be the key, according to the Robot Report. When a 70-kilogram robot breaks down and falls, humans nearby may get hurt. 39. What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Ancient poets really came back from life. B. The robots looked and acted like real ancient poets. C. People can go back in time to see ancient poets. D. The robots can create better poems than poets. 40. What does the skin of the robots made by EXROBOTS show? A. How human-like their robots are. B. What the robot’s skin is made from. C. How soft the robot’s skin is. D. When you don’t want to do housework. D. When you want to carry out scientific research. 42. What is the best title for this text? A. Falling in Love with Human-like Robots B. For years, scientists have tried to find out the causes of the shapes. The deserts are not as dry as they look. They have groundwater. A new study says this could help explain the mystery. Lucas Goehring, an expert in physics at Nottingham Trent University in England, led the study. He and his team came up with an explanation for the six-sided shapes. According to Goehring, below the desert surface is a layer (层) of salty water. You can reach it by digging with your hands. In the hot summer months, the water steams (蒸发). This leaves only salt behind. Some of the salt goes into the next layer of water. This layer of water then becomes thicker and saltier than the one below it. Then the saltier water goes down and the fresher water goes up. The process repeats itself to form what scientists call a convection roll (对流圈)which normally has a round shape. There are so many of the convection rolls and they press against each other to form the six-sided shapes. Scientists say they did their work out of curiosity (好奇心). “Nature presents us with a fascinating mystery,” said Jana Lasser, another expert who helped with the study. “It makes us want to solve it.” 46. What is the mystery most probably caused by according to the new study? A. The movement of sand. B. The strong sunlight in summer. C. The changing weather in the deserts. D. The movement of underground water. 47. Which of the following pictures shows a convection roll? A. B. C. D. 48. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. Nature is full of mysteries. B. Curiosity leads to new discoveries. C. We should protect the environment. D. Everyone has the ability to solve problems. 49. Why did the author write the text? A. To introduce a new study. B. To put forward some suggestions. C. To call for people to visit deserts. D. To share some personal experiences. 【答案】46. D 47. B 48. B 49. He bought some advertisement (广告) space near Minneapolis and made a billboard (广告牌) with a photo of himself on it. On the billboard, it said, “Hire me.” Bennett came up with this idea when he lost his job in March. Luckily, the idea worked. A lot of people sent Bennett messages to help him. After a month’s job hunting and several interviews, Bennett found a pleasant job in a company. Even though Bennett’s method cost him a lot of money, it was useful. According to a recent study, people spend only about six seconds reading a curriculum vitae (履历) before deciding whether to hire the person or not. And it is hard to find a job in today’s job market. “You should do something special to make yourself stand out from so many people,” said Steve Hine, from Minnesota. “Bennett’s great idea made him find the job successfully.” 50. Why did Bennett Olson put a photo of himself on a billboard? A. Because his parents gave him the idea. B. Because he had no girlfriend. C. Because he wanted to find a job. D. Because nobody knew him. 51. What did Bennett Olson write on the billboard? A. Hire me. B. I’m Bennett Olson. C. Believe it or not. D. Notice. 52. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? A. Bennett Olson is a young man from the USA. B. Steve Hine didn’t agree with Bennett’s idea. C. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them to go and look at a pear tree far away in turns. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly. The second son said it was covered with green leaves, and full of hope. The third son disagreed. He said there were many flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them, he said there was lots of fruit in the tree, full of life and harvest (收获). The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, but they only saw one season in the tree’s life. He told them “You cannot judge a tree, or a person by only one season—its true nature, the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life, can only be judged at the end when all the seasons are up.” 53. B Technology has brought ancient poets “back to life”. D. How different it is from other robots. 41. In which situation can bionic robots help you now? A. When you want someone to repair your car. B. When you want someone to travel with you. C. When you don’t want to do housework. D. When you want to carry out scientific research. 42. What is the best title for this text? A. Falling in Love with Human-like Robots B. The Advantages of Human-like Robots C. An Introduction of Human-like Robots D. How to Control a Human-like Robot C Do you think your school rules are boring? Take a look at these rules. No hugging Some schools in Portland and Florida started the rule-No hugging in 2010.Two years later some schools in New Jersey and Brooklyn made the same rule. The reason is clear-to avoid “unsuitable interactions(不适当的互动)” between students. No bags into the classroom One high school in Michigan doesn’t allow bags into the classroom at all The school asks students to return to their lockers(储物柜)between classes for their books in order to make sure they are safe in lunchrooms and classrooms. No Ugg boots(靴子) It might get very cold in winter in Pennsylvania, but students there aren’t allowed to wear their Ugg boots into class. D Some salty deserts are covered with patterns in six-sided shapes, and the ground looks like honeycombs(蜂窝).The six-sided shapes are always 1 to 2 metres across. E Bennett Olson, a young American man, used a special way to make himself noticed when he was looking for a job.
