The documentary Heaven and Earth, Heroes’ Valor (《天地英雄气》) came out earlier this year. It uses true stories and AI technology to bring history to life.
The documentary shows 12 heroes and groups. They include General Zhang Zizhong and the Five Heroes of Langya Mountain. “These people show the very heart of China’s wartime spirit—patriotism (爱国主义), courage and strong beliefs,” said Ren Chao, the director.
To connect with young people, the team used AI. One example is the part about Zuo Quan, a general who was killed in a battle (战役) in 1942. He only left one family photo. After many tries, the team turned it into a short AI video. In the video, Zuo holds his daughter and smiles. If you cry often in daily life, you might be called the weak. But crying is normal, and it can actually be good for us.

I am Li Hui. Last Mother’s Day was a special day for me.
