During the Tang Dynasty(618-907), Emperor Taizong asked the prime minister Feng Deyi to find talented people. However, several months passed, Feng didn’t find anyone.

“People are like utensils (器物). What we need to do is to make good use of their strengths. You should blame (责怪) yourself for not noticing talented people. How could you say that there are no talented people in our country?” said the emperor.
It is true that each utensil has a specific (特定的) function. A knife is made to cut things while chopsticks are made to pick up food. We can’t use a knife as a chopstick. Like a utensil, each person has his or her strength. Nobody is perfect. We can’t expect a person to be good at everything.
With this idea in mind, Emperor Taizong discovered many talented people of different backgrounds. He gave them important jobs, which helped them make the most of their talents. His talented people helped the society develop and created a “golden age”.

B.There are few talented people so it's hard to find them.
C.A good leader should use people's abilities in the right way.
D.The success of a society depends only on the abilities of its leader.
Being a good team leader helps a group work smoothly. Here are some useful ways:
1 . When a conflict happens (like two people wanting the same role), listen to each person’s opinion first. This makes them feel respected, and you can understand the problem better.
2 . After collecting opinions, make a decision and explain it clearly. For example, “I chose Mary because she is better at expressing the princess’s feelings, but Lisa will play the kind fairy—this role also needs a good actor.”
3 . Praise team members for their hard work, even if they don’t get the main role. Everyone likes to be recognized, and this keeps their enthusiasm high.
4 . If you make a mistake (like Tony’s silence at first), don’t be afraid to apologize. It shows you are responsible and makes the team trust you more.
5 . Ask your teacher or experienced people for advice when you’re stuck. They can give you new ideas to solve problems.
A.Make fair decisions and explain them
B.Listen to team members’ opinions
C.Ask for advice when needed

He had let his whole team down. His stupid mistake made him 2 (angry). His team had lost the game because of him. He was really 3 (worry) that his coach might kick 4 (he) off the team.
As soon as he walked through the door, his father asked, “What’s wrong, son?” Peter’s 5 (feel) were written all over his face. “I lost the game,” Peter replied. Then he went into his room without another word. Ten minutes later, Peter heard his father knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door to let him in.
“Look, Peter. I don’t know what happened. But whatever it was, don’t be too hard 6 yourself.”
“I lost the game, Dad. I failed my team. They’ll probably never let me play again.”
“Soccer is about team effort. You’re not the only reason your team lost. If you have a good team, you should support each other. Besides, winning or losing is only half the game. The other half is learning how to communicate with your teammates and learning from your mistakes.”
Peter didn’t say 7 , but what his father said made him think 8 (careful).
The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with courage rather than fear in the hear.
“Hey, guys, “he said to his teammates. “I’m really sorry about yesterday. We were so close to 9 (win) that game. But I think if we continue to pull together, we’re going to win the next one.”
To his surprise and relief, his teammates all 10 (nod) in agreement.

C.A good leader should use people's abilities in the right way.
D.The success of a society depends only on the abilities of its leader.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.A 5.C
根据“several months passed, Feng didn’t find anyone.”
根据“You should blame (责怪) yourself for not noticing talented people. How could you say that there are no talented people in our country?”及“We can’t expect a person to be good at everything.”
根据“A knife is made to cut things while chopsticks are made to pick up food. We can’t use a knife as a chopstick. Like a utensil, each person has his or her strength.”
根据“each person has his or her strength. Nobody is perfect. We can’t expect a person to be good at everything.” 故选A。
根据“He gave them important jobs, which helped them make the most of their talents.”
D.Praise others for their efforts
E.Apologize for your mistakes
F.Ignore team conflicts
G.Let others make all decisions
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.E 5.C
