In the summer of 2016, Glenda and Raphael Savitz moved into their new home in Newton and had their daughter Samantha soon. Unluckily, Samantha was born deaf. But that didn’t stop Samantha growing into an outgoing girl. When she was out, she tried to communicate with her neighbors. She believes in the power (影响) of community. “Samantha is creating a reason for us to get together,” she says.
It was not easy for the neighbors to learn sign language, but they enjoyed the process (过程). Before long, they could communicate with the little girl freely. Both Samantha and her parents were very happy. “We are seeing changes in Samantha. We’re just so thankful that we live here and we are surrounded (被围绕) by these wonderful people,” Samantha’s mother says. “I can’t think of a better place for my daughter.”
