In locations such as this, the thin air, 30 weather and high levels of UV radiation presented perhaps the greatest 31 for railway workers. To make sure we stayed 32 , several oxygen-making stations were constructed. We were also able to enjoy 33 breaks in lower areas. As we pass Cuona Lake, I feel a sense of pride and achievement. Using thousands and thousands of sandbags, we built a twenty-kilometre wall along the lake to protect it from construction waste. Cuona Lake is so close to the railway that I want to 34 and touch its pale blue mirror-like surface. Water birds playing in the lake, and cattle and sheep wandering the grasslands bring the scenery to life. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has been attracting people’s admiration for centuries. The book Writing Without Teachers introduced me to one distinction and one practice that has helped my writing processes tremendously. The distinction is between the creative mind and the critical mind. While you need to employ both to get to a finished result, they cannot work in parallel no matter how much we might like to think so. Trying to criticize writing on the fly is possibly the single greatest barrier to writing that most of us encounter. If you are listening to that 5th grade English teacher correct your grammar while you are trying to capture a fleeting (稍纵即逝的) thought, the thought will die. If you capture the fleeting thought and simply share it with the world in raw form, no one is likely to understand. You must learn to create first and then criticize if you want to make writing the tool for thinking that it is. The practice that can help you past your learned bad habits of trying to edit as you write is what Elbow calls “free writing”. In free writing, the objective is to get words down on paper non-stop, usually for 15-20 minutes. No stopping, no going back, no criticizing. The goal is to get the words flowing. As the words begin to flow, the ideas will come from the shadows and let themselves be captured on your notepad or your screen. Now you have raw materials that you can begin to work with using the critical mind that you’ve persuaded to sit on the side and watch quietly. Most likely, you will believe that this will take more time than you actually have and you will end up staring blankly at the pages as the deadline draws near. Instead of staring at a blank start filling it with words no matter how bad. Halfway through your available time, stop and rework your raw writing into something closer to finished product. Move back and forth until you run out of time and the final result will most likely be far better than your current practices. 41.When the author says the creative mind and the critical mind “cannot work in parallel ” in the writing process, he means ______ . A.putting their ideas in raw form B.ignoring grammatical soundness C.attempting to edit as they write D.trying to capture fleeting thoughts 43.What is the chief objective of the first stage of writing? A.To organize one’s thoughts logically. B.To get one’s ideas down. C.To choose an appropriate topic. D.To collect raw materials. 44.One common concern of writers about “ free writing ” is that ______ . A.it overstresses the role of the creative mind B.it does not help them to think clearly C.it may bring about too much criticism D.it takes too much time to edit afterwards 45.In what way does the critical mind help the writer in the writing process? A.It allows him to sit on the side and observe. B.It helps him to come up with new ideas. C.It saves the writing time available to him. D.It improves his writing into better shape. 根据第二段“Trying to criticize writing on the fly is possibly the single greatest barrier to writing that most of us encounter. If you are listening to that 5th grade English teacher correct your grammar while you are trying to capture a fleeting (稍纵即逝的) thought, the thought will die. If you capture the fleeting thought and simply share it with the world in raw form, no one is likely to understand. You must learn to create first and then criticize if you want to make writing the tool for thinking that it is.(试图在写作创作过程中急于批评可能是我们大多数人遇到的最大的写作障碍。如果你听着五年级的英语老师纠正你的语法,而你试图抓住一个稍纵即逝的想法,这个想法就会消失。如果你捕捉转瞬即逝的想法,并简单地以原始的形式与世界分享,可能没有人会理解。如果你想让写作成为思考的工具,你必须先学会创作,然后再学会批评。)”可知,当作者说创造性思维和批判性思维在写作过程中“不能并行工作”时,他的意思是一个人不能同时使用它们,同时使用往往不成功,要先创作后批评。故选A项。 42. 根据第三段中“The practice that can help you past your learned bad habits of trying to edit as you write is what Elbow calls ‘free writing’. In free writing, the objective is to get words down on paper non-stop, usually for 15-20 minutes. No stopping, no going back, no criticizing. (Elbow所说的“自由写作”可以帮助你克服你养成的边写边编辑的坏习惯。自由写作的目标是不间断地在纸上写下词语,通常持续15-20分钟。不许停下来,不许回去重写,不许批评。)”可知,阻止人们继续写作的是试图在写作时进行编辑。故选C项。 43.细节理解题。根据第三段中“In free writing, the objective is to get words down on paper non-stop, usually for 15-20 minutes. (自由写作的目标是不间断地在纸上写下词语,通常持续15-20分钟。不许停下来,不许回去重写,不许批评。)”可知,写作第一阶段的主要目标是把自己的想法写下来。故选B项。 44.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Most likely, you will believe that this will take more time than you actually have and you will end up staring blankly at the pages as the deadline draws near. (最有可能的情况是,你会认为这将花费比你实际拥有的更多的时间,最后你会在截止日期临近时呆呆地盯着文件页。)”可知,作家们对“自由写作”的一个普遍担忧是事后编辑需要太多时间。故选D项。 45.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Instead of staring at a blank start filling it with words no matter how bad.Halfway through your available time, stop and rework your raw writing into something closer to finished product. Move back and forth until you run out of time and the final result will most likely be far better than your current practices. (开始填满词语,不管有多糟糕,而不是只盯着空白。在你的空闲时间中,停下来,重新编写你的原始作品,使其更接近于成品。反复修改,直到你用完时间,最后的结果很可能会比你现在的做法好得多。)”可知,在写作过程中,首先要毫无忌惮地去创作,最后批判性思维会使作者的写作变得更好。故选D项。 C Tao Yuanming and Henry David Thoreau were both poets, but one lived in Ancient China and the other in 19th century America. Superficially, these two men, whose lives were separated in time by nearly 1,500 years, were polar opposites. And yet they shared an intense respect for nature, which made them each an influential figure of their time. Both men made dramatic transformations to their lives in order to reconnect with nature. As an official in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Tao felt conflicted over life at court. In 405, he quit the service of the court for good, expressing his unhappiness in the now famous line that he would not “bow like a servant in return for five dou of grain”. He spent the next 22 years until his death, working the land in a poor, rural area. From his poetry, we can learn that although his life was arduous, he succeeded in finding contentment in its simplicity and in drawing pleasure from nature. While Tao’s return to nature was a reaction to a lifestyle he was opposed to, Thoreau’s was a personal decision to transform the way he lived. He had a decent quality of life, but he wanted to live in a simpler way. For two years, two months and two days, he lived in a cottage in the forest on the edge of Walden Pond, focusing on himself and his writing. He explained his reason for doing so in Walden: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life.” Both men were happy to withdraw from contemporary life, seeking a harmonious relationship with nature in the quietness of their lives. Although Tao and Thoreau do not treat nature in quite the same way, their works show its beauty and value. Tao’s nature is a place of fields and villages, in other words, rural, and his animals are domestic ones, such as chickens and dogs. The calm and peaceful life he wrote about is in contrast to and critical of the depressive court life. Thoreau’s descriptions of nature emphasized the beauty and purity of the wild areas around him. Devoting himself to observations of the natural phenomena, he recorded his detailed findings in his journals. Thoreau’s writing aimed to convince people that animals and plants had a right to live and prosper, as we do. We should live with them in harmony and enjoy nature’s gifts. It takes considerable courage to reject the easy and familiar and instead try to live closer to nature, as both Tao and Thoreau did. Their choices led them to quiet and reflective lives with fewer material desires. In today’s modern world, their ideas about living simply and being at ease with nature may take us a step closer to attaining personal well-being and fulfillment. 46.Why did Tao Yuanming leave the court? A.Because he was too old. B.Because he felt conflicted over life at court. C.Because he liked nature so much. D.Because he liked living in a rural area. 47.What do Tao Yuanming and Thoreau have in common? A.They treated nature in the same way. B.They lived in the same century. C.They were both unsatisfied with their leaders. D.Their works showed the beauty of nature. 48.What did Thoreau describe in his writings? A.Fields and villages. B.Chickens and dogs. C.Animals and plants. D.Mountains and rivers. 49.What does Thoreau’s work mainly embody (体现)? A.Nature’s wilderness is beautiful. B.We should raise more animals. C.Man should live in harmony with nature. D.we should live in the rural area. 50.What should we do if we want to attain personal well-being and fulfillment? A.Live closer to nature. B.Increase material desires. C.Walk a lot in the forest. D.Share a respect for nature. 根据第二段第二、三句话“As an official in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Tao felt conflicted over life at court. In 405, he quit the service of the court for good, expressing his unhappiness in the now famous line that he would not “bow like a servant in return for five dou of grain”. (作为东晋的一名官员,陶渊明对官场生活感到矛盾。405年,他永久退出官场,用现在著名的一句话表达了他的不满,那就是——不为五斗米折腰)”可知,陶渊明离开官场的原因是他对朝廷的生活感到矛盾。故选B。 47.细节理解题。根据第四段第一句话“Although Tao and Thoreau do not treat nature in quite the same way, their works show its beauty and value. (虽然陶和梭罗对待自然的态度不同,但他们的作品表现出了自然的美和价值)”可知,陶渊明和梭罗对待自然地态度虽然不同,但是他们在作品中都表现了自然的美和价值。故选D。 48.推理判断题。根据第五段倒数第二句话“Thoreau’s writing aimed to convince people that animals and plants had a right to live and prosper, as we do. (梭罗的写作旨在让人们相信动植物和我们一样有生存和繁荣的权利)”可知,梭罗的写作旨在让人们相信动植物和人类一样有生存和繁荣的权利。由此可推知,在他的作品中会描写动物和植物。故选C。 49.推理判断题。根据第三段最后一句话“Both men were happy to withdraw from contemporary life, seeking a harmonious relationship with nature in the quietness of their lives.(两人都乐于退出当代生活,在平静的生活中寻求与大自然的和谐关系)”以及第五段最后一句话“We should live with them in harmony and enjoy nature’s gifts. (我们应该与他们和谐相处,享受大自然的恩赐。)”可推知,梭罗的作品主要体现出人类应该和大自然和谐共处。故选C。 50.推理判断题。根据最后一段“It takes considerable courage to reject the easy and familiar and instead try to live closer to nature, as both Tao and Thoreau did. Their choices led them to quiet and reflective lives with fewer material desires. In today’s modern world, their ideas about living simply and being at ease with nature may take us a step closer to attaining personal well-being and fulfillment.( 就像陶和梭罗一样,拒绝容易和熟悉的事物,转而努力贴近自然,这需要相当大的勇气。他们的选择使他们过上了平静、沉思的生活,物质欲望更少。在今天的现代世界中,他们关于简单生活和与自然和谐相处的想法可能会使我们离实现个人幸福和成就更近一步)”可知,就像陶和梭罗一样,拒绝容易和熟悉的事物,转而努力贴近自然,这需要相当大的勇气,但正是因为这样,他们才过上了平静,幸福的生活。由此可推知,如果我们想获得个人幸福感和成就感,就要贴近自然,平静地生活。故选A。 D In the bustling heart of modern cities, where skyscrapers tower overhead and concrete spreads like a vast blanket, urban community gardens have emerged as vibrant oases of green. These small plots of land — nestled between apartment buildings, on rooftop terraces, or in abandoned lots — are more than just places to grow vegetables and flowers; they are powerful connectors of people, cultures, and nature. What began as a simple way to reclaim unused space has evolved into a global movement that enriches both individuals and communities. For city dwellers, community gardens offer a rare chance to reconnect with the natural world. Many urban residents spend their days in offices or apartments, far from the rhythms of growing things. Tending to soil, planting seeds, and watching plants mature provides a therapeutic escape from the stress of city life. Studies have shown that gardening reduces anxiety and improves mental well-being, as the act of nurturing life fosters a sense of purpose and calm. Children, too, benefit greatly — they learn where food comes from, develop a sense of responsibility, and gain hands-on experience with science and nature, lessons that textbooks alone cannot teach. Beyond personal benefits, these gardens strengthen community bonds. Neighbors from diverse backgrounds come together to share tools, exchange gardening tips, and celebrate harvests. Elderly residents pass down traditional farming knowledge, while younger generations bring fresh ideas and energy. In many neighborhoods, garden plots become spaces for cultural exchange, where immigrants grow native plants and share recipes with their neighbors, creating a tapestry of flavors and traditions. During the harvest season, shared feasts bring everyone together, turning acquaintances into friends and building a sense of belonging that is often missing in fast-paced urban environments. Urban community gardens also play a vital role in promoting sustainability. They reduce food miles by providing locally grown produce, cutting down on the carbon emissions associated with transportation. By absorbing rainwater, they help mitigate urban flooding, and their plants improve air quality by filtering pollutants. In areas with limited access to fresh food, these gardens act as community fridges, ensuring that low-income families have access to nutritious vegetables and fruits. As cities face the challenges of climate change and rapid urbanization, community gardens offer a simple yet effective way to build resilience and create more livable spaces. In a world that often feels disconnected, urban community gardens remind us of the power of working together and caring for the earth. They are living proof that even in the busiest cities, a little bit of green can grow into something extraordinary-nurturing not just plants, but people, communities, and a more sustainable future. 51.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To introduce the history of urban community gardens. B.To explain the multiple values of urban community gardens. C.To discuss the challenges of maintaining urban community gardens. D.To compare urban community gardens with traditional farms. 52.Which of the following is a benefit of urban community gardens for children? A.They can learn traditional farming skills from immigrants. B.They can reduce the carbon emissions of the family. C.They can gain practical experience with science and nature. D.They can organize shared feasts with neighborhood adults. 53.The underlined phrase “food miles” in Paragraph 4 probably refers to _____. A.the distance food travels from production to consumption B.the number of miles people walk to buy fresh food C.the area of land used to grow food in cities D.the time it takes for food to ripen in gardens 54.We can infer from the passage that urban community gardens _____. A.are mainly built on rooftop terraces in big cities B.help improve the social connection in urban areas C.have solved the problem of food shortage for low-income families D.require professional gardening knowledge to maintain 55.What is the author’s attitude towards urban community gardens? A.Critical. B.Doubtful. C.Neutral. D.Supportive. 通读全文,尤其是根据第一段“In the bustling heart of modern cities, where skyscrapers tower overhead and concrete spreads like a vast blanket, urban community gardens have emerged as vibrant oases of green. These small plots of land — nestled between apartment buildings, on rooftop terraces, or in abandoned lots — are more than just places to grow vegetables and flowers; they are powerful connectors of people, cultures, and nature. What began as a simple way to reclaim unused space has evolved into a global movement that enriches both individuals and communities.(在现代都市繁华的中心,摩天大楼高耸入云,水泥地面如巨毯般铺展,都市社区花园已然成为充满生机的绿色绿洲。 根据第二段中“Children, too, benefit greatly — they learn where food comes from, develop a sense of responsibility, and gain hands-on experience with science and nature, lessons that textbooks alone cannot teach.(孩子们也受益匪浅——他们了解食物的来源,培养责任感,并获得科学和自然的实践经验,这些是课本无法单独传授的课程。)” 根据第四段中“They reduce food miles by providing locally grown produce, cutting down on the carbon emissions associated with transportation.(它们通过提供本地种植的农产品来减少food miles,从而减少与运输相关的碳排放。)” 故选A。 54. 根据第三段中“Beyond personal benefits, these gardens strengthen community bonds. Neighbors from diverse backgrounds come together to share tools, exchange gardening tips, and celebrate harvests.(除了个人益处外,这些花园还加强了社区联系。来自不同背景的邻居聚在一起分享工具、交流园艺技巧、庆祝丰收。)”以及“During the harvest season, shared feasts bring everyone together, turning acquaintances into friends and building a sense of belonging that is often missing in fast-paced urban environments.(在收获季节,共享的盛宴将大家聚集在一起,将熟人变成朋友,并建立起一种在快节奏的城市环境中常常缺失的归属感。)” 根据最后一段“In a world that often feels disconnected, urban community gardens remind us of the power of working together and caring for the earth. They are living proof that even in the busiest cities, a little bit of green can grow into something extraordinary-nurturing not just plants, but people, communities, and a more sustainable future.(在一个常常感觉脱节的世界里,城市社区花园提醒我们合作和关爱地球的力量。它们是活生生的证明,即使在最繁忙的城市里,一点点绿色也能成长为非凡的东西——不仅滋养植物,还滋养人们、社区和更可持续的未来。)”可知,作者对城市社区花园持支持态度。故选D。 第二部分:写作(共两节,满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。 Until last January. I was very much a prose(散文)writer. I loved to write short stories but couldn’t stand poetry because it seemed like a lazy version. But then I entered a local poetry competition and won a prize. I read my poem at the award ceremony, and received a positive reaction from the audience. It was then that I realized poetry was much more interesting and diverse than I had previously thought, and that maybe I wasn’t too bad at writing it. Since February. I have been trying to write poetry as often as possible, and it proves that somehow I like it now. Poetry isn’t a lazier version of prose, but it can be an easier one. This is because there are fewer rules in poetry and it is far more personal. What makes it so interesting is that it is told through the poet’s style. This is what makes writing poetry such a good method of calming yourself down Writing about worries, stresses and insecurities can really help you to make sense of how you feel about them, and to create something-valuable from a bad situation. It also helps poems to catch on quickly. People love to hear personal stories about troubles they also struggle with. Not only is poetry a fantastic form of therapy (治疗), but it can also earn you respect and sometimes even a career. As more and more poetry competitions for young people are set up, it is easier than ever to get recognized. As well as competitions, there are events such as poetry salons where you can share poems with others. Social media can also be a good platform for poetry. So why not give it a try?Write about whatever is in your mind, and don’t worry about following any rules. Let yourself be inspired and inspire someone else. 56.How did the author feel about poetry in the past? (no more than 10 words) 57.What’s the turning point for the author’s starting writing poems? (no more than 10 words) 58.In the author’s opinion, what is the difference between poetry and prose?(no more than 10 words) 59.How do you understand the underlined part in Paragraph 3? (no more than 10 words) 60.What can you learn from the author’s experience? (no more than 20 words) 【答案】56.She disliked it due to its seemingly lazy version. 57.Winning a prize at a local competition. 58.Poetry is for more personal with fewer rules to follow 59.It also makes poems popular with people. 60.I think should be brave enough to try new things, which can bring us some unexpected benefits. 根据第一段的第三句“I loved to write short stories but couldn’t stand poetry because it seemed like a lazy version.(我喜欢写短篇小说,但不能忍受诗歌,因为它看起来像是一个懒惰的版本)”可知,作者过去不喜欢诗歌,因为它看起来像是一个懒惰的版本。 She disliked it due to its seemingly lazy version. 57. 根据第一段第四句开始“But then I entered a local poetry competition and won a prize. I read my poem at the award ceremony, and received a positive reaction from the audience. It was then that I realized poetry was much more interesting and diverse than I had previously thought, and that maybe I wasn’t too bad at writing it.(但后来我参加了一个当地的诗歌比赛并得了奖。我在颁奖典礼上朗读了我的诗,并得到了观众的积极反应。就在那时,我意识到诗歌比我之前想象的更有趣、更多样,也许我写诗的能力并不差)”可知,作者在当地的诗歌比赛中得奖这事,是作者开始写诗的转折点。故答案为:Winning a prize at a local competition. 58. 根据第二段第二、三句“Poetry isn’t a lazier version of prose, but it can be an easier one. This is because there are fewer rules in poetry and it is far more personal.(诗歌不是散文的懒惰版本,但它可以是一种更简单的形式。这是因为诗歌中的规则较少,而且更加个人化)”可知,作者认为,诗歌与散文相比较,写诗歌时规则更少,更个人化。故答案为:Poetry is for more personal with fewer rules to follow. 59. 划线后句子“People love to hear personal stories about troubles they also struggle with.(人们喜欢听他们与困难斗争的个人故事)”,可知划线句子意思是“它也使诗歌受到人们的欢迎”,故答案为:It also makes poems popular with people. 60. 第一段第二句“I loved to write short stories but couldn’t stand poetry because it seemed like a lazy version(我喜欢写短篇小说,但不能忍受诗歌,因为它看起来像是一个懒惰的版本)”到第二段第一句“Since February, I have been trying to write poetry as often as possible, and it proves that somehow I like it now.(自二月以来,我一直在尝试尽可能多地写诗,这证明我现在喜欢上了它)”作者对诗歌的态度的变化,以及第四段“Not only is poetry a fantastic form of therapy (治疗), but it can also earn you respect and sometimes even a career. (诗歌不仅是一种奇妙的治疗形式,它还能让你获得尊重,有时甚至成为一种职业)”可知,作者感悟到了写诗歌的好处。根据作者的经历,读者得到鼓励,故答案为:I think should be brave enough to try new things, which can bring us some unexpected benefits. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Dear Chris, Having got the book you sent me, I can’t help writing this email to express my gratitude to you. The train has been racing along steadily since it left Xining. All this time, the song “Sky Railway” has been 16 inside my head. The words “railways like massive dragons are winding among the mountains” seem particularly 17 as I travel across the “roof of the world”. I was one of the people who came from all parts of China to work on this railway. 18 years to complete, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway is a record of all of our efforts to 19 the most difficult engineering challenges. How to 20 the delicate ecosystem was among the top concerns. The first 21 to catch my eye is the splendid Qingshuihe Bridge, the world’s longest bridge built over permafrost. Look! A group of Tibetan antelopes is moving under the bridge, with some stopping to eat grass at their 22 . Thirty-three passages have been built under the railway to allow the animals to move safely and freely in their natural 23 . Wild animals such as these Tibetan antelopes have now been using these 24 for years. They seem totally 25 that we are speeding past at over 100 kilometres an hour. B.To share different kinds of reading materials. C.To advertise books written by young writers. D.To introduce some well-known writers. B I’ve been writing for most of my life. A.one cannot use them at the same time B.they cannot be regarded as equally important C.they are in constant conflict with each other D.no one can be both creative and critical 42.What prevents people from writing on is ______ . C Tao Yuanming and Henry David Thoreau were both poets, but one lived in Ancient China and the other in 19th century America. D In the bustling heart of modern cities, where skyscrapers tower overhead and concrete spreads like a vast blanket, urban community gardens have emerged as vibrant oases of green. Until last January. A.one cannot use them at the same time B.they cannot be regarded as equally important C.they are in constant conflict with each other D.no one can be both creative and critical 42.What prevents people from writing on is ______ . C Tao Yuanming and Henry David Thoreau were both poets, but one lived in Ancient China and the other in 19th century America. D In the bustling heart of modern cities, where skyscrapers tower overhead and concrete spreads like a vast blanket, urban community gardens have emerged as vibrant oases of green. Until last January.
