Meng Xiang was crazy about films and music during his childhood. When he started college, he dreamed of making films that could combine (结合) his love for storytelling and interest in music.
His biggest challenge came when he planned to make a film about a tennis player. Since no one would offer him money for a 2-hour film, Meng and his college friends tried to make a shorter one. They bought a second-hand camera and used old things instead of expensive equipment (设备). They even made a shelf on their own to support the camera.
Meng and his friends worked hard, rain or shine. When filming the tennis player, they ran after him in the summer sun. If it rained and they couldn’t film outside, they hung bed sheets (床单) on the walls in an empty room to set up a simple studio (摄影棚). This 12-minute film got much attention. The teachers and students in their college liked the music they created for it.
After that, Meng had another idea: to make a musical film. But musicals weren’t popular in college, and many said it wouldn’t work. Instead of listening to the doubts, Meng and his team spent weeks writing new songs and making a test video. To film the moving scenes, they fixed a smartphone on a skateboard and pushed it. The actors’ hair was blowing in the wind while they were dancing and singing. The loud voice and laughter of the team filled the air.
Their musical film was well received and won several awards at a film festival. As Meng said, “Making films isn’t about having the best equipment or famous actors. It’s about finding new ways to tell your story. Our team is planning to make a special documentary about environment. And I can’t wait to write music for it.”

Do you always feel lonely? When do you feel lonely? Is loneliness a good feeling? Today, more and more people are having this kind of feeling in their daily lives. When someone feels lonely, he or she will have an experience of being alone because of low levels of social contact and relationships.
There are two kinds of loneliness: emotional loneliness and social loneliness. Emotional loneliness is easy to understand. For example, when children leave their parents for a while, they usually show the pain, such as crying and trying to search for their parents. So, emotional loneliness is the result of leaving a person that someone is close to, such as a parent. On the other hand, social loneliness is the loneliness that one experiences when he or she leaves a wide social network. One doesn’t feel that he or she is a member of a group, or one doesn’t have friends to talk to when he or she is sad.
Besides, loneliness is different from being alone. Being alone is about not having contact with people. But loneliness is a subjective experience: if people think they are lonely, then they are lonely. People can be lonely when they are alone, or in a group. What makes people lonely is the fact that they want more social interaction. People can be in a group and feel lonely because they don’t get to talk to enough people. On the other hand, people can be alone and not feel lonely, though there is no one around them. They are not lonely because maybe they don’t want to have social interaction at that time.
So, what about you? Will you feel lonely if you stay alone? Or do you just enjoy the time being with yourself?
8.Why did the writer start the text with questions?
A.To let readers answer these questions. B.To ask for more ideas about loneliness.

A.They have no friends to talk to. B.They have a small social network.

A.A hot subject. B.A person’s own feeling.

10.第三段“But loneliness is a subjective experience: if people think they are lonely, then they are lonely. People can be lonely when they are alone, or in a group.”

On a cold winter night, two beagles, Pepper and Cooper, walked along a snowy road in Bethel, Ohio. They had no home and needed a safe, warm place to rest. Pepper, the female dog, was pregnant, and Cooper stayed close to protect her.
Gus Kiebel, a wildlife officer, was driving home when he saw the dogs in the snow. He noticed they wore collars with name tags. Gus stopped his truck and gently approached them. The dogs didn’t try to run away. He read their names and tried calling the number on their tags, but the snow made it hard to use his phone.
Gus decided to take the dogs into his truck to keep them warm. He called the number again, but the owner said he didn’t want the dogs anymore. Realizing they were abandoned, Gus called his wife, Katie. She told him to bring them home because they couldn’t leave the dogs outside in the storm.
That night, Gus and Katie gave the dogs food, water, and a warm bed on their porch. The two beagles stayed close to each other showing how much they cared for each other. Although Gus had always wanted beagles, the couple already had a family dog and couldn’t keep Pepper and Cooper.
The next day, Gus contacted a no-kill animal shelter. Katie brought the dogs there but made the staff promise to keep them together. She called often to check on them, glad to hear they were safe and cared for. A few days after Christmas, the shelter told her Pepper and Cooper had been adopted as a pair by a loving family. 二、任务型阅读
How to Make a Good Study Plan
Do you always feel there is too much homework and too little time? A good study plan can help you manage (管理) your time, reduce stress, and improve your grades.
First, you need to know what you must do. List all your subjects and the tasks for each, like homework, reviewing, and preparing for tests. Don’t forget to include your regular activities, such as sports or music classes.
After listing everything, it’s time to prioritize (划分优先顺序). You can use labels like “very important”, “important”, and “not urgent” to decide which tasks to do first. This helps you focus on what really matters.
Your plan should work for you, not against you. If you find you are more focused in the morning, plan your most difficult subjects for that time. If you are a night person, do the easy review work in the evening.
Finally, remember that a plan can change. If you have a sudden school event, you can adjust your plan. The most important thing is to get started. A good plan is your first step towards success.
A.This means deciding which tasks are the most important.
B.It is not a good idea to study for a long time without rest.
C.Start by writing down all your schoolwork and activities.
D.Everyone has their own most productive (高产的) time of the day.

The actors’ hair was blowing in the wind while they were dancing and singing. The loud voice and laughter of the team filled the air.
Their musical film was well received and won several awards at a film festival. As Meng said, “Making films isn’t about having the best equipment or famous actors.

A.They have no friends to talk to. B.They have a small social network.
C.They have a feeling of being lonely. D.They don’t get on well with their parents.
10.What does the underlined phrase “a subjective experience” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.A hot subject. B.A person’s own feeling.
C.A pain in the body. D.A person’s special plan.
11.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Why people feel lonely. B.Loneliness is different from being alone.
C.How to enjoy the time being with ourselves. D.What loneliness is and the kinds of loneliness.
On a cold winter night, two beagles, Pepper and Cooper, walked along a snowy road in Bethel, Ohio. They had no home and needed a safe, warm place to rest. Pepper, the female dog, was pregnant, and Cooper stayed close to protect her.
