All the Other Mothers Hate Me, by Sarah Harman This book got me out of a reading rut! It’s about a mom who is struggling to keep her life together — while at the same time trying to solve the mystery of her son’s missing classmate. It’s got fun twists (反转) and characters who surprise you. Very plot driven and definitely hard to put down. — Elissa Nadworny, correspondent Audition, by Katie Kitamura I guess I could explain the plot to you: An actress meets up with a man who is convinced she’s his mother. It turns out she’s not. I think? Maybe she is? Or, maybe she’s not but actually kind of is? What is a mother? The most impressive thing about this Booker Prize finalist is how Katie Kitamura plays with the description of events and toys with the reader without being overly clever about it all. She’s tight with details and answers, but generous with tricks and depth. — Andrew Limbong, correspondent, Culture Desk and host, Book of the Day Death of the Author, by Nnedi Okorafor In this book, the truth isn’t revealed until the very end. The plot jumps back and forth between two connected stories: one about a human author and one about a robot lost in human stories. The book explores some big themes, including fame and the power of storytelling. But one of my favorite things about it is that the robot storyline is really exciting. I couldn’t put this book down, and thank goodness I didn’t, or I would have missed the final twist! — Rebecca Hersher, correspondent, Climate Desk 1. What is Audition about? A. An acting class. B. A confusing identity. C. A robot’s story. D. A missing student. 2. Why does the reviewer praise Death of the Author? A. It won a big prize. B. It’s easy to understand. C. It ends unexpectedly. D. It teaches robot science. 3. What do the three books have in common? A. They provide clear facts. B. They lack details. C. They keep readers guessing. D. They tell true stories. B 2. C 3. 根据Audition, by Katie Kitamura部分中“I guess I could explain the plot to you: An actress meets up with a man who is convinced she’s his mother. It turns out she’s not. I think? Maybe she is? Or, maybe she’s not but actually kind of is? What is a mother?(我想我可以大致讲讲剧情:一名女演员遇见一名男子,对方坚信她是自己的母亲。结果她并不是。是吗?或许是?又或者不是,却又有点是?母亲究竟意味着什么?)”可知,这本书围绕令人困惑的身份展开。故选B。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Death of the Author, by Nnedi Okorafor部分中“In this book, the truth isn’t revealed until the very end.(在这本书中,真相直到最后才被揭晓。)”以及“I couldn’t put this book down, and thank goodness I didn’t, or I would have missed the final twist!(我放不下这本书,谢天谢地我没有,否则我就会错过最后的反转了!)” All the Other Mothers Hate Me, by Sarah Harman部分中“Very plot driven and definitely hard to put down.(情节非常吸引人,绝对让人爱不释手。)”;Audition, by Katie Kitamura部分中“What is a mother? The most impressive thing about this Booker Prize finalist is how Katie Kitamura plays with the description of events and toys with the reader without being overly clever about it all. She’s tight with details and answers, but generous with tricks and depth.(母亲究竟意味着什么?这部入围布克奖的作品最令人印象深刻的是,Katie Kitamura如何巧妙地描述事件,与读者周旋,而又不过于卖弄聪明。她对细节和答案很严谨,但在技巧和深度上却很慷慨。)”以及Death of the Author, by Nnedi Okorafor部分中“In this book, the truth isn’t revealed until the very end.(在这本书中,真相直到最后才被揭晓。)” C。 B I had to run another phone marathon the other day. Most of you have probably had to do the same at some point in your lives. This one started when I got a bill in the mail with a mistake on it. I knew what getting on the phone to straighten it out would mean but it had to be done. I started by calling the help number on the bill. This led me to the automated phone system with the endless list of options that I had to work through one at a time. Finally I was able to transfer to a person only to be sent overseas with noise on the line and a hard-to-understand operator. And of course they couldn’t help me so I got transferred from department to department while I ground my teeth and tightened my fist. I was about to give up and hang up the phone in frustration when I finally got transferred back to a manager in this country. The line suddenly sounded crisp, clear, and free of noise. And the voice that answered was cheerful. I could actually hear the smile in her voice too. She was polite, understanding, caring and helped me to clear up the mistake. When we were done I thanked her for her help and wished her a wonderful day. She replied in kind. I hung up tired from my marathon but curiously refreshed as well. I have no ill feelings towards the other operators I spoke to. They were only doing their jobs as best they could. I am grateful, though, that I stayed on the line long enough — despite all the frustration — to make a connection with a person so full of goodness, joyfulness, and love. 4. What does the writer want to stress by using the word “marathon” in paragraph 1? A. Physical demands. B. The call conditions. C. Repeated experiences. D. The struggle involved. 5. How did the writer feel during most of the calls? A. Angry. B. Calm. C. Hopeful. D. Confused. 6. What made the writer feel curiously refreshed? A. A cheerful greeting. B. The clear phone line. C. Fast problem solutions. D. Warm human kindness. 7. What is the writer’s main purpose? A. To explain a billing mistake. B. To share a lesson in patience. C. To introduce a helpful manager. D. To complain about phone service. 4. D 5. A 6. D 7. And of course they couldn’t help me so I got transferred from department to department while I ground my teeth and tightened my fist.(这场马拉松始于一封邮寄来的账单,上面有一个错误。 根据文章第一段“And of course they couldn’t help me so I got transferred from department to department while I ground my teeth and tightened my fist. I was about to give up and hang up the phone in frustration when I finally got transferred back to a manager in this country.(当然,他们根本帮不了我,于是我就在咬牙切齿、攥紧拳头的状态下,被一个部门转接至另一个部门。 故选A。 根据文章第二段“The line suddenly sounded crisp, clear, and free of noise. And the voice that answered was cheerful. I could actually hear the smile in her voice too. She was polite, understanding, caring and helped me to clear up the mistake. When we were done I thanked her for her help and wished her a wonderful day. She replied in kind. I hung up tired from my marathon but curiously refreshed as well.(电话那头的声音突然变得清晰、干脆,没有一丝杂音。 根据文章最后一段“I am grateful, though, that I stayed on the line long enough — despite all the frustration — to make a connection with a person so full of goodness, joyfulness, and love.(不过,我很感激自己尽管满心沮丧,还是坚持留在电话线上,最终联系到了这样一位内心充满善良、喜悦与爱的人。)” B。 C Ning Zhongyan has been crowned Milano Cortina 2026 men’s 1500m speed skating champion, after setting a new Olympic record time of 1:41.98 on 19 February. The skater from China beat pre-race favourite Jordan Stolz, as the U. S. athlete finished with silver in 1:42.75. Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands won the bronze (1:42.82). The race saw four athletes go under the previous Olympic record, including the three podium finishers and Dutch skater Joep Wennemars. But Ning proved to be the fastest of them all, taking over a second off the Beijing 2022 Olympic record of 1:43.21 set by today’s bronze medallist Nuis. This was the third Olympic medal and first gold for China’s Ning, after he won bronze in the 1000m and team pursuit earlier in the Games. After his victory, he spoke to reporters, “After the Beijing Winter Olympics, the level in speed skating just kept getting higher and higher,” he said. “It felt like there was a mountain in front of me, and no matter what I did, I just could not get past it. I kept telling myself to trust that all the effort would add up one day. Today was that day. Even now, it still feels a little unreal that I was able to do this.” “Ning’s time was a surprise; he had the race of his life,” said Stolz. “It was difficult. I didn’t know much about placings until I crossed the finish line. But if anybody was going to win, I thought Ning would be the one to do it. I was happy for him.” Bronze medallist Nuis added a fourth Olympic medal to his collection, having won gold in the 1500m (PyeongChang 2018, Beijing 2022) and the 1000m (PyeongChang 2018). It was a fitting send-off for the Olympic legend, who announced yesterday that this will be his final Olympic race. “It’s the icing on the cake,” Nuis said of this medal. 8. What does the third paragraph imply? A. The race’s intensity. B. The event’s popularity. C. The skaters’ experience. D. The record’s importance. 9. What does the “mountain” symbolize in Ning’s statement? A. A minor setback. B. An external pressure. C. A temporary barrier. D. An unbeatable challenge. 10. Why does the text mention quotes from Stolz? A. To emphasize the historic nature of the race. B. To highlight Ning’s rising global recognition. C. To praise Ning’s strengths in an indirect way. D. To contrast different attitudes to competition. 11. What does Nuis view his bronze medal as? A. A very disappointing result. B. A necessary duty to his team. C. A satisfying close to his career. D. A well-earned reward for effort. A 9. D 10. C 11. 根据文章第三段“The race saw four athletes go under the previous Olympic record, including the three podium finishers and Dutch skater Joep Wennemars. 故选A。 根据文章第五段 “After the Beijing Winter Olympics, the level in speed skating just kept getting higher and higher, It felt like there was a mountain in front of me, and no matter what I did, I just could not get past it.(北京冬奥会之后,速度滑冰的水平越来越高。 根据文章第六段““Ning’s time was a surprise; he had the race of his life,” said Stolz. “It was difficult. I didn’t know much about placings until I crossed the finish line. But if anybody was going to win, I thought Ning would be the one to do it. I was happy for him.”(“宁的成绩令人惊讶,他滑出了职业生涯中最棒的一场比赛。” 根据文章第七段“It was a fitting send-off for the Olympic legend, who announced yesterday that this will be his final Olympic race.(这位奥运传奇昨日宣布这将是他最后一场奥运比赛,这枚奖牌是完美的告别。)” C。 D In today’s rapidly urbanizing world, cities are transforming into complex digital ecosystems, and the next big shift is already underway: collaborative sensing (CS). As urban population swells and underlying facilities come under pressure, the need for intelligent, responsive, and efficient city systems has never been more urgent. Enter smart cities — urban areas powered by connected technologies — and at the heart of this transformation lies a powerful concept that is quietly reshaping urban life: collaborative sensing. CS, sometimes referred to as participatory or crowdsensing, is the process where numerous devices and people contribute data to collectively monitor, analyze, and improve a city’s operations. From detecting air pollution to maximizing traffic flow or even predicting natural disasters, CS allows cities to gain a real-time, specific understanding of what’s happening on the ground. This isn’t just about sensors planted on street lights — it’s about smartphones, vehicles, wearables, and public facilities working integratedly. This interconnected approach holds massive potential. Imagine a city where holes are identified by the shaking of your car, where garbage pickup is improved based on bin fill levels, or where the urban heat island effect is reduced through collective temperature mapping. These are not future predictions — they’re real projects already unfolding in global tech-forward cities like Singapore, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. But this shift isn’t without its questions. Who owns the data? How do we balance monitoring and privacy? And can smaller or developing cities tap into this wave of innovation? Looking ahead, the question is no longer if cities will adopt CS — it’s how quickly and how responsibly. Whether you’ re a policymaker, urban planner, developer, or engaged citizen, now is the time to get involved in shaping the connected cities of tomorrow and dive deep into how CS is redefining the blueprint for smart cities. 12. What does the underlined word “swells” mean in paragraph 1? A. Expands. B. Appears. C. Removes. D. Stabilizes. 13. What can be inferred about CS in paragraphs 2-3? A. It relies mainly on public sensors. B. Daily devices can be used as its tools. C. Tech-forward cities gain more from it. D. Its projects are resisted in advanced cities. 14. Why does the writer raise questions in paragraph 4? A. To suggest that CS be delayed indefinitely. B. To prove that privacy outweighs innovation. C. To imply that CS is inaccessible to poor cities. D. To show that unresolved issues need attention. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. A Fresh Solution for Smarter Cities. B. Smart Cities in Wealthy Urban Areas. C. Smartphone-Driven City Management. D. Potential Risks in Urban Data Collection. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第一段“As urban population swells and underlying facilities come under pressure, the need for intelligent, responsive, and efficient city systems has never been more urgent.( 随着城市人口swells,基础设施面临压力,对智能、响应迅速且高效的城市系统的需求从未如此迫切)”可推知,swells与under pressure“承受压力”对应,指人口“增长、膨胀”。故选A。 根据第二段“This isn’t just about sensors planted on street lights — it’s about smartphones, vehicles, wearables, and public facilities working integratedly.(这不只是关于安装在路灯上的传感器——还包括智能手机、车辆、可穿戴设备和公共设施协同工作)”可推知,日常设备如智能手机等都可以作为CS的工具。 根据第四段“But this shift isn’t without its questions. Who owns the data? How do we balance monitoring and privacy? And can smaller or developing cities tap into this wave of innovation?(但这种转变并非没有问题。 故选A。 Essential Internet Safety Tips Our lives are deeply connected to the internet — for work, study, and communication. ____16____ Identity theft, malware (恶意软件) and phishing scams are increasingly common. Fortunately, most threats can be avoided wisely. Adopting a few key safety practices can significantly reduce them. ____17____ However, simple ones create serious security risks. A secure password should include at least 12 characters — mixing uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols — while avoiding personal information like birthdays. Using a password manager helps generate and store unique passwords, reducing the risk of multiple account breaches from a single leak. In addition, it is safer to close old accounts you no longer use. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) provides an essential additional safeguard. ____18____ This might be a one-time code sent to your phone, a fingerprint scan, or a security question. Even if a password is stolen, MFA greatly reduces unauthorized access. Make sure to turn on this feature for important accounts like email and online banking. Think before you click or share online. Always check the website legitimacy (合法性) before entering sensitive data — look for “https://” and a padlock icon. Avoid clicking links in unexpected emails or downloading files from unknown sources. ____19____ Online safety ultimately depends on habits, not just technology. ____20____ Keeping regular backups of important files on an external drive or cloud service can protect you if your device is locked by malware. By combining smart tools with responsible behavior, you can surf the digital waves with confidence rather than fear. A. Passwords are a basic but critical defense. B. Building good habits takes time and effort. C. What really matters is what we do consistently. D. This extra step confirms identity in several ways. E. Many people ignore the importance of safe passwords. F. Yet this convenience often coexists with potential risks. G. A careless action can lead to malware infection or data loss. F 17. A 18. D 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Our lives are deeply connected to the internet — for work, study, and communication. 指出网络与生活、工作密切相连,带来了便利;下文“Identity theft, malware and phishing scams are increasingly common. A secure password should include at least 12 characters — mixing uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols — while avoiding personal information like birthdays. A“Passwords are a basic but critical defense. 故选A。 【18题详解】 上文“Multi-factor authentication (MFA) provides an essential additional safeguard. 指出多重身份验证提供额外的安全保障;下文“This might be a one-time code sent to your phone, a fingerprint scan, or a security question. 举例说明几种验证方式;D选项“This extra step confirms identity in several ways.(这一额外步骤通过多种方式验证身份。)”承上启下,进一步说明多重身份验证,选项中的“This extra step”对应前文的“additional safeguard”,“several ways”对应后文的例子“one-time code sent to your phone, a fingerprint scan, or a security question”,衔接自然。故选D。 【19题详解】 上文“Always check the website legitimacy (合法性) before entering sensitive data — look for “https://” and a padlock icon. Avoid clicking links in unexpected emails or downloading files from unknown sources. 提醒要核实网站合法性,不要点击可疑链接、下载未知来源文件;G选项“A careless action can lead to malware infection or data loss.(一个不小心的操作可能导致恶意软件感染或数据丢失。)” 【20题详解】 上文“Online safety ultimately depends on habits, not just technology. 以及下文“Keeping regular backups of important files on an external drive or cloud service can protect you if your device is locked by malware. By combining smart tools with responsible behavior, you can surf the digital waves with confidence rather than fear. 可知,确保网络安全最终取决于养成好的习惯,而非只靠技术;C选项“What really matters is what we do consistently. Last year, having never supported a team before, I became a Buffalo Bills fan. We had spent most of our spare time preparing handmade gifts, among which the most precious was a big wooden wind chime (风铃). Every student had carved a warm message or a beautiful pattern on it, making it the special symbol of our kindness and unity. We all hoped it would help us collect more money for those in need. Mr. Brown, our club advisor, had guided us in making the wind chime. He often told me, “The true value of this gift lies not in its perfection, but in the love we put into it.” I was chosen to take charge of the wind chime because all my classmates believed I was careful and responsible. On the morning of the charity sale, I held it gently and walked slowly to the school playground, feeling extremely proud. The whole playground was lively, with students busy setting up colourful stands and cheerful laughter floating in the air. I dreamed of how successful our charity sale would be. Suddenly, a boy running in a hurry knocked into me by accident. I lost my balance at once, and the beloved wind chime fell onto the hard ground. The string broke completely, and the wooden pieces rolled everywhere. One small carved block was even lost in the grass. I froze in shock, with my hands shaking badly. My mind went blank. This was the fruit of our long-time hard work, and we had planned to auction (拍卖) it for the charity. I knelt down quickly to collect the pieces, with tears clouding my eyes. I felt deeply guilty, worrying that Mr. Brown and my classmates would be disappointed. The charity sale would start in just ten minutes, and every second counted. However hard I searched, I failed to find the missing block anywhere. Holding the broken parts tightly in my hands, I felt totally hopeless. Just as I was on the edge of crying, a soft shadow fell over me. 1. I looked up and saw Mr. Brown, his eyes full of understanding. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Following his advice, we fixed the wind chime in a special way. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I looked up and saw Mr. Brown, his eyes full of understanding. He knelt down gently beside me, patting my shoulder softly and saying, “Don’t blame yourself, kid. Accidents happen, but the love in this wind chime never breaks.” He pointed to the grass and smiled, “The missing block is just a small part, but our kindness and unity are still here. Let’s turn this imperfection into something special.” His words warmed my heart, calming my shaking hands. With his encouragement, I stopped crying and nodded firmly, determined to fix it with him. Following his advice, we fixed the wind chime in a special way. We tied the broken strings with colorful ribbons that some classmates brought, and used a small wooden star to replace the missing block — carving “Love Never Breaks” on it together. When we put it on the auction stand, all my classmates gathered around, cheering for us. To our surprise, many students and teachers came to bid for it. In the end, it was sold at a higher price than we expected. Looking at the wind chime swaying in the wind, I realized Mr. Brown was right: the true value of a gift lies in the love we put into it, not its perfection. 责备:blame/reproach ②.发生:happen/occur/take place ③.替代:replace/take the place of 情绪类 ①.颤抖的:shaking/trembling ②.惊讶:surprise/amazement 【点睛】[高分句型1]. B I had to run another phone marathon the other day. C Ning Zhongyan has been crowned Milano Cortina 2026 men’s 1500m speed skating champion, after setting a new Olympic record time of 1:41.98 on 19 February. D In today’s rapidly urbanizing world, cities are transforming into complex digital ecosystems, and the next big shift is already underway: collaborative sensing (CS). 12. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
