Last summer, I did an internship at a computer company. At first, I thought I only needed to know how to write computer programs—my high school had taught me some basics. But soon, I found out that work needs more than just programming skills.
On the first day, my manager, Ms. Lopez, put me in a team. We had to make a website for a small cake shop. The team members were older than me. When we had our first meeting, I was too nervous to speak. I was afraid my ideas were not good. Ms. Lopez noticed and said, “Here, talking to others is as important as your programming skills. Don’t be afraid to say what you think.”
After that, I tried to speak more. Before meetings, I wrote down small notes. Once, I drew a simple picture on the whiteboard. I showed how changing the cake shop’s menu pictures on the website could make it easier for people to use. My teammates liked it and said, “Good idea!” They took my suggestion, and I was happy.
Later, the biggest problem came: the cake shop owner wanted the website to be ready a week earlier and to add a “buy online” button. We had to work late. At first, I felt worried, but my teammates taught me to break the work into small parts. I worked on the “buy” button, and others worked on the payment part. We finished on time together.
When the internship ended, Ms. Lopez wrote in my review, “Emily used to be quiet, but now she shares ideas well with others.” This experience taught me that: to do well in any job, you need both “hard skills” (like writing programs) and “soft skills” (like talking and working as a team).

36.The team dealt with the biggest problem ________.
A.by using new programs
B.by cooperating with each other
C.by asking help from other companies
D.by inviting the shop owner to join them
37.What did Emily learn from the internship?
A.Making a website is quite easy.
B.Public speaking is useful for interns.
C.Programming skills are necessary for office workers.
D.Both “soft skills” and “hard skills” are equally important.

Beijing began to carry out garbage sorting on May 1st, 2020. Now the city’s residents need to sort their household garbage before throwing it into the dustbin.
Dealing with household garbage has long been an issue for big cities like Beijing. The experience of other countries shows waste sorting is an efficient way to reduce the amount of waste. In some developed countries, there are strict laws that require people to sort their waste into kitchen waste, recyclable waste, and so on. Data shows that sorting can help to cut the amount of waste by 30 to 50 percent.
However, many people have not formed the habit of sorting their waste yet. Moreover, some people complain that they saw the sorted waste being mixed together by the waste collectors.
Another reason why people are slow to take action is that some cities sort garbage into six kinds, which can be too complicated for some people.
The new method used by Beijing this time is to divide the household garbage into four types, which are recyclables, kitchen waste, hazardous waste and other waste. To most residents, the most important job is to separate their kitchen waste from the rest.
After being sorted, much garbage can be made useful. Recyclables will be classified again and reused by recycling companies. Kitchen waste will be treated by using biochemical (生物化学) methods to produce biogas (沼气). Other waste will be delivered to a waste-to-energy plant that burns waste to produce electricity.

As China expands its visa-free policies, an increasing number of foreign tourists and travel bloggers are seizing the opportunity to explore the country’s different landscapes and cultures, sharing their fresh views with global audiences through social media. This trend is reshaping how the world sees China.
American YouTuber IShowSpeed recently traveled across several Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Shenzhen, livestreaming his experiences to millions of viewers. Despite language barriers, his energetic broadcasts — featuring everything from busy streets to local delicacies — caused strong reactions. Many viewers commented that his unfiltered reports changed their earlier wrong ideas about China, with some even planning their own trips after watching his videos.

French photographer Nicolas Cornet, who has visited Mount Huangshan eight times, appreciates how the visa-free policy has simplified his travels. His beautiful photographs of the UNESCO site have even been exhibited internationally, inspiring others to visit.
These real sharing are building bridges of understanding. “This is how ordinary people are building connections with honesty and curiosity.” said Zhang Yuan, an editor-in-chief of Xiaohongshu, at the 2025China Internet Civilization Conference in Hefei, capital of Anhui Province. Zhou Qing’an, dean of Tsinghua University’s School of Journalism and Communication, shared a similar view, “Online exchanges open a door not only for the world to learn about China, but also for China to speak to the world.”

Wang Hong, a brilliant Chinese mathematician born in Guilin in 1991, has recently captured global attention with her extraordinary achievements in the field of mathematics. Her amazing journey began at Peking University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in 2011, building a strong base for her future success.
After graduating from Peking University, she continued her education abroad, first earning an engineering degree from École Polytechnique and a master’s degree from Paris-Saclay University in France, then gaining her PhD from MIT in 2019 under the guidance of famous mathematician Larry Guth. Her academic path continued with postdoctoral research at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, eventually leading to her current position as a professor at New York University.
The young mathematician’s most significant breakthrough came in February 2025, when she and her partner successfully proved the century-old Kakeya Conjecture (挂谷猜想).
34.Who was Ms. Lopez?
A.She was Emily’s manager.
B.She was the owner of the cake shop.
C.She was Emily’s high school teacher.
D.She was the owner of the computer company.
35.How did Emily feel at the first meeting?
A.Excited. B.Bored. C.Nervous. D.Happy.

38.What did Beijing begin to carry out on May 1st, 2020?
A.Garbage recycling. B.Very strict recycling law.
C.Garbage sorting. D.Environmental protection.
39.________ has long been an issue for big cities.
A.How to deal with household waste B.Keeping the city clean
C.How to recycle waste D.Asking people to protect the environment

A.recyclables, kitchen waste, plastics and other waste
B.recyclables, kitchen waste, metals and other waste
C.recyclables, kitchen waste, hazardous waste and other waste
D.recyclables, dry waste, wet waste and other waste
41.Data shows waste sorting may help to cut the amount of waste by ________.
A.1% B.10% C.40% D.100%
