If space tourism becomes a reality, would you like to be a space tourist? Here, some middle school students around the world share their ideas.
Jean, the UK
I love space and would like to be the first teenager to live in space. Maybe I’ll be an astronaut later and discover a new planet. I think we should have courage to challenge ourselves.
Emily, the US
The space trip can be dangerous. What if I get lost? I’m also afraid of heights. And it must be very scary when you look down at the Earth from a spaceship.
Edward, Spain
It is cool, but I may miss my family. Also, I need a large amount of training to become a space tourist, and I don’t have time for that. Besides, I don’t think I can afford a trip to space.
Frank, South Africa
I’d love to. We’ve studied the solar system (太阳系) in science classes this term. I think space is amazing and it can be a great experience to see things I’ve never seen on the Earth.
Anna, Germany
I don’t want to be a space tourist. I respect (尊重) those who love space tourism. But for me, I want to pay more attention to what I have on this planet—my family, my school and my pet.

A. To challenge himself. B. To take lessons in space. C. To see something new.

Imagine one day, the water taps in your house stop running. You have to buy water from shops. And still there isn’t enough water for everyone. Your mother has to save the family’s shower water to do other things. Would you be able to stand that kind of life?
Probably not. But that’s what kids in Yemen are experiencing. Experts say Yemen is going to be the first country in the world to run out of water. According to a report, the capital, Sana’a, will run out of drinking water as early as in 2025.
Because of the shortage the government often cuts the water supply (供应). Hannan, an 18-year-old girl from Lahej, told Times: “In a good week, we’ll have a water supply all week. But then the following week there will be water only for a day or two.”
Hannan says only rich people have enough water to use. They can buy water from the shops or from the water trucks. Private companies own the trucks. They travel around the city every day to sell water—at very high prices. “A lot of people can’t afford it.” she said.
The average person in Yemen uses 100 to 200 cubic meters of water per year. That is far below the international water poverty line of 1,000 cubic meters.
The government is thinking of making use of seawater. But it will cost a lot and it may not happen soon enough to help the people of Yemen.
3. ________ is the name of the capital city of Yemen.
A. Sana’a B. Lahej C. Hannan

第二段提到:“According to a report, the capital, Sana’a, will run out of drinking water as early as in 2025.”,这直接说明一份报告显示,萨那最早2025年将没有饮用水可用。
第三段提到:“Because of the shortage, the government often cuts the water supply (供应)”,结合前文提到也门将面临没有水的情况,以及政府经常切断供水,可推断出这里说的是因为水资源“短缺”,所以“shortage”意思是“短缺”。
第四段提到:“Private companies own the trucks. They travel around the city every day to sell water—at very high prices.”,这直接说明私人公司拥有卡车,每天在城市里以很高的价格卖水,由此可推断出私人公司赚了很多钱。

Is it important to write thank-you notes to people? Would you like to write them? In daily life, how many of you often do that?
Experts Amit Kumar and Nicholas Epley did a study on thank-you notes. They wanted to see why people hesitate to send thank-you notes and how people feel when receiving the notes.
They asked some students to write a letter of thanks to another person. Then they asked both the writer and the recipient (接受者) about that letter and how it made them feel.
They found that writing the letter was a good experience for the writers. It improved their mood (心情) right away. But the writers didn’t know how the recipients would feel and how much it would improve their mood. Instead, the writers thought it might be a little embarrassing for someone to get a letter of thanks. But that wasn’t the case.
The letter writers worried about what to say and how to say it. However, the recipients didn’t care much about whether the writers used the right words or not. “Those who got letters felt really good,” Kumar said. They didn’t really feel embarrassed at all. What they cared about was the warmth they felt and how friendly the writers were.
Thankfulness makes people feel good. “Even so, people don’t seem to give thanks to others often enough. ________ If they knew, they would do it more often,” Kumar said.
In Kumar’s opinion, this study is a good reminder. We feel good when we do nice things for others.
7. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story.
B. By asking some questions.
C. By giving some examples.
8. What does the underlined word “hesitate” in Paragraph2 probably mean?
A. Be happy to do something.
B. Wait or think twice.
C. Can’t wait to do something.
9. What do we know about the study from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3?
①Who made it. ②How it was made. ③When it was made. ④Why it was made.
A. ①②④ B. ①②③ C. ①③④
10. Which of the following can be put into “________”?
A. Thank-you note recipients shouldn’t share how they feel.
B. Thank-you notes may make the recipients feel embarrassed.
C. People don’t always realize that thank-you notes make others feel good.
B 8. B 9. A 10. C

第二段“They wanted to see why people hesitate to send thank-you notes and how people feel when receiving the notes.”

They wanted to see why people hesitate to send thank-you notes and how people feel when receiving the notes.”提到了谁做了这项研究(Experts Amit Kumar and Nicholas Epley)以及为什么要做这项研究(They wanted to see...);第三段“They asked some students to write a letter of thanks to another person. Then they asked both the writer and the recipient (接受者) about that letter and how it made them feel.”
第五段“Thankfulness makes people feel good. ‘Even so, people don’t seem to give thanks to others often enough.’”以及“If they knew, they would do it more often”表达的是人们没有意识到感谢信能让别人感觉良好,如果知道的话就会更经常写感谢信。

根据后文“the only human being”可知,作者是独自在路上的。
根据“I braked to a stop”可知,作者刹车停了下来,说明信号灯变成了红色。
根据后文“I was not afraid of being caught”以及作者停车等待红灯的行为可知,作者在想自己为什么拒绝闯红灯。
根据后文“And as no one would ever have known what a good person I was on the road from Harrisburg to Lewisburg, I had to tell someone.”
Years ago, life was hard for my family. I had to take several jobs ____26____ (support) a family of five. Money was always tight, but at Christmas I ____27____ (manage) to take my kids to the downtown area to spend the holiday. We enjoyed the Christmas lights and had a special dinner.
However, the biggest ____28____ (excite) for the kids was the fun of Christmas shopping. I gave each of them ten dollars to buy ____29____ (gift) for themselves. Then I sat in a cafe, waiting for them and enjoying a short break.
When they came back, they were all excited ____30____ Ginger, my younger daughter. I noticed that she had ____31____ empty bag and looked disappointed. “Why didn’t you buy anything, Ginger?” I asked. “I suppose her money might ____32____ (steal) by some bad guy.” She explained slowly, “I saw a ‘Giving-Tree’ with many lovely cards. Out of curiosity, I stopped and read one of ____33____ (they). It was for a four-year-old sick girl. All that she wanted for Christmas was a doll. So I took the card off the tree and bought a doll for her.”
“How sweet you are! I’m so proud of you, Ginger,” I said. ____34____ we were living a hard life, my children still learned to care about others. That was ____35____ (probable) the most meaningful gift I wanted for my children.
26. to support
27. managed
28. excitement
29. gifts 30. except
31. an 32. have been stolen
33. them 34. Although##Though
35. probably
“each of them ten dollars”表明是给每个孩子钱让他们买礼物,意味着不止一个礼物,“gift”是可数名词,其复数形式是“gifts”,所以此处填“gifts”。
又因为句子表达的是对过去事情的猜测,在英语中常用“might have been done”的结构来表示对过去事情的可能性推测,所以“steal”要用被动形式“have been stolen”,此处填“have been stolen”。
“read one of...”
“we were living a hard life”和“my children still learned to care about others”之间是转折关系,在英语中常用“although”或“though”引导让步状语从句,表示“虽然”,句首首字母要大写,所以此处填“Although”或“Though”。
“the most meaningful gift”是名词短语,前面要用副词来修饰,“probable”的副词形式是“probably”,表示“可能地”,所以此处填“probably”。

At the 2025 Spring Festival Gala, the “Yang-BOT” performance amazed everyone. People were surprised to see robots dancing so well. However, in 2026, the new show “Wu-BOT” took technology to a whole new level. It was not just a dance; it was a breathtaking martial arts (Kung Fu) show.
In “Wu-BOT,” robots performed with students from a famous martial arts school. These robots did things that even many humans find difficult. For example, they performed single-leg backflips and jumped nearly three meters high into the air. They even used “dexterous hands” to wave wooden staffs (棍) just like real Kung Fu masters.
How did they become so “smart”? Wang Xingxing, the founder of Unitree Robotics, shared the secret. He said these robots practiced over 100 million times in a computer simulation (模拟) before they stepped onto the real stage. This is called “Reinforcement Learning.” It helps robots find the best way to keep their balance and complete difficult moves.
“Wu-BOT” is more than just a show. It shows that Chinese robots are becoming faster, stronger, and more flexible. In the future, this technology could help robots work in factories or even help people at home.
From “Yang-BOT” to “Wu-BOT,” we can see that the dream of “man and machine working together” is coming true. The future of technology is truly exciting.

Imagine one day, the water taps in your house stop running. You have to buy water from shops. And still there isn’t enough water for everyone. Your mother has to save the family’s shower water to do other things. Would you be able to stand that kind of life?
Probably not. But that’s what kids in Yemen are experiencing. Experts say Yemen is going to be the first country in the world to run out of water. According to a report, the capital, Sana’a, will run out of drinking water as early as in 2025.
Because of the shortage, the government often cuts the water supply (供应).

In “Wu-BOT” robots performed with students from a famous martial arts school.
