It began at home with my mother. As a first-generation economically disadvantaged Mexican-American, knowledge was a tool for life and curiosity was my guide. Before public school and textbooks, my mother was my first teacher. She reminded us that Spanish wasn’t just a language. It was a gift. Learning to write and speak it meant connecting to our roots and understanding the beautiful blend of languages and cultures around the world. My early relationship with environmentalism was formed through small moments. I didn’t grow up going on nature hikes or camping trips. I grew up falling in love with the Discovery Channel and Nat Geo, studying animals and ecosystems I had never touched. I saw biologists, conservationists, and environmental storytellers on screen. I admired them. I quietly dreamed of doing what they did. But a part of me believed I could never do that. I wasn’t smart enough. I believed that kids like me growing up in poverty weren’t meant to be on screen, let alone in science. Years later, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Environmental Science. But I didn’t stop there. I wanted to create something of my own. I built Queer BrownVegan, a digital home connecting environmental education, storytelling, and cultural memory. What started as one page became a community—a space where people who looked like me, felt like me, and dreamed like me could learn, grow, and express environmentalism in their own voice. Eventually, that dream I had as a kid came back. But I knew I couldn’t wait for someone to discover me. So I made my own show. I launched a digital web series called Teaching Climate Together—a DIY project with a vision bigger than the cost, driven by storytelling, passion, and a camera that never stopped recording. 24. What did Isaias’s mother tell him to do? A. To stay curious always. B. To use knowledge as a tool for life. C. To pass on cultural traditions. D. To understand the world through language. 25. How did Isaias’s early link with environmentalism start? A. By joining nature hikes. B. By watching TV shows. C. By admiring on-screen scientists. D. By dreaming of a science career. 26. What can be inferred from Queer Brown Vegan? A. It moved from online to offline. B. It mainly aimed at environmental education. C. It was created before his graduation. D. It gained public attention. 27. Which words can best describe Isaias? A. Determined and creative. B. Thoughtful and talkative. C. Intelligent and patient. D. Outgoing and modest. C The value of the dictionary depends upon your purpose. If the idea is to teach word meanings or to help students understand, then provide the meanings directly. The whole process of looking up words and choosing among meanings increases “cognitive load (认知负荷)”. That is, the dictionary tasks pull attention from learning the word meanings. It wastes precious class time, too. Therefore, many textbooks include meanings of key vocabulary. Technology also allows students to click on a word to find its meanings. In this way, publishers provide access to meanings without requiring students to struggle with dictionaries. That said, there is more to it than that. Students should be learning to turn to the dictionary during reading when they encounter difficulties, and it is rewarding to help them overcome this cognitive load challenge. All students can gain from dictionaries, but the benefits of dictionary use are most obvious for English learners because of their limited knowledge of English vocabulary. However, dictionary instruction can be pretty bad, with a lot of focus on looking up words and little energy devoted to making sense of meanings or choosing the relevant ones. Technology has relieved the “looking up” pressure but the rest of it is still an issue. Kids simply don’t know how to make sense of what they find in dictionaries—the benefits of gaining information from each of the various definitions, and the need to look up additional words to make sense of a meaning. For instance, if you look up “joy”, you will quickly encounter the word “emotion”, which is a harder word than the one you were trying to figure out. Dictionary instruction can provide a great opportunity to explore the grammatical relations among words, too. Such dictionary lessons will not directly increase vocabulary, but they will provide students with the proficiency(熟练) that they need to solve unknown words during reading, which is valuable. 28. Why do textbooks add key word explanations? A. To prevent student distraction. B. To speed up the learning process. C. To build a vocabulary system. D. To remove unnecessary tasks. 29. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about technology? A. It simplifies word lookup. B. It makes dictionary skills unnecessary. C. It shouldn’t replace dictionary use. D. It reduces learning challenges. 30. What is the problem with dictionary instruction? A. It stops at turning pages. B. It consumes much time. C. It focuses on new words. D. It assumes prior word knowledge. 31. Which would be the best title for the text? A. Dictionaries: A Tool for Every Student B. Moving Beyond Just Looking Up Words C. The Hidden Challenges in Dictionary Use D. Technology’s Role in Language Learning D In an age where new fitness approaches appear almost daily, one movement is drawing people’s attention: walking backward. This unusual method is gaining popularity online and in the health circles. Fitness professionals share their backward movement on Instagram and TikTok, building a community of fitness lovers who have confidence in its benefits. But does this approach have staying power? The advantages are more than just surface. Research shows backward walking activates overlooked (被忽视的) muscles, improving muscle balance and joint stability. For those with knee pain, it offers a low-impact choice that still strengthens legs and improves staying power, as the backward movement reduces joint pain while keeping workout intensity (强度). It also keeps balance and coordination (协调) by forcing the brain to adapt to new movement patterns, sharpening cognitive function, focus, and spatial awareness—turning a simple walk into a full-body and mind workout. Cardiovascular benefits shouldn’t be overlooked, either. This effort can improve your heart rate just as effectively as forward walking, making it just right for busy schedules. Surprisingly, walking backward isn’t new: historical records show that it dates back to East Asian cultural ceremonies centuries ago, valued for benefits from physical fitness to mental sharpness. These traditions long recognized their power to balance body and mind, making today’s fitness approach a reappearance of ancient wisdom. Fitting it into daily life is simple. Beginners should start on flat, safe surfaces—like a quiet park path—to master the movement without the risk of falling over. Focus on short periods of time and gradually increase the time as confidence grows. Many lovers fit backward walking into regular routines, changing between forward and backward movements to keep workouts dynamic (动态的). More than a TikTok fashion, walking backward unites modern science with time-tested practice. It’sa workout that challenges the body, sharpens the mind, and connects us to age-old wellness traditions. With its proven benefits and easy integration, this fashion isn’t just a passing one—it truly has legs. 32. Why is walking backward gaining popularity recently? A. It is promoted by fitness experts online. B. It helps people lose weight quickly. C. It attracts a community of fitness lovers. D. It is highly praised by joint pain patients. 33. What is one benefit of backward walking mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. It cures patients of serious knee injuries. B. It reduces the intensity of regular workouts. C. It uses more energy than other workout routines. D. It improves physical balance and brain function. 34. What is the author’s main purpose of mentioning “East Asian cultural ceremonies” in Paragraph 3? A. To show backward walking has a long history. B. To prove East Asians are good at fitness. C. To explain why backward walking is popular online. D. To compare ancient and modern fitness methods. 35. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Backward walking is a new fitness trend online. B. Backward walking is the key to effective workouts. C. Backward walking is a useful fitness method with a long history. D. How to practice backward walking safely as a beginner. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The belief in talking to plants has existed for centuries. Ancient civilizations, such as the Greeks and local cultures, believed plants responded to energy, emotion, and sound. In the 1840s, German professor Gustav Fechner suggested plants might have feelings. 36 Technically, plants don’t have ears or a nervous system, so they don’t “hear” in the traditional sense. However, studies have shown plants can detect vibrations (振动) in their environment—including sound waves produced by human speech or music. 37 For instance, South Korean researchers found certain plant genes (基因) responded positively to classical music and human voice frequencies. Some studies suggest that plants respond more favorably to female voices than male voices due to differences in pitch (音高) and frequency. Music types like classical or jazz have shown positive results, while loud rock music may stress plants. Ultimately, regularity and loudness may influence the result. 38 39 However, there are enough facts to suggest that plants are sensitive to their environments—including sound. Whether it’s the vibration from your voice or the regular care that comes from daily contact, your plants just might benefit. Talking to plants may not be magic, but it does encourage a deeper connection with nature, mindful gardening, and perhaps even a little extra vibrational help. 40 Either way, your plant may thank you in its own green way. So go ahead—speak softly some words of encouragement to your favorite leafy green plant. A. Genes play an important role in plants’ growth. B. Nobody has observed plants react to external factors. C. You might rely on science or just care for plants well. D. We haven’t proven talking to plants directly speeds growth. E. They can detect and respond to sounds like speech or music. F. Gentle and calm sounds seem to create vibrations that are more beneficial for plants. G. That laid the basis for the idea of a psychological connection between humans and nature. 第三部分语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 I'm interested in a career in __41__,so I decided to volunteer for service at the local hospital. At 16, however, life took a big turn. His parents found new jobs in Ohio, forcing the whole family to move there. This wasn’t an easy choice—it was tough to leave behind every familiar thing he cared about. Along with the move, a new school was waiting for Kenneth. Every time he thought about saying goodbye to his old school, a sense of sadness came over him. The changes ahead—like the new city, the new school, and the strangers he’d soon meet—filled him with fear. He had no idea if he’d be able to fit in, or if loneliness would find him once he got there. Following a long cross-country journey, the family finally arrived in Ohio and settled down. When the day came for him to start at his new school, Kenneth’s mind swarmed with worries. What if the other students were unfriendly—even cold? And what if he couldn’t make a single friend there? The next morning, Kenneth was driven to school by his parents. The car stopped at the big brick building, and his heart beat fast. He hugged his mom and dad, took a deep breath, and got out. He anxiously walked toward the school gate with every step. It felt like he was stepping into a new world. A friendly school secretary went to greet Kenneth when he entered. Noticing how nervous and shy he looked, she decided to start by showing him around the school yard. She led him past a modern computer lab, a science lab, and a gym with a basketball court—there, Kenneth imagined trying out for the school team. His mood lifted a little. Kenneth began to think the school was nice, and he started feeling a little better. Finally, they arrived at the teaching building and walked toward Kenneth’s new classroom, and Kenneth’s heart started to race again. The school secretary took him to the door with an encouraging smile. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 With a deep breath, Kenneth entered the classroom.________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________. If this problem isn't solved immediately, you will lose more friends and get worse grades. Here is my advice for you. First, use the computer mainly for your study and search for useful information. Besides, spend more time with your family and friends. More importantly, take part in as many outdoor activities as you can. I sincerely hope that you will get over the problem and feel better soon. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 With a deep breath, Kenneth entered the classroom. He noticed every pair of eyes turned to him—for a second, the room fell quiet, and he could feel his cheeks growing warm. He tried to calm down, knowing he needed to introduce himself. Even though his voice trembled, he struggled through a short explanation ofwho he was. When his introduction ended, the class burst into warm claps and cheers. Their happiness at his arrival was both a surprise and a relief for Kenneth. He became a bit less nervous, and started to think he might actually make friends here. As the days went by, Kenneth realized his earlier worries were unnecessary. The classes were interesting, and the teachers were always ready to help. During breaks, kind classmates crowded around him—they talked about what they loved, and had fun together. After school, some students asked him to play basketball in the school gym. Kenneth saw that change wasn’t always bad. It was scary at first, but it had brought him new experiences and friendships. He also learned something else: he was stronger than he thought, and he could get used to new situations. 12 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
