Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë This was the first “proper” book I read as a child. At the age of eight, I was attracted by the story of Jane’s childhood and the cruelty and deprivation Jane suffers. Later, as a teenager, I came to understand the more adult themes of love, betrayal and honesty. I have read it every decade of my life since. The Complete Poems of John Keats As a great fan of Keats’s poetry, I find his work captures what it is to be young, with its passionate and longing language. The Odes — to Autumn, to a Nightingale, and on a Grecian Urn — stand out as particularly fine examples of his genius. Middlemarch by George Eliot I was struck by the depth and complexity of this masterpiece by George Eliot. The novel creates an entire world in a small English provincial town, addressing issues of status, pretensions (虚荣), social class and women's roles in society. I admire Eliot’s remarkable insight into human nature and her ability to balance serious themes with sparkling moments of comedy . The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri Pulling me out of the 19th century, this clever and moving novel feels very close to my heart. It’s about the complexities of migration, and how the Indian parents in the novel relate to their American-born son. It’s hard to believe this was Jhumpa Lahiri’s first novel; it feels so confident . 1. Which book involves Indian - American family themes ? A. Jane Eyre. B. The Namesake. C. Middlemarch. D. The Complete Poems of John Keats. 2. What likely attracts the critic to Keats’s poetry ? A. Complex philosophical themes. B. Political overtones. C. Strict classical structure. D. Passionate expression. 3. Which issue is discussed in Middlemarch ? A. Technological innovation. B. Fantastic adventure. C. Social class. D. Rural life. B When Grandma welcomed us, she was dressed in bright colours and wore jewellery I never knew she had. She seemed to be in a good mood, but because of her deafness, communication was still difficult. I smiled at her, and she replied. She could read our lips to know what we were saying. It had been half a year since my last visit. She must have thought that as an overseas student, I don’t get to eat much good food anymore. So, with her wrinkled hands, she passed me some homemade pastries. Her hands tested the temperature of my cup again and again, and every time it showed a slight sign of cooling down, Grandma poured in more hot water. She also never allowed me to stop eating. As soon as I finished what was on my plate, she gave me something new to try. Finally, when my stomach couldn’t take any more, she stopped and held my hands as she sat beside me. When it was the time to leave, she walked downstairs with us to see us off. The sun shone on the white pearls around her neck, on her silver hair and on the buttons on her clothes. It was a long time since I’d watched her so closely. She was smiling, and her wrinkles sat happily on her soft skin. People usually compare wrinkles around a person’s eyes to a dry tree trunk. But to me, my grandma’s wrinkles are among the loveliest things I’ve ever set eyes upon. There used to be a time when I disliked old age and kept my distance from elderly people, but that was due to my ignorance. Now that I understand that there’s beauty in everything, my grandma’s wrinkles are just like a thousand stories being told all at once. 4. How did Grandma communicate with the author ? A. By hearing what the author said. B. By smiling at the author . C. By reading the author’s lips. D. By offering homemade pastries . 5. From Grandma’s actions, we can infer that________. A. the author doesn’t have a chance to eat homemade food overseas B. Grandma taught the author how to cook homemade pastries C. the author was very thirsty at Grandma’s home D. Grandma loves the author so much 6. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage ? A. Grandma’s wrinkles look beautiful with her silver hair. B. The author considers her grandma’s wrinkles to be the loveliest things. C. Grandma’s wrinkles are like a dry tree trunk. D. The author used to like the wrinkles of elderly people. 7. What could be the best title for the passage ? A. The Beauty of Grandma’s Wrinkles B. The Happiness from Grandma’s Home C. Be Nice to the Elderly D. Be Honest to Your Family C Heroes of computer games and comic books have for years conquered the bad guys with the “POW!” and “ZAP!” of overwhelming technological power, leaving the enemy dishevelled (凌乱的) and helpless , but alive=-----------------------------------------------------------------------. Science may soon allow modern armies to do the same. New non-lethal (非致命的) weapons — lasers, glue guns, stun guns and electronic jamming (电子干扰) — could help forces fight with fewer deaths and better public image. Supporters of these so-called “non-lethal weapons” claim that they will strongly cut down on battlefield casualties. But many experts fear that devices could actually induce more violence. “Our statistics show that in a conventional battle, 60 percent of the casualties will make a full recovery, 25 to 30 percent will die, and between 10 and 15 per cent will have some kind of disability but will live,” said a senior legal adviser to the International Committee of the Red Cross. “Using so-called ‘non-lethal weapons’ like lasers, will leave the vast majority of casualties blinded for life. If someone develops a weapon that will give severe permanent disablement, we don’t think that’s really an advance.” the adviser added. Modern armies are apparently close to deploying a wide range of high technological weapons aimed at destroying an enemy’s ability to fight. “Security classification makes it difficult to be very specific about the technologies. We know that all of the US armed services are working on weapons projects that could be described under the heading non-lethal technologies and that at least some of these projects have parallels in other nations,” said a professor in a recent report. Soldiers offering resistance would be sprayed with glue, enveloping them with rope-like gunge. Or they would be flattened, not by bullets, but by bean-bag firing guns which would disable them temporarily. “The development of weapons that stun and don’t kill is entirely dependent on the current belief that human life is important,” said a professor of strategic studies in the department of war studies at King’s College London. 8. Which of the following is outside “non-lethal weapons”? A. Electronic jamming. B. Glue guns. C. Lasers. D. Machine guns. 9. Why do some experts disapprove of “non-lethal weapons”? A. They will strongly cut down on battlefield casualties. B. They could actually cause more permanent injuries. C. Some developed countries would wrongly use them. D. They will disable the soldiers temporarily. 10. What does the underlined word “flattened” in paragraph 8 probably mean? A. Defeated. B. Killed. C. Attracted. D. Seized. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards “non-lethal weapons”? A. Neutral. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Disapproving. D Plants cannot run or hide, so they need other strategies to avoid being eaten. Some curl up their leaves, others produce chemicals to make themselves taste bad if they sense animals drooling on them, chewing them up or laying eggs on them — all signals of an attack. New research now shows some flora can feel a plant-eating animal well before it launches an attack, letting a plant prepare a preemptive (先发制人的) defense that even works against other pest species. When ecologist John Orrock of the University of Wisconsin-Madison sprayed snail slime — a liquid the animals release as they slide along — onto soil, nearby tomato plants appeared to notice. They increased their levels of an enzyme (酶), which is known to prevent plant-eating animals. “None of the plants were ever actually attacked,” Orrock says. “We just gave them cues that suggested an attack was coming, and that was enough to cause big changes in their chemistry.” Initially Orrock found this defense worked against snails; in the latest study, his team measured the slimy warning’s impact on another potential threat. The investigators found that hungry caterpillars (毛虫), which usually eat tomato leaves greedily, had no appetite for them after the plants were exposed to snail slime and activated their chemical resistance. This nonspecific defense may be a strategy that benefits the plants by further improving their overall possibilities of survival, says Orrock, who reported the results with his colleagues in March in Oecologia. The finding that a snail’s approach can cause a plant response that affects a different animal made Richard Karban curious, a plant communications expert, who was not involved in the study. “It is significant that the plants are responding before being damaged and that these cues are having such far-ranging effects,” Karban says. The research was comprehensive, he adds, but he wonders how the tomato plants felt chemicals in snail slime that never actually touched them. “That’s the million-dollar question” Orrock says. He hopes future research will make out the mechanisms that enable plants to sense these relatively distant cues. 12. Why did John Orrock spray a liquid onto soil near tomato plants? A. Because it gives them a warning. B. Because it makes them grow better. C. Because it keeps plant-eating animals away. D. Because it informs plant-eating animals of danger. 13. Why is the example of “caterpillars” mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. To introduce another animal. B. To confirm the result of the study. C. To appeal to people to protect animals. D. To analyze different resistance chemicals. 14. What does Richard Karban really want to know? A. What the finding of the research is. B. What the chemicals in the snail slime are. C. Whether the research is of practical value. D. How tomato plants become aware of danger. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Watchful Plants B. Greedy Animals C. A Snail’s Approach D. A Defense Attack It was Bi Sheng who invented moveable type printing in Ancient China. A few months ago, my mom got remarried, making Drew my stepbrother. She hoped we’d get along. But he was like a headache I couldn’t get rid of. Mom thought inviting Kendall, my best friend, for a sleepover would take my mind off Drew. So far, that wasn’t working. Later in my room, Kendall and I were doing our nails when Drew came in, with a bowl of popcorn in his hands. “Does anyone want popcorn?” asked Drew. “Mom doesn’t like food in here, and you got into my room without asking!” I said angrily. “Time to leave, Drew,” I pointed to the door. I decided an ice cream would cool me down. In the kitchen, Kendall and I had hardly started eating when I heard Drew hurrying down the stairs. “Hey, who wants to have a pillow fight?” he asked. “I do!“ cried Kendall sticking her ice cream in the freezer. She and Drew ran upstairs, leaving me alone with my bad attitude. I wasn’t about to follow them like a puppy. There was something I had to do. I took the cream and slipped into Drew’s room. I found his slippers, and stuck the cream inside them. Satisfied, I grabbed a pillow, ready to fight him. I ran into my room and hit Drew with the pillow. He countered with a blow to my legs. Kendall threw her pillow into his side. Before long, we were all laughing. I lifted my pillow over my head to give Drew a final blow. But I missed. It crashed into the popcorn bowl left on the dresser. The corns rained everywhere just as mom walked into the room.“Stop! You kids are being too wild,” she cried. “And, Sarah, you know I don’t like food in here.” 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为120左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Paragraph 1: I froze, not knowing what to say. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I cornered Drew to tell me why he took the fall (承担责任). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 哈师大青冈实验中学2025—2026学年度开学初考试 高二英语试题 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1. 5分,满分7. 5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话读两遍。 例:How much is the shirt? 7. She also never allowed me to stop eating. As soon as I finished what was on my plate, she gave me something new to try. Finally, when my stomach couldn’t take any more, she stopped and held my hands as she sat beside me.(她的双手不停地反复测试着我杯子的温度,每次杯子都有微微降温的迹象时,奶奶就会再往里面倒些热水。她从不让我停下来不吃。只要我吃完盘子里的食物,她就会给我换些新的食物让我尝试。最后,当我的胃再也承受不了时,她停了下来,坐在我的身旁,握着我的手)”可知,奶奶非常爱作者。故选D。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“But to me, my grandma’s wrinkles are among the loveliest things I’ve ever set eyes upon.(但对我来说,我祖母脸上的皱纹却是我见过的最美丽的景象之一)”可知,B选项“作者认为奶奶脸上的皱纹是最可爱的部分”正确。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“There used to be a time when I disliked old age and kept my distance from elderly people, but that was due to my ignorance. Now that I understand that there’s beauty in everything, my grandma’s wrinkles are just like a thousand stories being told all at once.(曾经有段时间,我讨厌衰老,对老年人也敬而远之,那是因为我当时无知。如今我明白了万物皆有其美,我奶奶脸上的皱纹就像是一千个故事同时在诉说一般)”结合文章讲述了作者看望失聪的奶奶,奶奶细心照料、十分疼爱。作者从前反感衰老,如今明白奶奶的皱纹藏着岁月与爱意,是最美的风景。可知,A选项“奶奶脸上的皱纹之美”最符合文章标题。故选A。 C Heroes of computer games and comic books have for years conquered the bad guys with the “POW!” and “ZAP!” of overwhelming technological power, leaving the enemy dishevelled (凌乱的) and helpless , but alive=-----------------------------------------------------------------------. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。新型非致命性武器能够帮助军队减少人员伤亡,并提升其公众形象,但人们对这种武器有不同的看法,文章对此进行了详细介绍。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“New non-lethal (非致命的) weapons — lasers, glue guns, stun guns and electronic jamming (电子干扰 ) — could help forces fight with fewer deaths and better public image.(新型非致命性武器——激光武器、胶枪、电击枪和电子干扰设备——能够帮助部队在减少人员伤亡的同时,树立更好的公众形象。)”可知,机关枪不属于“非致命性武器”范畴。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段““Using so-called ‘non-lethal weapons’ like lasers, will leave the vast majority of casualties blinded for life. If someone develops a weapon that will give severe permanent disablement, we don’t think that’s really an advance.” the adviser added.(这位顾问补充道:“使用诸如激光之类的‘非致命武器’,会导致绝大多数伤者终身失明。如果有人研制出一种能造成严重永久性残疾的武器,我们认为这其实算不上是一种进步。”)”可知,一些专家不赞成“非致命性武器”是因为它们还可能造成更为永久的伤害。故选B。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第八段中的“which would disable them temporarily(使他们暂时失去行动能力)”可知,此处是指抵抗的士兵会被装有弹丸的发射枪击败,所以flattened意为“击败”。故选A。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Supporters of these so-called “non-lethal weapons” claim that they will strongly cut down on battlefield casualties. But many experts fear that devices could actually induce more violence.(这些所谓的“非致命性武器”的支持者声称,它们将能大幅减少战场伤亡人数。但许多专家则担心,这些设备可能会反而引发更多的暴力行为。)”和最后一段““The development of weapons that stun and don’t kill is entirely dependent on the current belief that human life is important,” said a professor of strategic studies in the department of war studies at King’s College London.(伦敦国王学院战争研究系的战略学教授表示:“研发能够使人暂时失去知觉但不会致死的武器,完全取决于当前人们对于人类生命重要性的这种认知。”)”可知,作者在文章中只是援引了支持和反对“非致命性武器”的人的观点,并没有表达自己的偏向,所以作者对“非致命性武器”态度是中立的。故选A。 D Plants cannot run or hide, so they need other strategies to avoid being eaten. “That’s the million-dollar question,” Orrock says. A Defense Attack 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. Since it wasn’t broadcast on TV, I ____36____ (watch) it online during the winter holiday. Although it doesn’t feature beautiful images or an ____37____ (excite) plot, it quietly tells the stories of traditional Chinese craftsmanship and techniques. I was ___38___ (deep) touched by the warmth and faith of our traditional culture. This documentary is different from any I’ve ever seen before. The director is from a rural area of Hunan Province. After ____39____ (live) in a city for many years , he became nostalgic (怀旧的) about the traditional crafts of his home town , so he set out on a quest to record crafts around China . The documentary ____40____ (make) without professional filming equipment or a lot of money. However , its accented narration made me feel at home. What impressed me most in the documentary was a then 80-year-old man who made paper umbrellas with bamboo for the Dai people. Making umbrellas is ____41____ long process that involves many steps, ____42____ he has insisted on making them for many years . It is easy to notice that the hands of these elderly craftspeople are full of wrinkles. This made me think about the ____43____ (important) of craftsmanship — these craftspeople are using their lives to protect our cultural heritage. “I do!“ cried Kendall, sticking her ice cream in the freezer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Paragraph 1: I froze, not knowing what to say. Silence swallowed the whole room. My heart beating wildly, I tried to come up with some reasonable explanations but in vain. “I am sorry,” I said. Then Drew spoke up, “It’s all my fault. The pillow fight was my idea, and I brought in the popcorn. I’ll clean it up.” I couldn’t believe what I had heard. I should have been grateful to him. Instead, I was suspicious. A random act of kindness? That wasn’t like Drew. Paragraph 2: I cornered Drew to tell me why he took the fall (承担责任). “It was my fault, and I didn’t want you to get in trouble. Besides, shouldn’t brothers and sisters stick up for each other? ”He shrugged. I suddenly realized that he was just trying — in his own way — to be my brother. Maybe even my friend. I didn’t know if it would last, but for now, my headache was gone. We invited Drew to watch a movie in the living room. He agreed and went to get his slippers. Then I remembered, “Drew, wait!” 词汇激活 行为类 ①尝试:try/attempt ②想出:come up with/think of/put forward ③意识到:realize/be aware of/be conscious of ④同意:agree/consent/assent ⑤拿:get/fetch 情绪类 ①感激的:grateful/thankful ②怀疑的:suspicious/doubtful/dubious 【点睛】[高分句型1] I couldn’t believe what I had heard.
