How can you make it relaxing and fun? This article offers some simple suggestions to help you enjoy your break. Choosing the Right Destination Choose a suitable destination that is not too far from your home, so you don’t spend most of your time on buses, trains, or planes. You might visit a nearby city or explore a new area in your own town. The most important thing is to spend your time enjoying the place, not just traveling to it. Planning but Staying Open Make a simple plan before you go. Check the opening hours of the sights you really want to see, and book your hotel in advance. If there is a popular restaurant you want to try, you can make a reservation. At the same time, don’t fill every minute. Leave some free time in your schedule for surprise discoveries. Experiencing Local Life Try to experience local life instead of only visiting famous sights. Talk to people who live there and ask them where they like to eat or relax. They often know small shops or parks that are not in guidebooks. A slow walk through a local street or an hour in a cafe (咖啡馆) can easily become your favorite memory of the trip. In the end, remember that the purpose of a weekend break is to rest and enjoy yourself. Get up a little earlier, put away your phone, and notice what you see and hear. Even a short trip can give you new energy and a fresh view of the world. 21. What should you do before the trip? A. Talk with locals. B. Visit small shops. C. Book the rooms. D. Walk along streets. 22. What can locals help you find? A. Popular restaurants. B. Unlisted nice places. C. Means of transport. D. Guidebook attractions. 23. What is the text mainly about? A. Weekend trip advice. B. Short holiday plans. C. Local life experiences. D. City walk destinations. B On a sunny autumn day, teenagers and their parents were busy picking corn and digging sweet potatoes on a piece of farmland in Tianjin. “We ate the corn we grew ourselves. It’s very tasty,” said Yunyao — an autistic (孤独) youth, smiling shyly. Hui’ai Farm, whose name means collecting love, lies in southwest Tianjin and was founded (创办) by eight families with autistic children. Yunyao’s father, Zhu Xijun, is one of the founders of the farm. “I don’t expect the farm to make money. The children are past school age, so they need something to do,” he explained. Guan Xiaoyan, another founder of the farm, noticed that, after her son stayed home following junior high graduation, the life skills and behavioral abilities he had worked hard to learn had begun to weaken. Now, the boy has begun opening up through his work on the farm. He has learned teamwork and built healthy habits, and is more willing to play with others. Autistic children often struggle with social skills, repetitive behaviors, and emotional challenges. Through farm work, the youths interact with friends and family using language, actions and emotions. This process keeps them happy while improving their life skills. This year, Hui’ai Farm produced over 500 kg of corn and more than 15,000 kg of sweet potatoes, which has brought great enjoyment to the autistic youths, as they have seen the fruits of their own farm work. “We hope to develop some high-value-added farm products here in the future. This will allow the youths to promote their skills while also improving the farm’s self-continuity, in turn, helping more people with mental challenges,” Zhu said. 24. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. Farm’s site and condition. B. Teenagers’ farm experience. C. The parent-child relationship. D. The taste of self-planted food. 25. What happened to Guan Xiaoyan’s son after he stayed home? A. His skills and abilities got worse. B. He attended the school graduation. C. He played with friends more often. D. He worked hard to learn knowledge. 26. What does the underlined word “interact” mean in paragraph 4? A. Debate. B. Exercise. C. Celebrate. D. Connect. 27. What is the final goal of planting high-value-added products? A. To make more profits. B. To teach advanced skills. C. To aid people in need. D. To develop new products. C Changing animal poo (粪便) into future babies might sound like magic, but scientists think it could become a new way to help endangered animals. A project in the UK called the “Poo Zoo” is testing whether cells (细胞) in animal waste can be used as tools for preservation. Animal poo is not only full of bacteria (细菌) but also has tiny cells from inside the animal’s body. If the poo is fresh enough, some of these cells are still alive. Researchers have already found living cells in droppings from mice and other animals. These living cells could be used for wildlife rescue. Scientists can take DNA from the cells to study the variety of wild populations and choose which animals can have babies together as parents. In the future, the same cells might even be used to produce baby animals in the lab. One possible method is cloning (克隆), in which the key part of a living cell is put into an empty egg cell and then grows inside another female. A more creative idea is to reprogram these living cells into many types of cells, including sex cells. In mice, scientists have already shown that such cells can be turned into sex cells. If this works for endangered animals, scientists could use lab-made sex cells to help them have babies without catching them or taking sex cells directly from their bodies. The “Poo Zoo” method also has practical advantages. Getting living cells from the blood, skin or hair of endangered animals can be dangerous and expensive, but collecting poo is safe and does not hurt the animals. These cells can be kept in bio-banks for years. A wildlife protection organization has successfully cloned an extinct species using preserved cells. However, many experts warn that the “Poo Zoo” method alone cannot save wildlife. They point out that protecting habitats and fighting illegal hunting are still the most important tasks. New tools like those used in the “Poo Zoo” should support rather than replace traditional preservation work. 28. Why can animal waste be used for animal protection? A. Because it has living cells. B. Because it is fresh enough. C. Because it has magic power. D. Because it is rich in bacteria. 29. Why does the author mention mice in paragraph 4? A. To compare different species. B. To make a sound suggestion. C. To show an unexpected result. D. To give a successful example. 30. Which of the following words can best describe the “Poo Zoo” way? A. Cheap and productive. B. Creative and expensive. C. Harmless and effective. D. Practical and traditional. 31. What is the experts’ attitude to the “Poo Zoo” method? A. Hopeful. B. Objective. C. Unclear. D. Worried. D Based on a three-year-long study on millions of phones in ninety-eight countries, researchers found the global network of Android smartphones makes a useful earthquake early warning system, which can detect (探测) earthquakes and give users valuable seconds to act before the shaking starts. Many countries have used traditional earthquake early warning systems with networks of earthquakes sensors to detect quakes and issue warnings across the affected area. Building such networks is expensive, and many areas where earthquakes are common do not have them. What they do have, however, is smartphones, which have built-in movement sensors. Using Android smartphones — which make up 70% of the global smartphone market — researchers developed the Android Earthquake Alert (AEA) system. “Although AEA is not always as timely as the traditional network detection, it can still detect small shaking during strong earthquakes,” says Allen, the leader of the study. Working on the same way as traditional earthquake detection systems, AEA system will send two types of warnings to the phone after detecting an earthquake. For earthquakes of magnitude (震级) 4.5 or higher, the system sends “Take Action” warnings to users. These warnings are designed to draw users’ attention immediately and remind them to take protective actions. It also delivers “Be Aware” warnings to areas expected to experience a shaking of magnitude 3 or 4. To test how effective these warnings were, the researchers used search engines (搜索引擎) to collect voluntary answers. Results from around 15.5 million people showed that 87% of them did experience shaking, with 36% receiving the warning before the ground began to move, 28% during and 23% after. Now, the researchers are focused on improving the AEA system. “We think that we can continue to improve the quality of earthquake detection, and also improve on our strategies to deliver effective warnings,” says Allen. In the future, Allen and his teammates hope to use the same information to produce other disaster-reducing tools. Maps of ground shaking, for example, could help the emergency rescue after an earthquake. 32. What is AEA’s advantage over the traditional way? A. It has smarter sensors. B. It requires less funding. C. It sends earlier warnings. D. It detects smaller quakes. 33. What decides the type of warnings? A. Result of the earthquake. B. Site of the earthquake. C. Magnitude of the earthquake. D. Reason of the earthquake. 34. What do Allen’s words mean in paragraph 5? A. Technological advances prevent disasters. B. Researches on earthquakes are in demand. C. Quality of rescue tools requires improvement. D. The warning system needs further development. 35. What is the purpose of this text? A. To introduce a warming system. B. To compare two types of alerts. C. To raise public safety awareness. D. To promote a disaster rescue tool. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A Beginner’s Guide to Learning a New Language Learning a new language contributes a lot to your personal growth. 36 If you decide to get started, the following suggestions may help you take on the challenge. Instead, adapt your study plan to fit your daily routine. 39 The key is to make the language a part of your daily life. This can be achieved (实现) by listening to music, watching movies and TV shows, and reading books and articles. If possible, traveling to where the language is spoken is also a helpful method. In Mexico, I was a cheerful girl who loved making people laugh with my jokes and inventing fun games to play with my friends. However, when I arrived in America, I found it hard to fit in, and I became quieter. We lived in a small house with a fairly small yard where we grew vegetables — my responsibility. While I took pride in watching them grow, there were times when I dreamed of having a beautiful garden like my schoolmate Luella’s, with beautiful roses. Although Luella lived in the same neighborhood as me, we didn’t really know each other. It was after a tornado (龙卷风) that Luella and I finally became close friends. The tornado struck on a Sunday afternoon. The gentle air changed into a strong wind, and thick gray clouds filled the sky. Gradually, the tornado took shape, starting as a thin rope and growing into a large black funnel (漏斗). My entire family gathered in the bathroom, looking for shelter from the storm. Terrified, I sat close to my mom, knees in my chest. After the storm had passed, our worries and fears were replaced by relief that we were unharmed and that our house had remained undamaged. As I stepped outside, I saw the damage the tornado had caused to our neighborhood. Across the street, a tall tree had fallen, damaged Luella’s garden in front of her yellow house. We hurried over to check on it. Luckily, her family seemed to be away at the time, and no one was injured. However, her once-beautiful garden was in ruins, with the fallen tree destroying the roses and debris (碎片) spread everywhere. I could only imagine how heartbroken they must feel seeing this. Then my mom’s usual words rang in my ear, “It is happier to give than to receive,” and my family started to think about how we could help. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Para 1. Just at that moment, Luella’s family returned in their car. Para 2. Even after the debris was cleared, I could still sense Luella’s sadness for her lost garden. 56. a 57. for 58. was included 59. appearance 60. showing 61. has used 62. Here are the reasons. Firstly, a team sport like basketball can help you make friends and develop team spirit, which is more interesting than running alone. In addition, as a senior one student, you have heavy homework on weekdays. Morning running may make you tired in classes, while weekend sports can fully relax you. Finally, you can improve skills by learning from some of your teammates who are better at the sport. Hope these ideas come in handy. Either way, play it safe and enjoy yourself! Yours, Li Hua 读后续写参考范文 Just at that moment, Luella’s family returned in their car. Sympathy upwelled in my mind as I saw their shock and disbelief. Approaching Luella, I said awkwardly, “I’m so sorry for your loss, but thankfully you’re all right.” She weakly nodded, still upset by the sad scene. My family volunteered to help clean up the mess, cutting down the branches and removing the fallen trees. Sensing Luella’s low spirits, I tried my best to cheer her up while tidying the garden with her, during which my own joyful personality seemed to awake a bit. Even after the debris was cleared, I could still sense Luella’s sadness for her lost garden. My heart went out to her, knowing her devotion to those roses she had grown. Determined to restore the beauty that once flowered, I suggested that we rebuild the garden, which Luella delightedly agreed. With each branch carefully planted and watered, the new rose seedlings filled the garden once again, I could feel that friendship between us strengthened during the process. My mom was right: It’s happier to give than to receive because when you give, you may receive something unexpected in return. 听力原文 TEXT 1 W: Are you going to prepare for the project? M: Mr Peterson said we should study alone, but Mr Owen advised us to get into a study group. TEXT 2 M: What time does the bus leave for the airport? W: It’s 6:15 now. There are 15 minutes left for us. Let’s hurry, Tony. TEXT 3 M: What do you think of cutting your hair short this time? W: Short, but I like my long straight hair. M: Okay, let’s try a new color. Maybe black. W: That sounds interesting. TEXT 4 M: Good morning, Linda. The flowers in your front yard are looking wonderful this year. W: Thanks, will you all be coming to our street party at the weekend? M: Yes, although the kids have summer school first. TEXT 5 W: Mr Kennedy, it’s becky, I’m sorry but I can’t make it into work today. I’m at the hospital. M: Are you all right? W: It’s my daughter. She woke up with a stomach ache this morning. TEXT 6 W: Did you like the movie? M: Yes, I enjoyed it very much. The ending was so touching. It brought tears to my eyes. I even bought a poster of it. W: Right, I was a bit surprised to see you cry. M: I sometimes cry in the movie theaters. Anyway, did you enjoy the movie? W: I did, though its hero is handsome. I like the storyline best. At first I was angry at the hero for what he did, but then I was pleased to see him change. In the end, I felt very proud of him. TEXT 7 M: Hi, Barbara, how was your break? W: Great, thanks. I’m glad to be back. One more term to go. M: How is your course? W: Easy, except for French. That’s the one I’m worried about. I want to learn it, but I’m afraid it might lower my grade point average. Do you think I should drop it? M: That’s a tough decision. How about getting some extra practice instead? I have a French speaking friend who could help. Want her number? W: Really? That would be great. Maybe that’s the solution. TEXT 8 W: Hey, I saw a video of giant pandas online and noticed that the panda keeper looked like you. M: Yeah, that was me. W: I admire you for being able to turn your interest into your job. M: It’s so meaningful to know our work makes a real difference. Also, it’s great to see that the wild giant panda population has increased from about 1100 in the 1980s to over 1900 now. W: That’s cool. It must feel good to contribute to such a positive change. M: Absolutely. My team make every effort to ensure the well-being and conservation of these amazing animals. TEXT 9 M: Excuse me, Madam, does Richard live here? W: Yes, he is my husband. M: Sorry to trouble you. I’m Alexander Pappas. Your husband Richard left his wallet in my taxi yesterday. I happened to pick it up when I cleaned my car this morning. I just come here to give it back to him. W: Oh, he was really too careless. He’s not at home at this moment and he has gone to his office. You can give it to me. Thank you very much for your help. M: It’s my pleasure. W: But I’m still wondering how you found us here. M: I planned to call the police, but luckily the wallet contains Richard’s card and I just followed the address. Here it is. W: I’m really thankful. The wallet is very important to him. You know, it would bring about lots of trouble if you hadn’t found the wallet. You are so kind-hearted. TEXT 10 When it comes to creating good study habits, one of the best things I’ve ever done is to download, go study. It’s an app my brother recommended to me back when I was in high school, and I’ve been using it ever since. In class, it helps you take notes in a few different ways. It can record the speech and turn it into text, which you can then save, edit and share. You can also take a photograph of any type of written text, a textbook, a document, even a teacher’s notes on the blackboard, and then turn this into editable text. It makes note taking so easy. I couldn’t go to a class without it now. You can also upload class study materials, use the app’s software to create mind maps, test cards and others, study aids and share them with classmates. And if you often forget things like me, you’ll probably love the study planner feature. It helps me organize my classes, homework, tests and projects. If you’re a student, I highly recommend go study. 部分答案解析 A篇 21.细节理解题。根据第三段“Make a simple plan ...book your hotel in advance.”可知,旅行前需要做的事是预订房间。故选C项。 22.细节理解题。根据第四段“Talk to people who live there... that
