Texting while walking has become quite common. There is even a catchy name for it: twalking. It’s dangerous to twalk. People who stare (盯着看) at their phones while walking can easily run into an object or person, trip over something or fall. Some people say twalkers should be fined (罚款). They argue that their behavior is just as dangerous as drunk driving. Others disagree. They say handing out fines is going a step too far. Which side are you on?
If you’re looking at your phone while walking, you’re clearly putting yourself and others at risk. Fining twalkers would make people take the danger more seriously. Just think about how many people didn’t wear seatbelts until it was required by law. Studies have shown that spending too much time on our phones isn’t good for our health. If people stop twalking, they’ll look up, look around and enjoy the world around them.
Twalking is a bad habit and can be dangerous. However, I don’t think fines are the answer. Leaders should instead come up with creative ways to make streets safer. For example, a city in Poland added traffic lights to the sidewalk. This allows people to see the signals (信号) even if they are looking down. More importantly, people should learn to be responsible citizens on their own. They shouldn’t need to be fined to know when to put their phones away.
56. What does the underlined word “twalking” refer to?
A. Driving after drinking. B. Texting while walking.
C. Looking around while walking. D. Running into objects on the street.
57. What is Anthony Lin’s opinion about fining twalkers?
A. She thinks it is unnecessary.
B. She argues that it is as dangerous as drunk driving.
C. She suggests using creative ways instead of fines.
D. She believes it can make people take the danger more seriously.
58. Which of the following would Hasan Walker probably agree with?
A. Twalking should be completely stopped by law.
B. People need fines to know when to put phones away.
C. Creative methods should be used to improve street safety.
D. The laws about twalking are very effective now.
【答案】56. B 57. D 58. C
【解析】

I’ve been interested in nature since I was little. Every weekend, I’d borrow many books about animals from the library. I dreamed of following in Jane Goodall’s footsteps, going away for years to live in the wild and study animals.
Over the years, I’ve changed in many ways, but my love of nature has never gone. When I entered high school last year, I joined the Science Olympiad team. The old sense of wonder when studying animals came back. Every day brings new adventures. One day, I might be exploring the birth of the universe; the next, I could be studying the rocks under my feet.
I’m lucky to have so many amazing teammates. Together, we’ve run tests to make the design of our model car perfect. We’ve pretended (假装) to be forensic scientists (法医), solving “crimes” (犯罪) by studying different objects. I was used to working alone. I once thought a team could succeed only if everyone was an expert. Working with my teammates has changed my mind. As the old saying goes, “Many hands make light work.” No great progress has been made alone. It always takes thousands of people—working together—to make the impossible possible.
I am eager (渴望) for my next science adventure. But unlike before, I now know that I won’t be an explorer alone. My teammates will be by my side, learning and growing with me.

62. What can we learn from the passage?

For the past eighteen years of my life, I’ve always celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with my family. However, this will be the first year that I spend the Mid-Autumn Festival away from them.
To help reduce some of the homesickness, my friends and I are planning to attend a full-moon-themed party in New York City’s Chinatown. Even though the party is a few days after the Mid-Autumn Festival, I’m sure it will still be fun. I’m really touched that my friends suggested this especially since none of them are from Asian countries. I can’t wait to show them how much fun this Chinese festival is.
As a newcomer to the US, I miss my family a lot, but I know I have to get used to not being able to see them when I want. It’s part of growing up. At the same time, I’m looking forward to spending the Mid-Autumn Festival with my friends. Even though we’ve only known each other for a month, I already consider them family.
If, like me, you feel homesick in the Mid-Autumn Festival, hanging out with a couple of close friends will be a good choice. It’s easy to become busy with school life, so having a small get-together will be a great way to take a break from your heavy schoolwork, chat with friends, and admire the moon on this special day.
70. Which word can best describe the feeling of the writer in Paragraph 1?
A. Nervous. B. Lonely. C. Embarrassed. D. Ashamed.

Once upon a time, in a forest, there lived a monkey and an elephant. They were good friends and did almost everything together.
But one day, the two had a disagreement. The monkey argued (争论) that being fast and agile (敏捷的) was key to success. The elephant disagreed. He believed that strength mattered much more. So they turned to the wise owl for help.
After listening, the owl pointed to a shiny fruit at the top of a tall tree across the river. “Bring me that fruit,” he said. “And then I’ll answer your question.”
They set off. When the two reached the bank, the monkey froze (呆住)—It was too deep and too wide for him to cross. The elephant, however, rushed forward and easily got to the tree. But when he tried to reach the fruit, he found it was too high. The elephant had no choice but to return to the riverbank to ask the monkey for help. Once they reached the tree, the monkey climbed it and picked the fruit. Then they made their way back.
The owl asked, “Of the two of you, which one brought fruit to me?” The monkey proudly said, “I did! I climbed the tree and picked it.” The elephant argued, “No, I did! Without me, he couldn’t have even crossed the river!”

A. Twalking should be completely stopped by law.
B. People need fines to know when to put phones away.
C. Creative methods should be used to improve street safety.
