I ran to the door. Dad smiled as if he had a secret. “It feels cold to us, but it’s warm and attractive to see a frog. Are you coming?” he asked I agreed gladly and then put on my raincoat. “Hey, look at this one,” Dad shined his light on a green frog the size of his thumb. The frog jumped, its four legs sticking straight out I found my first frog on a driveway. A bright-green one with shiny skin. I wondered what it would feel like. I could see the frog breathing. I could imagine a car running over it. I said, “Dad, can you move this one?” “You do it,” Dad said. I looked at the frog. I didn’t want to touch it. But I didn’t want it to get squashed (压扁的). I reached down. It jumped through my fingers. I tried again. Cupping one hand around the frog, I picked it up with the other hand. Its skin felt cold and soft. The frog moved. I walked to the grass and held out my hand. The frog climbed up my wrist. I laughed. Then I gently placed the frog onto the grass. We walked a couple of blocks. We found lots of frogs — brown ones, green ones and spotted ones. I got better at finding them. If they were in the road, we moved them when traffic was clear. I actually started to like picking them up. I was ready to go home. Then I saw something moving near a stone wall. Something bigger than a frog. Dad and I shined our lights and crouched. “Is it a lizard (蜥蜴)?” I asked. “No, it’s a salamander,” Dad said. “Hey, I just realized something,” I said. “The animals out tonight — frogs and salamanders — are Amphibians (两栖动物). We’d learned about amphibians in school.” “Great observation,” Dad said. 4. How did the author feel when his dad asked him to see frogs? A. Frightened. B. Disappointed. C. Terrible. D. Excited. 5. Why did the author move the frog on the driveway? A. He did it for fun. B. He would like to picture it. C. He wanted to observe it carefully. D. He wanted to protect it from danger. 6. Which of the following word can bent describe the author’s experience? A. Worthwhile. B. Boring. C. Tiring. D. Fruitless. 7. What does the story tell us? A. Love every creature around us. B. Unite outdoor activities and health. C. Children should get closer to nature. D. Good parent-child relationship is important. C On Wednesday, a search team called Endurance22 announced that it had located the wreck (沉船) Endurance. The Endurance was found 1. 87 miles below the ocean’s surface, about four miles south of its last known location. Over a hundred years after it sank near Antarctica, the ship has been found. The ship sank after it got trapped in the ice in the Weddell Sea in 1915. The discovered ship is still in excellent shape. The name can be clearly read on the back of the ship. Its wheel looks ready to be turned. Even though the ship is made of wood and is over 100 years old, it has survived with little damage. Scientists say that the small organisms (微生物) that normally break down wooden objects underwater don’t live in cold water around Antarctica. The Endurance22 is led by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. The team ran the project from an ice-breaking ship which was able to handle the difficult conditions of the Weddell Sea. To locate the Endurance, the team used two underwater robots called Sabertooths. For the last two weeks, the Sabertooths robots have been scanning the seafloor in a 150-square mile area around the Endurance’s last known location. The Sabertooths were especially useful, since they could travel under the ice and go where the ship could not. The robots were looking for anything sticking up above the seafloor. Last Saturday, the ship was found. After the ship was located, the Sabertooths used high-quality cameras and scanners to record the Endurance in detail. The Endurance is expected to remain untouched. Antarctica’s waters are protected by an international agreement, which means the ship can’t be disturbed. The Endurance22 team plans to create a digital 3D model of the wreck site, using a careful scan they made. This will allow scientists to study the ship in detail without disturbing it. 8. What helped to keep the Endurance in good shape? A. Special wood. B. Sea sand. C. Fine weather. D. Cold water. 9. How did the robots locate the Endurance? A. By searching the seafloor. B. By breaking ice for researchers. C. By picking up signals from the ship. D. By diving undersea with scientists. 10. What plays the most important role in finding the Endurance? A. Patience. B. Weather. C. Technology. D. Luck. 11. What is the best title for the passage? A. Study the Endurance. B. Explore the Weddell Sea. C. Locate the Endurance. D. Scan the seafloor. D “Sitting is actually aging you faster,” said Katy Bowman, a doctor. She added, “a lot of what you regard as aging is heavily influenced by your sitting time.” Americans spend a great deal of time sitting, perhaps as long as nine and a half hours per day on average. While studies suggest women may sit less than men, it is agreed that we all sit more than previous generations did. The outcomes are serious. A major study followed 480,000 people over 13 years. It found that those who sat most of the work day had a 34 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease and a 16 percent higher risk of death overall compared to less sedentary (久坐的)workers. The authors suggested adding 15 to 30 minutes of daily physical activity to lower this risk. Other studies propose that sedentary people may need to double the standard weekly exercise recommendations. In short, uninterrupted sitting is harmful to your heart, joints, muscles, metabolism, and mental health. The American Heart Association warns that long-time sitting increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, even for regular exercisers. It can take as little as 30 minutes of continuous sitting to weaken blood vessel function, with risks escalating beyond 10 hours of sitting. Sitting for extended periods is also linked to lower back pain. Studies show that important leg muscles may become less active after only 30 minutes of sitting, leading to weakness and potential pain over time. Additionally, sitting burns very little energy. A sedentary lifestyle can weaken the body’s ability to control blood sugar and break down fat, increasing the risk of weight gain and Type 2 diabetes (Ⅱ型糖尿病). For instance, American workers now burn about 100 fewer calories daily than they did 50 years ago. In the end, while the modern world encourages sitting, our bodies are built for movement. Unlocking a healthier, younger-feeling body might be as simple as remembering to stand up. It is one of the most powerful and accessible health tools we have. 12. What does Katy Bowman’s remark imply? A. Reducing sitting may stop aging. B. Sitting decides on the way we age. C. Doctors have the final say on aging. D. Sitting time greatly affects the aging sense. 13. What happens after 30 minutes of continuous sitting? A. More fat will be taken in. B. Blood sugar becomes under control. C. The upper back becomes painful. D. Main leg muscles may become inactive. 14. Which one can replace the underlined word “escalating”? A. Going down. B. Staying the same. C. Going up. D. Disappearing. 15. What is the main information this text conveys? A. Modern jobs require too much sitting. B. Moving regularly is important for health. C. Exercise can completely remove sitting risks. D. Sitting too much is comfortable but unhealthy. Happiness often seems like a moving target. When we are young, it might be as simple as a. new toy or a friend’s visit. As we grow older, our idea of happiness changes — it might be tied to good grades, a first love, or landing a dream job. ____16____. Why is that? One reason is that we often look for happiness outside ourselves. We think, “If only I had that phone,” or “If only I did better on the test,” then I would be happy. ____17____. We keep waiting for the next thing to make us feel complete, but the feeling is often short. The truth is, happiness is not something you find — it is something you build. ____18____. It’s a feeling shaped by your mindset and daily choices. It is already inside you when you appreciate small moments: a sunny day, a kind word, a good laugh with someone you love. ____19____. There will be days when you feel stressed, disappointed, or lost. But happiness doesn’t have to disappear in difficult times. You can choose to focus on what you have, not what you lack. You can be thankful for your health, your family, or simply being alive. This ability to see the good, even when things are hard, is a key to lasting happiness. So how can you build a happier life? Start by paying attention to the small joys around you. Be kind to yourself and others. Allow yourself to dream, but also learn to enjoy the journey. Happiness doesn’t come from having everything, but from appreciating what you already have. Remember: it’s not a destination to reach, but a way of living to cherish. ____20____. A. Life will always bring challenges B. Start today, and build your own happiness C. When we get what we want, we feel happy D. It comes from within, not from things or achievements E. This search for the next happy moment can become a habit F. It’s not what you have that brings you happiness, but what you want G. C. Terrible. D. Excited. 5. C Locate the Endurance. D. Scan the seafloor. D 9. A 10. C 11. C。 D “Sitting is actually aging you faster,” said Katy Bowman, a doctor. D 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段中““Sitting is actually aging you faster,” said Katy Bowman, a doctor. She added, “a lot of what you regard as aging is heavily influenced by your sitting time.”(医生凯蒂·鲍曼说:“久坐实际上会加速你的衰老。” 根据第五段中“Studies show that important leg muscles may become less active after only 30 minutes of sitting, leading to weakness and potential pain over time.(研究表明,仅仅坐30分钟后,重要的腿部肌肉就会变得不那么活跃,随着时间的推移,会导致虚弱和潜在的疼痛)”可知,连续坐30分钟后,主要的腿部肌肉可能会变得不活跃。 根据画线词上文“It can take as little as 30 minutes of continuous sitting to weaken blood vessel function, with risks(连续坐着30分钟就可能削弱血管功能,带来风险)”以及后文“beyond 10 hours of sitting(久坐超过10小时)”可知,连续坐30分钟就可能削弱血管功能,坐超过10小时风险会上升,故画线词意思是“上升”。 根据最后一段“In the end, while the modern world encourages sitting, our bodies are built for movement. Unlocking a healthier, younger-feeling body might be as simple as remembering to stand up. It is one of the most powerful and accessible health tools we have.(最后,虽然现代世界鼓励久坐,但我们的身体是为运动而生的。 Happiness often seems like a moving target. Yet, even when we get what we want, happiness doesn’t always stay 【答案】16. G 17. E 18. D 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 上文“As we grow older, our idea of happiness changes — it might be tied to good grades, a first love, or landing a dream job.(随着年龄的增长,我们对幸福的看法也会发生变化——它可能与好成绩、初恋或找到一份理想的工作有关)”说明随着年龄增长,我们对幸福的定义会变,空处和前文为转折关系,指出即便得到幸福也不长久。 【17题详解】 上文“We think, “If only I had that phone,” or “If only I did better on the test,” then I would be happy.(我们会想,“要是我有那部手机就好了”,或者“要是我考试考得更好就好了”,那我就会很开心了)”说明我们总是认为得到某样东西就会幸福,下文“We keep waiting for the next thing to make us feel complete, but the feeling is often short.(我们一直在等待下一件事能让我们感到完整,但这种感觉往往很短暂)”这种追寻会成为习惯。 【18题详解】 上文“The truth is, happiness is not something you find — it is something you build.(事实上,幸福不是你找到的东西,而是你构建的东西)”说明幸福不是找到的,而是构建的,空处承接上文,进一步说明幸福的来源。 【19题详解】 下文“There will be days when you feel stressed, disappointed, or lost.(总会有一些日子,你会感到压力、失望或迷失)”说明生活中会有挑战,空处位于段首,应引出下文,说明生活会有挑战。 故选A。 20题详解】 上文“Remember: it’s not a destination to reach, but a way of living to cherish.(记住:幸福不是一个要到达的目的地,而是一种要珍惜的生活方式)”说明幸福是一种生活方式,空处为结尾呼吁。 I had this girl in my class and I always considered her to be really foolish.
