At the celebration, you will do many interesting things. You will see the big colorful Aoyu that appeared at the opening ceremony of the National Games. You can also learn the Aoyu dance yourself!
Here is our plan for the day:

·9:00 a. m.—11:00 a. m.: Watch the show and learn the dance.

On Oct 18, the world said goodbye to a great mind. Professor Yang Chen-Ning, a famous scientist and Nobel Prize winner, passed away in Beijing at the age of 103.
With another scientist, Tsung-Dao Lee, Yang made a big finding about the laws of nature. This finding helped them win the Nobel Prize in physics in 1957 and changed how people understood symmetry (对称性) in nature.
Physics shows beauty through symmetry, while life is often full of complexity. Yang’s life showed this truth. Although Yang became the first Chinese to win the Nobel Prize during the Cold War, he was far away from China and could not even receive the tea his father sent him. He lived between two cultures—he was “an Eastern scientist in the West” and “a Western representative (代表) of the East”.
In 1971, when the US allowed Yang to travel to China, he returned and became one of the first Chinese- American scientists to visit after years of separation. He traveled between China and the US, giving speeches and working hard to inspire young people. In 2003, Yang moved back to Beijing and taught physics at Tsinghua University at the age of 81.He started from basic ideas like time and the speed of light. He also helped build a world-class research center at Tsinghua.
In 2015, Yang gave up his US citizenship (公民身份) and decided to stay in China forever. He called his home “Gui Gen Ju (归根居)”, showing that his life had returned to where it started.
31. What does the underlined word “complexity” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A Luck. B. Friendship. C. Difficulty. D. Peace.
32. According to the text, which is the correct order of the following events?
a.Yang gave up his US citizenship
b.Yang won the Nobel Prize in physics.
c.Yang first returned to visit China in 1971.
d.Yang moved back to Beijing and taught at Tsinghua.
A. b-c-d-a B. c-b-d-a C. b-a-d-c D. a-b-d-c
33. Why did Yang Chen-Ning call his home “Gui Gen Ju”?
A. To show he missed his first school.
B. To remember his friend Tsung-Dao Lee.
C. To name it after the university where he taught.
D. To express that his life had finally returned to its beginning.
34. In which part of a newspaper can you probably read the text?
A. Science. B. People. C. Culture. D. Travel.
35. What can we learn from Yang’s decision to return to China?
A. A scientist can also be a great teacher.
B. Building bridges between cultures is valuable.
C. Great achievements require long-time hard work.
D. Loving one’s country and serving it is meaningful.
【答案】31. C 32. A 33. D 34. B 35. D

【31题详解】
第二段指出“while life is often full of complexity”,结合前文“Physics shows beauty through symmetry(物理通过对称展现美)”,转折关系表明生活与物理的“对称美”形成对比,应是充满“复杂、难解”的特质,因此划线单词“complexity”意为“困难、复杂”。
第四段明确提到“He called his home“Gui Gen Ju”(归根居), showing that his life had finally returned to where it started.”,直接说明取名“归根居”是为了表达人生最终回归起点的心意。
