(W) The 2025 school year was the first time for both our kids to be in school every day. Our daughter is ten years old and our son is four years old. It was also the first year for me to take care of them by myself, because my husband took a job in a different city. He lived away on workdays and returned only on weekends.
It was not terrible for him, but it was not an easy task for me. When school began in September, I suddenly got my spare time—a whole morning. I really loved this little break from my daily chores.
On the second Tuesday of the school year, my friend Julie invited me to enjoy coffee with a group of friends. Even with a long to-do list, I decided to share the time with them.
When I arrived, Julie introduced me to her friends. I didn’t expect how much they changed my life. We solved daily problems together, introduced good doctors, lawyers to each other and shared both tears and sweetness.
Now I know true friendship isn’t just for good times—it’s about having people to cry with and listen to you when times get hard.

Planning also helps us do with our personal budget. If we make a “spending list”, we can regularly find out how much we have. This helps us save money and achieve both small wishes and big dreams.
Whether it’s for studying, working, or achieving personal dreams, a good plan helps us use time wisely and make fewer mistakes. Besides, we feel less worried when things change suddenly.
Now we know why planning is so important! To start with, write down our goal. Then separate it into 3 small and easy tasks. Next, plan how to finish them one by one. Little by little, our plan will turn our big dreams into real things!

根据下文“But for poor families... there was free”以及爱心厨房的公益性质,此处指不收取任何费用。
keep on doing sth.

In 2024, an AI robot with an “arm” and 3D-imaging technology performed a dental procedure (牙科手术) on a human patient for the first time. The robot prepared a patient’s tooth for a crown (牙冠).
Although most people probably won’t meet this AI robot soon, we’d like to know: Would you trust a robot to do the doctor’s work? Here are some kids’ opinions.
Oscar Yocom-Piatt, 10
Robots could be even better than real dentists. They could do the dental work faster and clean your teeth better. And, there could still be a real dentist in the room. If the robot fails, the human dentist can finish the work.
Vicky Sun, 12
I think robots are useful in some places, but for our health, I believe humans should be the best. Robots may misunderstand some people’s teeth problems.
Madeline Martinez, 11
Robots can perform the task of high quality. If a robot dentist treats me, I can feel safe. These robots will be tested (测试) first before they start working as dentists.
Evie A, 11
If I say, “My tooth is killing me! I hope it disappears,” a robot might think, “Oh, she wants her tooth out.” It can’t understand what I really mean!
Where do you stand? AI, like the dental robot, brings new ease and new good things to our lives. If we use it as a helpful tool, we can get its benefits while staying safe.

Workers in Minnesota, USA were really surprised when they opened a shipping box from China and heard a weak “meow”. Inside, they found a little, thin, scared cat hiding (隐藏) among wooden boxes. They named her Xiao Mao because she came from China.
At first, Xiao Mao was in a bad situation after staying in the dark box for almost three weeks. People believed she stayed alive by drinking water drops and eating some food. When she was found, she was thin and weak. “We don’t want to make her feel worried, so we haven’t done a full body exam,” said a worker in a rescue (救援) centre. “But she looks fine and shows no serious health problems.”
Now Xiao Mao is staying at Pet Haven, a home for pets, where she met another cat named Prince. At first, she hid when people came near, but soon she started coming out to say hi and even chirped (唧唧叫) happily!
After a few months of good care, Xiao Mao became friendly, brave and confident. The workers called her “the smallest but bravest traveller ever”. They hope Xiao Mao and Prince will find new owners soon. The rescue centre also encourages the public to adopt or take care of animals, so more pets like Xiao Mao can get warm, loving homes.
44. What made the workers surprised when they opened the box?
A. Seeing a thin cat in China. B. Hearing a weak cat sound. C. Finding wooden boxes inside.

上文提到“Many people think that home organizers just go into people’s dirty houses, tell them they have too many things, and make them throw (扔掉) most of the things away.”,这是很多人对家庭整理师的误解,下文“Here’s what great home organizers really do.”
上文提到“We know life can be busy, and that’s why things get dirty. That’s okay!”,说明家庭整理师理解人们生活忙碌导致家里脏乱,下文“So we will work hard-moving things, sorting, and finding the right place for everything.”
下文提到“We can help you decide what to keep and what to throw away.”,说明家庭整理师会帮助决定保留和扔掉的东西,所以此处应说明有时候人们不需要拥有的所有东西,D选项“有时候,你不需要拥有你所有的东西。”

On October 12, 2025, a flying car flew up over Dubai at a flight (航空) show. Xinhua said this is a new step to share China’s low-altitude aircraft technology (低空飞行器技术) with the world.
The flying car, Land Air Flying Carrier, is special. It is the world’s first modular (模块化的) flying car. People can take the aircraft apart (分开) in just five minutes.
To get the car ready for flying, you just need to push one button (按钮). The aircraft can take off and land straight up and down. It can fly by itself or with a person’s help. When it flies alone, it can plan the way and guide itself. The aircraft can fly for 30 minutes and reach 1,000 metres high.
The flying car is really cool. But we still need to wait for a long time to use it in our daily life. There are some problems we have to solve first. We need to build places for the flying car to land, and make full traffic rules for it.
The History of Flying Cars
1917
The US flight expert Glenn Curtiss brought the idea of a flying car to life. He made Autoplane. It had three wings but couldn’t really fly.
1949
The US inventor Molt Taylor made Aerocar. It was a small plane. Its wings could fold next to each other.
1950

1950
The US Fulton Airphibian was the first car-plane. This means it could be both a car and an airplane.
1960s
Canadian inventor Paul Moller came up with the idea of Moller Skycar in 1952. It could go up and down like a helicopter. He made the first model in 1965.
2009
The US company Terrafugia’s Transition flew for the first time in March 2009. It could turn into a car.

Our daughter is ten years old and our son is four years old. IT was also the first year for me to take care of them by myself because my husband took a job in a different city. He lived away on workdays and returned only on weekends. IT was not terrible for him, but he was not an easy task for me. When school began in september, I suddenly got my spare time a whole morning. I really loved this little break from my daily tours. On the second tuesday of the school year, my friend Julie invited me to enjoy coffee with a group of friends. Even with a long to do list, I decided to share the time with them. When I arrived, Julie introduced me to her friends. I didn't expect how much they change my life. We solved daily problems together, introduced good doctors, lawyers to each other, and share both tears and sweetness. Now I know true friendship isn't just for good times. It's about having people to cry with and listen to you when times get hard. The twenty twenty five school year was the first time for both our kids to be in school every day.
