A shark’s teeth are its most important tool but a new study has suggested that climate change is damaging and weakening them. “They’re highly developed weapons built for cutting meat, not resisting ocean acid,” said the study’s leading researcher, Maximilian Baum from Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf (HHU). Though sharks constantly replace their teeth, the worsening condition of our oceans could soon damage them faster than they can be repaired. As our oceans absorb more and more carbon dioxide (CO2) due to climate change, they’re becoming increasingly acidic. Currently, the oceans are slightly alkaline (碱性的) with a pH of 8.1, but this could drop to as low as 7.3 by 2300. As part of an undergraduate project, which has now been published in Frontiers, Baum aimed to find out how much of an impact this change could have on sea life. He managed to acquire hundreds of blacktip reef shark teeth to use in the investigation. Around 50 of the undamaged teeth were then placed into tanks filled with water at various pHs, and kept there for eight weeks. When they were inspected at the end of the experiment, it was clear that the teeth in the acidic water had considerably more damage than the teeth in the 8.1 pH water. “We observed visible surface damage such as cracks and holes, increased root corrosion, and structural breakdown,” said Prof Sebastian Fraune from HHU. The acidic water also caused the surface of the teeth to become rough (粗糙的) and irregular. While this might have helped enhance the shark’s cutting ability, it also compromised the tooth’s structure. This made them more likely to break. “Maintaining ocean pH near the current average of 8.1 could be critical for the physical integrity of predators’ tools,” said Baum. “It’s a reminder that climate change impacts spread through entire food webs and ecosystems.” 24. Why may shark teeth be damaged faster in the future? A. Ocean plants will decrease. B. The sea will become more acidic. C. Their teeth will grow thinner. D. Sharks will hunt more often. 25. How did the researchers carry out their study? A. They tracked the growth of new teeth over time. B. They compared teeth from several shark species. C. They followed sharks in their natural hunting environment. D. They tested how shark teeth reacted in different water conditions. 26. What does the underlined word “compromised” in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Weakened. B. Affected. C. Repaired. D. Shaped. 27. What message does Baum convey in the last paragraph? A. Sharks will have smaller habitats. B. Teeth changes help sharks hunt. C. Ocean pH is important for sea life. D. Climate change stops food growth. C Generative AI is changing how we work. Tools like DeepSeek and ChatGPT help people write everything from emails to blog posts 40% faster than they used to, according to a 2023 MIT study. The new technologies are transforming technical jobs in particular. A study determined that gen AI coding tools can cut programming time by 56%, for instance. How should workers use such time windfalls? Generally, the popular view is that people will use AI-generated time savings to enhance their personal lives, develop innovations, or increase productivity. However, two surveys of 302 AI users and 57 managers from around the world, conducted by the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, in early 2024, challenge that thinking. The surveys asked questions like: Do you save time using gen AI? Do you feel you have more time for other things? Do you rearrange time for personal or work-related tasks? How frequently do you waste the time you saved? The researchers found that gen AI saved the managers about 2 hours and 46 minutes a week, on average. Eighty-two percent of them said that the technology helped them do their jobs faster. But many in that group failed to fully capitalize on their freed-up time: 38% of them admitted to wasting more than half of it. Similarly, 84% of people in the gen AI user group admitted to wasting at least a quarter of it. Few of them said they used it to connect with others, enjoy their families, learn new skills, or improve their physical and emotional health. “Rearranging time savings requires people to track when they’re saving time,” says Isabelle Engeler, an associate professor at the University of Lausanne. Only once they have a good idea of how much they’ve gained can they decide how to benefit from it, she argues. “Unfortunately,” she notes, “many people don’t immediately notice it.” To optimize (优化) AI-related time savings, Engeler suggests, managers can help employees improve work-life balance. However, any time rearrangement requires a deliberate, intentional, and ongoing approach. 28. Which word best describes generative AI in paragraph 1? A. Innovative. B. Time-saving. C. Ineffective. D. Cost-saving. 29. What do the two surveys say about AI-saved time? A. It was not fully used for meaningful activities. B. It was primarily used for personal development. C. It was effectively employed to enhance relationship. D. It was mainly arranged for improving physical health. 30. What can we know from Isabelle Engeler’s words? A People should use AI to save more time. B. People should focus on their work-life balance. C. People need to make good use of their work time. D. People need to monitor and redirect AI-saved time. 31. What is a suitable title for the text? A. The AI Efficiency Problem B. The Hidden Waste in AI Time Savings C. The Productivity Paradox of Generative AI D. The Approaches to Managing AI-related Time D People say honesty is the best policy, but we all sometimes bend the truth. The average person lies twice in the first ten minutes of meeting someone new and up to 50 percent of the time when speaking to their mother. A study showed that 99 percent of people lie, and even the few who claimed not to are probably also lying. What if, just for a day, you were incapable of telling a lie, no matter how small? According to anthropologists, there is a tribe that lives in the mountains of Central America who are unable to lie ever. The Tarahumara people, famed for their long-distance running, avoided the influence of outsiders for thousands of years. In doing so, they also maintained a strict moral principle based on utmost honesty. The Tarahumara still place this value system above all else. Some psychologists believe that over time, their emphasis on truth-telling caused changes in brains’ chemical makeup. They may have less gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for creating lies. What started as a moral duty to tell the truth may have become a physiological feature of the members of this unique tribe. So does this mean that it’s possible for all humans to evolve out of lying? Well, maybe, but it doesn’t sound very likely, does it? According to some sources, lying was first used by humans to promote cooperation and to create bonds between individuals. That’s why one of the most common types of lies is a white lie. Often white lies are told to protect someone from hearing something that will hurt their feelings. When language developed, lying quickly became easier and more common. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to lie without using any words? Language makes it possible for humans as young as two to lie. Instead of evolving out of lying, exactly the opposite is happening. As we evolve, we lie more. But there’s good news! Individually, we tell fewer lies as we age. We may not evolve out of lying as a species, but as individuals over the course of a single lifetime, there is still hope. 32. What does the first paragraph convey? A. Lying is common. B. Humans are born liars. C. Honesty is valuable. D. Lying is culture-based. 33. How has the Tarahumara’s value system influenced them according to psychologists? A. It has increased their confidence. B. It has strengthened their memory. C. It has improved their language skills. D. It has changed their brain chemistry. 34. Why did humans tell lies originally? A. For self-protection. B. For avoiding hurting others. C. For social connection. D. For taking advantage of others. 35. Which of the following may the author agree with? A. People tend to be more honest as they grow old. B. Honesty should be placed above everything else. C. Biological evolution will stop people from telling lies. D. Technological progress will make lying more difficult. 第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5分) When did we start walking for leisure? “Going for a walk” is a popular pastime among older and younger generations alike because of its well-known benefits for our physical and mental health. Her drawings of soft-eyed rabbits and sun-dappled forests had filled thousands of bedtime stories — until a car crash shattered her right wrist. The nerve damage left her hand perpetually unsteady; she could no longer sketch the fine, curved lines that had defined her work. She quit her studio, moved into her sister’s cluttered secondhand shop, and buried every trace of her old art under boxes of dusty books. She spoke to customers in monosyllables, her gaze fixed on the floor, as if hiding from the world that had once celebrated her. It was on a gray Tuesday that 14-year-old Jasper wandered in. His hoodie was too big, his backpack bulging with tattered picture books, and he lingered by the shelf of children’s literature like a shadow. “Do you have The Rabbit’s Oak?” he asked, his voice barely audible. Clara froze — that was her first book, the one she’d stopped drawing mid-final chapter after the crash. She nodded, pulling a frayed copy from the shelf. Jasper’s fingers trembled as he opened it. Taped to the inside cover was a scrap of paper: a crumpled drawing of a rabbit, done in his messy pencil strokes. “My mom used to read this to me,” he said. “She left last year, and… these pictures feel like she’s still here.” Clara glanced at the drawing — he’d copied her style, clumsy but earnest. For the first time in years, she felt a twinge of something other than numbness. A week later, Jasper returned, clutching the same book. Its final page was blank; she’d never finished the illustration of the rabbit finding its home. “Can you draw the ending?” he asked. “I keep imagining it, but… it’s not the same.” Clara stared at her right hand, which had started to shake at the mention of drawing. “I can’t,” she said, her voice sharp. “I don’t do that anymore.” Jasper’s shoulders slumped. He left the book on the counter and slipped out, his backpack dragging. Clara stared at the blank page long after the shop closed, her unsteady fingers hovering over the spine. Paragraph1:Clara stared at the half-empty page in the book, her right hand tightening around the pencil she hadn’t held in years. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph2:However, Jasper didn’t show up at the shop for three days. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 昌宁县第一中学2025-2026学年高三年级上学期期末考试 英语试卷 本试卷满分150分,考试用时120分钟。 How much do the speakers have to pay for the tickets in total? M: Well, we’re glad that the film has got positive feedback. Would you mind telling us what happened in Greece? Why did John decide to pull out of the film? W: Hmm... John got sick soon after we arrived there. He took some pills that he had brought with him. But they didn’t seem to help because he continued to look really bad and tired. When he finally went to the hospital, it turned out that he would need a couple of weeks to recover. John didn’t want to infect us with the flu. And then he went back home. M: He’s always thinking about others. 13. What is the main topic of the conversation? A. China’s history. B. China’s achievements. C. China’s industry. 14. B 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第一段“The rising acidity of Earth’s oceans could cause shark teeth to be corroded (腐蚀) and waste away.(地球海洋酸度的上升可能会导致鲨鱼牙齿被腐蚀、逐渐损坏)”以及第二段“ Though sharks constantly replace their teeth, the worsening condition of our oceans could soon damage them faster than they can be repaired.(尽管鲨鱼会不断更换牙齿,但随着我们海洋环境的不断恶化,其牙齿受损的速度可能会快于其修复的速度)”可知,未来鲨鱼牙齿受损更快的原因是海洋的酸度变得更高。 根据第四段“Around 50 of the undamaged teeth were then placed into tanks filled with water at various pHs, and kept there for eight weeks. When they were inspected at the end of the experiment, it was clear that the teeth in the acidic water had considerably more damage than the teeth in the 8.1 pH water. (研究人员将大约50颗完好的鲨鱼牙齿放入装有不同酸碱度海水的容器中,放置八周。实验结束后检查发现,酸性海水中的牙齿比酸碱度为8.1的海水中的牙齿受损程度严重得多)”可知,研究人员的实验方式是测试鲨鱼牙齿在不同水质条件下的反应。故选D。 【26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段“ The acidic water also caused the surface of the teeth to become rough (粗糙的) and irregular. While this might have helped enhance the shark’s cutting ability, it also compromised the tooth’s structure. This made them more likely to break.(酸性海水还会使鲨鱼牙齿表面变得粗糙不平。虽然这可能有助于提升鲨鱼的撕咬能力,但也compromised牙齿的结构,让牙齿更容易断裂)”可知,划线单词所在句存在转折关系,前文说酸性海水带来的一点好处,后文则说对牙齿结构的负面影响,结合“更容易断裂”的结果,可推测“compromised”的意思是“破坏、削弱”。故选A。 根据最后一段““Maintaining ocean pH near the current average of 8.1 could be critical for the physical integrity of predators’ tools,” said Baum. “It’s a reminder that climate change impacts spread through entire food webs and ecosystems.”(“保持海洋pH值接近目前的平均值8.1,对捕食者工具的物理完整性至关重,”鲍姆说。“这提醒我们,气候变化的影响会蔓延到整个食物网和生态系统。”)”可推知,鲍姆在最后一段想要传达的信息是海洋酸碱度对于海洋生物的重要性。故选C。 C Generative AI is changing how we work. A. People should use AI to save more time. The Approaches to Managing AI-related Time 【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Tools like DeepSeek and ChatGPT help people write everything from emails to blog posts 40% faster than they used to, according to a 2023 MIT study. The new technologies are transforming technical jobs in particular. A study determined that gen AI coding tools can cut programming time by 56%, for instance.(根据麻省理工学院2023年的一项研究,DeepSeek和ChatGPT等工具帮助人们写从电子邮件到博客文章的所有内容,速度比以前快40%。新技术正在改变技术工作。例如,一项研究确定,gen AI编码工具可以将编程时间缩短56%)”可知,生成式人工智能具有节省时间的特点。故选B。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“But many in that group failed to fully capitalize on their freed-up time: 38% of them admitted to wasting more than half of it. Similarly, 84% of people in the gen AI user group admitted to wasting at least a quarter of it. Few of them said they used it to connect with others, enjoy their families, learn new skills, or improve their physical and emotional health. (但这一群体中的许多人并没有充分利用节省下来的时间:38%的人承认浪费了一半以上的时间。同样,84%的人工智能用户承认自己浪费了至少四分之一的时间。他们中很少有人说他们用它来与他人联系,享受家庭,学习新技能,或改善他们的身心健康)”可知,使用人工智能节省下来的时间没有被充分用于有意义的活动。故选A。 根据第四段““Rearranging time savings requires people to track when they’re saving time,” says Isabelle Engeler, an associate professor at the University of Lausanne. Only once they have a good idea of how much they’ve gained can they decide how to benefit from it B。 D People say honesty is the best policy, but we all sometimes bend the truth. 32. A 33. D 34. C 35. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Clara stared at the half-empty page in the book, her right hand tightening around the pencil she hadn’t held in years. The trembling began, but she ignored it, focusing instead on the memory of her own rabbits — the ones with soft eyes and gentle smiles. Slowly, she began to sketch, her lines wobbly at first but gradually growing steadier. She drew the rabbit finding its oak, its branches stretching wide as if to embrace the lost creature. When she finished, she sat back, breathless, and stared at the page. It wasn’t perfect, but it was hers. However, Jasper didn’t show up at the shop for three days. Clara waited anxiously, her mind filled with doubts. Had she scared him away with her initial refusal? On the fourth day, he burst through the door, his face alight with excitement. “I saw it!” he cried, pointing to the book. “You finished it!” Clara nodded, her heart swelling. Jasper hugged the book tightly, his eyes shining. “It’s better than I imagined,” he whispered. From that day on, Clara began to draw again, not for the world, but for the boy who had reminded her that art was not just about perfection, but about connection. 词汇积累 行为类 ①专注于:focus on→concentrate on ②素描/作画:sketch/draw/paint a picture ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①焦虑地:anxiously/with anxiety/in a state of worry ②兴奋:excitement/thrill/eagerness 【点睛】【高分句型1】When she finished, she sat back, breathless, and stared at the page.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】From that day on, Clara began to draw again, not for the world, but for the boy who had reminded her that art was not just about perfection, but about connection.(运用了who引导的限制性定语从句,that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。 Look, the ticket Price for adults is forty dollars.
