Lately, a great scientific discovery surprised the world. Chinese scientists have found a new way to produce water on the Moon. This method could change our ideas about living on the Moon in the future. They wrote about their discovery in a science magazine called The Innovation. Their discovery shows that scientists can create a lot of water on the Moon by using lunar soil (月壤).
In the past, space missions to the Moon showed that there might be ice at the Moon’s north and south poles (极). However, there isn’t much water in lunar soil—only a little, like 0.0001% to 0.02%. This makes it hard to find and use water there. So it’s difficult for people to expect to live on the Moon.
The scientists found something exciting. They studied the rocks and soil from the Moon brought back by the Chang’e-5 spaceship. One of the exciting things they discovered is that lunar soil melts (融化) when it reaches over 1000℃. When it begins to melt, it produces water vapor (蒸气). They learned that just 100g of lunar soil can give us 5.1g to 7.6g of water. So, if we had one ton (吨) of lunar soil, we could get between 51kg and 76kg of water. That’s enough to give drinking water to 50 people for one day.
All in all, this research brings new chances for finding water on the Moon. It’s important for future trips to the Moon and people who might live there someday. As we learn more about how to make water from lunar soil, we get closer to the dream of humans living on the Moon. This discovery could help make that dream come true!
35. Why does the writer mention (提到) the earlier research in Paragraph 2?
A. To show that it was wrong.
B. To compare it with the new discovery.
C. To prove that there is no running water on the Moon.
D. To explain (解释) why people wanted to live on the Moon before.
36. What condition is needed for lunar soil to produce water vapor, according to the passage?
A. It needs to be mixed with ice from the Moon’s poles.
B. It needs to be brought back to Earth by a spacecraft.
C. It needs to reach a temperature over 1,000℃ and melt.
D. It needs to be stored in a special box for a few days.
37. How much water may scientists get if they have 1,000g of lunar soil?
A. B. C. D.
38. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the dream of humans living on the Moon?
A. Hopeful. B. Worried. C. Surprised. D. Uncertain.
39. What can we infer (推断) from the text?
A. Humans are the builders of the earth.
B. Mistakes often help us find the truth.
C. Humans can move to the Moon immediately.
D. Scientific discoveries are always moving forward.

“Before”表示“在……
根据“spend a long time”可知,此处考查“spend+时间+doing sth.”
根据“the fisherman felt that the child was cute”和“he offered him some fish”可知,前后句为因果关系,前因后果,应用because“因为”引导原因状语从句。
根据“Why not want the fish?”
根据“I can go fishing by”可知,此处表示“我自己去钓鱼”,应用反身代词myself“我自己”。
根据语境可知,此处表示“如何钓鱼”,“how to do sth.”
根据上文“I think if he doesn’t know...to fish, he can’t have fish to eat, even though he has the fishing rod.”

One of the exciting things they discovered is that lunar soil melts (融化) when it reaches over 1,000℃.

In March 2025, an active American streamer (主播) named IShowSpeed visited China. Known as “Jiakang Ge” by Chinese fans due to his wild expressions, he explored eight cities, including Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu. His goal? To show his 37 million fans the real modern China through live streams.
Speed’s journey was full of surprises. In Shanghai, he sang Chinese songs with fans on the street, laughing as they taught him lyrics (歌词). On a high-speed train speeding at 350 km/h, he was amazed that the Internet stayed strong even in tunnels—something he didn’t see before! Watching villages and mountains fly by through the window, he was surprised at China’s development. At the Great Wall, he did backflips (后空翻) to celebrate, shouting “This is history!” to his camera. He tried kung fu in Shaolin Temple.
But his trip was more than fun. Through his uncut livestreams, international watchers saw China’s clean streets, different kinds of food and friendly people. Many said, “China is safer and more modern than I thought!” Speed’s journey became a bridge between cultures, proving that real experiences can tell the truth.
