第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Just as slang words, table manners, and other common customs vary greatly from place to place, so do rude gestures. The last thing you want to do when traveling to a new place is to offend (冒犯) the locals. Here are some hand motions you'll want to be careful about making.
Iran
What might seem like a universally positive gesture to Americans is not, in fact, universal. “Unfortunately, in Iran and neighboring countries, the thumbs-up is the same as the middle finger!” explains Dana Hooshmand, an author for Discover Discomfort. In America, the middle finger is the one showing disrespect; in Iran, it's the thumb. So, bear in mind that you should avoid making this sign to Iranians.
Malaysia
As a little kid, you might have been blamed for pointing with your index finger, especially if you dared to pair the gesture with laughter. This is especially true in Malaysia. As a result, employees at Disney parks are trained to avoid doing this. Instead, if they must, they use two fingers or, the common alternative is to point with your thumb (particularly the right thumb).
Thailand
In the USA, patting someone's head can be a sweet gesture, and messing someone's hair is a playful one. But in Thailand, they can be a serious insult. The head is considered “the most sacred(神圣的) part of the body”. So keep your hands away from others' heads to avoid disrespect.
Taiwan,China
According to the locals, pointing to the moon will offend the moon goddess. Her punishment for this is very specific: She'll cut your ear off, or at the very least cut it in Van Gogh-style. So if you're admiring a beautiful full moon in Taiwan, China, try your best to keep your hands by your sides.
21.What is the common reason for paying attention to gestures in different places?
A.Out of admiration. B.Out of curiosity.
C.Out of concern. D.Out of respect.
22.According to the article, which of the following can visitors do?
A.Touch someone's head in Thailand.
B.Point with the index finger in Malaysia.
C.Make a thumbs-up to others in the USA.
D.Aim one finger directly at the moon in Taiwan, China.
23.Where is this text probably taken from?
A.A travel magazine. B.A novel.
C.A biography. D.A science report.
B
For much of my childhood, my mother filled in the evening hours doing something for someone else. Sometimes she knitted(编织) hats for babies, and at other times, she cooked chicken soup for sick neighbors. Therefore, I wasn't surprised when one evening my mother announced that she had undertaken a new project.
“I am going to telephone seniors,” said my mother. “Every night? But you don't even know these people.” “It doesn't matter,” she said. “What's important is that I listen.” I was sixteen years old and couldn't understand why my mother was willing to spend her evenings talking to strangers. She had friends and my two older sisters to call if she felt lonely. “They will talk your ear off. Some people even won't stop to catch their breath,” I said.
My attitude didn't decrease my mother's enthusiasm for the project. That evening, she settled on the sofa and dialed. For a while, I listened as she asked the woman on the line about her day and what she had eaten for dinner. When she finished the call, I said, “Why did you care whether she had cookies or rice pudding for dessert?” My mother grasped one of my hands and gave it a slight squeeze, “I'm the only person she talked to today.”
It took me more than thirty years to fully understand the meaning of that statement. Now, as my mother is nearing eighty, I find myself thinking of those nightly calls she used to make. I am often the only person who telephones my mother, and sometimes I'm the only person she speaks to all day. I ask her what she cooked for dinner, but mostly I just listen as she describes a walk she took, or how her dog Lucky stole food from the refrigerator. I realize that my mother's calls were lifelines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty.
24.Why did the author's mother call the seniors?
A.To make them feel less lonely.
B.To introduce friends to them.
C.To know what they cook for dinner.
D.To teach them how to make dessert.
25.Why did the author change his/her attitude towards his/her mother's calls?
A.The author is becoming older.
B.The author's mother is becoming older.
C.The author started to do the same thing.
D.The author found that what his/her mother did was worthwhile.
26.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author is going to be eighty years old.
B.The author thinks highly of his/her mother's calls.
C.The author's mother prefers to live alone at an old age.
D.The author's dog likes stealing food from the refrigerator.
27.What is the suitable title for the passage?
A.A new project B.Mother's evenings
C.Call your parents often D.Nightly calls, lifelines
C
The term parasocial interaction(准社会互动) was introduced by the social scientists Donald Horton and R. Richard Wohl in the 1950s. It was the early days of home televisions, and they saw people form a close connection with actors who were appearing virtually in their home. Today, the definition is much broader. After all, actors, singers, comedians, athletes, and countless other celebrities are available to us in more ways than ever before. Forming parasocial bonds has never been easier.
Psychologists document cases of parasocial relationships that can go much deeper, with severe consequences. Scholars note parasocial bonds range from casual talks about stars to intense emotions, to uncontrollable behavior and fantasies. At the deepest level, the parasocial relationship can be dangerous, such as when a fan loses touch with reality and secretly follows a star. It can also lead to confusion about one's own identity, particularly in adolescents who are still forming their sense of self, as they may model themselves on the media figures with whom they have parasocial relationships.
In 2021, two psychologists from York University, in Canada, found that forming parasocial bonds was strongly related to avoidant attachment. That is, people who tended to push others away in their day-to-day lives were more likely to relate to fictional characters. You can easily see how parasocial relationships become a replacement when one finds real-life attachment difficult. This could start a feedback cycle, in which avoiding close relationships stimulates parasocial bonding, which in turn leads to reduced interactions with real-life family and friends as the fans spend their time and energy on someone who doesn't know they exist.
My purpose here is not to say that parasocial interactions are always bad for you, or even abnormal. Rather, it is to suggest that heavy parasocial bonding might be a signal that you are crowding out the real people who can give you the love you truly need. One way to address this is to put some more distance between yourself and your fictional friends, thus pausing the feedback cycle and giving yourself more space to pursue in-person connections.
28.How has parasocial interaction changed according to paragraph 1?
A.It has become more common.
B.It has affected more celebrities.
C.It has lost much of its significance.
D.It has turned into a two-way process.
29.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Reasons behind celebrity following.
B.Origins of dangerous relationships.
C.Different types of parasocial relationships.
D.Potential harm of parasocial relationships.
30.Which of the following can lead to parasocial relationships?
A.Socializing with strangers.
B.Having strong family support.
C.Participating in group activities.
D.Struggling with relationships in reality.
31.What does the author suggest to those with heavy parasocial relationships?
A.Meeting fictional friends in real life.
B.Seeking guidance from professionals.
C.Hanging out more with real friends.
D.Creating more space for being alone.
D
Sometimes, when Mr. Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager. “I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?'” says Ballmer. “There was just a complete gap in taste.” Music was not the onlygulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits(轨道).
Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families. Conversations about subjects such as pop culture and sex would not have taken place a generation ago. Now they are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood.
But experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents. “There's still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College. “In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.”
Researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point. Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic(民主的) process that encourages everyone to have a say. “It's not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now,” explains Mr. Ballmer.
32.What does the underlined word “gulf” mean in the first paragraph?
A.Balance. B.Difference.
C.Argument. D.Achievement.
33.What is the change in today's parent-child relationship?
A.There are few parent-child activities.
B.There is more respect for parents from children.
C.There is new equality between parents and children.
D.There is more strictness and authority on the part of parents.
34.Which word best describes Kerrie's attitude to the change of the parent-child relationship?
A.Interested. B.Supportive.
C.Indifferent. D.Concerned.
35.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To solve the problem of the parent-child relationship.
B.To describe the difficulties today's parents have met with.
C.To suggest the ways to handle the parent-child relationship.
D.To discuss the development of the parent-child relationship.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Imagine you are talking with a friend. Your friend tells you that he has a big test or job interview coming up soon. 36 But how do you do this?
Social situations give us many chances to wish other people well. Such wishes can come in the form of sentence fragments(片段) or complete sentences. A fragment is a kind of incomplete sentence—it is missing part of the sentence. In general, fragments that wish other people well are missing the subject(主语) or predicate(谓语).
Consider, for example, the phrase “good luck”, which is used to say that you hope someone will succeed. But the phrase suggests something more. 37
In any case, English speakers often just use the phrase “good luck”. So, a person might say, “Good luck with the job interview!” In terms of complete sentences, English speakers often use words such as “wish” or “hope”. For example, a person might say, “I hope the job interview goes well tomorrow.” or “ 38 ”
English speakers also use complete sentences to express trust in another person. Such expressions are another way to show kindness or warmth to other people. For example, a person might say, “I know you are worried about the test tomorrow. 39 ” or “The job interview will be easy. You're going to do great!”
40 There are, of course, many other ways to do so. The next time you are listening to English speakers, pay careful attention to how they wish each other well. Take careful note of the kinds of words and phrases that they use.
A.Good luck with your language learning.
B.This is a good time to wish him well.
C.But I also know you are prepared for the challenge.
D.It suggests something like this: “I wish you good luck.”
E.Today we've explored a few ways to wish others well.
F.I wish you the best of luck with your job interview tomorrow.
G.Ask yourself if they are using fragments or complete sentences.

As the fifth of seven children, I went to the same public school as my three older sisters and brother. Every year, my mother went to the same school and had interviews with the same teachers. The only difference was the child. And every child participated in an old school tradition—the annual plant sale held in early May, just in time for Mother's Day.
Third grade was the first time that I was allowed to take part in the plant sale. I wanted to surprise my mother, but I didn't have any money. I went to my oldest sister and shared the secret, and she gave me some money. When I arrived at the plant sale, I carefully made my selection, inspecting each plant to ensure that I had indeed found the best geranium. It actually took me a long time to make the final selection. Once I had secretly took it home, with the help of my sister, I hid it on the upstairs neighbor's porch. I was very afraid that my mother would find it before Mother's Day, but my sister assured me that she wouldn't, and indeed she did not.
When Mother's Day arrived, I was bursting with pride when I gave her that geranium. Her eyes were bright and she was delighted with my gift. What I didn't realize was that Mum had known my secret long before.
When I was fifteen, my younger sister reached third grade. In early May she came to me full of wonder and secrecy and told me that there was going to be a plant sale at school, and she wanted to surprise our mother. Like my older sister did for me, I gave her some money and she went off.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
She arrived at home full of nervous excitement, the geranium hidden under her sweater.
When she noticed me watching them, Mum gave me a gentle and secret smile.

39.C 细节句。根据本段首句“English speakers also use complete sentences to express trust in another person.”可知,完整的句子也可用来表达对他人的信任。再根据空前的“For example, a person might say”和空后的“or ‘The job interview will be easy. You're going to do great!’”可知,这里是举例说明如何用完整的句子表达对他人的信任,设空处与空前的“I know you are worried about the test tomorrow.”组成一个例子,空后是另一个例子。C项(但我也知道你准备好迎接挑战了。)正是用完整的句子表达了对他人的信任,与上下文内容一致。故选C。
40.E 主旨句。根据空后的“There are, of course, many other ways to do so.”中的“many other ways”可知,设空处应提到“do so”的一些方法,与“many other ways”对应。E项(今天我们探讨了一些祝他人好运的方法。)是对全文内容的总结,与上下文内容一致。故选E。

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
How to get along well with your parents
As you are growing up, you may want to be free from your parents. Sometimes you may have conflicts with your parents, and feel deeply regretful later.
If you want to prevent such moments from happening, you should follow these steps. Firstly, you should communicate with them and ask for their advice before taking certain action. Secondly, if you disagree with your parents about something, you should stay cool and consider it carefully. What's more, you'd better spend more time with them, such as having a picnic with them. By doing these, your family bond will be stronger.
Once you follow these steps, I'm sure that it will be easy for you to get along well with your parents.
第二节
One possible version:
She arrived at home full of nervous excitement, the geranium hidden under her sweater.“I looked at every plant carefully before I get this best one!” she explained. With a sweet sense of affection, I helped her hide that geranium on the upstairs neighbor's porch, assuring her that our mother would not find it. On Mother's Day I was there when she gave Mum the geranium, and I watched them both bursting with pride and delight. It was like being in a dream I had already dreamed.
When she noticed me watching them, Mum gave me a gentle and secret smile. Should I tell my younger sister that Mum had been aware of her secret of the geranium on the porch? With a tug at my heart, I smiled back. I had been wondering how my mother could pretend to be surprised at this gift from her sixth child, but when she was presented with that most precious gift, I watched her eyes light up with delight and I knew she was not pretending. How blessed we were with so many geraniums of love!

W: Have you talked to him about that?
M: Yes, but he just doesn’t take me seriously.
W: I see, here is what we can do. Let me talk to David and then you see how it goes in just one week.

M: Maybe you should ask Mr Wyatt. He knows a lot about the book industry.
W: Good idea! I always loved his English classes. He’s the reason that I started writing!
M: I’d like to read your book sometime though. How long is it? I usually just read books that are less than 200 pages. Remember that book Ulysses which we read in Mr Wyatt’s class? That is over 700 pages!
W: Oh yeah, that took forever to read. My book is not as thick as that. It’s probably about half that long. I won’t have an actually printed book to give you, at least in a few more months. The only things I have are computer files and my handwritten copies.
M: Can you just give me a computer file?
W: Yes. I’ll do that right away. Please give me your honest opinion after you finish reading it. It is the only way I can get better.

M: A new era of artificial intelligence is coming. AI has made its way into a variety of industries, which benefits both businesses and consumers. More and more companies have used it in their products, such as AlphaGo, self-driving cars, facial recognition, online assistants and so on. Generally, there are two types of AI: weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI is an AI system that is designed and trained to complete a specific task. For example, Apple’s Siri can answer people’s simple questions and obey a programmed order. But it can’t work without humans. Strong AI differs from weak AI in this respect most. Strong AI can solve problems and find solutions without humans, such as the self-driving car. It can control a vehicle without human involvement, and avoid unexpected obstacles, such as passers-by. As a whole, AI can make human life easy and convenient, and many experts believe the future of AI is bright. But it is expensive and requires complex systems to operate. There are still many problems to solve, such as…
