To most of us,school means classes, teachers, schedules, grades and tests. But for the children at Sudbury
Valley School,Massachusetts,school is very different.
Firstly, there are no lessons. All the children, aged between 4 and 19,do whatever they want to.There are no
teachers-only "staff members".The idea behind this is that you do not need to make children learn, because
children want to learn anyway."You do not need to say to a three-year-old,'Go to explore your environment.'You
can't stop them!"says Daniel Greenberg,a founder of the school "But if you make children do what you want all
day, they will lose all taste for learning."
At Sudbury Valley School, you will allow children to talk, read, paint, cook, work on computers, study
French, play the piano, climb trees,or just run around. Two boys spent three years just fishing!
The other way that Sudbury Valley School is different is that the children can decide the rules.Every week,
there is a school meeting where both children and staff have one vote each-even the four-year-olds.They decide
the school rules, how to spend the school budget, and even which staff they want and do not want any more.
When the school first opened in 1968,people said it would never work. But today, the school has 200
students, and 80%of its students go on to college.Even the two boys who went fishing all the time have
successful careers today. One of them is a musician and the other is a computer scientist.
24.What is the main topic of the article?
A.An unusual school.
B.Children's hobbies.
C.A school without rules.
D.Education in the US.
25.What does the school believe?
A.Teachers cannot teach children well.
B.Children learn best when they do what they want to do.
C.Learning is for adults-children should only play.
D.Children should only learn about one thing at a time.

Being a teenager can be hard, for you have to face a lot of difficult problems, but a new program called
Nfusion is working hard to help teens with mental ()health needs.Nfusion gives teenagers classes where
they study or discuss some troubling subjects.Drugs and bullying (are just a few of the topics that are
discussed during the class on Saturday.
"I had a bad attitude,"said 17-year-old Titeana Davis.Davis went through the Nfusion Program last year. The
teen, who once had trouble with her attitude towards others, says the program has changed her life.
"They taught me that a bad attitude is not going to get you anywhere. It doesn't matter if other people treat
you wrong;you still treat them how you want to be treated and it helped me a lot,"said Davis.
Nfusion is a new program that meets teens'mental health needs and provides help for their families. The
program is designed to help teens aged between 14 and 21 live through a difficult period.
"They're still growing, still developing and still there are a lot of things they don't know how to address. So
this is a good program for them to be a part of,"said Lakicha Jemigan, who worked for the Nfusion Program.
Teens like Davis are just a few who have come through the program successfully. Now,thanks to Nfusion,
Davis says she's looking forward to a bright future."After I graduate from college,I want to work at a primary
school and I want to be a second-grade teacher,"added Davis.

As is known to us all, reading books is good for children. Now,a new study suggests that just being around
books has its benefits.A team of researchers in Australia finds that growing up with a large library at home

improves literacy(读写能力),number-sense,,and even technological skills in later life.It appeared in Social
Science Research.
The researchers were exploring the advantages of scholarly culture. They were interested in an extra finding
that some call the"radiation effect"."The radiation effect is a situation where children grow up around books, but
they don't read books. But somehow books benefit them, even though they don't read them as much as their
parents wish them to,"said Joanna Sikora,a scientist in Australia.Joanna and her workmates studied information
collected between 2021 and 2025 by the Organization for Economic Development. The survey tested the literacy,
numeracy and technological abilities of more than 160,000 adults from 31 countries. And it included a question
about how many books participants(参与者)had in their homes during adolescence(青春期).What we were
able to make clear was that people growing up around books had better literacy, numeracy and technological
problem-solving skills than people who had fewer books growing up but had similar education levels, similar jobs,
and even similar adult habits in connection with reading or working at numeracy-improving activities,"she said.
In fact, teens who only made it through high school but were raised in a bookish environment did as well in
adulthood as college graduates who grew up in a house without books. Now,how might a simple display lead to
intellectual improvement?"If we grow up in a house,in a home where parents enjoy books, where books
are given as birthday presents and valued, this is something that becomes a wealth of knowledge and gives us this
lifelong driving force to always come close to books and read more than we would."
So keep shelves filled with books.Your kids will not only be grateful, they'll be more likely to be able to
spell"grateful"'correctly as well.
32.What's"the radiation effect'according to the text?
A.The terrible influence of radiation on men and things
B.The beneficial influence of reading books on adolescents.
C.The good influence of the bookish environment on adolescents.
D.The negative influence of giving teens birthday presents which are not valued
33.What can we learn about the participants from Paragraph 2?
A.They all graduated from college.
B.They had only one answer to the survey.
C.They had all been to a sizable library at least once.
D.They were brought up in different growth environments.
34.How does the display of books improve intellect?
A.Books help to provide a chance to come close to society.
B.Books will offer teens a drive to make great achievements.
C.Books are always given to adolescents as valuable presents.
D.Books bring a sense of being rich in knowledge and longing to read more.
35.What's the best title for the text?
A.Reading More Helps Improve Children's Abilities
B.Growing Up Around Books Benefits Children a Lot

How Can I Fight Laziness?
Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have
been made in your mind.
36 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for
work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home.Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of
motivation and a tendency to put off things.By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of
meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as
if they were pushed from task to task.Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they
must overcome alone.37
Some people fight laziness removing the temptations that surround them.A television in the living room may
provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness.38 Complete a few tasks
and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home.Couples and children may all have different energy levels,
but laziness can be spread if not deal with immediately.39 Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a
meal.Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task.It is difficult to practice
laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.
40 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you
to have more energy and help lift your spirits.
A.To fight family laziness, set an example.
B.Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
C.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep
D.Finally, taking exercise regularly and eating healthily can help you fight laziness.
E.With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.
F.Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.
G.Laziness appears when you no longer feel in control of your own mind.

and after breakfast, she left for school.
Sara was confident about her preparations as she had studied the whole weekend, but a bit nervous like
everyone during the exam time.
On the other hand,Vivian didn't make preparations for her exams and was careless as ever. She had spent the
whole weekend with her family at the beach. She really had fun and so she was excited to tell this to her friends.
That day also,Vivian got up late and therefore did everything in a hurry. She rushed to the school to get a seat
beside Sara or any other good student in the class so that she could ask them to show her the answer sheet()
Luckily, she found an empty chair beside Sara in the examination room.
She gave a smile to Sara and asked in a low voice if she could show her the answer sheet. To her surprise,Sara
refused at once.Vivian was very surprised because she hadn't expected that.
When the exam started,Vivian tried to peek (at Sara's paper while Sara kept hiding her answers. But it
was impossible for Sara to keep hiding answers while still writing, thus forgetting her peeking friend. She completed
her paper and left the examination room.
Vivian copied almost all the answers from Sara and was expecting good grades.Sara didn't like Vivian's
attitude and was angry with her.She didn't speak to her after that.
