Benjamin Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Apart 1 being a successful statesman, he was also a 2 (create) scientist and inventor.
Benjamin Franklin 3 (fly) a kite during a storm in 1752. He raised the kite with a piece of string 4 (tie) to it. A metal key was attached to the string. A flash of lightning hit the kite, and electricity was conducted through the string to the key. Franklin then touched the key and got 5 electric shock.
Generations of schoolchildren have been amazed by his 6 (brave) and his scientific approach to 7 (look) for the truth. However, new research suggests that the story may be fiction instead of a fact.
Not only does the use of plastic water bottles hurt your wallet, but it also causes pollution, wastes energy, and surprisingly wastes water. Only 23% of the plastic in America ends up in recycling bins, meaning over $1 billion worth of plastic is treated as rubbish a year. Recently, Skipping Rocks Lab has invented a kind of water bottle called Ooho.
It's a kind of convenient, clear water bottle that can either be drunk or eaten. To drink it, you can either get rid of the membrane(膜) or tear a hole in the membrane with your teeth to pour the water into your mouth. To eat it, you simply put the whole bottle in your mouth. It's completely tasteless so you needn't worry about any taste. In addition, it is flexible and capable of withstanding minor pressure without breaking.
Ooho is designed for large outdoor events where a large number of plastic bottles are used and frequently left behind as litter. Too much plastic is sure to do harm to the environment, which could account for the purpose of such a new invention.
The team has been working for the past two years to develop the technology and materials that are needed to produce Ooho. The price for an only bubble(泡状物) or a unit of bubbles has not been decided yet, but it costs about two cents to create a unit, which is cheaper than plastic bottles. The team has also been selling Ooho water bottles in London for the past six months.
Ooho is catching many people's attention and has raised over $1 million in only three days. It's mostly being sold at events at the moment to interest the buyers while the production machine is starting up and running. With its extraordinary potential, Ooho is quickly making a rise, so keep an eye out for the future of these bottles.
1.How is most plastic in America dealt with?

Robotic dogs are expected to help transport waste on Mount Tai in Tai'an, Shandong Province. They combine advanced technology with environmental protection to address the growing waste management challenges. Mount Tai is a popular tourist destination.
As hikers climbed Mount Tai, they were attracted by a robotic dog. 1 During the climb, the robotic dog broadcast messages encouraging visitors to protect the mountain's environment. It brings a touch of delight to the tired hikers.
Mount Tai, a World Heritage-Mixed Property site, welcomed over 8 million tourists last year. The complex terrain(地形) makes waste transportation more difficult. 2 Then it believes that employing robotic assistants for transportation is a brilliant choice.
3 The robotic dogs, capable of carrying items weighing 30 to 40 kilograms, were tested for adaptability, climbing ability, load-bearing capacity and emergency action on the mountain's challenging terrain. Results showed they could reach the summit in two hours, while the average time for adult tourists not carrying a heavy load is around four hours. The robots can operate for four to six hours on a full charge.
During the tests, the robotic dogs adapted to over 80 percent of the mountain's terrain. 4 They became a unique attraction, with many tourists stopping to shoot photos with these lovely assistants.
“ 5 It's truly amazing,” said Wang Yang, a tourist from Heilongjiang Province. “It would be more unbelievable if it could carry people up the mountain in the future.”
A.I had an idea how it was working so well.
B.I saw it climbing and took a photo with it.

Mary and her little son Andy lived alone and led a hard life. They didn't have much, but there was always food on the table—for Andy, at least.
To support the family, Mary did three jobs. It was tiring, but Mary didn't give up. Each day when she finally got home, she'd bring Andy home from a kind neighbor, who attended to her boy for hours daily.
Years later when Andy was 15, Mary was still working hard. One morning she crazily looked for the house keys, worried about getting late for work. She had a long day ahead, but she didn't even make it to her house's front door. She tried to move the sofa to see if the keys had fallen behind it. At the time, Andy was preparing to go to school.
Suddenly, Mary fell due to long-term lack of sleep. And when she fell, her head hit the sofa's edge, which caused her to faint immediately. So worried, Andy did everything he could to help his mom. Finally, he took her to hospital.
Hours later, Mary woke up, noticing Andy's hand on her shoulder. A doctor brought her document for her to read. She soon knew why she was in hospital. And she knew the fall had reduced her sense of hearing to 20%. Mary couldn't help crying. “What am I going to do now?” she thought as she looked at Andy. With tears in eyes, Andy said, “I love you, Mom!” And it saddened them both again because Mary could barely hear Andy's words.
The doctor recommended wearing a hearing aid. It was a very expensive device. “Who has that kind of money?” Mary thought, feeling upset and hopeless.
But Andy wasn't. “Mom has taken good care of me for years. It's high time that I did something to try to repay her,” Andy thought. He was determined to take a part-time job to earn the money for the hearing aid. Since his academic performance was very good, he decided to work as a tutor for junior kids.
First,he made advertisements.
One morning when Mary was still sleeping soundly,Andy put the hearing aid in her ear.

【高频词汇】 1.rubbish/litter n.
2.withstand v.抵御 3.be designed for被设计用于……
4.make a rise迅速崛起,获得关注 5.keep an eye out for留意,关注 6.have an advantage over 有胜过……
根据第一段中“Only 23% of the plastic in America ends up in recycling bins, meaning over $1 billion worth of plastic is treated as rubbish a year.”
根据第二段中“It's a kind of convenient, clear water bottle that can either be drunk or eaten.”
作者在最后一段中使用“extraordinary potential”“quickly making a rise”“keep an eye out for the future of these bottles”等表述,强调Ooho的潜力和发展趋势,态度明显为积极的(Positive)。故选A。
此外,根据第一段中“Not only does the use of plastic water bottles hurt your wallet, but it also causes pollution, wastes energy, and surprisingly wastes water.”
播送,播放 3.a touch of delight 一丝愉悦 4.adaptability n.
7.promising adj.有前景的 8.under the control of 在……
空后的it指代C项中的“The government”。
