However, life led me down a different path. I went to law school, but I quickly realized my heart wasn’t in it. I dropped out by Thanksgiving. Later, inspired by a scientist teaching a chimp named Sarah to communicate, I volunteered in his lab. There, I met Sarah, lonely and unhappy. I felt a strong urge to connect with her. I held out my finger and said, “Turn around, and I’ll scratch (挠) your back.” Sarah surprisingly turned, allowing me to scratch her back through the bars. This moment made me reflect on Jane Goodall’s spirit and the chimps’ well-being. Soon after, I discovered my life’s mission: humane education. Unknown to me then, Jane Goodall herself was also shifting from scientific research to humane education. She realized the best way to protect chimps and ecosystems was through teaching. She founded Roots and Shoots, a global program that has inspired millions of children to act for a better world. Jane devoted the last half-century of her life to tirelessly teaching about building a humane, peaceful world. She became the most famous and respected humane educator globally, spreading a message of kindness through action. I was fortunate to meet Jane a few times and even speak alongside her. It was a great honor when she wrote the foreword for my book, significantly boosting its reach. The world has lost one of its best, an incredible supporter for animals and a groundbreaking advocate for humane education. Yet, Jane left us everything needed for us to carry on her legacy (遗产) . Jane once wrote: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Millions have been touched by her. If Jane Goodall impacted you, I hope you will consider what kind of difference you want to make, and then go make that difference. 24.Why did the author leave law school? A.She found the courses too difficult. B.She received an invitation from a lab. C.She lacked interest in being a lawyer. D.She was inspired by Jane Goodall then. 25.What did the author’s interaction with Sarah reveal? A.It awakened her true life calling. B.Sarah misunderstood human language. C.Animal research requires improvement. D.Chimps have a complex language system. 26.What does the author think of Jane Goodall’s legacy? A.Demanding. B.Instructive. C.Satisfying. D.Worthless. 27.What is the main purpose of the text? A.To honor a pioneer and call for action. B.To compare two different career paths. C.To explain the method of humane education. D.To describe the intelligence of chimpanzees. 【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第一段“I went to law school, but I quickly realized my heart wasn’t in it.(我进入了法学院,但很快意识到自己并不真心热爱法律。)” 根据第二段“This moment made me reflect on Jane Goodall’s spirit and the chimps’ well-being. Soon after, I discovered my life’s mission: humane education.(那一刻,我回想起简·古道尔的精神,以及黑猩猩的福祉问题。不久后,我找到了自己的人生使命:人道主义教育。)”可知,这次互动唤醒了她真正的人生使命。故选A。 26. 根据最后一段“Jane once wrote: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Millions have been touched by her.(简曾写道:“你无法度过一天而不对周围的世界产生影响。你的所作所为都会带来改变,而你必须决定自己想要创造怎样的改变。”她感动了无数人。)”可知,古道尔的话强调行动带来希望,影响世界,这表明作者认为古道尔的遗产是有教育意义的。故选B。 27.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第三段“Unknown to me then, Jane Goodall herself was also shifting from scientific research to humane education. She realized the best way to protect chimps and ecosystems was through teaching. She founded Roots and Shoots, a global program that has inspired millions of children to act for a better world. Jane devoted the last half-century of her life to tirelessly teaching about building a humane, peaceful world. She became the most famous and respected humane educator globally, spreading a message of kindness through action.(当时的我并不知道,简·古道尔本人也正从科学研究转向人道主义教育。她意识到,保护黑猩猩和生态系统的最佳途径是通过教育。于是,她创立了“根与芽”(Roots and Shoots)这一全球性项目,激励了数百万儿童为创造更美好的世界而行动。简将生命的后半世纪都奉献给了不遗余力地宣扬构建一个充满人性与和平的世界。她成为全球最著名、最受尊敬的人道主义教育者,用行动传递着仁爱的信息。)”和倒数第二段“I was fortunate to meet Jane a few times and even speak alongside her. It was a great honor when she wrote the foreword for my book, significantly boosting its reach.(我有幸与简见过几次面,甚至还与她一起发表过演讲。当她为我的书撰写序言时,这对我来说是一份极大的荣誉,也极大地提升了这本书的影响力。)”可知,本文叙述作者个人经历和珍·古道尔的生平和影响,旨在向这位先驱致敬,由最后一段“If Jane Goodall impacted you, I hope you will consider what kind of difference you want to make, and then go make that difference.(如果简·古道尔曾影响过你,我希望你能思考自己想要创造怎样的改变,然后就去实现它。)” A。 C Urbanization in Canada is rapidly consuming wildlife habitats. This development not only destroys habitats but also fragments (分裂) them, creating isolated patches that disturb migration and threaten animal populations. Wildlife scientists are studying how animals adapt to these changes, with some species showing remarkable adaptation while others struggle. The key impacts of urbanization on wildlife, according to John Wilmshurst from the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF), include habitat loss, fragmentation, movement barriers like roads and fences, and increased human-wildlife conflicts. Despite these challenges, urban areas offer abundant food sources for wildlife. Studies on wildlife urbanization raise questions about whether animal behaviors are changing due to habitat loss and the impact of climate change on their environments. Wilmshurst points out that it’s difficult to track species negatively influenced by urbanization, as they often disappear. However, GPS tracking has helped researchers observe how sensitive animals are to urban infrastructure Some animals, like wolves, avoid people and built-up areas, changing their behaviors to keep clear of urban environments. Others, like bobcats, adapt well to urban life, with some species even passing on these behaviors to their young. Birds have been known to change their song pitches (音高) to adapt to urban soundscapes. Understanding impact of habitat fragmentation is complex, but Wilmshurst suggests that well-placed landscape management can reduce some negative impacts. This includes changing fences and creating wildlife passages on roads to support animal conservation. People are also adapting to the presence of wildlife in cities, planting pollinator gardens and diversifying their yards with native plants. Changes in bylaws and building codes, such as keeping cats indoors and reducing bird strikes with glass windows, reflect a growing effort to maintain a connection with nature in urban environments. The CWF believes that maintaining this connection is crucial for our increasingly urban population. Public policies that help people safely coexist with wildlife in their neighborhoods can improve urban life and support conservation efforts, showing that both humans and wildlife can adapt to the challenges of urbanization. 28.Why is it challenging to study species affected by urbanization according to Wilmshurst? A.They often migrate to remote areas. B.They tend to disappear from the area. C.They change their behaviors too quickly. D.They become overly aggressive and dangerous. 29.What is the purpose of mentioning birds changing their song pitches in paragraph 4? A.To show animals’ behavioral adaptation. B.To criticize the severe noise pollution. C.To argue that birds suffer the most. D.To explain why birds leave cities. 30.How can people maintain the connection with nature? A.By wisely balancing plants and animals. B.By further studying habitat fragmentation. C.By combining official and civilian efforts. D.By returning urban habitats to the wildlife. 31.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.The Disappearing Wild Animals in Canada B.How GPS Tracks Wildlife in Canadian Cities C.The Primary Threat of Urbanization to Wildlife D.Wildlife and Human Adaptation to Urbanization 【答案】28.B 29.A 30.C 31.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第三段“Wilmshurst points out that it’s difficult to track species negatively influenced by urbanization, as they often disappear. (Wilmshurst指出,很难追踪受到城市化负面影响的物种,因为它们往往会消失)”可知,研究受城市化影响的物种具有挑战性是因为它们往往会从该地区消失。故选B项。 29.推理判断题。根据第四段“Others, like bobcats, adapt well to urban life, with some species even passing on these behaviors to their young. Birds have been known to change their song pitches (音高) to adapt to urban soundscapes.(其他的,如山猫,能很好地适应城市生活,有些物种甚至将这些行为传给它们的幼崽。众所周知,鸟类会改变它们的歌声音高以适应城市声景)”可知,提到鸟类改变歌声音高是为了展示动物的行为适应。故选A项。 30. 根据倒数第二段“People are also adapting to the presence of wildlife in cities, planting pollinator gardens and diversifying their yards with native plants. Changes in bylaws and building codes, such as keeping cats indoors and reducing bird strikes with glass windows, reflect a growing effort to maintain a connection with nature in urban environments.(人们也在适应城市中野生动物的存在,种植传粉花园,用本地植物丰富他们的院子。地方法规和建筑规范的改变,如把猫关在室内,减少玻璃窗对鸟类的撞击,反映了在城市环境中保持与自然联系的日益增长的努力)”以及最后一段“Public policies that help people safely coexist with wildlife in their neighborhoods can improve urban life and support conservation efforts, showing that both humans and wildlife can adapt to the challenges of urbanization.(帮助人们与社区中的野生动物安全共存的公共政策可以改善城市生活,支持保护工作,表明人类和野生动物都能适应城市化的挑战)”可知,人们可以通过官方和民众的努力来保持与自然的联系。故选C项。 31. D We often hear the same advice from parents, teachers and self-help books: “Think positive, and everything will get better.” For years, I guided my students and friends with this idea. I told them that a positive mind is the key to solving life’s difficulties and that they should never give in to negative feelings. I truly believed that positive thinking could magically fix any problem. Then I started to dig deeper into this so-called “positive thinking culture” as a psychologist. I studied different social groups and interviewed hundreds of people about how they dealt with stress and failure. What I discovered completely changed my mind. Many people nowadays treat positive thinking as a necessary life skill. Especially in difficult times, people are told to focus only on the bright side and avoid sad or angry thoughts. Supporters argue that positive thinking builds confidence, reduces stress, and helps people move on quickly from hard experiences. It has become such a popular idea that we seldom question whether it actually works for everyone. However, my research shows that forcing positivity often does more harm than good. It can exacerbate people’s mental stress and deepen feelings of loneliness. When people are told to “just cheer up” during serious difficulties, they may hide their true feelings and refuse to seek help. Worse still, this culture unfairly blames the victims. If someone remains sad or fails to improve, society often thinks it is their own fault for “not being positive enough”. This creates hidden unfairness toward people who are already struggling in life. What’s more, the “positive thinking only” culture benefits certain groups more. Companies and social media influencers often promote this idea because it makes people accept their difficulties passively instead of asking for real changes. Workers who keep “thinking positive” may silently stand low pay and heavy work without complaining. In this way, the blind positivity that is widely celebrated actually serves the needs of those in power. 32.What did the author advise people to do for years? A.Develop life skills actively. B.Focus on positive thinking. C.Solve problems independently. D.Ask for help when feeling down. 33.How did the author feel after his research on positive thinking? A.Doubtful about further study. B.Satisfied with its wide influence. C.Surprised by its hidden harm. D.Confident of its practical value. 34.What does the underlined word “exacerbate” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A.Reduce. B.Worsen. C.Relieve. D.Cause. 35.What does the author say about the “positive thinking only” culture? A.It helps workers improve their living standards. B.It encourages people to fight for social changes. C.It equally supports every group in modern society. D.It makes people passively accept unfair situations. 定位原文第一段“For years, I guided my students and friends with this idea. I told them that a positive mind is the key to solving life’s difficulties and that they should never give in to negative feelings.(多年来,我一直以此理念来引导我的学生和朋友们。我告诉他们,积极的心态是解决生活难题的关键,而且他们永远不应屈服于消极的情绪)”,可知作者多年来一直建议人们专注于积极思考,故选B。 33.推理判断题。定位原文第二段“What I discovered completely changed my mind.(我所发现的情况彻底改变了我的看法)”及第四段揭示积极思维危害的内容“It can exacerbate people’s mental stress and deepen feelings of loneliness. When people are told to “just cheer up” during serious difficulties, they may hide their true feelings and refuse to seek help. Worse still, this culture unfairly blames the victims.(它会加重人们的心理压力,加深孤独感。当人们在面临严重困难时被要求“振作起来”时,他们可能会压抑自己的真实情感,拒绝寻求帮助。更糟糕的是,这种文化会不公平地指责受害者)”,可知作者在研究后发现积极思考存在隐藏危害,感到惊讶。故选C。 34.词句猜测题。 定位原文第四段“It can exacerbate people’s mental stress and deepen feelings of loneliness.(它会exacerbate人们的心理压力,加深孤独感)”,前句说“forcing positivity often does more harm than good(强迫性积极往往弊大于利)”,后文提到导致人们隐藏真实感受、加深孤独,可合理推断exacerbate意为“加剧、恶化”。故选B。 35. 定位原文最后一段“Companies and social media influencers often promote this idea because it makes people accept their difficulties passively instead of asking for real changes.(企业和社交媒体影响力人士常常宣扬这种观点,因为它能让人们被动地接受自身的困境,而不会主动要求做出实质性的改变)”及“In this way, the blind positivity that is widely celebrated actually serves the needs of those in power.(这样一来,这种被广泛推崇的盲目乐观实际上恰恰服务于当权者的利益)”,可知“唯积极论”文化让人们被动接受不公平处境,故选D。 Is Exercise the Key to Better Health? We’ve all heard that regular exercise is important for staying healthy. 36 Research shows a clear answer: yes, especially if you mix up your activities to target different fitness areas. By doing so, you can keep your body in top shape and prevent health issues from arising. How exercise improves heart and lung health. 37 If you do a balanced routine that includes cardio (有氧运动), strength training and flexibility exercises, your body gets better at using oxygen. When you exercise regularly, your heart and lungs work more efficiently, pumping oxygen-rich blood to your muscles and organs. This can lead to a lower risk of heart disease and improved respiratory (呼吸的) function. 38 Lately, scientists have been exploring how physical activity affects our mental health. Wellness centers worldwide are now offering Mental Health Fitness Programs. These programs let people take part in exercises designed to enhance both physical and mental health. Regular exercise has been shown to greatly lower symptoms of depression and anxiety, leading to a better mood overall. It’s like a natural antidepressant (抗抑郁药) that doesn’t come with negative side effects. How physical activity improves lifelong well-being. Staying active is a basis for a high-quality life. Exercise not only maintains your physical health and manages your emotions but also enhances your overall well-being. From hiking to swimming, physical activities can reduce stress, lift your spirits, and give you the energy to fully engage in the things you love. By keeping fit, you’re investing in a lifestyle that’s filled with energy. 39 While exercise is great, it’s important to pay attention to your body and avoid pushing too hard, which can lead to injuries. 40 This helps your body handle the workout and recover properly, ensuring you can continue to enjoy the benefits of exercise without interruption. In summary, making exercise a regular part of your life can lead to a happier, healthier you. A.How exercise influences physical health. B.How physical activity impacts our mental health. C.Exercise can help to make your heart and lungs stronger. D.Another big plus of regular exercise is that it can lift your spirits. E.But is it really the best solution to better health, as many experts suggest? F.This active lifestyle is also marked by a sense of accomplishment and joy. G.To stay safe and healthy, always warm up before you exercise and cool down afterward. 36.根据空格前句子“We’ve all heard that regular exercise is important for staying healthy. (我们都听说经常锻炼对保持健康很重要。)”及空后“Research shows a clear answer: yes, especially if you mix up your activities to target different fitness areas.(研究给出了一个明确的答案:是的,尤其是当你针对不同的健身区域混合运动时。)” E项“But is it really the best solution to better health, as many experts suggest? (但这真如众多专家所言是最佳健康方案吗?)”与上文形成转折,并设问引出回答,符合语境。故选E。 37.根据空格后句子“If you do a balanced routine that includes cardio, strength training and flexibility exercises, your body gets better at using oxygen. When you exercise regularly, your heart and lungs work more efficiently, pumping oxygen-rich blood to your muscles and organs. This can lead to a lower risk of heart disease and improved respiratory function. (如果你做一个平衡的日常锻炼,包括有氧运动、力量训练和柔韧性训练,你的身体会更好地利用氧气。当你经常锻炼时,你的心脏和肺的工作效率会更高,将富含氧气的血液输送到肌肉和器官。这可以降低患心脏病的风险,改善呼吸功能。)”可知,下文用具体例子说明运动如何让心肺“更强、更高效”;C项“Exercise can help to make your heart and lungs stronger. (运动能使你的心脏和肺部更强壮)”正是对本段核心内容的精准概括,且出现关键词heart and lungs,与后文细节完全对应。故选C。 38.根据空格后句子“Lately, scientists have been exploring how physical activity affects our mental health. The eighth-graders from Phillip Whitworth’s classes did this by selling tickets for admission to the Annual Carnival Fundraiser, where they packed into the school’s gymnasium and played a huge variety of carnival games. The funds raised go toward a charitable organization that drills water wells in Africa. “Knowledge is useless without action,” Phillip said of the event, which was started by Phillip and his wife in 2019, inspired by a book read in the school district called A Long Walk to Water. The novel tells the story of a fictional character named Nya, an 11-year-old South Sudanese girl who has to walk eight hours a day to bring home water, and the real-life Salva Dut, who founded an organization called Water for South Sudan. To raise money, the Whitworths and Phillip’s students organized the school’s first annual carnival in 2019. Every year, the students choose the games that most people like and sell tickets to their classmates, and get donations from businesses and personal connections. Camryn Robinson, an eighth-grader, found the experience of gathering donations stressful but added that it helped improve her communication skills. “A lot of people don’t take children seriously at first. But if you show people that it’s not just a carnival — it’s something that’s bigger than that, they will listen,” Camryn said. Over the years, the students have raised money to drill three new wells and repair another three in South Sudan. This year, the students sold a little over 700 tickets for $5 each, so they raised around $3,500. But when factoring in business and personal donations, the students have raised more than $10,000, with donations still coming in. “We might not be able to solve the whole problem, but we can absolutely make a difference for some people,” Phillip said. 24.What role did A Long Walk to Water play in the fundraising campaign? A.It inspired Salva Dut to join the mission. B.It taught students to organize a carnival. C.It led to the start of the charitable cause. D.It motivated businesses to donate money. 25.What do Phillip’s students do for the annual carnival? A.They drill wells in person. B.They organize some games. C.They work at different companies. D.They collect tickets from cinemas. 26.What did Camryn Robinson say about gathering donations? A.It was very rewarding. B.It was unchallenging. C.Kids shouldn’t get involved. D.Most people initially supported it. 27.What is paragraph 5 mainly about? A.Phillip’s objective comments. B.Dramatic changes in South Sudan. C.The outcome of the students’ efforts. D.Donations from all over the world. 【答案】24.C 25.B 26.A 27.C 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。美国Franklin中学的学生在老师Phillip Whitworth的带领下,将阅读启发转化为慈善行动,通过举办校园狂欢节为非洲打井筹款,展现了教育与社会责任的结合。 24.细节理解题。根据第二段““Knowledge is useless without action,” Phillip said of the event, which was started by Phillip and his wife in 2019, inspired by a book read in the school district called A Long Walk to Water.(菲利普谈到这次活动时说:“知识若不付诸行动便毫无意义。”这次活动是菲利普和他的妻子在2019年发起的,其灵感来源于他们在学区阅读的一本名为《漫漫取水路》的书)”可知,这本书促成了这项慈善事业的开启。故选C。 25.细节理解题。根据第三段“To raise money, the Whitworths and Phillip’s students organized the school’s first annual carnival in 2019. Every year, the students choose the games that most people like and sell tickets to their classmates, and get donations from businesses and personal connections.(为了筹集资金,惠特沃斯夫妇和菲利普的学生们在 2019 年组织了学校首届年度狂欢节。每年,学生们都会挑选最受欢迎的游戏,并向同学们出售门票,同时还会从企业以及个人关系中获得捐款)”可知,Phillip的学生会为狂欢节组织和安排一些游戏。故选B。 26.推理判断题。根据第四段“Camryn Robinson, an eighth-grader, found the experience of gathering donations stressful but added that it helped improve her communication skills.(卡姆里恩·罗宾逊是一名八年级学生,她认为收集捐赠物资的过程让她感到有些压力,但同时她也表示这有助于提升自己的沟通能力)”可知,Camryn Robinson认为募集捐款很有益。故选A。 27.主旨大意题。根据第五段“Over the years, the students have raised money to drill three new wells and repair another three in South Sudan. This year, the students sold a little over 700 tickets for $5 each, so they raised around $3,500. But when factoring in business and personal donations, the students have raised more than $10,000, with donations still coming in.(多年来,学生们筹集资金在南苏丹新打了三口井,并修复了另外三口井。今年,学生们售出了略多于700张票,每张票售价5美元,共筹集了约3500美元。但若将商业捐赠和个人捐赠一并计算,学生们总共筹集了超过10000美元,而且仍有捐赠源源不断到来)”可知,本段主要介绍的是学生们努力的结果。故选C。 C Australia’s tropical forests have become the world’s first to emit (排放) more carbon into the atmosphere than they are taking in, as a new study report in Nature. This switch is an alarm bell for the planet’s tropical forests, sounding as global leaders prepare for the COP30 meeting in the Amazon rainforest to address the crisis of global climate change. The long-term analysis of Australia’s rainforests from 1971 to 2019 revealed that the forests’ woody biomass — its hard branches and trunks — has been shrinking since around the year 2000. Rising temperatures, droughts and tropical cyclones (气旋) driven by human activities have dramatically increased tree death rate, releasing stored carbon back into the atmosphere. Surprisingly, the extra atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) didn’t boost plant growth as climate models predicted, likely due to limited availability of nutrients plants need like phosphorus and other basic ones — a factor that must be considered in estimating the fate of forests. The Amazon rainforest, which spans an area nearly as large as the continental United States and is currently shouldering a quarter of land-based carbon dioxide annually, is also at risk. It suffered its worst drought in 2024, with deforestation reaching 17 percent. Scientists have warned it could face widespread dieback by 2035 under the pressure of climate change, deforestation and extreme weather like storms. Other tropical forests face similar threats. Africa’s Congo Basin forests, once relatively stable, have shown increased tree death rate since 2010. Southeast Asia’s forests are endangered by the development of urbanization and agriculture. A report made by the U. N. Environment Programme (UNEP) notes that about 291 million of the world’s 1.6 billion hectares of tropical forest are delicate, easily erased off from the green block forever. Protecting these forests will require global financial investments to triple to $300 billion by 2030, yet global efforts for the protection are falling short of the intended commitments. “Tropical forests are huge carbon reservoirs and we must cherish the forest carbon stocks already built up over centuries, or even millennia.” says the programme manager Wannes Hubau in the report. “Losing them would be like setting off a carbon bomb, worsening climate change.” 28.What happened to the Australia’s tropical forests? A.They were expanding rapidly. B.They became a carbon-friendly place. C.Their woody biomass was on increase. D.They were turning into carbon emitters. 29.What might limit Australia’s forest growth with more CO₂? A.Long-term data analysis. B.Insufficient basic nutrients. C.Storage of carbon in trunks. D.Climate model expectations. 30.What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A.Tropical forests will die back by 2035. B.Farming destroys forests in tropical regions. C.Tropical forests face growing global threats. D.Droughts cause most rainforest loss worldwide. 31.What can we learn from the UNEP report? A.Few tropical forests are at high risk. B.Tropical forest conservation lacks funds. C.The death rate of tropical forests is declining. D.Africa’s forests have the highest tree death rate. 【答案】28.D 29.B 30.C 31.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了澳大利亚热带森林成为全球首个碳净排放区,全球热带森林面临气候危机,保护工作迫在眉睫。 28.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Australia’s tropical forests have become the world’s first to emit (排放) more carbon into the atmosphere than they are taking in, as a new study report in Nature.(《自然》杂志发布的一项最新研究报告显示,澳大利亚的热带森林已成为全球首个向大气中排放的碳超过其吸收量的生态系统。)”可知,澳大利亚的热带森林成为全球首个碳排放量超过吸收量的地区,正在变成碳排放源。故选D。 29.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Surprisingly, the extra atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) didn’t boost plant growth as climate models predicted, likely due to limited availability of nutrients plants need like phosphorus and other basic ones—a factor that must be considered in estimating the fate of forests.(令人意外的是,大气中额外的二氧化碳并未如气候模型预测的那样促进植物生长,原因很可能是植物所需的磷等营养物质供应有限——这一因素在评估森林的未来走向时必须予以考虑。)”可知,额外的二氧化碳未能促进植物生长,原因是植物所需的磷等基础营养物质供应有限。故选B。 30.主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“The Amazon rainforest, which spans an area nearly as large as the continental United States and is currently shouldering a quarter of land-based carbon dioxide annually, is also at risk. It suffered its worst drought in 2024, with deforestation reaching 17 percent. Scientists have warned it could face widespread dieback by 2035 under the pressure of climate change, deforestation and extreme weather like storms.(亚马逊雨林的面积几乎与美国本土相当,目前每年承担着陆地四分之一的二氧化碳吸收量,如今也面临着风险。2024年,该雨林遭遇了最严重的干旱,森林砍伐率达到17%。科学家警告称,在气候变化、森林砍伐以及风暴等极端天气的压力下,到2035年,亚马逊雨林可能会出现大面积枯死。)”以及全段内容可知,第三段主要讲述了亚马逊雨林、非洲刚果盆地森林、东南亚森林等全球热带森林均面临气候变化、砍伐、极端天气等不同威胁。故选C。 31.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Protecting these forests will require global financial investments to triple to $300 billion by 2030, yet global efforts for the protection are falling short of the intended commitments.(到2030年,保护这些森林所需的全球资金投入需增至目前的三倍,达到3000亿美元,然而全球的保护行动并未达到预期的承诺目标。)”可知,保护热带森林的资金投入存在巨大缺口,全球保护行动未达预期。故选B。 D When someone loses weight, people notice, comment, and ask how. The question implies that whatever method they used is worth knowing, reproducing, or admiring. It positions weight loss as an achievement, a moral victory, a signal of discipline or virtue. But what if their weight loss came from grief, stress, depression or a medication that finally brought balance to their body chemistry? Our curiosity about how someone lost weight is rarely neutral. Often, it’s rooted in our own insecurity or desire for control. We want to know what works — because culturally, we’ve been taught that managing our bodies is a lifelong project. When we see someone “succeed,” we want the recipe. However, rather than self- improvement projects, our bodies are complex ecosystems — shaped by genetics, hormones, health conditions,  socioeconomic factors, medications, and emotions. When we reduce someone’s body to a before- and- after story, we dehumanize them into an object lesson. The recent explosion of GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro has made this question even more controversial. Many people assume any visible change must be drug- related, and they ask with hardly disguised judgment or envy. “Did you use one of those medications?” has become the new “Did you get work done?” The subtext is clear: Did you earn this, or did you cheat? This framing is not only prejudiced — it’s unscientific. GLP-1 medications are legal medical treatments for conditions like diabetes (糖尿病), metabolic dysfunction, and obesity. Shame has no place in a conversation about health or healing. Yet we’ve moralized weight loss to such an extent that even those who find life-changing relief through medication are made to feel guilty or defensive for it. We live in a society enthusiastic about Cinderella stories. Weight loss is still treated like a transformation myth. But health and self-worth are not determined by body size, and accomplishments shouldn’t be measured in pounds. When we cease looking into how people lost weight, we start to undo a small but powerful part of that narrative. We give others and ourselves permission to exist without explanation, justification, or public commentary on our bodies. 32.Why do people ask about weight loss methods? A.To manage their desire for control. B.To address their own body image anxiety. C.To identify effects of weight medications. D.To study human body ecosystems closely. 33.What does the underlined word “framing” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Avoiding controversial questions. B.Building support structures. C.Labelling medication as cheating. D.Misjudging health conditions. 34.Which statement would the author probably agree with? A.Weight loss signals discipline and virtue. B.Medications are universal health solutions. C.Dieters should defend their own rights. D.Self-worth is independent of body size. 35.What can be the best title for the text? A.Celebrating Body Changes B.Psychology of Losing Weight C.Stop Judging Weight Loss D.Medical Solutions to Overweight 【答案】32.B 33.C 34.D 35.C 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章讨论了社会对“减肥”现象的过度关注和道德化评判,批判了以体型衡量个人价值的社会观念。 12.推理判断题。根据文章第二段第一、二句“Our curiosity about how someone lost weight is rarely neutral. Often, it’s rooted in our own insecurity or desire for control. (我们对他人如何减肥的好奇心鲜少是不带立场的。它常常植根于我们自身的不安全感或对控制感的渴望)”可知,人们询问减肥方法,并非出于单纯的好奇,其深层动机是为了应对自身的不安全感,即对自己形象的焦虑,或寻求一种能掌控自己身体的方法。由此推知,人们询问减肥方法是为了解决他们自身的身体形象焦虑。故选B项。 33.词句猜测题。根据第三段最后两句““Did you use one of those medications?” has become the new “Did you get work done?” The subtext is clear: Did you earn this, or did you cheat? (“你用过那些药吗?” 已经变成了新版的“你整容了吗?”潜台词很明确:这是你努力得来的,还是你作弊了?)”及第四段第一句“This framing is not only prejudiced — it’s unscientific. (这种framing不仅是偏见——也是不科学的)”可知,这里的“framing”指的是上文将使用药物减肥视为“作弊”,这种带有道德评判的偏见的界定方式。因此,“framing”在此处是指将药物治疗贴上“作弊”的标签。故选C项。 34.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段第三句“But health and self-worth are not determined by body size, and accomplishments shouldn’t be measured in pounds. (但健康和自我价值并非由体型决定,成就也不该用磅来衡量)”和最后一句“We give others and ourselves permission to exist without explanation, justification, or public commentary on our bodies. During the journey of achieving success, everyone often encounters obstacles that test their determination. Adversity is an unavoidable part of life, but the ability to manage it sets individuals apart. This ability is often referred to as Adversity Quotient (AQ). 36 While IQ and EQ focus on cognitive and emotional abilities, AQ focuses on one’s capacity to bounce back from failure. Fortunately, researchers suggest that your AQ is not fixed and can be strengthened through several key strategies. Cultivate a growth mindset A growth mindset is the belief that your abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. Instead of seeing challenges as unbeatable barriers, you should view them as chances to improve. 37 . By focusing on learning and perseverance, individuals can significantly enhance their Adversity Quotient. This shift in thinking allows people to see themselves as active participants in their growth rather than passive victims. 38 Having a strong support network is crucial in times of adversity. Surrounding yourself with positive individuals can provide encouragement and guidance. Sharing experiences and looking for support from others who have faced similar challenges can help in building resilience and enhancing your adaptability. Knowing you are not alone often provides the extra strength needed to keep moving forward. Learn from every setback Every failure presents an opportunity for learning and growth. 39 . Reflecting on past experiences and identifying areas for improvement can contribute to the development of your resilience. This habit prevents individuals from being frozen by the fear of making mistakes again. 40 . With the right mindset, strong external support, and a habit of reflecting on setbacks, anyone can navigate life’s storms and emerge stronger than before. Resilience, after all, is not about never falling, but about how quickly you get back up. A.Lean on a reliable community B.Expand your social connection C.Focusing on the negative side of a crisis is a natural tendency D.This internal perspective acts as a guide through hardship E.High AQ individuals actively draw lessons from their failures F.It serves as a practical tool to evaluate one’s future potential G.Embracing these shifts in attitude will lead to lasting growth: 【答案】36.F 37.D 38.A 39.E 40.G 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了在追求成功的道路上,逆境商数(AQ)的重要性以及如何通过培养成长型思维、依靠可靠团体、从失败中学习等策略来提高AQ。 36.上文“This ability is often referred to as Adversity Quotient (AQ).(这种能力通常被称为逆境商数(AQ))”引出逆商AQ这一概念。空后“While IQ and EQ focus on cognitive and emotional abilities, AQ focuses on one’s capacity to bounce back from failure.(虽然智商和情商侧重认知与情感能力,但逆商侧重人从失败中恢复过来、重新振作的能力)”对比IQ、EQ与AQ的不同。空处承接上文,继续介绍AQ的作用。选项F“It serves as a practical tool to evaluate one’s future potential(它是一种评估一个人未来潜力的实用工具)”符合语境。F选项中的“It”指代前文的“AQ”,进一步阐述了AQ的作用,与后文内容相呼应,符合语境。故选F。 37.上文“Instead of seeing challenges as unbeatable barriers, you should view them as chances to improve.(不要把挑战看作是不可战胜的障碍,而应该把它们看作是改进的机会)”阐述了应如何看待挑战。空后“By focusing on learning and perseverance, individuals can significantly enhance their Adversity Quotient.(通过专注于学习和坚持,个人可以显著提高他们的逆境商数)”说明采取正确看待挑战的方式后带来的结果。空处承接上文,需说明这种看待挑战的内部视角的作用。选项D“This internal perspective acts as a guide through hardship(这种内部视角在困难中起到指引作用)”符合语境。D选项中的“This internal perspective”指代前文把挑战看作改进机会的这种看待方式,说明了这种视角在应对困难时的作用,与后文通过这种方式提高逆境商数的内容相呼应,逻辑连贯。故选D。 38.后文“Having a strong support network is crucial in times of adversity. B As a child, I dreamed of being Jane Goodall, living among chimpanzees (黑猩猩). C Urbanization in Canada is rapidly consuming wildlife habitats. However, GPS tracking has helped researchers observe how sensitive animals are to urban infrastructure (基础设施). Some animals, like wolves, avoid people and built-up areas, changing their behaviors to keep clear of urban environments. A.The Disappearing Wild Animals in Canada B.How GPS Tracks Wildlife in Canadian Cities C.The Primary Threat of Urbanization to Wildlife D.Wildlife and Human Adaptation to Urbanization D We often hear the same advice from parents, teachers and self-help books: “Think positive, and everything will get better.” For years, I guided my students and friends with this idea. 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Is Exercise the Key to Better Health? 阅读理解“4+1”限时练B卷(限时40分钟) 第二部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分) 第一节(共15小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A While artistic expression develops in countless forms, artists are still pushing boundaries. The new year has brought a host of exciting and inventive exhibitions, including — but not limited to — the following four: The Space Between Monty, Rome| Artist: Gwen Evans Medium: PaintingIntroduction: The artist turns domestic scenes into dreamy paintings to create a familiar and strange feeling. She shows it by painting everyday activities with unexpected changes or mysterious figures. Figure in the Field Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York Type: Group ExhibitionIntroduction: “Figure in the Field” brings together nine artists who see background as an active part of the image. The exhibition shows how each of them negotiates the relationship between figure and field differently. Kaleidoscope THEFOURTH, Cape Town| Artist: Sera Holland| Medium: Mix-medium Painting Introduction: The artist applies thick paint layers, viewing paint as a material that can be built up in three dimensions. Her “Tapestry” works use weaving (编织) logic, making abstract images with thread-like marks like cloth. All Fall Down Francesco Pantaleone, Palermo, Italy Artists: Concetta Modica and Ignazio Mortellaro| Medium: SculptureIntroduction: In “All Fall Down”, the works — placed on the floor or leaning against the walls — appear about to fall at any moment. Their placement presents a sense of unstable balance, creating a dangerous yet beautiful tension. Shared Themes: ◎Challenging insight — Pushing boundaries (real vs. surreal, 2D vs. 3D) ◎Reinterpreting materials and space through form and placement 21.What influences Sera Holland’s art creation? A.Ordinary family scenes. B.The process of weaving. C.South African cultural themes. D.Patterns of light and shadow. 22.Which exhibition features sculptures? A.The Space Between. B.All Fall Down. C.Figure in the Field. D.Kaleidoscope. 23.What can best describe the four exhibitions? A.Three-dimensional. B.Conventional. C.Interactive. D.Experimental. B Students at Franklin Middle School not only got to play carnival (狂欢节) games during school hours, but also raised money for a good cause. C Australia’s tropical forests have become the world’s first to emit (排放) more carbon into the atmosphere than they are taking in, as a new study report in Nature. D When someone loses weight, people notice, comment, and ask how. A.Lean on a reliable community B.Expand your social connection C.Focusing on the negative side of a crisis is a natural tendency D.This internal perspective acts as a guide through hardship E.High AQ individuals actively draw lessons from their failures F.It serves as a practical tool to evaluate one’s future potential G.Embracing these shifts in attitude will lead to lasting growth: $
