Have you noticed a new kind of running shoes at school recently? Many students are wearing them. They look very cool, have thick soles (鞋底), and cost a lot of money. People call them “carbon plate” shoes. Some young runners believe these shoes are magic. They think, “If I wear these, I will run faster and get better marks in PE class.” But there is a secret about these shoes that you should know.
These shoes are not just normal trainers. They are like powerful machines for your feet. Inside the thick foam (泡沫), there is a hard plate made of a material called carbon. This plate is very hard. It works like a strong spring. When a runner steps down, the plate bends and then pushes the runner forward with a lot of energy. This is wonderful for professional athletes who run marathons. However, for a student like you, this “magic” might actually be dangerous.
Why are they dangerous? The problem is that your body is still changing. As a teenager, your foot bones are not fully hard yet. They are still growing. Because the carbon plate is so stiff, it does not move easily. Instead, it forces your foot into a fixed shape. If you wear them every day, the shoe fights against your natural foot movement. This can cause serious trouble.
Doctors are now seeing many children with foot injuries because of these shoes. If you wear them to walk to school or play with friends, your feet can get hurt. You might feel a sharp pain in your ankles (脚腕) or your knees.
So, what should you do? It is okay to wear them for a short race if you are a serious runner. But please do not wear them all day long. For walking and playing, simple and soft sneakers (运动鞋) are much better. They let your feet move freely. Remember, cool shoes are nice, but healthy feet are the most important thing!
8. Why do many students like wearing “carbon plate” shoes?
A. Because the shoes are cool, have thick soles and cost a lot.
B. Because students need to practice running to get high marks every day.
C. Because the shoes are magical and good for teenagers’ feet.
9. How do the shoes work when a runner steps down?
A. The soles are thick enough to give the magic power to runners.
B. The plate bends and then pushes the runner forward with lots of energy.
C. The carbon plate is so hard, and it can move easily and lightly.
10. What problem may students face if they wear “carbon plate” shoes every day?
A. They may spend too much money on the expensive shoes.
B. They may feel a sharp pain in their ankles or knees.
C. They may not run faster in the PE class races.
11. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Future of Teen Health
B. The Fashion of the Teen “Cool Shoes”
C. The Hidden Dangers of Teen “Super Shoes”
A 9. B 10. B 11. C

故填your。
故填that。

inspire sb. to do sth. 故填be inspired。
start with sth. 故填with。
故填have lost。
故填a。
One day I was stuck on the final problem on my math homework. After about an hour, I came up with a solution, but it was so complicated (复杂的) that I feared getting a big “F”.
The next day, I handed in my homework and sat through the whole morning with butterflies in my stomach. Finally the math class came. The teacher handed back our homework, and that made me nervous. But after I opened mine, my worry turned into happiness and pride. Beside the red check mark was a handwritten “Great idea!” and a sticker that read “Genius (天才)”. I put the sticker on the first page of my notebook. It is still there today. It’s a reminder of how one teacher’s kindness and creativity turned the fear of making mistakes into the courage to keep thinking.
Soon, this creative grading style led to a wave of enthusiasm (热情) in our class. My classmate Jack turned difficult math problems into a catchy poem, earning him the title of “poet of science”. Another student designed a “timeline” for a math problem and earned a “logician (逻辑学家)” sticker. For wrong answers, our teacher would draw a thinking face with words like “A good try! Let’s rethink this together.” and there was never any punishment.
These warm words and cute stickers really light up our passion for learning. They not only make homework fun but also make us feel seen, brave, and proud to try new things. Thank you, my dear teacher, for making math learning such a wonderful journey!

How time flies! At this exciting moment, it’s my great honor to say thanks to my English teacher, Ms. Li. She always wears a warm smile and her eyes are full of patience. Chen-Ning Yang, a world-famous physicist in China, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 103. People from home and abroad remembered him with great respect.
Together with Tsung-dao Lee, Yang was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957 for their theory of parity non-conservation in weak interactions He was often listed with Albert Einstein as one of the 20th century’s greatest physicists.
Born in Hefei, Anhui Province, in 1922, Yang received his early education in China. He got his master’s degree from Tsinghua University during the war. Later, he left China and went to the United States for further studies.
Although Yang spent many years abroad, he had always cared about China’s scientific development. In 1971, he made his first visit to China, which helped to start many academic (学术的) exchanges between China and other countries. This trip also led to a wave of visits to China by overseas Chinese scientists. Furthermore, he personally raised funds to support nearly 100 Chinese students for overseas study, and many of them later became leading experts in their fields. In 1986, he worked as a visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In his later years, he returned to Tsinghua University and continued to work hard for the development of higher education in China.
Though Yang has left us, his spirit continues to encourage young people to explore the unknown world and serve their own country. His life shows how one person can make a difference with both intelligence and deep love for his homeland.
