【原创题】China has many old villages that are becoming popular with tourists. These places have beautiful old buildings and rich culture. Young people are also moving in to start new businesses, which helps bring the villages back to life. China has over 600,000 villages, each with its own special customs and foods. Among them, eight villages were chosen as “Best Tourism Villages” by the United Nations World Tourism Organization(UNWTO). This means these villages do a great job protecting their culture and nature while finding new ways to grow and stay green.
One of these villages is Zhagana in Gansu Province. In Tibetan, Zhagana means “stone box”. It is high up in the mountains at about 3,500 meters. People love visiting here because of its pretty valleys, rivers, forests, and glaciers(冰川). The houses look like they are built of stone, and the villagers live a simple life.
Another Best Tourism Village is Xidi in Anhui Province. Xidi became very famous in 2000 when it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List(联合国教科文组织《世界遗产名录》). It has nearly 1,000 years of history and lots of old buildings. Visitors can see Huizhou culture through its archways(拱门) and temples. Young people are coming to Xidi with new ideas for shops and guest houses(小旅馆). They use modern ways to run businesses, which helps the village grow. Their work makes the local economy stronger and keeps old traditions alive.
The UNWTO started the Best Tourism Villages project in 2021 to find villages that protect their way of life and promote good changes. Along with Zhagana and Xidi, thirteen other villages in China also got this award. These ancient villages show us how old places can be exciting again.
