Nora Langdon,a retired real estate agent from Michigan, didn't start powerlifting until her 60s.
Driven by the physical decline (she was experiencing, she began her journey to rebuild her
strength.Over the past two decades, she has set more than 20 world and national records in her age
group, proving that strength knows no age limit.
Like many older adults,Langdon faced the natural decline in muscle mass, which can lead to
reduced mobility and increased risk of falls. However, weight training helped her not only rebuild
muscle but also improve her balance and confidence.Research supports her experience:a 2024
study found that women who join in strength training live longer and have a lower risk of heart
disease. For Langdon, the benefits were both physical and mental.
Langdon's journey began modestly.She started out struggling to pull-up a broomstick.A year
later,at age 65,she entered the World Masters Power-lifting Competition Palm Springs,California,
where she lifted 336 pounds. Now,at 82,she trains three days a week, for three to four hours. She
follows a strict diet and keeps up a positive outlook. She says she feels as if she keeps getting
stronger, even at the age of 82,and has no plans to stop-not until,as she puts it,"the Lord tells me
it's my time."And she adds,"All I want to do is inspire others to get up and do things."
24.What motivated Nora Langdon to start powerlifting?
A.To win world records.

In recent years,short-form videos have become popular around the world.Compared with
traditional long-form videos, they are more convenient. However, some Chinese researchers have
some worries. They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence
our genes ()The new study found that watching short-form videos can increase brain activity
in regions connected to reward processing and emotion regulation. This may lead to various
biological and neurological(神经系统的)problems.
For the study, the researchers selected 111 college students between the ages of 17 and 30 who
liked to use social media.Besides, the study focused on the use of short-form video apps rather
than general smartphone use.Researchers collected their brain imaging data using MRI scans
共振扫描)to see the neurological effects of short-form videos, especially in terms of structural
changes and functional activity in the brain.
The results were surprising.Participants who were more addicted to short-form videos showed
functional and structural brain differences compared with others. There was an increase in gray
matter volume(灰质体积)in the cerebellum(小脑)and orbitofrontal cortex(眶额叶皮层),which
are important to decision-making,information processing, and emotional control. This makes the
brain more sensitive to the quick rewards that one gets from watching one video after another,
making it harder to stop.
Moreover, the researchers found nearly 500 genes linked to changes in the brain resulting
from short-form video addiction.Interestingly, most of these genes are highly active during the
teenage years, suggesting that these years are a vulnerable period during which individuals may be
more likely to get addicted to short-form videos.
28.What did the research mainly study?
A.Social media's global popularity.
B.The best apps for college students.
C.Short videos'effects on our brains.
D.College students'emotional control.
29.What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A.The focuses of the study
B.The process of the study.
C.The background of participants.
D.The key findings of the research.
30.What does the underlined word"vulnerable"in the last paragraph mean?
A.Easily affected.
B.Physically weak
C.Highly intelligent.
D.Emotionally changeable.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Short Videos:A Global Trend
B.Teenage Brains:A Critical Period
C.Short Videos:Reshaping the Brain
D.Social Media:Reward and Emotion
D
No-till farming,is a way of growing crops without plowing (the soil.Traditional
farming uses machines to turn over the soil. But no-till farming is different. It leaves the dead
plants from the last harvest on the ground and plants new seeds directly into the soil without
disturbing it.
No-till farming serves as a guard for the soil.By not plowing, the soil's structure and the
helpful microorganisms inside it are kept safe. The plant remains from last seasons acting almost
like armour (protect the soil from being worn away by wind and rain. This not only keeps the
good topsoil in place but also helps the soil take in more water.
No-till farming can also act like a carbon sink, absorbing COz from the atmosphere and
storing it in soil. This process reduces greenhouse gases. And without tilling, the soil keeps more
carbon and releases less into the air, making it a key practice in environmental preservation.
Furthermore, this farming method minimizes fossil fuel use.Traditional tilling requires
frequent machinery use, contributing to CO2 emissions ()No-till allows farmers to cut back
significantly on machinery use and reduce their carbon footprint.
While no-till farming offers a lot of advantages,it also comes with some challenges that
require consideration. In the beginning, farmers might experience a decrease in yield ()This
drop is often temporary as the soil ecosystem slowly adapts to the new farming method.
Additionally,no-till farming demands a higher investment in specialized equipment.Such
machinery can be costly, though it's an investment that can pay off with the reduced need for soil
conditioners and lower labour costs over time.
32.What can we learn about no-till farming?
A.It needs no worker.
B.It has been widely used
C.It keeps the soil's natural state.
D.It relies heavily on machinery.
33.Why does the author mention"armour"in paragraph 2?
A.To call for farming without plowing.
B.To stress the protective function of plant remains.
C.To explain the damaging effects of wind and water.
D.To prove that plant remains are difficult to clean up.
34.How does no-till farming reduce air pollution?
A.By preventing water runoff.
B.By absorbing carbon from the soil.
C.By reducing the use of machinery.
D.By protecting organic matter in soil.
35.What is the author's attitude toward no-till farming?
A.Objective.
B.Doubtful.
C.Worried.
D.Supportive.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Li Hua, a high school student. I am writing to propose adding Wushu to the Olympic Games.
Wushu represents China’s rich cultural heritage, being practiced by over 120 million people across 150 countries. It combines athletic skill with artistic beauty, offering both combat (Sanda) and performance (Taolu) disciplines. The sport embodies Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. Its inclusion would enhance cultural diversity in the Olympics and inspire practitioners worldwide. Wushu has already proven its competitive standards in Asian Games and World Games.
I sincerely hope you will consider this proposal.
Yours Faithfully,
Li Hua
Very quietly she slipped into the kitchen and came back with the meat. She threw the meat as far as she could into the corner of the garden. The wolf raised its head, sniffed the air, and then slowly walked towards the meat. Mrs. Clarke rushed to the pram, picked up her baby, and ran into the house as fast as she could. She locked the door and held her baby tightly, her heart beating wildly. But she knew she couldn’t stay inside forever. She had to call the police.
It struck Mrs. Clarke that children would soon be coming down the road on their way back to school. Panic welled up inside her again. She peeked out of the window and saw the wolf still feasting on the meat. With trembling hands, she dialed the police number. As she waited for the police to arrive, she kept an eye on the wolf, praying that no children would appear. Finally, the sound of police sirens filled the air. The officers quickly surrounded the garden and managed to capture the wolf without any further incident. Mrs. Clarke let out a long sigh of relief, grateful that the danger had passed.
以及 “Afternoon: Sun Island & Ice and Snow World (day & night views).”
根据“WHAT’S INCLUDED”部分最后一行列出的服务“24/7 helpline for while you are traveling”,这项服务承诺在旅行期间提供每周7天、每天24小时的支持热线。
根据文章第一段第二句“Driven by the physical decline she was experiencing, she began her journey to rebuild her strength.”
根据文章第三段“Now, at 82, she trains three days a week, for three to four hours. She follows a strict diet...”
同时,她在文章最后表示“All I want to do is inspire others to get up and do things”(我只想激励其他人行动起来做点事情),这体现了她的“Inspiring”(鼓舞人心)。
It’s never too late to start.”(开始永远不嫌晚)这一道理。
They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence our genes指出研究的重点是“短视频如何重塑我们的大脑”,并通过收集大脑成像数据来观察其“神经系统的效果”,包括大脑的结构和功能变化。
36. F 选项F “Here’s how you can create a new chapter in your life ”完美地承接了上文关于面对困境的论述,同时引出下文将要详细介绍的四个具体步骤,起到承上启下的作用。
E选项直接承接标题的论述,并且后文“Use that mental line to give yourself courage to be better”对这个选项做补充解释。
G 项 “Focus on practical steps instead of meaningless attempts”(专注切实步骤,而非无意义尝试)呼应 “do what works right”,与后文 “稳步前进” 形成逻辑的深度契合。

Pat Hogan was traveling around the country in his car. One evening he was driving along a road and looking for a small hotel. But he didn’t know how to get there. While he was wondering what to do, he saw an old man at the side of the road. So he stopped his car and said to the old man, “Excuse me, I want to go to the Sun Hotel. Do you know it?”
“Yes”, the old man answered. “It’s not far from here. I’ll show you the way.”
He got into Pat’s car, and they drove for about twelve miles. When they came to a small house, the old man said, “Stop here.”

Nora Langdon, a retired real estate agent from Michigan, didn’t start powerlifting until her 60s. Driven by the physical decline (下降) she was experiencing, she began her journey to rebuild her strength. Over the past two decades, she has set more than 20 world and national records in her age group, proving that strength knows no age limit.
Like many older adults, Langdon faced the natural decline in muscle mass, which can lead to reduced mobility and increased risk of falls. However, weight training helped her not only rebuild muscle but also improve her balance and confidence. Research supports her experience: a 2024 study found that women who join in strength training live longer and have a lower risk of heart disease. For Langdon, the benefits were both physical and mental.
Langdon’s journey began modestly. She started out struggling to pull-up a broomstick. A year later, at age 65, she entered the World Masters Power-lifting Competition Palm Springs, California, where she lifted 336 pounds. Now, at 82, she trains three days a week, for three to four hours. She follows a strict diet and keeps up a positive outlook. She says she feels as if she keeps getting stronger, even at the age of 82, and has no plans to stop—not until, as she puts it, “the Lord tells me it’s my time.” And she adds, “All I want to do is inspire others to get up and do things.”
24. What motivated Nora Langdon to start powerlifting?
A. To win world records. B. To stop her physical decline.
C. To follow her doctor’s advice. D. To inspire other elderly people.
25. How does Langdon keep fit and strong at the age of 82?
A. She trains occasionally with friends.
B. She works out with a personal trainer.
C. She only does easy workouts at home.
D. She trains regularly and eats very healthily.
26. Which of the following can best describe Nora Langdon?
A. Easygoing and gifted. B. Competitive and caring.
C. Energetic and traditional. D. Determined and inspiring.
27. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Look before you leap.
B. It’s never too late to start.
C. The early bird catches the worm.
D. Actions speak louder than words.

In recent years, short-form videos have become popular around the world. Compared with traditional long-form videos, they are more convenient. However, some Chinese researchers have some worries. They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and influence our genes (基因). The new study found that watching short-form videos can increase brain activity in regions connected to reward processing and emotion regulation. This may lead to various biological and neurological (神经系统的) problems.
For the study, the researchers selected 111 college students between the ages of 17 and 30 who liked to use social media. Besides, the study focused on the use of short-form video apps rather than general smartphone use. Researchers collected their brain imaging data using MRI scans (磁共振扫描) to see the neurological effects of short-form videos, especially in terms of structural changes and functional activity in the brain.
The results were surprising. Participants who were more addicted to short-form videos showed functional and structural brain differences compared with others. There was an increase in gray matter volume (灰质体积) in the cerebellum (小脑) and orbitofrontal cortex (眶额叶皮层), which are important to decision-making, information processing, and emotional control. This makes the brain more sensitive to the quick rewards that one gets from watching one video after another, making it harder to stop.
Moreover, the researchers found nearly 500 genes linked to changes in the brain resulting from short-form video addiction. Interestingly, most of these genes are highly active during the teenage years, suggesting that these years are a vulnerable period during which individuals may be more likely to get addicted to short-form videos.
28. What did the research mainly study?
A. Social media’s global popularity.
B. The best apps for college students.
C. Short videos’ effects on our brains.
D. College students’ emotional control.
29. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A. The focuses of the study.
B. The process of the study.
C. The background of participants.
D. The key findings of the research.
30. What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Easily affected. B. Physically weak.
C. Highly intelligent. D. Emotionally changeable.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Short Videos: A Global Trend
B. Teenage Brains: A Critical Period
C. Short Videos: Reshaping the Brain
D. Social Media: Reward and Emotion
D
No-till farming, is a way of growing crops without plowing (犁地) the soil. Traditional farming uses machines to turn over the soil. But no-till farming is different. It leaves the dead plants from the last harvest on the ground and plants new seeds directly into the soil without disturbing it.
No-till farming serves as a guard for the soil. By not plowing, the soil’s structure and the helpful microorganisms inside it are kept safe. The plant remains from last seasons acting almost like armour (盔甲) protect the soil from being worn away by wind and rain. This not only keeps the good topsoil in place but also helps the soil take in more water.
No-till farming can also act like a carbon sink, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in soil. This process reduces greenhouse gases. And without tilling, the soil keeps more carbon and releases less into the air, making it a key practice in environmental preservation.
Furthermore, this farming method minimizes fossil fuel use. Traditional tilling requires frequent machinery use, contributing to CO2 emissions (排放). No-till allows farmers to cut back significantly on machinery use and reduce their carbon footprint.
While no-till farming offers a lot of advantages, it also comes with some challenges that require consideration. In the beginning, farmers might experience a decrease in yield (产量). This drop is often temporary as the soil ecosystem slowly adapts to the new farming method.
Additionally, no-till farming demands a higher investment in specialized equipment. Such machinery can be costly, though it’s an investment that can pay off with the reduced need for soil conditioners and lower labour costs over time.
32. What can we learn about no-till farming?
A. It needs no worker.
B. It has been widely used.
C. It keeps the soil’s natural state.
D. It relies heavily on machinery.
33. Why does the author mention “armour” in paragraph 2?
A. To call for farming without plowing.
B. To stress the protective function of plant remains.
C. To explain the damaging effects of wind and water.
D. To prove that plant remains are difficult to clean up.
34. How does no-till farming reduce air pollution?
A. By preventing water runoff.
B. By absorbing carbon from the soil.
C. By reducing the use of machinery.
D. By protecting organic matter in soil.
35. What is the author’s attitude toward no-till farming?
A. Objective. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Supportive.

ESCAPE FROM THE ZOO
“This is Radio Two. This is the one o’clock news. A she-wolf escaped from the Dorford Zoo this morning and is believed to be still at large (未被抓) in the Dorford area. If hungry, the wolf might be dangerous. If anyone sees this animal, please inform the nearest police-station. Football: In the match between…”.
Mrs. Clarke turned the radio off: she was not interested in football and she wanted to make her midday lunch before her baby woke up. She pushed the pram (婴儿车) into the garden, left it under a tree out of the sun and went into the kitchen.
Ten minutes later she came to the back door to see if everything was all right. A big dog was standing by the pram looking at the baby. “That’s the Johnson’s dog. I’ve told them they ought to keep that great animal in their own garden. Those dogs are a bit too much like wolves”. Then Mrs. Clarke went cold. “Wolves. What have I heard about wolves?” She was sure she had heard something about an escaped wolf on the radio. She looked hard at the creature by the pram and the more she looked, the more certain she became. It wasn’t the dog from next door. Like it, but different. It was as big as the dog, but the colour was greyer and it looked thinner.
At this moment the creature put its front legs on the side of the pram and leant over the sleeping baby, licking (舔) its face. The baby woke up and began to cry quietly.
Mrs. Clarke wanted to scream, but she knew it would be wrong to do that. What should she do? “Inform the police”, the radio had said. But that meant leaving the garden and going to the telephone near the front door. She was sure that somehow she must get the wolf away from the pram. Then she remembered the piece of meat she had bought. It was on the kitchen table.
注意:(1)续写的词数应为150左右;
Very quietly she slipped into the kitchen and came back with the meat.
It struck Mrs. Clarke that children would soon be coming down the road on their way back to school.

W: I understand how you’re feeling. Just take it easy. You will make a lot of new friends very soon.
M: Thank you. I will try my best to get used to my new school life as soon as possible. By the way, what time does the first class begin?
W: At eight o’clock. But before that we have 10 minutes to hand in homework and then 10 minutes for morning reading.
M: That’s to say, we must get to school before 7:30,right?
(Text 7)
W: Hi,Jack.Friday is a holiday. Let’s drive to New York. We could leave on Thursday after work.
M: I’m afraid we can’t leave until Friday morning. You know,I’ve got to get the car fixed.
W: All right. Shall we take turns driving?
M: That’s a good idea.It’s less tiring that way.
W: I’m looking forward to seeing New York. I’ve never been there.
M: Neither have I. So let’s make the most of our weekend.
W: During the day we can see the sights.
M: And in the evenings we can go to a play.
W: That would be nice,but…
M: But what?
W: I’m a bit worried if we will be lucky enough to get tickets.
M: Don’t worry too much about that! There’s always some fun things to do.
(Text 8)
W: Come in and sit down, please.
M: Thanks. I’ve got a small Christmas gift for you.
W: You’re so thoughtful! It looks lovely—where did you get it?
M: Two months ago, I went to China with my parents and bought it in Beijing.
W: From China? Perfect! China’s handcrafts are really nice. What’s it made of?
M: It’s made of bamboo.
W: Bamboo? That’s beautiful! I’ll put it here so everyone can see it when they come in.
M: I’m glad you like it.
W: Did you visit other places in China besides Beijing?
M: We went to Chengdu too—we saw pandas and tried spicy hot pot. It was great.
W: That sounds fun! I’ve always wanted to go to China. Maybe I can ask you for travel tips later.
M: Of course!
(Text 9)
M: You look tired and absent-minded. You’ll miss the professor’s key points. Did you have trouble falling asleep last night?
W: No. I just stayed up late last night. I planned to go to sleep by 11:00 pm. But I didn’t go to bed until 1:00 am.
M: Did you watch a football game again?
W: No. A friend wanted to find someone to play an online game with him. So I joined him. I just wanted to play for about half an hour. But before I realized it, two hours had passed.
M: I never play online games. I think it’s a waste of time.
W: I agree, but sometimes I just cannot control myself.
M: Why not try to learn something? It can keep you busy.
W: That sounds like a good idea. But I don’t know how to begin.
M: I’m learning French. Why not learn it together?
W: That’s a good idea.

Pat stopped and looked at the house, puzzled. “But this isn’t a hotel,” he said to the old man.
“No,” the old man answered, “this is my house. But now I’ll show you the way to the Sun Hotel. Turn around and go back 9 miles. Then you’ll see the Sun Hotel on the left.”

Dear Sir/Madam,

Wushu represents China's rich cultural heritage, being practiced by over 120 million people across 150
countries. It combines athletic skill with artistic beauty, offering both combat (Sanda)and performance (Taolu)
disciplines. The sport embodies Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. Its inclusion would enhance
cultural diversity in the Olympics and inspire practitioners worldwide.Wushu has already proven its competitive
standards in Asian Games and World Games.
I sincerely hope you will consider this proposal
Yours Faithfully,

Very quietly she slipped into the kitchen and came back with the meat. She threw the meat as far as she could
into the corner of the garden. The wolf raised its head, sniffed the air,and then slowly walked towards the meat.
Mrs.Clarke rushed to the pram, picked up her baby, and ran into the house as fast as she could. She locked the door
and held her baby tightly, her heart beating wildly. But she knew she couldn't stay inside forever. She had to call
the police.
It struck Mrs.Clarke that children would soon be coming down the road on their way back to school.Panic
welled up inside her again. She peeked out of the window and saw the wolf still feasting on the meat. With trembling
hands, she dialed the police number. As she waited for the police to arrive, she kept an eye on the wolf, praying that
no children would appear. Finally, the sound of police sirens filled the air.The officers quickly surrounded the
garden and managed to capture the wolf without any further incident.Mrs.Clarke let out a long sigh of relief,
grateful that the danger had passed.
“Afternoon:Sun Island&Ice and Snow World(day&night views).”
(Siberian Tiger Park)和一个冰雪节(Ice and Snow World)。
根据WHAT'S INCLUDED部分最后一行列出的服务“24/7 helpline for while you are
Nora Langdon
根据文章第一段第二句“Driven by the physical decline she was experiencing,.she began
her journey to rebuild her strength.”
Now,at82,she trains three days a week, for three to four hours. She
follows a strict diet..”
她在文章最后表示“All I want to do is inspire others to get up and do things'”(我只想激励其他人行动起来做点
It's never too late to start,”(开始永远不嫌晚)这一道理。A选项“三思而后行”强调谨慎,与故事主旨不符;
They have recently studied how short-form videos reshape our brains and
F“Here's how you can create a new chapter in your life”完美地承接了上文关于面对困境的论
并且后文“Use that mental line to give yourself courage to be better'”对这个选项做补充解释。
A选项“Leam From
C选项“And that wasn't your fault''与前面的“我们当时己经尽力了,
G项“Focus on practical steps instead of meaningless attempts'”(专注切实步骤,而非无意义
41.A.discussing前文提到“a group of engineering seniors gathered“the exam about to start in minutes'”,描绘
Some talked of jobs they already had;others talked of
those they would soon.”
42.C.confidence后文“With four years of college study behind them, they felt prepared to.the world'以及预
43.C.land固定搭配land jobs意为“找到工作”,与前文“Some talked of jobs they already had,构成并列
45.B.easy后文关键信息The professor had allowed them to bring any books or notes'',教授允许带资料考
