We always use body language in our daily life. When we have a conversation with someone, we may use more body language than words. However, the same body language may mean different things in different countries. That’s why people sometimes do not understand each other correctly.
Pointing to one part of the body can mean differently in different cultures. For example, in the USA, people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, in Europe it means “He or she is stupid or something is wrong with his or her head.”

The meaning of gestures can also change over time. In the 1960s, the V sign meant “peace”. However, during World War II, it meant “victory”. In Greece, it is a very insulting (侮辱性的) sign.

C
Do your parents understand you? Maybe you want to stay up late finishing a fun game or talking with classmates, but they say, “Bedtime!” Maybe you love loud music, but they shout, “Turn it down!” Sometimes their worries seem small to you, and your hobbies feel confusing (难以理解的) to them.
Here is the reason. Your parents grew up in a different time with different rules. Many of their habits come from their own experiences. Maybe they worry about things you don’t even notice, like your sleep quality or hearing health. That’s why they can’t fully understand you sometimes. But there are simple ways to build a bridge between you and them.
First, try to put yourself in their shoes. Maybe when your parents were children, their parents were very strict with them. They might think being strict is the best way to love you. Even if you feel it’s not fair (公平的), they’re just giving you the care.
Listen carefully when your parents talk. Don’t just wait to speak; find out how they really feel. If they tell you to dress warmly, it’s not to nag (唠叨)—they just don’t want you to catch a cold. You can learn what is important to them. Then you can have a good talk with them.
Also, read books and watch films about families. In these stories, you’ll see how other kids solve small problems with their parents. You might pick up new ideas to compromise with your parents.
Sharing your thoughts (想法) clearly can also help. Tell your parents why you think that way—for example, why staying up 15 minutes late is important to you. Speak calmly, don’t shout. If you still don’t agree, that’s OK. Differences don’t have to break your bond (情感纽带); you can agree to disagree and still love each other.
Most of all, remember this: your parents just want to protect you. Sometimes, they make rules but don’t tell you the reasons. They think it’s “for your own good”, but they don’t know how to explain it well. It’s not because they don’t care about you—it’s because they love you more than you may realize.
21.Why can’t parents understand kids sometimes?
A.They don’t care about kids’ hobbies.
B.They want to make kids feel unfair.
C.They refuse to listen to kids’ ideas.
D.They grew up in a different time with different rules.
22.“Put yourself in their shoes” in paragraph 3 means ________
A.wear parents’ shoes B.try to understand parents’ feelings
C.follow parents’ rules without questions D.argue with parents calmly
23.Which way is NOT mentioned to get on well with parents?
A.Listening to your parents carefully. B.Reading books and watching films about families.
C.Helping your parents do the chores. D.Sharing your thoughts clearly.
24.What does the underlined word “compromise” mean in the passage?
A.Argue loudly. B.Reach an agreement.
C.Refuse to talk. D.Follow others directly.
25.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.For Your Own Good B.How to Make Rules
C.Building Bridges with Parents D.What Strict Parents

Self-driving cars do not have people telling them what to do. 26 That is learning about the environment, deciding what to do next, and taking action.
First, the car needs to know what is around it. It uses many different sensors (传感器) to do this. These sensors, such as cameras and radar are like the car’s “eyes”. 27 The sensors also help the car know where and how fast it is going.
28 This is where “Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X)” comes in. This technology connects a self-driving car with people and things. It also allows the car to go online. All these things help the car “talk” with the outside world and get the latest road information.
After receiving the information, the car needs to read it has to “think” and decide what to do. So it combines (合并) the information from all sensors. This process (过程) is called multi-sensor fusion (多传感器融合). Machine learning plays an important role here because it helps the car recognize people and objects. 29
Finally, to carry out decisions, the car uses drive-by-wire technology. 30 This makes different parts of the car respond (反应) quickly. The car also uses less oil this way, which is good for the environment.
A.Then, the car can decide when to stop, go, or turn.
B.They move themselves about safely by doing three things right.
C.Cool technologies help self-driving cars “see”, “talk” and “think”.
D.They allow the car to “see” things such as people and traffic lights.
E.Besides knowing what is around it and where it is going, a self-driving car makes plans ahead to avoid traffic accidents.
F.It allows the car to give orders to its wheels, brakes (刹车) and engine in the form of electronic signals.

If we look at someone 36 (else) body, we can often tell how they are feeling by 37 (they) body signals. So 38 (read) body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
In case you don’t think that learning how 39 (understand) and use body language is important, here 40 (be) some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say; and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone (语气) and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we 41 (receive) is from their body language.
