Topic: Designing your dream home
Textbook Reference: Grade 7 Unit 1, Pages 17-18
I. Teaching Plan
Subject 7B Unit 1 Home sweet home
Topic Task: My Dream Home
II. Teaching Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Language Ability: Organize ideas logically to describe a dream home; Write a coherent article using "There be", prepositions, and descriptive adjectives.
Cultural Awareness: Express personal values regarding living environments .
Thinking Quality: Critically analyze what makes a home "dreamy" beyond material facilities . Creatively design a home layout that solves a specific problem (e.g., for an elderly family member, or eco-friendly) and justify their design choices logically.
Learning Ability: Use checklists for self-assessment; Manage the full writing process (Plan-Draft-Revise-Edit).
III. Key and Difficult Points
Key Points: Structuring the article (Intro-Body-Conclusion); Using target grammar accurately in context.
Difficult Points:
· Moving from "listing facilities" to "expressing feelings and values" (Thinking Quality).
· Logically justifying why certain designs are chosen (Critical Thinking).
· Integrating the "Further study" quotes meaningfully into the conclusion.
IV. Teaching Methods & Aids
Methods: Process Writing Method, Project-based Learning.
Aids: Sample essay, Assessment checklist, Drawing paper.
V. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Planning (Pre-writing)
Brainstorm: "What makes a home 'dreamy'?" (Big garden, cinema room, robot helper, sea view).
Analyze the sample essay "My Dream Home" (Page 17).
· Identify the order: Outside -> Inside -> Special rooms -> Feelings.
· Note the use of "There will be..." (Future tense for dreams) or general present for description.
Sketch & Outline: Students draw a quick sketch of their dream home and list key features in bullet points.
Question Chain (Thinking Quality):
Q1: Which one is a better home? Why? (Encourage diverse answers).
Q2: Is a big house always a "dream home"? What if there is no love inside?
Q3: Look at the quote in our textbook (Page 17): "A good home is made, not bought." What does it mean?
Outcome: Students realize a "Dream Home" is not just about rooms and sizes, but about people, activities, and feelings. This sets the tone for deep writing.
Step 2: Drafting (While-writing)
Students write the first draft individually.
Teacher circulates to assist with vocabulary (e.g., swimming pool, study, machine) and sentence structure.
Remind students to use:
· There be structure.
· Prepositions of place.
· Adjectives (comfortable, modern, spacious).
Step 3: Revising & Editing (Post-writing)
Self-check: Use the checklist:
1. Did I describe the rooms?
2. Did I use prepositions correctly?
3. Is the spelling correct?
Peer-edit: Swap drafts. Give one compliment and one suggestion.
Final Copy: Students rewrite the article neatly, optionally adding their drawing.
Step 4: Presentation & Assessment
Gallery Walk: Display the articles and drawings on the wall.
Students walk around, read, and vote for the "Most Creative Home" and "Best Description".
Teacher summarizes common strengths and areas for improvement.
Step 5: Further Study & Sublimation
Read the three sayings:
1. East or west, home is best.
2. A good home is made, not bought.
3. Home is the starting place of love, hope and dreams.
Creation: Create your own slogan or modify one to summarize your writing.
Example Student Output: "Big or small, home is where love calls." or "My home is the start of my green dream."
VI. Homework
Submit the final version of the article and drawing.
Record a 1-minute video tour of their "Dream Home" (using the drawing as a background) and share it with the class.
Reflection: Complete the "Result" section in the textbook Assessment (Weak/Good/Wonderful) and write one sentence about what you learned about "Home" today.
