Suddenly, his son cried “Look!” Gelinne looked up just in time to see a small aircraft a few hundred yards away, coming down. As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a former sailor, realized it would land in the river. Without hesitation, he ran down to the waterfront. The plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen river, far from shore, sinking. The pilot was standing on the wing. Gelinne knew from his previous training that even a few minutes in the icy water could kill the pilot. Gelinne tested the ice with his foot and decided not to take any chances walking on it. So he and his son, John, pulled two kayaks (皮划艇) out. “If it can float on the water, it can slide on the ice,” Gelinne said. The kayaks’ paddles (桨) proved too weak, so the pair tried using sticks to push the kayaks along. Their first attempts left them spinning in circles. But with effort, they made progress. When Gelinne reached the plane, the pilot was standing on a tail wing, surrounded by open water. Gelinne pushed his kayak off the ice and into the water, paddling toward the pilot and thinking, “What if he panics? What if I fall over?” With his son nearby, Gelinne focused on keeping the pilot calm, joking, “Just hang on to the kayak as if you were hugging your wife.” The pilot grabbed the kayak’s bow. Gelinne knew he had to get the pilot onto the shelf of unbroken ice. But each time Gelinne tried, the kayak broke through the ice. He needed help. Soon a police officer arrived and radioed for help. A boat from the local Department of Natural Resources appeared. It picked up the pilot, Steve, and rushed him to safety, who would be treated for minor injuries. Later the boat returned to help Gelinne, exhausted, to shore. The boat had arrived just in time, Gelinne recalled. “I’m 60 years old,” he said. “There was no way I could get him to shore.” Still, he was satisfied. 4. What can be inferred from Gelinne’s first reaction? A. He got into a total panic. B. He had rich life experience. C. He was not good at prediction. D. He was an aeroplane enthusiast. 5. What can we learn from paragraph 4? A. The pilot was nearly frozen to death. B. The kayaks got stuck in the floating ice. C. The rescue was tougher than expected. D. The plane sank to the bottom of the river. 6. Why did Gelinne need help to return? A. His kayak was broken. B. He fell into the river accidentally. C. He was too tired to go ashore. D. His paddles were frozen in the river. 7. Which of the following can best describe Gelinne? A. Honest and independent. B. Weak but ambitious. C. Generous but clumsy. D. Helpful and humorous. C In his book The Darkness Manifesto, Johan Eklöf, a bat scientist and environmentalist, points out that when lights are on around the clock, in cities, the countryside or even offshore, the pace of daily life of all beings on the Earth changes. While the animals active at night are the most affected by too much lighting, few creatures on the planet remain untouched. Early in the 21st century, astronomers established a scale (等级) to assess the level of worthless artificial light at observing sites. Sky glow, which significantly affects the activity of studying the stars, stops all humanity’s view of the night sky — just as though a careless individual had “used a dirty cloth to wipe the window facing the universe”. The LED, a cheap, energy-efficient technology that led to an increase of outdoor lights, could also be a solution to our too much light, he writes. So, with greater awareness, a host of better-designed lighting products — downward-facing light sources and the like — we can reduce the amount of artificial light that ends up being scattered into the atmosphere. Throughout our history of evolution, humans have been afraid of the dark, and in culture, we now consider light as a symbol of prosperity. In brief chapters, Eklöf lays out the psychology and philosophy behind the spread of lighting. Accepting the darkness isn’t going to be easy. But even before you finish this book, you will step out of your home at dusk sometime and you will become aware of the useless lighting in your own neighbourhood. Thankfully, Eklöf’s last chapter is a statement of practical points to make friends with the darkness, which, he assures us, is “merely a walk or a turned-off phone”. He asks us to notice how the sun gives way to the moon and the stars. From turning off the lights when we leave a room to allowing our backyards to rest in darkness at night, we can all do our bit to try to save this still too brightly lit planet. 8. What is one of the results of too much lighting according to the text? A. Less creatures on the planet. B. The sharp rise of temperature. C. The prosperity of a region. D. Disturbed daily life of most animals. 9. What does Eklöf say in brief chapters? A. Why humans spread lights. B. How humans accept darkness. C. Where humans need light sources. D. When humans should turn off lights. 10. What does Eklöf indicate in his last chapter? A. Humans should develop energy-efficient technology. B. Humans should keep the Earth darker. C. Humans must take advantage of sun light. D. Humans should avail of the moon and the stars. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Lighten animals’ life B. Value light in the daytime C. Make full use of artificial light D. Act to fight against light pollution D The pursuit (追逐) of power — which I define here as the ability to direct, control or influence the behavior of others or the ability to control access to resources — affects nearly every aspect of the lives of group-living animals. Winners in the struggle for power get more food, or better, safer living quarters, and sometimes they get a combination of such spoils. During the breeding season, male sticklebacks (刺鱼) have territory consciousness and take on a bright red color on their body that attracts females. Dutch biologist Niko Tinbergen discovered that if you show a male stickleback fish almost anything that’s red, it attacks. In time, though, scientists realized that how one animal behaves is affected by what its competitor does. Animals assess potential competitors, spy on others, change their behaviors when they’re watched, and more. When Ryan Earley joined as a doctor, he set his sights on exploring the nature of power in swordtails (剑尾鱼). In an experiment involving one-way mirrors, earley discovered that swordtail spies avoid interacting with the winner of a contest they’ve watched. When it comes to interacting with males they’ve seen lose, the fish follow an interesting rule: if a loser puts up somewhat little resistance, go after him; but if he has courage and puts up the good fight before eventually giving in, stay away from him. Thomas Bugnyar and his colleagues have studied the crows at the Konrad Lorenz Field Station in the Austrian Alps, and found that victims of attack often give off defensive calls that attract crow audience members to come to their aid. They recorded victims giving a defensive call, and when watching the tapes, they found that crows adjust their defensive calls depending on who’s watching and listening. Victim call rates were highest when potential friends were in the audience. Even more remarkably, victims reduced their call rate when their competitors had potential partners in the audience. Power struggles take place on the land, underground, in the air and in the water on every continent and have been studied in detail in hundreds of species. 12. What does the underlined word “spoils” in paragraph 1 probably refer to? A. Affections. B. Behaviors. C. Abilities. D. Benefits. 13. Why do male sticklebacks attack red things? A. They are usually cheated by them. B. They regard them as their competitors. C. They mistakenly think them as their food. D. They consider them as a symbol of loser. 14. When will crows make the highest-rate defensive calls? A. The audience are far from them. B. They meet with other species’ attack. C. Potential friends are among the audience. D. Partners of their competitors are watching them. 15. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Animals’ different behaviors. B. Animals’ social life. C. Animals’ fighting strategies. D. Animals’ power struggles. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The meaning and power of smell Research into smell has never ended and in fact, there are so many interesting findings with regard to this sensation. ___16___ Commonly, a smell connected with a good experience can please us, while an odour (气味) bonded with a bad memory may disgust us. Many people noted that their olfactory (嗅觉的) preferences were based on emotional associations. Such associations can be so powerful that odours generally labeled unpleasant become agreeable, and those generally considered sweet become disagreeable for particular individuals.  ___17___ One respondent believes there is no true emotional bonding without smelling a loved one. Infants recognize their mothers’ odours soon after birth. Individuals were able to distinguish by the smell of clothing worn by their partners from similar clothing worn by other people.  Despite its importance to our emotional and sensory lives, smell is probably the most undervalued sense. While our olfactory powers are not as fine as those of certain animals, they are remarkably sensitive. ___18___ Smell, however, is a highly elusive phenomenon. Odours, unlike colours, can’t be named in many languages because the specific vocabulary simply doesn’t exist. “It smells like...”, we have to say when describing an odour, struggling to express our olfactory experience. ___19___ There is no effective way to capture or store them over time.  ___20___ Smells considered offensive in some cultures may be acceptable in others. Therefore, our sense of smell is a means of interacting with the world. The study of the cultural history of smell is indeed an investigation into the essence of human culture. A. Nor can odours be recorded. B. Odours are also essential signals in social bonding. C. Besides odours are granted different cultural values. D. Human’s perception of smell facilitates the spread of human culture. E. Our noses can perceive odours present in extremely small quantities. F. Everyone knows that smell can cause strong emotional responses. G. Some people’s preference for a particular odour was influenced by their parents. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Getting a story or a book published is difficult for most ambitious authors. Mrs Taylor, a nurse at the local hospital, worked tirelessly to support the family after the passing of Sarah’s father. Sarah, a bright and empathetic girl, loved to help her mother and dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, their financial constraints made it challenging to consider medical school. Mrs Taylor often worked night shifts, leaving Sarah to care for the house. Despite her busy schedule, Mrs Taylor always found time to help Sarah with her studies, instilling in her the value of education and hard work. Sarah, in turn, excelled in school, especially in science subjects, driven by her ambition and her mother’s support. One day, Sarah learned about a prestigious science fair that offered a significant scholarship. She saw it as her chance to pursue her dream, but the project required resources they couldn’t afford. Determined, Mrs Taylor picked up extra shifts, while Sarah started tutoring younger students for extra income. Their neighbors, aware of their struggle and Sarah’s aspirations, started a small fund to help. The local community center offered space for Sarah to work on her project. She decided to focus on a health-related innovation, inspired by her mother’s nursing experience. As the science fair approached, Sarah’s project showed promise, but she worried about the competition from wealthier schools. Mrs Taylor, however, remained her pillar of strength, encouraging her to believe in her abilities. The night before the fair, Mrs Taylor sat down with Sarah, handing her a small gift — a stethoscope (听诊器) that belonged to Sarah’s father, also a doctor. It was a symbol of belief in her future. 注意: 1.续写词数应150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 The day of the science fair was a whirlwind of excitement and nerves. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Following the fair, Sarah and Mrs Taylor faced an unexpected turn of events. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语 (120分钟 150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1.Where are the flowers now? The kayaks’ paddles (桨) proved too weak so the pair tried using sticks to push the kayaks along. It picked up the pilot Steve, and rushed him to safety, who would be treated for minor injuries. Later the boat returned to help Gelinne, exhausted, to shore. The boat had arrived just in time, Gelinne recalled. “I’m 60 years old,” he said. “There was no way I could get him to shore.” Still, he was satisfied. 4 What can be inferred from Gelinne’s first reaction? 7. Act to fight against light pollution 【答案】8. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“In his book The Darkness Manifesto, Johan Eklöf, a bat scientist and environmentalist, points out that when lights are on around the clock, in cities, the countryside or even offshore, the pace of daily life of all beings on the Earth changes. (在其著作《黑暗宣言》中,约翰·埃克洛夫(一位蝙蝠研究专家和环保主义者)指出,当城市、乡村乃至近海地区全天都有灯光亮起时,地球上所有生物的日常生活节奏都会发生改变。而那些在夜间活动的动物受到过多灯光影响最为严重,但地球上几乎没有任何生物能完全不受影响。)”可知,过度照明会导致的一个后果是使大多数动物的日常生活受到干扰。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“In brief chapters, Eklöf lays out the psychology and philosophy behind the spread of lighting. (在简短的章节中,埃克洛夫阐述了照明传播背后的心理学和哲学原理。)”可知,埃克洛夫在简短的章节中说明了人类为何会点亮灯火。故选A。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Thankfully, Eklöf’s last chapter is a statement of practical points to make friends with the darkness, which, he assures us, is “merely a walk or a turned-off phone”. He asks us to notice how the sun gives way to the moon and the stars. From turning off the lights when we leave a room to allowing our backyards to rest in darkness at night, we can all do our bit to try to save this still too brightly lit planet. 根据第一段“In his book The Darkness Manifesto, Johan Eklöf, a bat scientist and environmentalist, points out that when lights are on around the clock, in cities, the countryside or even offshore, the pace of daily life of all beings on the Earth changes. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. A Nor can odours be recorded. B. Odours are also essential signals in social bonding. C. Besides, odours are granted different cultural values. D. Human’s perception of smell facilitates the spread of human culture. E. Our noses can perceive odours present in extremely small quantities. F. Everyone knows that smell can cause strong emotional responses. G. Some people’s preference for a particular odour was influenced by their parents. 【答案】16. F 17. B 18. E 19. A 20. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 The day of the science fair was a whirlwind of excitement and nerves. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Following the fair, Sarah and Mrs Taylor faced an unexpected turn of events. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The day of the science fair was a whirlwind of excitement and nerves. Her project not only showcased her scientific spirit but also her deep understanding of real-world healthcare challenges. Following the fair, Sarah and Mrs Taylor faced an unexpected turn of events. Sarah’s project won the top prize, securing the scholarship she needed. But the surprises didn’t end there.
