Why I Don’t Tell My Parents
Nowadays, many teenagers don’t want to talk with their parents. I have the same problem as them. So I decide to write something down.
I’m facing two problems recently. I can’t catch up with some subjects at school, and I had a fight with my best friend. I don’t know how to make up with him.
I don’t share these problems with my parents because they’re always impatient when I talk. What’s worse, they often blame me—like saying I’m not working hard enough at study.
Actually, I hope they can give me useful advice on both my lessons and the friendship. Also, a little encouragement would make me feel much more confident.

【原文】 I’m a big fan of films and among the films I’ve watched, I love The BFG best. It is based on a novel written by British writer Roald Dahl. The film is about a little girl named Sophie and a giant man. Little Sophie is caught by the giant man and brought to a new world where he lives. After that, many interesting stories happen. And they develop a friendship. The film is so interesting and imaginative that I would never get bored with watching it.
听短文,回答以下各小题。
【原文】 It is reported that not getting enough sleep can cause problems in students’ study. Many students fall asleep in class or while doing their homework. So they get lower grades than those who get enough sleep. Many scientists think middle school students should have about nine hours’ sleep a night. As for the students who feel nervous and forgetful, most of them don’t get enough sleep at night.
Why aren’t students getting enough sleep? Most students have one of the following reasons: too much homework, a mobile phone or a computer in their bedrooms. So many students can’t fall asleep before 11:00 p.m. But they have to get up early for school the next day.

Music is more than just a way to relax. It is a powerful tool that can change how we think and feel. Yet, most of us do not make full use of it.
We already know that music can influence our feelings—reduce our pain, cheer us up or make us cry. But over the past few years, research at the University of Bergen, Norway, suggests it can change our thoughts. In one study, people were asked to listen to heroic or sad-sounding music while their minds wandered (游离). The results were clear: the cheerful music made people full of energetic thoughts, while sad music brought calmer or negative ones. This doesn’t just happen by chance. It matters for our mental health.
Studies find we spend nearly half our waking hours daydreaming. During this mental wandering, our brains often get into negative thoughts—like late-night worries or regrets—that lower our happiness.
But why do these thoughts have such a powerful hold on us? Recent brain research discovers the answer: they activate (激活) some of the same brain regions that process physical pain. The good news is music provides a natural solution. When we take an active part in music by tapping along, or moving to the beat, we change our brain from negative cycles into focusing on the present mind. This creates a healthy “mental reset” that breaks these harmful cycles.
The power of music goes beyond the mind. Studies show that being active in music during small physical hurts, like a brief pressure on the fingernail, makes people feel less pain. This shows music can be a natural way to ease pain and make us mentally stronger. It is time for society to value music’s power not only when we’re sick, but also in our everyday lives.
