Passage1
“When side by side two rabbits go, who can tell the buck (雄兔) from the doe (雌兔)?” China’s Yang Jingru and Li Jinzi “played the buck and the doe” in the women’s 1,500 m short track speed skating (短道速滑) event of the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
They used the classic “rabbit strategy (策略)”. The key to the “rabbit strategy” is teamwork of two skaters. One skater runs very fast from the start, while the other stays behind. This is different from the usual 1,500 m speed skating strategy of keeping the same speed and then speeding up in the last few turns.
Using the “rabbit strategy”, after the first turn, Yang suddenly skated at full speed. She ran one turn faster than the other skaters and stayed at the back of the group, but nobody noticed it.
Working with Yang, Li changed between the front and the back in the first half of the race. This made the other skaters wonder who was the “leading rabbit”. In fact, when the bell rang and showed that there was only one turn to go, everyone had two turns left except Yang.
The two Chinese short track speed skaters cleverly used the “rabbit strategy”. They won both the gold medal and the silver medal, making it a classic example in the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
1.How does the writer start the text?
A.By asking a question. B.By showing a picture.
C.By telling a story. D.By giving an example.
2.What’s the key to the “rabbit strategy”?
A.Practice. B.Skill. C.Teamwork. D.Chance.
3.Why did Li change between the front and the back in the first half of the race?
A.To catch up with others. B.To show her skating skills.
C.To win the game. D.To give other skaters the wrong idea.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.The “Rabbit Strategy” B.The Buck and the Doe
C.The Winter Youth Olympic Games D.The Strategies in the Olympic History

Passage1
Cooperation has got attention in many schools, possibly because good teamwork spirit is of great importance to successful groups. It is believed that doing team sports is the best way to teach cooperation. In the team environment, members need to communicate with each other, which can prepare students for both schoolwork and future jobs. It can also encourage students to follow team rules. Students are more likely to help each other as well. Teamwork spirit is not born but built. Here are things you can do to improve teamwork spirit:
▲Communicate well with each other
When you’re meeting together, let everyone speak and listen to each other carefully. Ask them questions to get them to talk so that everyone can communicate well with each other.
▲Work together on projects
Let everyone help make decisions about the project. Decide the team goal and divide the project into steps. Celebrate every win as a win for the whole team.
▲Build trust and respect
It’s okay to do something wrong, but bravely say sorry to make the situation better. This helps build trust in your team. Respect others’ work and encourage everyone to do better.
Much of the work in today’s world is completed in teams. For students, team sports, singing in a chorus (合唱团) and joining in unpaid community (社区) service are the ways to learn about cooperation.

Passage2
In the coastal city of Laguna in Brazil, there is a special fishing team. It is made up of fishermen and dolphins! They work together to catch fish called “mullet”.
Mauricio Cantor from Oregon State University, US, studied this partnership. As he told Science News Explores, it started more than a century ago.
“The dolphins are good at finding fish and driving them to the coast,” Cantor said. “The fishermen are good at catching the fish.” Once the fish are in the nets, dolphins can move in and get some for themselves.
Cantor’s study described how fishermen and dolphins give messages to each other when fishing. When dolphins find fish, they drive the fishermen to the coast. Then they raise their backs in front of the fishermen to tell them to cast nets. Fishermen will then cast the nets right away, or they may lose the best chance. Fishermen need to be well-trained to understand what the dolphins mean.
The study found that fishermen are 17 times more likely to catch fish by working with dolphins. At the same time, these dolphins have 13% higher possibility to live than other dolphins.
“Human-animal partnerships weren’t common throughout history. But they give us an idea of how positive our human interactions can be with nature,” Cantor said.
1.Why is the fishing team special?
A.Because it is made up of dolphins.
B.Because it can catch the fish called “mullet”.
C.Because it started more than a century ago.
D.Because it has a partnership between dolphins and fishermen.
2.What is the right order of catching mullets?
A.a→b→c→d B.a→b→d→c C.b→a→c→d D.b→a→d→c
3.What does the writer want to tell us in the passage?

C.Fishing in the sea is not difficult if you find right ways.
D.Humans should protect everything in nature.
4.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.Fishing in the sea B.Dolphins and mullets
C.A special partnership D.Good friends

Passage4
The Paralympic Games are an international sports event for athletes with disabilities. Like the Olympic Games, they are held every four years and include many sports, such as swimming, running, and cycling. During the games, many athletes compete with a guide.
Santos lost her sight in her teens. Now at the age of 42, she holds the women’s world record in the 100 meter dash for blind or nearly blind athletes. When she races with her guide, Garcia, he runs to her left. He holds a short tether(拴绳) in his right hand, while Santos holds the other end in her left.
Since 2012, most Paralympic guides have received medals(奖牌) with their athletes. However, their teamwork often goes beyond the finish line. While training daily with Santos, Garcia is also preparing for the Olympics. “I prefer being a guide,” said Garcia. “I feel more pressure(压力) to avoid mistakes and help my teammate succeed.”
A similar story comes from American para cyclist Hannah and her guide, Skyler. Every time Hannah climbs on a bike behind Skyler, Skyler reaches back to hold her hand. “It reminds us we’re in this together,” said Skyler.
Hannah and Skyler follow the same training plan. When training gets too hard, Hannah remembers she is working not just for herself, but for Skyler too. Skyler believes that if she hadn’t begun guiding, she would never have shone so much in sports. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose her,” she said.

Passage5
Being a team player is a necessary part of life. Whether it is just within your family, on a sports team or at work, there are few jobs we can do all by ourselves. It goes with a saying that teamwork plays an important role in our team’s development. In my opinion, a team means everyone achieves more together. No one can be the best at everything. When all of us combine our talents, we can be the best.
Well, in fact, good team players share the following qualities. They are happy and optimistic. They celebrate the success and learn from the failure. They are helpful and generous (慷慨的). They are easy going and try to help other teammates. What’s more, good team players prefer to cooperate rather than compete with their teammates.
To make the team work best, it is important to make good use of the team members’ strengths. And then we can find the roles that fit them well. Things like this can be found almost everywhere. For example, in a soccer team, every player has his role. A team works best because every member of the team has his role. To achieve the best balance, there should be a balance of different roles: an expert to solve many problems, a leader to make decisions, a thinker to offer ideas and ways, a doer to finish tasks and get things done.
There’s a saying that goes, “No one is perfect but a team can be.”
1.What does the underlined word combine mean?
A.Get together. B.Learn from.
C.Find out. D.Show up.
2.Who might the speaker think is a good team player?
A.A person who has many hobbies.
B.A person who always helps others.
C.A person who likes asking questions.
D.A person who likes competing with others.
3.How does the speaker explain the importance of teamwork in Paragraph 3?
A.By telling a story. B.By comparing facts.
C.By asking a question. D.By giving an example.
4.Which idea will the speaker agree with?
A.No team can be perfect. B.Someone can be perfect.
C.Each team member is important. D.An expert can solve all problems.
Passage6
Do you work in teams at school? I often do. I enjoy teamwork because sharing ideas excites me. Of course, activities aren’t always easy. Here are step-by-step tips for smoother teamwork.
Know the goals
Make sure everyone understands the project’s goals. Check the teacher’s instructions carefully and ask questions if unclear. There’s a popular saying: If you don’t know where you’re going, you probably won’t get there.
Pick roles
Everyone should have a role in the team. For example, there should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions. There might be a note-taker who writes down the team’s ideas during the meetings, and a time-keeper to control the time. There might be a fact-checker or group speaker.
When picking roles, think about what each member is good at or enjoys doing.
Divide the work
For large projects, the work can be divided into smaller tasks. Then you can choose tasks that you do well or enjoy. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. It’s good to try new things, even if they’re difficult!
Make a plan
After dividing tasks, create a plan. Use a calendar to list tasks with deadlines (截止日期).
Follow the plan strictly
And if you can’t finish your part on time, tell the others as soon as possible.
Try to be positive and follow the advice above in order.
Everything is easier when you’re enjoying yourself in the team.
1.Which role is responsible for recording ideas?
A.Leader. B.Time-keeper. C.Note-taker. D.Group speaker.
2.What does the writer think about trying difficult tasks in teamwork?
A.It wastes time. B.It’s not necessary.
C.It’s encouraged. D.It improves skills.
3.What is the benefit of being positive in teamwork?
A.It helps make plans. B.It reduces the need for a leader.
C.It allows everyone to work alone. D.It makes tasks easier and more enjoyable.
4.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To list different roles in a team. B.To give advice on improving teamwork.
C.To explain why teamwork is important. D.To show that team activities aren’t easy.
Passage7
Do you have a good memory? Can you remember English words you learnt last week? Or have you forgotten the deadline of your project? Many of us often say, “My brain doesn’t work well”. Maybe you can try a new way of training your brain—learning with your team members.
“Teamwork makes our brains work better,” said the memory expert Jonathan Hancock. “Being part of a team has many advantages for remembering things.” In his memory research, he finds that the participants (参与者) in a team always behave better than people who work independently. That’s because they have less personal pressure and more time to think over each question.
But there’s even more going on according to Canadian researchers, who’ve shown that our brains get a natural improvement when they’ve got company (陪伴). Their study suggests two reasons. First, when we’re with people who are trying to remember something, we can easily feel that tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon, so we also want to join in to challenge ourselves. Second, after knowing others can remember things well, we can be encouraged to make it, too.
To make better use of the power of team learning, you can use the contagion (传染效应) to awaken and improve memories. For example, go over new words together with your partners. Believe it or not, you’ll be amazed at your magic memory. Also, you can share the duty together. If you have many tasks to remember, ask your partner to remember the date of the school play while you’ re in charge of remembering project deadline. In this way, both of you will remember things more easily and deeply.
1.How does Jonathan Hancock support his idea in Paragraph 2?
A.By doing research. B.By giving an example.
C.By providing a form. D.By listing numbers.
2.Which of the following situations matches “tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon” in Paragraph 3 best?
A.You bite your tongue and lose words.
B.You lose control of the tip of your tongue.
C.You come up with an answer and express it quickly.
D.You think of something but can’t express it in words.
3.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Ideas of learning English new words.
B.Ways of sharing memory duty with partners.
C.Advice on improving memories by teamwork.
D.Research about remembering the project deadline.
4.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To introduce the results of some memory research.
B.To encourage people to use their brains more often.
C.To invite readers to take part in their research.
D.To ask readers to make use of teamwork to improve memories.
Passage8
Playing team sports like soccer and basketball is a great way for kids to keep moving and stay fit. These sports not only help their bodies but also give them important lessons for life.
First, team sports show kids how to work together. When they play on a team, they have to help each other. This teaches them to talk and support each other, which is helpful in all parts of life.
Next, playing team sports can make kids feel better about themselves and be more sure of their abilities. When kids help their team win, they will feel proud. This good feeling can help them believe in what they can do and make them feel better about who they are.
Also, team sports help kids learn to manage (管理) their time. Kids who play sports have to fit in school, practice, and games. Through teamwork, they learn that following discipline (纪律) is very important. This teaches them to understand what the most important thing is and use their time well.
Finally, being on a team is good for making friends and getting closer to people they have already known. For many kids, their teammates are like a second family.
So, team sports are really important for how kids grow up. They help their bodies, minds, and social life in ways that can make their whole life better.

A great team is more than just a group of people working together. It requires trust, communication, and a common goal. Here is a story about a great team.
Last year, our school held a science competition. My classmates and I formed a team called “Explorers”. Our goal was to design a small robot that could help clean the classroom. At first, we faced many problems. Tom, our designer, wanted to make the robot look cool, but Lily, our engineer, thought function was more important. They argued for a long time and couldn’t reach an agreement. As a result, we fell behind other teams.
Our team leader, Mike, didn’t get angry. Instead, he asked Tom and Lily to talk about their ideas separately. He said, “We are a team. Everyone’s ideas are valuable. Let’s put ourselves in each other’s shoes.” After listening to Mike’s advice, Tom and Lily started to understand each other. Tom agreed to focus on function first, and Lily promised to make the robot look nice.
With everyone working together, we made great progress. We met every afternoon to discuss our design and solve problems. When we faced technical difficulties, we asked our science teacher for help. Finally, our robot won the first prize in the competition.

A.All clever animals can work for humans to make life better.
B.Human-animal teamwork can create a win-win situation.
C.Fishing in the sea is not difficult if you find right ways.
D.Humans should protect everything in nature.
4.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.Fishing in the sea B.Dolphins and mullets
C.A special partnership D.Good friends
【答案】1.D 2.D 3.B 4.C

C.Find out. D.Show up.

Passage10
