Ladies and gentlemen,
On this beautiful Friday afternoon, every one of us is excited and pleased to be at the school graduation ceremony for the class of 2021. It’s my great honor to be here for my speech.
As a part of our school, I remember the enjoyable days I have spent with my friends and teachers during the past three years. We worked hard to be ready to graduate, but we didn’t do it alone. We should thank the following people.
To our teachers, thank you for so unselfishly sharing your time, talent and knowledge with us. Yes, we know it was your job to do it, but you went beyond the call of your duty. You always explained lessons to us patiently. You allowed us to enter your office after school for extra help when you could go home to spend time with your family. You always kept encouraging us whenever we wanted to give up. You taught us so much about life.
To our parents, thank you for supporting us in all kinds of ways. You woke us up each morning and made sure we were well fed and clothed for school. You helped us with our homework, paid our school fees, and listened to our problems. You always tried to give us enough space to learn how to work things out by ourselves. You really did so much for us.
To our school guards and cleaners, thank you for keeping our school safe and clean. Just because of you all, we could have a comfortable environment to study and live in.
To our principal (校长) and other school leaders, thank you for keeping things running so smoothly that our teachers could concentrate on us.

Time flies when you play on your smartphone. But when you get down to your study, you feel like one hour is like a year. Why are people so crazy about smartphones but easily bored with studying or working?
It’s all because of something called dopamine (多巴胺). It can make people feel good. Our brains release (释放) it when we eat good food, after we do some exercise or when we receive some prizes. The more dopamine is released, the happier people feel.
Compared with studying, playing on smartphones causes our brains to release more dopamine. For example, checking your phone leads to an increase of 400 percent in dopamine. But why?
When we are using our smartphones, we don’t know what we’ll see next, or who will express his or her opinions on our posts. This uncertainty makes the dopamine system active. We get excited wondering if we have comments (评论) from our friends. When the expectation is met, dopamine is released. And to get more dopamine, we continue checking our smartphones. Studying doesn’t provide such uncertainty, so we get bored much more easily.
Can we do something to change that? According to experts, we can change the screen colors. We can also set alarms to avoid using smartphones for too long.
As for studying, we could check our progress daily or weekly and reward (奖赏) ourselves for it. We could also look for interesting things that have something to do with the textbook. We could use what we have learned to make a difference in the real world. These will make the knowledge much more interesting.
8. How do we feel when we are studying according to Para. 1?
A. We are really happy. B. Time passes more slowly.
C. We become hungry easily. D. Playing on smartphones is boring.
9. When do our brains release dopamine?
A. Before we fall asleep. B. After we are punished.
C. Before we do some exercise. D. When we have delicious meals.
10. What does Para. 4 mainly tell us?
A. What dopamine is and how it influences our daily life.
B. Playing on smartphones is the best way to help us relax.
C. Studying is much more helpful than playing on smartphones.
D. Why more dopamine is released when we play on smartphones.
11. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To tell us how to look for interesting things.
B. To show how to make our study less boring.
C. To tell us why we should check our progress.
D. To show why we should reward ourselves.
D
CO₂ is naturally found in the air, but human activity has greatly increased the amount. The build-up of CO₂ is one of the main causes of global warming. To deal with this problem, scientists say large amounts of CO₂ must be removed from the air.
Many people around the world are working on ways of removing CO₂ from the air and storing it. But these methods are expensive and don’t capture (捕获) much CO₂.
Scientists in California have created a new material called COF-999, which can remove large amounts of CO₂ from the air. To test COF-999, the scientists filled a small tube (管) with the material. They then sent air from outside their lab through the tube for 20 days. Though there was CO₂ in the air outside, the air that came out of the tube had no CO₂ at all. The discovery was exciting for the scientists.
COF-999 has many advantages. It captures CO₂ about 10 times faster than other materials. The scientists say that half a pound of the material can pull as much CO₂ from the air as a tree can. But unlike trees, COF-999 can capture CO₂ even when it’s dark outside. Most importantly, COF-999 can be used over and over again. The scientists have already tested reusing the material up to 300 times. They believe it could be reused thousands of times.
Now, the scientists are still working on COF-999. They hope that soon it will be able to remove twice as much CO₂ as it does now. The scientists believe that COF-999 will be widely used in the future.
12. What do the underlined words “this problem” refer to?
A. The air. B. Human activity.
C. The cause. D. Global warming.
13. What does the third paragraph talk about?
A. How COF-999 was tested.
B. How COF-999 was created.
C. How much CO₂ was removed.
D. How important the discovery was.
14. Which of the following are the advantages of COF-999?
① It can be reused. ② It is simple to make.
③ It can capture CO₂ at night. ④ It works faster than other materials.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②④
15. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. The mystery of nature
B. A new material for capturing CO₂
C. A growing environmental problem
D. The influence of CO₂ on the environment

Clearly, the number one reason that people choose to work with a GPS unit is the feeling of freedom. With a GPS unit in your pocket or car, you can find your way easily. 16
Besides, having a GPS unit is like bringing every single map of the world along with you! It knows where famous buildings are and the best routes to them. And you will always know exactly where you are.
17 For example, a GPS unit may take you into a traffic jam, go offline if a satellite (卫星) fails, or run out of batteries (电池). Some GPS units may even take you around in circles, wasting your time.
While GPS has its advantages, many people still prefer traditional maps. 18 Because of this, people don’t need to worry about getting lost after running out of batteries. In this case, old-fashioned maps seem to be the winner for faraway places.
19 This makes it easy to mark destinations (目的地) or plan routes. You can even give the map away or let someone borrow it without fear of losing an expensive device (设备).
Even so, traditional maps also have some problems. They can get outdated and be easily broken. 20 And people need to bring their own light source and plan routes themselves.
In a word, both GPS and paper maps have their pros and cons, so it’s up to you to decide which is better to use.
A. They don’t require any power.
B. Maps are also easy to draw on.
C. They can also go missing unexpectedly
D. However, GPS has some disadvantages as well.
E. Humans used to use the stars to find their way.
F. If you do get lost, it will then quickly find a new route for you.

第三部分 书面表达 (共两节,满分30分)
第一节 阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。
Recently, I started to use an app to keep a record of my running. Each run I wanted to go a little farther, run a little faster and burn more calories (卡路里). Last night I finished an 8.3 km run in 46 minutes and burnt 468 calories. In comparison, my run two days ago was 8.6 km in 46 minutes with 483 calories burnt. This inner self-comparison left me feeling disappointed. I became so focused on the numbers that I forgot to consider what I achieved.
These tiny differences in numbers kept me away from the bigger picture: how did I actually feel after completing my most recent run? Well, honestly, I was completely tired out. What good is running to beat your top score if you don’t feel on top?
We should exercise for the purpose of building our confidence. And working out harder and faster may serve that purpose. But confidence building comes with being able to do more in our day- to- day life, experiencing less pain and more freedom in movement, and feeling good after a workout. Fitness should help us with our quality of life, the ability to sleep, good memory, among other things. Fitness should not just come with the eagerness for the success in numbers.
In our busy lives, we only have limited time for fitness. When we do physical exercise, we should value what feels good over what looks or sounds good. Sometimes what serves us and our health is coming home and doing a light workout, like going on a short bike ride. Sometimes what serves us is simply going to sleep at 9:30 p. m. instead of forcing ourselves into a workout. Apps of this kind are a great way for us to keep an eye on our health. But don’t read into the numbers to the point where you lose out on feeling proud that you are taking care of yourself. So my advice is: when you do physical exercise, make sure you feel good about yourself over feeling good about the numbers.
41. Why did the writer start to use the app?

42. What happened when he became too focused on the numbers?

43. According to the writer, what should be our purpose of doing exercise?

44. Why are apps of this kind a great way for us?

45. When you do physical exercise, which do you think is more important: feeling good about yourself or feeling good about the numbers? Why?
