I was lounging on the sofa, enjoying a cozy TV session with the kids, when my wife Lindsey burst into the room. “Jake, there’s a pig on our driveway!” she exclaimed. Our driveway was on the opposite side of the house, so we’d installed a security camera for just such occasions. Sure enough, it revealed a massive, four-legged creature wandering around. Moments later, we caught sight of it gently touching the window with his snout (口鼻部) and grunting softly.
“He’s adorable!” my 10-year-old daughter, Ella, squealed, “I’m going to say hello!” I cautioned her that we didn’t know if the pig was friendly, but before I could stop her, she was already out the door. To our relief, the colossal pig seemed perfectly content to be petted and fawned over (讨好). Ella pleaded to keep him, but I gently explained that we didn’t have enough space.
Disappointed though Ella was, Lindsey and I decided to send the pig back. I called a local farmer to see if the pig belonged to him. When I described the animal’s size and distinctive markings, he chuckled, confirming that it was definitely Kevin Bacon, who was probably just out looking for some company. The Hollywood actor’s name gave us all a good laugh. The farmer also told us Kevin enjoyed playing with kids.
We learned that the farmer was away on business and wouldn’t be able to return until the next day. He asked if we could walk Kevin home. “I’m not sure we’ll be able to get him to move,” I replied. “You could try luring (引诱) him with food,” the farmer suggested. He then mentioned that Kevin had a soft spot for Oreos (奥利奥饼干). Fortunately, we had some Oreos in the biscuit tin. I hoped it would be enough. Then Lindsey managed to fit Kevin with a dog leash (狗绳).

My friend Ollie found a super-cool treasure near his house — a little bird.
On my way to the park, I saw Ollie sitting on his steps, signaling me to be quiet. To my surprise, the cutest little bird was perched right on his shoulder! It seemed completely at ease! Ollie explained that it had hopped onto him without any fear. We figured it must be someone’s lost pet.
Ollie’s grandmother, Abuela, came out with a dish of water and suggested calling the animal shelter. When we got through, the man on the phone told us that no one had reported a missing bird recently. He advised us to put up “Found Bird” flyers in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, I suggested we also post Blue’s information and cute pictures on our local community’s online bulletin board, hoping the power of the internet would help. Abuela’s friend Michiko, who knew a lot about birds, brought a cage, some seeds and helpful advice. A wave of relief washed over Ollie when Michiko approved of the name “Blue” that Ollie had given her.
That afternoon, Ollie and I were busy making “Found Bird” flyers. Blue, perched happily on the edge of the table, provided a sweet soundtrack with her cheerful chirps. Abuela watched us with a warm smile, sighing softly, “I would miss Blue’s beautiful songs”. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity, Ollie looked up, his eyes full of hope.“Abuela,” he begged, his voice a little shaky, “if...if no one claims her, could we please keep her? I promise I’ ll be fully responsible” Looking at Ollie’s earnest face, then at the content little bird, Abuela finally nodded slowly. “Well,” she said firmly, “we must try our best to find her owner first.”
However, one flyer Ollie made was full of “accidents” — the picture of Blue was glued upside down, and the title mistakenly read “Found Bread”. He admitted he might have messed up a little on purpose, because he was conflicted between his desire to keep Blue and his responsibility to find her owner.
We put up all the correct flyers. After a month and a half with no response, Blue officially became a member of Ollie’s family, her cheerful songs filling their home with lasting joy.

I still remember that day well: it was a cold, dreary (沉闷的) day in late October. My son Gary and I had just finished setting out the last of our Halloween decorations. Although we only lived a few dozen miles outside of Indianapolis, our home might as well have been located in the remote wilderness for how isolated we were. With only a long, winding driveway connecting our home to a sleepy road, we weren’t expecting many visitors for Halloween in our neck of the woods.
I had just settled down for some hot cocoa and the evening news on TV when I heard Gary’s voice ring out from the outside. “Dad! I need your help Hurry!”
Throwing my shoes on, I rushed outside to see what was the matter. My feet crushed over wet red and orange leaves as I made my way over to the garbage cans at the end of the long driveway. I came to stop next to my son as I bent over panting, asking what was the matter between gasps of air. Barely taller than the trash can he was standing next to, he waved me over as we both peered into the trash can together.
Only seeing the pile of wet leaves we had raked together from earlier, I was about to scold Gary for playing a trick on me when, suddenly, I noticed some movement and rustling. Worried that it might be some dangerous animal, I went over to grab a rake that we had left on the lawn and slowly lowered it into the trash can with the stick-end first.
Suddenly, I could see the streaks of black and gray fur: a raccoon (浣熊)! After making eye contact with us, the raccoon began squeaking for our attention. It seemed cold, wet and miserable. Although I was initially against the idea of even touching the thing, Gary begged and pleaded (恳求) with me for us to help the creature. At last, I gave in to his pleading.

The Little Spider Prank That Changed Me
A few years ago, I was going through one of the most difficult periods of my life. I had been working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when I suddenly went blind. One minute I was serving a martini; the next, large black blobs were floating across my peripheral vision.
Then, over the next few hours, I was plunged into total darkness.
I have had a chronic eye condition since I was three years old: uveitis (葡萄膜炎), which causes inflammation inside the eye, and secondary glaucoma (青光眼), which involves damage to the optic nerve. In my mid-teens, I lost sight in my left eye; now, at 21 years old, the right eye followed suit.
To add insult to injury, a wave of economic uncertainty hit, leaving me broke and unemployed. I was forced to move out of London, the city I adored, and back in with my family in Berkshire. Losing my independence just after I graduated from university hadn’t been part of the plan.
The doctors didn’t know why my right eye had failed. They tried several treatments and I was waiting to see, for want of a better word, if the latest one would work. I’d already had a steroid injection into the back of my eye, which proved fruitless. I was then prescribed a huge dose of oral steroids — and if they didn’t work, my future options appeared limited. I had no idea if I would ever be able to see again.
I was envious that all my friends were moving forward with their lives: new relationships, new jobs, travelling. Everything I had thought my life was going to be had changed and my future felt like it was no longer in my own hands.
I felt lost and alone. My family was supportive, but I couldn’t help feeling like a burden. My brother, Sam, was the only one who didn’t treat me differently. He still made fun of me — he’d always loved pulling silly spider pranks (恶作剧) to make me shriek and jump as a kid — still expected me to pull my weight around the house, still included me in his plans. It was frustrating at first, but I came to realize that he was treating me normally because he believed in me.

We had a three-station self-service dog wash, which was extremely popular as the area has a lot of farms, and is close to a lot of hiking trails and has a large number of dog show enthusiasts.
A customer came in one day with three, yes, THREE full-grown Saint Bernard dogs to give them all baths. Fortunately, she is very organized; She brought them in one at a time, and it was in the fall, so it was safe for them to be in the car with the windows cracked for a longer time. She and her delightful pets spent somewhere around five to six hours in the store, cycling one dog at a time and using the same tub (桶) so the other two were open to other customers.
Unfortunately, one St. Bernard dog got a little too relaxed during her bath and leaned her roughly 130 lbs weight against the spigot (水龙头), causing the elbow joint (接合处) to bend and block the water flow. The customer apologized repeatedly, but my manager assured her it was OK. The customer switched the dog to another tub, and my manager took apart the affected spigot, removing the damaged elbow joint. With that in hand, he grabbed a few $20and gave them to me with the joint and a request to go to the only nearby store, where the boss has a lovely yellow dog, for a new one.
The boss walked by just as I was considering going to ask for help. He greeted me and asked how he could help. I explained I worked at a pet store and that we needed a new part for one of our dog wash tubs. Then I handed him the elbow joint. To my great disappointment, his store didn’t have this kind of elbow joint. What was worse, there were no other stores like this in the neighborhood. My store’s business was going really well, and being unable to buy this part would affect our operations—I was extremely anxious and didn’t know what to do.

For our long-service leave, my husband and I decided to travel around Tasmania with our camper trailer (野营拖车). We were coming all the way across Western Australia to get there — not exactly a “lap of the map”, but still a big trip. We’d packed our bikes, surfboards and our dog.
It was all going beautifully until we got to St Helens in Tasmania. We were looking forward to hitting the bike trails and the beach. But what was meant to be a fun day of mountain biking quickly turned into a stressful, late-night rescue when my husband broke his leg on the trail.
Thanks to the incredible local emergency services, he was located, rescued and airlifted to hospital. As I watched him being flown off the mountain by helicopter, relief flooded through me — and then reality hit. I was now solely responsible for the dog, the vehicle and the camper trailer still set up back at the campsite. Packing up the trailer was a two-person job. My family and friends were 4,000 km away in Western Australia. And my dog needed a walk!
The next day, new neighbours arrived at the campsite. Exhausted and worried, I managed a small smile as a man named Sam said hello and began setting up with his wife. I wondered what they thought — a solo woman with a dog, no partner in sight, and a camper trailer full of gear (齿轮).
Eventually, Sam’s curiosity got the better of him. He asked a few gentle questions and, after two days of silent stress, the whole story poured out.
Sam listened patiently, kindly. He nodded, said little, and returned to his own camp. That evening, he and his wife, Hillary, did something extraordinary. With no hesitation, they told me they’d pack everything up for me. “Tasmania has given us a warm hug, “they said. “Now we want to pass that hug on.”

【答案】One possible version:
After checking the route to the farm, we set off with a bag of treats. Kevin Bacon walked slowly beside us, his big ears flapping and eyes fixed on the Oreo bag in Ella’s hand. Every time she shook it, he let out a happy grunt and followed closely. The kids were laughing and petting him as we went down the road. At first, everything went well. But when we reached the steep hill near the farm, Kevin suddenly stopped. He sat down right in the middle of the path and wouldn’t move, no matter how many Oreos we offered. He just looked at us calmly, as if saying, “I’m tired.”
Suddenly, we realized there was only one Oreo left and it was impossible to find more food. Ella looked worried. “What are we going to do?” she asked. I had an idea. I broke the last cookie in half and put one piece a few steps ahead. Kevin got up and ate it. Then Lindsey tossed the other half a little farther. We kept doing this — step by step — until we finally reached the farm gate. Just then, the farmer arrived in his truck. He smiled and thanked us. As we walked home, we all agreed: it was the strangest, sweetest adventure we’d ever had.

【答案】 With Blue now a beloved family member, Ollie’s days were filled with joyful responsibility. Every morning, he woke up early to refill her seed bowl and fresh water, chatting softly as the little bird hopped onto his finger, chirping in response. After school, they’d sit on the porch steps — Blue perched on his shoulder, singing along while Ollie shared stories of class. He cleaned her cage diligently every weekend, and Abuela often baked cookies while humming to Blue’s cheerful tunes. The bird’s presence turned ordinary days warm, her songs weaving through their home like a sweet melody.
One sunny afternoon, a timid knock interrupted their peace. A girl around Ollie’s age stood at the door, clutching the crumpled “Found Bread” flyer. “I think this is my bird Sky,” she said, voice trembling, describing a tiny white spot under her wing. Ollie’s heart ached, but he gently fetched Blue. At the sight of the girl, Blue flew into her arms, chirping excitedly. Tears blurred Ollie’s eyes, but he smiled — sad to part, yet grateful Blue had found her way back to her true owner.

【答案】
We took a spare towel from the house and wrapped the raccoon like a furry baby. Holding it tightly in his arms, Gary brought it inside and placed it near the heater to warm up. Afraid that it might be hungry, Gary hurried to the kitchen to get some nuts and milk. The raccoon, which must have been very hungry, ate the food quickly. We ended up spending a happy Halloween night with this unexpected visitor. The next morning, unwilling though we were, seeing that the raccoon had fully recovered, we took it to the edge of the woods. After giving us one last look, the raccoon disappeared into the forest.
A year later, we spotted something moving in the woods in our backyard. We were so curious that we went to check it out. Hardly had we got near when the raccoon jumped out. It was exactly the one we saved the year before. Gary stepped forward and stroked it gently. Recognizing him, the raccoon wagged its tail merrily. It played with us for a moment before returning to the woods. If we hadn’t rescued it last year, we wouldn’t have experienced this happy reunion. This experience was deeply engraved in our minds and reminded us that it is of great significance to live in harmony with animals.

②由第二段首句内容“一年后,我们发现后院的树林里有东西在动。”可知,第二段可描写一年后与这只浣熊重逢的场景,它认出作者和儿子并互动,最后点明人与动物和谐相处的主题。

【答案】范文:
One evening Sam snuck in with a rustling bag of faint eight-legged movements. I tensed up the instant the soft rustle reached my ears — blindness had made me hyper-aware of every unexpected sound. Before I could react, something fuzzy brushed my arm, making me shriek and swat wildly. Sam’s triumphant voice rang out at once. He pressed the toy spider into my palm, teasing, “Still jumpy about eight-legged guys, even when you can’t see them?” I feigned annoyance but smiled, as he added playfully, “your shriek is still the funniest sound in the world,” his warm laughter lingering in the air.
His laughter fading away, I sat there and realized something profound. I had wallowed in self-pity for months, convinced that blindness had turned me into a burden. But Sam never treated me as a fragile invalid. He still teased me, still asked me to help wash the dishes, still invited me to his friends’ gatherings. This joke was his quiet way of telling me I was still myself. Tears welled up as I knew my life was just different, not over. The darkness around me hadn’t lifted, but a light had turned on in my heart — all thanks to a silly little spider joke that reminded me who I really was.

【答案】
The boss noticed my confusion and glanced back at the elbow joint. He sat down at a special tool, and placed the elbow joint in it. He then explained the problem could be solved if I gave him a couple of minutes. I expressed my surprise and gratitude. We chatted while he fixed the joint. He mentioned he had a dog of his own, asking how our dog wash worked. Within about ten minutes, the elbow joint was fixed. I headed back to my store. When I told my manager the joint had been fixed for free, he was surprised.
Later that week, the boss came into our shop with his pet dog. I turned to my manager, introducing the boss as the gentleman who’d fixed our pipe fitting a few days earlier. My manager thanked the boss sincerely. Before long, he finished bathing his dog and came up to the registers. He reached for his wallet, but my manager said, “You did us a solid, and we do you a solid.” The boss thanked my manager enthusiastically and said he’d definitely bring his dog back next time his dog needed a bath. Truly, you never underestimate the power of the “small kindnesses always circle back”.

【答案】例文
The next morning, true to their word, they arrived ready to help. And what followed was no small task. My husband, still in a hospital bed, talked us through the process over the phone. It was complex and physically demanding. Piece by piece, with calm and methodical care, Sam worked it all out, while Hillary offered encouragement, guidance and good humour. After two hours, the camper was ready to go. It would have taken me days on my own and, even then, I’m not sure I could have done it.
But their kindness didn’t stop there. They invited me to join them for dinner and a seat at their campfire, sharing their food, their warmth and their company. I hadn’t realized how much I needed that simple kindness. It felt like the first deep breath I’d taken in days. I will never forget that holiday. Not just because of the accident, or the brilliance of the emergency services, but because of Sam and Hillary. They gave me a warm Tasmanian hug — just when I needed it most.
